okay fellas, I'm at my Wit's end about this and I really don't like this about Android pie but my Wi-Fi for some reason keeps turning on when I have EVERYTHING turned off! I have Wi-Fi said not to turn on automatically, I have location services turned off I just don't know what to do at this point and I'm really getting sick and tired of my wife I coming on when I don't want it on, is I very RARELY use wifi. I feel this is a gross invasion of privacy. my question is, do I need to root my phone and somehow disable something to get my Wi-Fi to stay off?

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the same problem since the Android 10 update
I am willing to guess that you both turned off > settings > Wi-Fi & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Turn on Wi-Fi automatically???
If you did, and it is still turning on automatically, then a NETWORK reset may be in order. Also, it may take a removal, or to "forget" a particular Wi-Fi address for it to stay off. Mine stays off, so I hope some of this helps.

I had that off already, but I actually just figured out right after what went wrong; after I made a factory reset to install the Android 10 uprade, one program that I was using "Wifi password key show" reverted back to its default configurations, and they included a setting to turn off and on the Wifi upon turning off and on the screen.
It is confirmed to do it in Pie also. And on my new phone

It seems like wifi on my phone just won't cooperate with me.
The problem's never the same but the general concept is the same. Either my wifi doesn't turn on, or it'll turn itself off after some time. Sometimes I turn on wifi in comm manager and I'll get the loading thing, but then it doesn't turn on.
Other times, it'll turn on only to be instantly turned off again.
Other times it'll turn on. I'll start surfing the web (or doing nothing for that matter) and it'll be turned off again!
Sometimes it'll turn on, work fine, and then I'd lock my phone and turn off the screen for a while. Afterwards, I turn on my phone again and it's turned off again. It was on before I turned off the screen (and it should stay on.. it did when I first got my phone).
I recently hard reset and flashed to Energy Rom, Mercury. The problem persists. I guess this means it's a hardware issue right? I've checked many settings (including all of the settings in advanced config) and it seems like wifi isn't acting as it should..
Anyone have any ideas?

thats not going to work he said that he just flashed the newest mercury rom and that means he has probably got a good radio too . unless its just the radio .
other than that i don't know what to tell you about wifi other than i don';t use it much .
the rom works fine and the radio doesn't affect wi-fi. there are some settings that disable wi-fi after a period of no use. it could be that. only reason that would occur while you're actually using it tho would be that it was using your data connection and not wi-fi the whole time so wi-fi stayed inactive and decided to shut off. check your wi-fi settings.
I made sure that I disabled data connections (since I don't have a data plan. I cannot connect to the internet if I do not have wifi on).
I'm pretty convinced this is a hardware issue.. Looking at my wifi settings, there's no reason why it should turn off, and the only thing I noticed was that in advanced config, it's set to disconnect wifi after 2 mins of inactivity. I often get disconnected from wifi like 4 seconds after turning it on (and often while I'm trying to load a page in opera too).
Hi,
Just wonder if anybody is experiencing the same wifi fallback issue on the SGH-i727?
Basically, the phone doesn't automatically fall back to the previously added wifi network from LTE/4G when the screen is off. To get around that, I'll need to hit the power button once every time I enter the wifi range. When the screen is turned on by hitting the power button, I will see the 4G/LTE being replaced by the wifi icon very quickly. After that, it will then stay connected to the wifi network regardless whether the screen is on or off.
I was able to confirm this issue by monitoring the app traffic before and after I turned on the screen.
Without turning on the screen in the wifi range, the phone will stay on the 4g/LTE network forever even though the previously added wifi network is available.
I have already tried out different routers and it's still the same. SSID broadcast is on. I am thinking if there's a bug with the phone. Note that on my phone, my "Wi-Fi sleep policy" under the advanced menu of the "Wi-Fi settings" is always set to "never". Also, it's a stock ROM, nothing is modified at all.
This issue has never happened on other phones. What you think? Am I missing anything here?
After playing with it more, I noticed that the phone will never do the wifi handshake when the screen is off.
I tried turning off and on the wifi in the Wi-Fi settings. If I turn off the screen quickly before the phone gets connected to the wifi network again, it *will* remain unconnected until the screen is turned on again. =(
Did you go into the advanced wifi settings and change the wifi sleep policy?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
No, I didn't. I've never touched that setting. The "Wi-Fi sleep policy" is always set to "never".
My phone can still be connected to wifi when the screen is off, so it doesn't seem related to the "Wi-Fi sleep policy". The problem is only that it won't do any wifi connection handshake during screen-off.
Am I the only one having this issue? I guess that's more of a software issue rather than a hardware issue?
Have you tried the AT&T wifi app? It automatically turns off and on wifi as needed
No, that doesn't help.
Yes, I do realize I'm bringing back a thread from the dead, but...
I just got a Samsung Stratosphere (SCH-i405 -- a CDMA-1X/EVDO/LTE Galaxy S phone) and it does EXACTLY the same thing. It's ironic, on the Stratosphere they added a bit of fun that CONSTANTLY lets you know there's networks (which I had to disable), but it doesn't connect to the wifi networks I do have in there until I turn on the screen I guess that's just how it is; at least it doesn't kill the wifi once it IS connected.
If anyone knows a programmatic way to bypass this, I'd be interested, and I could write up a wifi app to implement the solution. I'm guesisng it's a behavior of the drivers though and would take some custom ROM or something to fix.
You could always try to use tasker for automatically connecting to the wifi using radio antenna or maybe can't remember if possible by identifying certain wifi spot.
Hi Folks,
I can't get my Wifi to switch off when the phone goes to sleep. I've gone into advanced and changed the 'keep wifi on during sleep' to never. I also have turned off 'Scanning always available' so apps can't scan but it STILL won't go off when the phone is asleep!! I rarely use my data allowance with my contract so my 3G is always off and I would like my wifi off when I'm not using the phone aswell but just can't get it to go off
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance
Change it to
Keep WiFi of during sleep=always
And
Tick off =scanning always available.
Your Wi-Fi should switch off during screen lock. Don't expect it to turn off immediately though.

As I said in my post it says 'Keep wifi ON during sleep' not OFF ......and I have it set to never which is correct.
Hmmm u r right it says on. What i observed is it takes a bit of time to go off to make sure user is not going to use it soon.
I have the T-mobile LG G2 D801. Every time I am near an AT&T wifi hotspot, my phone "knows" my location and automatically turn on the wifi and connect to it, even skipping the usual web login agreement. This is the first time I have seen this feature on a none-AT&T phone. Has anyone else notice this?
Very interesting ability but how does my phone knows I am near the AT&T wifi when my wifi is already set to off?
How do I disable this feature (none-rooted phone).
I haven't noticed this on mine; I'll have to watch for it. There is a "scanning always available" setting in the Advanced Wi-Fi settings, it is enabled on my phone.

Yes, this feature was turned off and my phone still automatically detects I am near a Starbucks and connect to the wifi there.

I do not
I ask because it manages your wifi and can turn it on automatically good app though. Idk what your issue might be then, I've never had an issue like that.
Sometimes my WiFi goes away, LTE kicks in for a second, and then WiFi comes right back. I don't know for certain, but it may only happen when the phone has been unused for a while, right after I first pick it up to do something. But I have the WiFi power saving option turned off, so that WiFi should stay on all the time. And I seem to recall it happening just at random sometimes, too, in the middle of browsing websites or social media apps. It'll say "no connection" and I'll look up and see LTE kick in, then WiFi come right back, then I'm all good. It's very annoying.
On top of the quick WiFi cycling issue, sometimes WiFi will just completely stop working. When I go into settings, it says it's disabled and I can't turn it back on. Going in and out of airplane mode fixes it. This only happens about once a week or so. The other issue is by far more annoying.
Anyone else experiencing either of these? I'm on Verizon with a black 128 GB stock, unrooted, if it makes a difference.
Thanks!
I personally haven't seen this on my VZW Pixel although I use it with T-Mobile service. These are as suggestions only, and it may or may not help, but you could try using any order below.
1) The setting to keep WiFi during sleep is on, right?
2) Have you tried to use your phone without sim card in it and see if WiFi is still acting strange?
3) I would also suggest to go to Settings>Google>Networking and see if you have WiFi assistant on or off. There is a setting under advanced as well.
4) Does it happen on all WiFi networks or when using on particular one? You could forget that network and then join again.
5) Alternatively you could "Network settings reset" under Settings>More>Network Settings Reset - after the reset, you may need to rejoin all the networks, pair Bluetooth devices and so on.
