I live in China so currently I can only buy this phone customized for China- no Google apps and only some local crappy app stores.
I know it's possible to install Google services/store etc. on Chinese phones, but would it be possible to just flash some stock "Western" ROM on it?
Are there any stock ROMs from OnePlus available for international versions?
How can I tell if the phone I'd be buying here is "flashable"- how can I check it at the store ?
There are all 3 versions available here (6/8/12GB ram)
Chinese version uses hytrogen OS, you can try flash oxygen OS(stock os on international version)through "local upgrade" .
Some personal experience:
I bought Chinese version too and I directly flashed zip in this thread through local upgrade, the OS changed to Oxygen OS as expected but Google play store somehow wasn't installed, so I factory reseted my phone, then everything works fine now.
Note: Chinese version got a system update after it was released if you performed that upgrade you may not able to flash oxygen os because version number(9.5.4) is higher on hytrogen os than on oxygen os(9.5.3).
Note 2: This thread provide 9.5.4 oxygen os now so if you already performed upgrade on hytrogen os you can try flash 9.5.4 oxgyen os.
Hi, I'd like to hop on this thread to ask a similar question.
So right now I'm in China and will stay for a few weeks. I've been wanting to get my habds on a 7 pro since I learned about it, and I'll be residing in S.Korea for the foreseeable future.
I have an option to purchase the device from the US official website and have an agency deliver it to me at my Korean address (I'm assuming the US version retails as the global version GM1917 I believe?). All in all it'll cost around $790.
Or I can purchase the cheaper, chinese version while I'm here and install the Oxygen OS on it as I'm told it's a rather simple procedure for Oneplus phones. I've never tried any sort of unlocking/bootloader/flash/custom rom stuff so I'm not entirely familiar with all this but it seems doable if i tread carefully.
The question that stands however, is whether or not there will be any difference at all between the two. I believe the Chinese model is named GM1910, I'm assuming there are some hardware differences like band support, but then again I can't find a clear answer on this. I've also heard that flashing the OOS might mean it wont be google play digital certified (not entirely sure if i got the name right or what it does) and I might encounter widevine issues. But then again I've seen people mention the hardware is the same so as long as I convert the OS it should work like a breeze as if it was the global version.
I'd appreciate any help and guidance in this matter. Also by flashing the OS would that mean I'd have to manually apply OTA patches whenever they're released? I'm not too concerned on warranty issues but if you guys have anything crucial I should keep in mind about it I'd be grateful for the help.
Thanks in advance.

All version sold in china is "flashable", just pick up the specs/color you prefered.
For the switching the system from HOS(Chinese version) to OOS(global version), it's simple:
1. flash the newest Oxygen OS(GM21AA, for global version) through system update;
2. reboot to recovery;
3. wipe all data of your phone
Done.

Widevine downgrading(L1 -> L3) happened when you unlock the bootloader. If you just get an chinese version OP7P, switching system from HOS to OOS, it's ok to do it through system update, while maintaining the widevine level.
After switching to OOS 9.5.3, my chinese version OP7P works pretty fine with all google service(except google pay, no environment to test it)

I'm not sure if there are any hardware difference between Chinese model and other model, but I'm sure Google play is still certified on Chinese model after flashing OOS. Widevine level won't change as long as you don't unlock bootloader and you won't need to unlock bootloader if you only want to flash OOS.
I used to have a Chinese version OnePlus 5, I flashed OOS on it and everything works pretty well for two years, OTA always works. I assume everything is the same on OnePlus 7 pro.

Hey, thanks for the reply! for some reason I can't quote the edited latter part of your post.
It's great to know its as simple as you said. But like I mentioned I'm quite new to all this so I hope you're fine that your answer also raised some questions for me.
So if there's no influence on widevine, why would people go the extra effort to unlock the bootloader? Isn't it primarily to flash a fresh ROM which would mean the end goal is basically the same is it not? Would my OS converted phone be any different to that of a bootloader unlocked one in regards to performing identical as a global version 7 pro?
Thanks so much for the help!

People unlock bootloader because they want to root their phone or flash third-party ROM. Bootloader has to be unlocked if you want to flash anything other than stock ROM or other stock things.

Thanks you are amazing. I think I can safely go with the Chonese version. One last question though, would tweaking for VoLTE require any rooting?

Glad I can help.
If you're in China, I don't think you need to tweak anything to use VoLTE no matter which OS you're using (Hytrogen OS or Oxygen OS), there are three main telecom operators in China: CMCC, China Net and China Unicom.
CMCC already support VoLTE so if you're using CMCC's service your phone will enable VoLTE automatically once you plug in the SIM card and detected signal.
China Net added support for VoLTE very recently, so VoLTE should be automatically enabled too once you plug in a China Net's SIM card, but I'm not sure about this because I'm not using any China Net's service.
China Unicom does not support VoLTE until June 1st 2019, you won't be able to use VoLTE till then in any method if you are using China Unicom's service (Google Fi and some international roaming use China Unicom's service so no VoLTE for Google Fi and those roaming yet)
Dual VoLTE with dual SIM should work too, I'm using CMCC and China Unicom dual sim and VoLTE icon on my status bar have a "1" next to it(VoLTE1), I think there will be a VoLTE2 after China Unicom support VoLTE.
I know little about these Telecom operators things outside of China, but I think Oxygen OS support most country's VoLTE service as long as their Telecom operators support VoLTE.
I'm new here, my op7 pro is on the way to me, I'm in China too, so I should unbox it, do not upgrade, download the oxygen os and flash it directly? Than I'll get a "global version" op 7 pro, will it work?

Hi Oneplus Community!
I have some questions before buying Oneplus 7 tomorrow.
• I'll be getting the GM1900 which is Chinese Model but the seller said that it has already been flashed to OxygenOS, I will not encounter any update issue or update will be delay right if I'll get this one?
• Banking Apps should work fine after flashing OxygenOS to GM1900 model? or it will not work because of root or unlock bootloader? (I'm really sorry since I don't have any information about these)
• I'll be upgrading from Galaxy S8+ to Oneplus 7 will there be a huge difference in daily usage performance?
I can't get the Global version in my country(Philippines) because it is not officially released here and in the future once it will be released it will be troublesome to get one because in my region they don't stock Oneplus that much. So I'll be getting the Chinese Model to a non-official store in my place.
Hello my friend!
Last year when OnePlus released the android Pie HydrogenOS for the OnePlus 5T (the chinese version of the OS), there were some problems with the device. No Playstore installed, some firmware issues (force closed etc not necessarily related to the beta) and also there weren't any google apps (easy to install though). We had to install TWRP to install the HydrogenOS beta, root the device, unlock the bootloader etc.
Why am i telling you these? Because probably they will send you a device with unlocked bootloader etc (I said probably, not sure ). So you will have to ask them how the installed the firmware.
Yes. The OP7 is a beast. I got mine yesterday and it's a great device. Once you get a OnePlus you will not buy another phone, trust me on this one.
Wait some days to see if the oneplus becomes official to your country too and also ask the retailer those information so that you can be sure that the device you are about to buy is not messed up

Oh that is very scary since I'm not that expert on the customization of android how can I check the bootloader status if its unlock or not?
Lastly, even if they flash OxygenOS from HydrogenOS updating it to the next OS will make my device revert its OS to the original and default for GM1900 which is HydrogenOS? Please enlighten me. They are claiming that it is a Global ROM btw.
Thank you for the heads up!

Well, you can't check it until you have the device. It could be the Global ROM but i think that they have to make some changes in order to modify it. No, it won't revert to the HydrogenOS after installing an update afaik.
How much does it cost? There isn't another retailer or another online shop from where you can buy the European model?

It costs ₱25,990 or around 500 USD pretty cheap though yeah this store I'm going to get one is somehow popular here in my location they offer products that the official market doesn't. If I have to wait for the official Oneplus 7 in my country my estimate will be in September or October if they are going to release it in my country even the 7 Pro was officially launched here in the Philippines, our authorized seller(Store A) in my place of Oneplus doesn't even have the stock of Oneplus 7 Pro they say it will be arriving mid or late July (sucks) so its really hard in my situation right now to get an official one they only offer a Oneplus 6T right now which costs around 550 USD. So I have to get the Oneplus 7 on the (Store B) who is selling the GM1900 model which is modified to OxygenOS. Btw these chinese model are also popular here in my country because it is cheaper than the official one around 10-30% price difference (base on our oneplus community facebook group). Only bad thing if I get from (Store B) is that they only offer 3 months warranty and if it is bound for replacement they are going to send it back and have it diagnose before they will give me a replacement hopefully I won't get there.
Will work fine, same hardware and bands as in EU version. Using China 256/8GB version in EU, no issues at all.
If you want the european one then order it to an european country and then use this service. https://www.parcl.com/ (if products are not available to order in your country yet, just order to this companys hq from some EU country and they will ship it to you)
Hey @cheschanco I don't know whether you have made your decision of not, if they have already installed Oxygen is, you can get the device. Don't worry about bootloader lock/unlock it doesn't have to do anything with updates unless you are rooted. If you still want locked bootloader there is simple command for that and is one step process you don't have to be an expert for that.
Although you will still receive all the oos updates nevertheless. Now coming to the device. This has by far the best device OnePlus has made in terms of price and performance. Camera quality is identical to op7pro - wide angle. Just go for it.

I already got the device and yes it comes with OxygenOS with it. I guess I will not mess with those settings anymore anyway is it ok to keep the factory OS which is 9.5.2 I'm still hesitating to update because of some bugs and battery drain according to other users and with my current OS I don't notice any bugs so I'm going to stick with this one. Yeah correct huge improvement specially in gaming performance compare to my S8+ looks like a 150% difference.

There are no issues with banking apps provided you don't root. If you do root, then there are still workarounds.

I received this morning my device, living in China i could get my hands only on the GM1910 version.
first thing i did was download the latest Global Oxygen OTA from the oneplus website and do a local update to switch to Oxygen firmware from Hydrogen: Success
unlock bootloader: success
install TWRP: success
install Magisk: success
when i went into the settings/about phone page i noticed that my phone model is still GM1910, this is my first time to use a OP device so i don"t know how to feel about it or what that really means, I would like to switch to a custom ROM and the minimum requirement usually is to have a matching stock firmware version, doesn't mention the region.
my only question is: can the phone model name cause any trouble or is it just a "label" and is not going to influence in any way?

I have the same variant as you, out here in Canada. I didn't find out it was the Chinese version after I had it for a few days. It hasn't had any impact on my experience whatsoever. I rooted, I flashed stuff. I even flashed Global firmware versions a few times. No issues. Hope this helps. ?

thank you for your insight,
i couldn't not notice because i had a bunch of useless (for me i guess...) chinese apps preloaded and no Gapps, maybe you received it with another version of the firmware,
but it kind of reinforce my opinion that the model name doesn't matter in this case, being the "unlocked" part the most important.
I am also running the global version of the firmware now, seems without any problems, but i will need some time to confirm that and try to flash a custom ROM or kernel in few days

Trying to figure this one out and maybe just something small I'm doing.
If I flash anything higher than the 11.0.12 release of stable from xiaomi.eu, my sim card settings seem to not work right. I have dual SIM. TMobile and redpocket. On 11.0.12, I can get 5G on TMobile and 4G on redpocket. Past that, it switches to only getting 4G on TMobile and H+ on redpocket. Am I doing something wrong or did they change something. So confusing...
Any help is appreciated

No I didnt. Even more disturbing is that the newer ROMs also seem to take away an additional band of connectivity with TMobile rather than the base China rom. I would of considered keeping my Mi 10 pro if I could rom without this issue, but losing this connectivity is making me get a different phone. Really stinks

LMAO,
Simply flash the modem from your firmware and the issue is resolved. Easy!
Different roms from different regions use different modems with less or additional bands. Flash the modem from the rom that works. I would recommend using LR Team or orangefox recovery.

I thought about that and will try it if I decide to keep the phone... I'm probably going back to the Find X2 Pro... I got the Thailand version coming soon... I'll probably just relock the bootloader on this phone. The Find X2 Pro has way more capatibiilty in North America. The Thailand version has global rom and dual sim.... Where as EU is single sim....
I like that I can rom on this phone but I'm getting too old for it. Hahaha. Just want the best phone for the money. This phone is great and is probably the better value over the Find X2 Pro but the lost of bands especially not working with Verizon MVNOs stinks.

I also live in the US, I agree that you should sell it soon while, it is still highly sought after.
I was within an inch of buying a Mi 10 Pro myself, I have been wanting to upgrade from my current Mi8. Fortunately, I found that the Mi10 and Mi 10 pro are lacking too many bands for the US before I processed the order based on inaccurate info.
As of right now, Xiaomi doesn't seem to care about gaining or maintaining loyal customers in the US or any country in North America, for that matter. If they did they would releases phones with more than 3 compatible bands for AT&T and TMobile. Without a doubt I agree that you are better off with an Find X2 Pro or a One Plus. - Note how those phones have every single band, for every country!
To be clear, there are many things that I love about Miui, but Xiaomi phones offer less bands with every release, and the last phones that had more than 3 bands for the US was in 2018 with the Mix 3, and Xiaomi Mi 8, the Mi9 was released with only 4 compatible bands. To go on, the Mix 3 5G has received no updates in a very long time.
While, I suppose that you could get by with 3 bands, you will not have a signal in some areas. and here is some additional info that for me is just another nail in the Xiaomi coffin. Historically, Xiaomi has supported their phones for 3 to 5 years ( like Apple)
However, last week Xiaomi management decides to stop supporting all phones with SD 845 processors, starting in September! These phones are currently only 2 and a half years old. Here is a source I have no idea why they are shooting themselves in the foot with these bad decisions, but if they go down in flames another company will rise and take their place. Finally, I am sure that you have seen the news about the recent security issues with browser tracking even while using incognito mode
Hopefully they get their act together.
Good Luck.

LMAO,
Simply flash the modem from your firmware and the issue is resolved. Easy!
Different roms from different regions use different modems with less or additional bands. Flash the modem from the rom that works. I would recommend using LR Team or orangefox recovery.

It's been awhile but I think there's 2 possibilities
I pretty sure that you could just put the modem file from the China rom into a file like modem.zip and flash with TWRP... It's been a moment and I might be wrong on that. You could also replace the modem file in the EU rom zip file and flash as well

You can just dirty flash the latest global firmware for your device ( if it's a global device) Download it from the Yshalsager firmware website. It includes the modem and radio drivers.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/. FYI the site also includes Chinese and Russian firmware.
Always create a TWRP backup and copy it to a secondary location before doing these kinds of things. ( USB or desktop) Just in case. However, I do this type of stuff all the time without issue. We have 4 Xiaomi phones in my house.
FYI, you will only find the modem file in fastboot "images" roms.

As I mentioned It must be an "images" fastboot rom. FYI: These roms are the same roms that you also use should should you ever have a brick...nothing else will work to unbrick a phone. So be sure to keep it and also be sure to make a full TWRP backup and keep it on your desktop so you will have a way back if something terrible ever happens to you such as losing sensors, IMEI, persist etc.
For example, see my screenshot
I dont even own a Mi 10. Nonetheless I found the official link for to help you out. > Clicking thanks would be appreciated.

Just so you know: You can extract the files individually and flash them.
Plus firmware flashing doesn't affect the system installation because the firmware lives on it's own partitions . FYI: Generally Android phones have on average around 20 or more partitions depending on the phone and the OS is on its own partition.
These image ROMs are hard to find so I would strongly suggest that you look for, the native images Rom specific to your devices.
If you can't find it on the Mi-Community website, try use Chrome with Google translate and switch Mi-Community's region to China, then you should be able to find it. You can also find links in telegram. But personally I don't trust firmware from 3 party sites. Especially Chinese 3rd party sites that often add additional adware.
Also, if you weren't aware be very careful about using Mi flash and accidentally locking your bootloader.
Enjoy your phone: I had planned on buying one myself but it lacks way too many bands for North America to justify the expense. Hopefully Xiaomi actually builds the rumored upcoming Mix 4. The Mix series usually have every band.

Which bands do you use ? Only band I'm missing is 66,71 for t mobile and of course t mobile 5g but I guess I can use n41 band for nsa 5g?
I basically bought an X50 Pro Player edition from AliExpress at a decent price for the UK (£414 inc DHL Shipping)
And because i know that this Player Edition of the phone only seems to be available for the Chinese market at the moment and might not even get released in the EU or anywhere else globally.
I assume that the firmware on it will be the CN version and there possibly wont be any other versions available for this specific model RMX2072.
The main differences as far as i know on this model compared to the normal EU specced X50 pro's is that this edition has LPDDR5 and is using UFS 3.1 instead of 3.0, and that the front and back camera setups are downgraded on the player edition, everything else from what i can see is pretty much exactly the same as the normal x50 pro.
My question is that because i am UK based i would prefer to use the EU X50 Pro Rom, but would i be able to flash the EU rom onto this version of the phone?
yeah i would like to know this too since i am considering buying one
Hmmmmm take that as a no lol
you can try the same method as here described

If you cared to read the whole thread which is quite short for now, you'd see it yourself.
Regretfully, I am still waiting for my phone to arrive, so I can't check it myself yet.
I also compared that custom RMX2076EU_OTA11_A.20 with the stock version, and I had only found 2 differences:
1. The file \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script is a little different.
The author of the custom ROM just deleted the part in the beginning where it should check if your phone model is RMX2076EU. So, basically, you can try to install it on any phone you like, but the consequences would be quite unpredictable. So it's better to install it on RMX2071CN only, for which this customized ROM was intended.
2. The file \firmware-update\modem.img is the one from stock RMX2071_OTA11_A.18
I don't know why the author didn't use modem.img from RMX2071_OTA11_A.20. Maybe it wasn't released yet by the time that custom ROM was made.
This custom ROM seems to be a proof of concept that EU ROM can be ported to CN version, but the author of the above mentioned post claims that it doesn't work otherwise than upgrading from stock RMX2071_OTA11_A.18 to this customized RMX2076EU_OTA11_A.20, and that the kernel is different in RMX2076EU_OTA11_A.22, so you can't upgrade further this way. I'll be sure to check this myself when my phone finally arrives. I also presume that someone more knowledgeable may be able to customize this port further to make Play Market certification work as well. We only need to wait until someone with actual skill and knowledge starts working on it.

any available roms for this phone rather than the CN?

Still searching
Just Bought that Chinese version Realme X50 pro player edition 12gb ram , and waiting to be shipped by the seller since 10 days !!!! any hopes to use an other ordinary Rom version not the Chinese one !?
If someone has tried the RMX2071 method please let us now
Hi all,
So I am interested in buying a Realme GT Neo 2, however I will likely buy the Chinese version as it is easier and chaeper for me to find and purchase (Aliexpress).
I see most stores say they will open the box and flash the Global ROM for you before shipping. Not sure how true this is, but anyways...
I wanted to find out if with the Chinese ROM, does it have the same issues as Xiaomi / Redmi with the Chinese ROM where when the device is locked you do not get messages.
For example, with the Redmi Note 11 Pro (Chinese ROM). If I am using Whatsapp or Telegram, it works fine but once I lock the phone after a minute or so when the phone is in sleep mode I do not get messages or any whatsapp / telegram calls.
I have to unlock the phone before those messages are downloaded and come through to my phone - is this the case with the Chinese ROM on the GT Neo 2?
If so, will this be fixed by flashing the Global or Indian ROM? I know with Xiaomi, if you flash the Global ROM then this is no longer a problem. It seems that the Chinese ROM for Xiaomi is very aggressive with how it manages apps when the phone is sleepings or when the apps are running in the background.
This is my main concern and the only thing stopping me from buying this phone now.
@KD6-3.7 Maybe you can give me some advice, you seem to have a lot of knowledge with Realme and the GT Neo 2.

I do not know about that kind of screen off issue. But my Indian Variant one has no issues whatsoever. [ edge lighting is also great! ]
TBH, the neo 2 with Chinese Rom is getting frequent updates + it has access to the RUI 3.0 Beta application.
Whereas the Indian market users of neo2 are stuck on an update which is 2 months+ old...
Also, with chinese rom, you can unlock the bootloader! No such thing as of now in global/Indian ones...
So it is on you entirely, if you want updates faster or not. Also, from what i have seen, MIUI CN usually is always better than the buggy global one. Not sure how realme works.

Alright thanks.
MIUI CN is great, just the way it handles apps in the background / when phone is locked is a problem for me. No Global ROM for the Redmi Note 11 Pro, only expected sometime in Q1 so I had to sell mine unfortunately. My girlfriend has the Redmi Note 10 Pro, global ROM and works as expected.
Tempted to pull the trigger on this Realme, thinking I might ask the supplier to flash to Global ROM just incase. I imagine they'd need to unlock the bootloader and I could always flash back to the Chinese ROM to play around with if need be.
I just cannot afford to have a phone which does not allow for IM apps and their messages / calls to come through when the phone is locked.
This will be my first Realme device, so not familiar with how they work and do things.
If I am able to flash between the various ROMs, I might even flash to the Indian ROM if that has newer updates compared to the Global ROM.
I assume Indian ROM & Global ROM are quite similar and both have Google Apps and English as a language?

Indian is, i think global only, heh.
Also, i dont think that you will be able to unlock the bl once global rom is flashed, although i can be wrong.
If you do use google applications, then yes, you indeed need the global rom.

Hmm, I was thinking and hoping that the supplier will unlock the bootloader, flash the Global ROM and then the bootloader will remain unlocked for me to flash the different ROMs as I wish?
It seems there is really not a lot of info available and most people who are on forums and using these phones seem to be using the Global or Indian version and not the Chinese version - which so far seems to be able to do more and has newer updates.
I can order the Chinese version and ask them to not update to the Global ROM, but then I run the risk of maybe still not being able to unlock the bootloader and having a phone I cannot use properly.
If I can get confirmation that Realme does not have the same issue as Xiaomi do on their Chinese ROMs then I am more than happy to stay on the Chinese ROM.

CN variant will always be ahead in terms of updates.
As for your supplier, he will lock the bl. He has to, cuz if he doesnt, then your play store wont be certified. He will flash and lock most probably.
you can i think ask the seller himself about such stuff, he knows much more , heh.
Im currently using GT Neo 2 China varian rom.
Maybe this is my first time using Realme UI, so some of my problem may not really a problem
Here are some of my experiance for using China variant rom
1. A lot of China bloatware, most of it can be deleted
3. Unable to backup system setting, sms, call log at google account. It will showing error. You may need to backup your data to the realme chinese cloud. Contact and Calender are able to sync with google account.
4. Some of the banking apps are unable to set your device as digital otp token (maybe will fix later)
5. Cloned whatsapp have notification issue. It solve after reinstall.
6. Play Store will not automatically searching new updates and scan hamful apps. It require manual clicking.
7. Unable to use Google Location History function (it not affecting google map fuction)
8. Unable to trasfer my old phone data to new Realme phone using Phone clone app. (maybe have bug for phone clone app)
9. Great battery life. Apps are not allow to run in background by default. (i'm not sure is it Realme UI default setting)
10. High frequency system updates. You may check the latest updates news at Realme GT Neo 2 China Community.
Im using cn.
The only problem Im getting is the CN Apps but you can uninstall / remove then using ADB or manual uninstall only hehe
Thats why CN Version is the best of all version!

Actually is depend. If you very rely of Google ecosystem, the China variant rom might not your best choice.
So I have not pulled the trigger yet and was wondering what the latest software is on the Global ROM vs the Indian ROM?
I am wondering whether I should speak to the seller and see if they cannot put the Indian ROM on for me instead of the Global ROM as I may get updates sooner than on the Global ROM?
I assume the Indian ROM works fine with apps running in the background and when your phone is locked you can still get Whatsapp & Telegram messages and do not need to unlock your phone in order to receive those messages like with the Chinese ROM?

I am CN that this is not the case, there are several options in Settings-Notifications, one of which is to receive messages and reminders and display them on the lock screen, if not, then it is probably because the process of app has been forcibly stopped by the power protection system, to solve this problem, just select not to optimize in the battery optimization interface. The relevant solution may also be in the long press of the icon in question-Application Details-Power Consumption Management)

Interesting
I have Chinese version too.
I think the only deal breakers that i have with the Chinese version are missing notifications and bloatware. I am not sure how it works but it never delivers notifications on time, either they are delayed for 5-10 minutes or hours
I flash global version and really happy with it. Gpay doesn't work but my bank app does
