Would you know the reason why I'm not able to select this through Magisk? I had the same issue with the Swift Installer module. I ended up flashing the Swift through TWRP.
Indeed, I can confirm it's a huge difference having V4A enabled.

My thing is I just want to increase the gain. That's it. And V4A never seems to work for this.

Nope, no isn't by a long shot...
If your using ViPER4Android correctly with "Convolver" with some epic presets (I purchased my favs a long time ago) then it literally blows the **** out of any alternative really... It transforms sound like nothing else; has the ability to take a suck as stero and speaker set and make it sound absolutely amazing!
I'm probably the only one using it properly, Convolver use on ViPER has had a bug preventing it from being stable for years and for years I have been using a tasker task to correct that issue.

I also WISH there was a sound mod. This phone has the potential to have great sound output but I feel it's not calibrated and can sound far better!
It's boomy, bass heavy but lacks in treble. Needs more treble to set the balance as the bass overpowers it.
Shame Dolby Atmos does not work with the Mate 9. If it did we could at least use the equalizer and manually boost the 8k and 16k values to get more treble!

With the above app, not only do you get a 20% boost in audio, you are able to adjust bass & treble, Great mod.

There is something else you can try. Tried it on 3 different devices.
Best thing it does not require root and works on all 3!
In Google Play Store, look for ''Volume Booster'' by GOODEV. It's a red icon. Simply set it to 10% or even 15% and see the difference.
PS. Do not set it too high, the boost really makes a huge difference, careful not to blow your speakers.
Any update on this? Would really like some sound mods for my device, if not Viper than something else... i'm surprised that no one has found a solution yet...

I've used Jet, and found that Equalizer FX is a better option... Sadly not comparable to Viper but it'll have to do. I would pay good money for a working Viper for EMUI8.

It should work. Works on my Honor 8 Lite and also on Honor 6X. If you use Magisk there's a very low chance of bootloop, and you certainly won't brick it. Give it a go, I think it'll work for you!

I'm on a custom rom. Maybe try installing Resurrection Remix or another custom emui 8-based ROM... Then it'll certainly work. However some people did get it working on stock emui8.

Install custom ROM and let me know. if you still have problems then contact me on Telegram @shogun1999
Since I've been using Pixel Experience, I never moved to a different ROM since battery backup and performance is awesome! Only thing missing was the music mods. This guide has already been tested on RR and stock ROM 8.0 in the comments and both feedback have it working!
YOU CAN SKIP ANY OF THE SOUND MODS YOU DON'T WANT TO INSTALL. THESE ARE JUST THE PROPER LINKS TO THE WORKING FILES AS OTHER FILES GIVES BOOTLOOP.
Now, onto the guide!
Requirement
TWRP
Instructions
Proper guide to install sound mods without losing WiFi and other functions (you may skip any sound mod you wouldn't like to include):
Dolby-Atmos_Axon7_Oreo_BnC_Edition.zip if you want Dolby Atmos.
[*][URL=https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4514264&d=1527706615]Download and install Viper4Android FX v2.6.0.5 APK from the attachment below.
Open V4A app and Install drivers.
Check the Magisk modules. Viper4Android should be installed.
Install the Dolby-Atmos_Axon7_Oreo_BnC_Edition.zip via Magisk Manager app
Don't open the Dolby Atmos app yet. It should also be in Magisk modules.
Install Ainur Sauron from Magisk Downloads.
Install JamesDSP from Magisk Downloads.
Feel free to install any other sound mod on this part of the tutorial.
Lastly, install Audio Modification Library from Magisk Downloads as well.
You should see it patching all your sound mods.
Reboot for the last time.
All audio mods should be working fine without breaking WiFi functionality.
Assuming you're using a custom ROM and want to update to the latest, just reinstall Magisk and all modules will be kept.
Voila! All sound mods should work side-by-side with each other! Hope this helps and report if it works for you!
This has been tested on the following ROMs:
- Pixel Experience (6/3/18 build)

IMPORTANT!!!
If you want to also use other sound mods (like Viper4Android), you'll need to install Audio Modification Library module!
About:
This module adds ported Dolby Atmos libraries from S9 to S8 (Works with headphones only).
Compatibility:
Roms: Stock/Stock based roms.
Galaxy S8: SM-G950F/FD/N
Galaxy S8+: SM-G955F/FD/N
FAQ:
Does it work with device X? It works only with S8 & S8+.
Dual Speakers? I personally don't like the dual speakers mod, but if you want you can add it here
I got a bootloop! If you have other sound mods installed, you'll need to install Audio Modification Library module!
Downloads:
Github | Offical Magisk repo! Dolby DMCA took down all Atmos ports Modules from Magisk
Credits:

First of all I forgot to declare, Dolby Atmos does not work on the speaker, only on headphones/bt.
So if you don't feel any difference in the speakers sound that's why.
Secondly, personally don't feel that major of a sound difference, but many people who used it said they did, so it doesn't hurt just to have it installed.
However, I'm far from being a Audiophile.

steps for viper and ddp with acp and aml?
My steps, for always getting this to work was :
Just install the apk from xda labs 2.7.1.6 ( prefer this) open app, asks for root (Grant) app creates magisk module and reboots. I then use the latest AML module from magisk repo, last reboot and good to go.
Dolby and Viper work.
