Fingerprint sensor in sunlight - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, everyone.
I just would like to ask if you're experiencing the same:
When indoor, the fingerprint sensor works like a charm. But when being outdoor and there's sun (it doesn't have to be directly shining at the screen), the fingerprint sensor has a high rate of failure. It doesn't matter if the screen brightness is at maximum or minimum, it just doesn't like bright environment it seems.
Are there any issues for you as well?

Cant comment... We dont get much sunshine in Scotland ?

Hahaha ???
For the topic: I'm using a TGSP (not fully adhesive), so maybe this can be connected to my issue? Probably the sun is highlighting the minimal visible patterned structure of the glass and so the FP sensor is confused?

How is the performance with the stock one on a bright day?
I'll set them up again in a complete dark environment as suggested for the 6T. Will see how it works then I'm sunlight. It's blazing fast everytime, except outdoor on a bright day... ?
EDIT: Registrating fingerprints in a completely dark room with screen brightness at maximum SOLVED my problem with A-Videt TGSP! It's working now in bright environment!

Hehe awesome, enjoy

Heart rate not reading? Here is my solution!

Just as a a pre-rac' this technique is not new I actually seen this been done to an athlete in a documentary (bored youtubing' one day). The method was to use to use a clear finger bandage to help a heart rate monitor read faster. I thought to do the same after having the app on the watch reports it wasn't able to read. I just bought 2 Zagg screens, one for the front and the other to cover the heart rate cam and light on the bottom. Now no matter the condition; sweating, moving around, and est, my rate could be read. Problem solved. if this helps you after you try please hit the botton please.
Nice! I bought a set of six screen protectors so I have extras to try this out.

Sorry for the delay. I finally tried this last night. While it does seem that it would help keep the sensor clean, the extra thickness makes it more difficult to put the charger on. I have removed it and will just wipe the sensor more often instead.

Light Bleed Issue

Are light bleed issues this noticeable normal for this phone? I've had multiple Androids and iPhones and have never noticed anything as obvious.
That is quite noticeable! Mine does not have that issue. I had bleeding issues with my former phones, but not that noticeable. If i were you, ill have it checked by the service center.

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to know if it was a normal thing with Huawei screens.
Mine seems to have the same noticeable light leaks, but only if I crank it up to the highest brightness setting. The most apparent ones are also near the Sim / SD card slots and another near the volume rockers. It doesn't bother me though. Does anyone else get these?

Yup, that's the exact same spots as my phone. It's very annoying to me when I tried to put dark wallpapers and during movie watching, especially for really widescreen vids that have to be letterboxed. Pretty disappointed in this.

I do not know if it will work for you, but it works for me. Just press strongly with your finger the bezel in a way that minimize the light bleed. Little by little you should manage to have à more homogenous back light.
Well, the light bleed problem is also noticeable in the replacement AM7 I received. Not very good for watching movies with lots of black or for using black themes/wallpapers imo. Here are pics of them next to an iPhone, all with the same wallpaper.
^wow, the light bleed issue in your unit is really serious! And even the replacement has the same problem?
However, in my unit, no matter how I try to look at it, in dark and completely black wallpapers, I cant seem to find any lihht bleed.
I wonder if other users here also experience this issue?
This situation is very frustrating. I wonder how common of a problem this is with the AM7?
haven't got my phone yet but will check it out for this issue
Wow. While my phne was in recovery installing latest OTA update, against a very dark bacground, I noticed the light bleed on the right side, where the power and volume buttons are located.
So yes, I confirm the light bleed. And I think it is a build issue.

Did you make sure auto brightness was disabled after sliding the brightness slider to max? Moving it to max alone doesn't give you maximum brightness.
As for the tint, you can change the colour temperature of your screen by going Settings -> Display -> Colour Temperature. Adjust that till you're happy with the colour tint.

I was in the store today..and the phone they have is even worse..the screen is looking white red..so it must be serial difderent from phone to phone

your phone is the one on the left @papaver?
its pretty yellowish and warmer. i was thinking of display settings, too, but you said you tried all settings and your friend's phone is still brighter.
also, that white spot is pretty alarming. i guess you have to show it to the service center technician for diagnostics.
Yeah..but the gold huawei in store is even worse.. i wouldnt notized the difference between screen if there werent be two mate7 at home..
Maybe i will give it to services..i asked today and in the store said that they have to send it to official service in our country and than it would take month or more to have back my phone..so i will see

It is not severe screen bleeding like the one in Poco F1. Just a minimal tint at the corner.
Well I'm using the redmi note 7 right now, and it does sometimes bleed but I've noticed that it only bleeds under bright light, like say you're out on a hot day, my phone would change its contrast to like those of a bleeding screen. But after stood under a dark shaded spot it turns back. So I think the phone itself is trying to adjust to the surrounding, and by mistake turned to bleeding screen instead of a better toned screen.

I'd take a picture of how severe the bleeding is but I don't have another phone to do so
Umm so I did some checking and I think the problem might be the face recognition sensor near the camera on the right. I know this because when I cover only the camera it still bleeds under sunlight, but when I cover the sensor it stops bleeding.

Ambient light sensor location

Finally, got the OP7 few days ago. I'm real happy about this phone except some few quirks. One of the thing that drives me nut sometimes is the auto brightness adjustment. First of all, why do the even call this the "Adaptive brightness" in the first place. Does it have any thing extra to the generic implementation?
Anyway the thing is the there could be something wrong with the way I hold the phone, covering the ambient light sensor. Making it not sense the changing lighting conditions. Anyone knows exactly where is it located?

What I found with auto ambient light sensors is that they allegedly learn your usage patterns. What I tend to do to help it learn quicker is that I'll manually adjust the brightness slider when it's too bright or too dark for me.

I'm not exactly sure where is located
But the thing about "adaptive brightness" is that it would learn from how you are using the phone so it would know how to behave in different light conditions.
Like for example : Maybe you don't like the brightness to go all the way down when you are in a pitch dark room but rather being a little bit above so technically what you need to do is to manually adjust to the desired brightness and so adaptive brightness will learn that you like it that way in that condition.
The more you adjust it the best it should get ( give it a few weeks ) but right now i think it's a little bugged, but some have reported that is been fixed in the last Q dev rom.

Oh I see. That's good to know. I was not aware of this. As far as the proximity and ambient light sensors are considered. They don't physically exist rather the proximity and ambient response is done without hardware but with software with AI. You can refer the link below regarding this for a better understanding coz I don't really know how, it seems sophisticated.

Yep, even on my s10plus its glitchy in fact I'd go further by saying it doesn't work like it used to.
Example, the alway on display now doesn't turn off when you cover the ambient sensor where as in the previous older devices like the note 9 it would. When using a folio wallet case the screen still stays on for AOD.

It's behind the screen, just like the OP7 Pro. You can see the IR light with another camera. Or in direct sunlight, you can see two holes just below the camera cutout (and finger print).
Basically same as 7 Pro... which is not like old sensors.

Question Are these jagged punch-hole edges normal on all Pixel 6a units ?

The punch-hole's circumference is noticeably jagged. Please zoom in on the image attached. You'll see that the boundary of the punch-hole circle is not smooth. Apologies if the image does not convey my point. You may check you own device's punch-hole on full brightness, on a white background to get the idea.
I'd like to know if this is the case with every unit of Pixel 6a or if this is normal.
There's also some very tiny amount of green-tint/rainbow-ish effect around some part of the circumference of the punch-hole, although it is barely visible and is probably just my eyes' fault.
Thanks in advance.
Are you talking about the pixels themselves on the display?
Pixels are square. The punch hole is a circle, so it's going to look like that if you zoom in enough.
We don't need no stinking laser...
Lol it does look a bit crude but then again I never scrutinize my Samsung's stupid hole that closely.
Mine looks fine and so does yours. Yeah if blow up your macro shot to 3x can see maybe not laser perfect but the circle is also cutting over pixels, so that's to be expected. I don't notice any rainbowing on mine

Thanks for the reply. I was referring to the boundary/border/circumference of the black punch-hole. I suppose I was being too critical. From a normal distance it all seems fine.

Run Screen Test to determine the color integrity of the pixels around the hole. Colors should be uniform. I always test the display on a new phone and as it ages.
Thanks for the response. I might run a screen test, although the screen seems perfectly fine as it is from average working distances. I was probably being way too ocd about the whole issue.

An interesting thread. The flashing proximity sensor threads were common a while back. One or two flashing pixels on phone calls drove some Samsung users mad. Never even notice it before
Always a good idea to run Screen Test to help spot display issues especially on a new device or one that's under warranty.
I test my 3yo N10+ every month or two. It's bright so don't linger too long when doing it.
Any display pixel anomalies are easy to spot.
Any wrong color pixels at the hole would confirm you suspicions. With 20/10 vision and no magnification though the hole should seem smooth, at least on a N10+.
