[HELP] Trying to Root - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I just bought this phone, as I saw that it was listed as "Factory Unlocked", and according to the seller it never had anything to do with Verizon.
Unfortunately I am still apparently unable to tick OEM Unlocking in the Dev options.
I attached images of my devices details. I was hoping someone could give me some clarification if I can or can not, and if I can then how do I do that?
Please and thank you! I am rather desperate at this point after spending so much time trying to figure this out.

Probably Verizon. Plug into PC, enable USB debugging, and try again.

I tried with no luck. It shows the Bootloader status as Locked and trying "fastboot flashing unlock" just fails. As does the critical version of it. I also tried the older "fastboot oem unlock" and it said the command "flashing unlock" will not work.
Any other suggestions?

No, sir. Must be a Verizon phone. I've bought and sold several phones but always use swappa. I've never bought anything from them that wasn't as stated.

Maybe a Verizon store. There are no restrictions that I know of for a Google unlocked phone. It's not difficult to unlock. Whomever you got it from might have meant carrier unlocked.

You said earlier it came like this? Did you buy this phone and then you turned it on and this happened? It's very important you explain as best as you can so I can help you properly.
The phone was simlocked . Someone unlocked it (he unlocked the bootloader and then unlocked it with a box) . The phone was then sold to a customer who said that he wanted to update OTA . Then the phone became bricked .

If you try to unlock the bootloader with fastboot flashing unlock does it work or do you get an error? If you can't unlock the bootloader and flash the full factory image, you will likely have to try to get it replaced by Google.

If you brick your phone with a locked bootloader it wasn't your fault. Nothing you can do to it, can't root it, can't mod it. Just like any other locked phone. If it dies, send it to them for warranty.

No, basically everything you described was a terrible idea and it makes zero sense to intentionally lock the bootloader of a phone you just finished hooking up to a black box to forcibly modify software.
Never lock the bootloader of a modified device, that is just a given.

Well there is that and then there's the fact that the pixel is carrier unlocked. Sounds like this guy had no clue what he was doing with this phone. Also like to know what "box" you hooked the phone up to
Has the original poster tried to unlock bootloader again? The pic in the OP shows fastboot. That looks potentially hopeful. Hope that OTA wasn't 7.1.2
Hopefully the seller was legit, maybe the phone is still under warranty??? Waiting sucks, but if it's under warranty you can fix it for free. Might be worth the wait. If not if that's not an option...
I'm guessing this is a Verizon phone? If so, start worrying, bit don't quit, unless you are prepared to spend more money on a new phone. As long as you have fastboot, you have options.

[MOD][ROOT][LM-G710EM][MAGISK]v16

So we all know the g7 is an awesome phone but for it to be rly great we alwayxs need root and mods , now its possible, this is only for the G710EM Variant since the us one doesnt have a bootloader unlock yet
How To Root
1. Download this Boot.img
2. Reboot to fastboot and unlock your bootloader
3. Flash the new boot.img with the commands fastboot flash boot_a pathtoboot.imghere and then fastboot flash boot_b pathtoboot.imghere
4. Reboot and install Magisk Manager Apk
5.Enjoy Root
6.Profit

Well of course it is appreciated but it was already known that the bootloader can be unlocked on the European variant. So when at first I seen the title said g7 I was hoping it would work for the US variant too but then it was edited to European.
ive installed xposed and some other modifications with success , i spoke to someone we might get twrp soon , im not able to make it since they changed the way recovery works and idk how it works xD

T-Mobile Bootloader/Sim unlock Bypass..

I'm shocked there is absolutely no discussion on the new method that just launced. Due to the lack of activity, it's not made clear if the bootloader unlock method unlocks the sim card as well.. I don't even know if the method is worth taking or has any significant issues in the longrun..
Convert to international and it bypasses it
Edit:
Nevermind didn't read it correctly
If you're talking about the q upgrade to get bootloader unlocked. I'm kind of surprised too.
I unlocked my bootloader via that method and it did not sim unlock my op7p. I dropped an at&t sim and it told me the phone is network locked and to use the Tmo unlock app.

None that I know of if you buy a network locked version like the GM1915 from TMobile. Have to go through the carrier for SIM unlock on those.
The guy that started the tmo to international conversion thread said it's possible, but complicated and would be release later. Hope they get it out soon.
The Q unlocks the bootloader but the GSM SIM is still locked. I tried this command and got this response
./fastboot erase modemst2
Erasing 'modemst2' FAILED (remote: 'Erase is not allowed for Critical Partitions
')
./fastboot reboot
Rebooting OKAY [ 0.002s]
Would be grateful to find someone with useful info on how to sim unlock this phone.
Thanks

If you have t-mobile version there are 2 guys on guide thread that unlock the phone through the t-mobile app. If your using t-mobile outside the carrier you will have to pay to a 3er party service eBay haves them

No, these commands are for the dangerous ability to flash & erase criticals like modem.
The code to unlock BL is:
fastboot oem unlock
(Erases all data)
---------- Post added at 08:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:53 AM ----------
I dunno if BL can be downgraded bc OP7P starts on android 9 rom which has security patches which prevent flashing to modem.
Found this thread for a different phone which has the same issue you guys are having:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/failed-remote-flashing-allowed-modem-t3924591
If BL can be modified, the perhaps you can erase/flash Modemst1 & 2. If anyone knows of someone who tinkers with BL, bring them here :fingers-crossed:

i cant get the unlock code from fastboot. maybe there is a workaround like with the op7p where oneplus released a beta with an unlocked bootloader. i have the patched msm.exe from then but it wont load the .ops file.
is it possible that if i flash the eu or international .ops file it will allow me to unlock the bootloader?
Not that I know of yet. If you can't get the unlock code, most likely you're not sim unlocked.

Not that I know of yet. If you can't get the unlock code, most likely you're not sim unlocked.
Try tforce on Twitter or this

just spoke with tmobile and they said its not blocked and ready to be activated. also that without the tmobile unlock app i would have to test it with a new sim card. think it might be a problem if someone unlocked then factory reset before they sold it?
i read the post before making my own. i dont have the previous owners name or phone number.
also i looked up tforce on twitter but there's only 1 person with that @ and they dont seem like theyre active

i cant get the unlock code from fastboot. maybe there is a workaround like with the op7p where oneplus released a beta with an unlocked bootloader. i have the patched msm.exe from then but it wont load the .ops file.
is it possible that if i flash the eu or international .ops file it will allow me to unlock the bootloader?

I got the unlock code from fastboot, but when going to enter it on the OnePlus Site it says it is invalid because it is not a 64 digit unlock code. ????
I have an unlocked EU model IN2023 from Amazon UK and my OEM unlock button is greyed out. I'm so confused
I see this is an older thread, but I have the same problem with Nord CE; Oneplus support is not of any help (they just spam me with "we don't help with unlocking the bootloader, it's a security problem").
Anyone found a workaround?
