Settings Force close - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

I installed a new version of the settings app (I'm assuming from the OnePlus 7) and now it only Force closes. Any suggestions on how to downgrade it? I can't access the app info. I'm not rooted and don't want to. I also can't access recovery because I guess my phone is encrypted and asking for a password but I never set it.

What did you download, from where? What OS? Substratum (this could be it if your themed)? Logs?

It's the OnePlus settings app from apkmirror. No root or mods or themes. Open Beta 18

The password for recovery is the PIN you have on your phone.

Hi,
I had the same issue as you but I was rooted and had TWRP. I tried to install OOS 9.0.5 again but it didn't worked...
So the last idea I had was to boot on the second partition.
And it worked.
You can try to boot on fastboot and type : "fastboot--setactive=_a" or "fastboot--setactive=_b" to switch partition and reboot. It should work for you too.

Oh that's a good idea. I ended up getting one of the app uninstaller apps from the play store and was able to uninstall the settings update.

cant login to Snapchat

I can't log into Snapchat on my OnePlus one. This has started very recently, after a factory reset.
My account is not locked, as I have logged in on my iPhone. I did try to unlock it however to no avail.
I have no 3rd party Snapchat apps installed.
Some apps I have that might be causing the problem:
Titanium backup
Magisk manager (with magisk hide enabled)
Catlog
FX file explorer
Rom: resurrection remix (6/20 update)
Kernel: resurrection kernel
A0001(bacon)
yeah its because of root, UNroot then log in then root again. its the most simple way.
I Found the reason and the resolution in the OnePlus 3T forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/help/snapchat-fail-login-root-t3571405
"Snapchat checks for root and purposely prevents you from logging in if it find it. If you rooted with SuperSU, try installing Chainfire's SUHide. Otherwise, if you rooted with Magisk, enable MagiskHide in Magisk Manager."
It took forever to find this solution, it worked!
I use SU# and it was simple to "unroot" from within the SU# app
1. click on the settings in the upper right, scroll down to the "cleanup" section, select full unroot, accept all the warning messages, the phone will reboot into recovery and then reboot the phone after it finishes. Your phone may cycle through the reboot process a couple of times
2. log back into your phone, then you can log into the Snapchat app.
3. now you can re-root your phone, if you want to.
Cheers.
For me the easiest way was to install SC in other nonrooted device and log in. After that, use Titanium Backup to export the data app, then from the rooted device just import data and that was it.

I wonder why they have such dumb policies. Can't they just simply increase their encryption level? Other social apps don't have any issues with root and they're also secure af!

Brand new HD 10 what to do first?

Hey everyone. Sorry for the noob questions.
I just got a 2017 hd 10. Haven't booted it yet. Would like to root, install gapps, and have Nova as default. My hope is to use it like a normal Android tablet.
Should I root before updating? Can I update after the root? Would the update even matter if I'm using Nova?
Thanks!

What version FireOS? You can only root from PC, so no need to worry about updates until you turn on wifi. When ready change the name of /system/priv-app/DevicSoftwareOTA/DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk by putting a _ at the end of it so it's .apk_
If you flash gapps, you may need to uninstall a few Amazon apps. Set up FlashFire accordingly and download pico gapps 5.1.1 and flash it. Debloat from there. Use rooted activity launcher to explore Amazon apps. Before registering to Google, use it to launch Amazon device settings, prod and devo mode. Put the device in devo mode. This may assist in debloating and when you get enough space, flash nano gapps. Don't uninstall what you don't know. Install my Framework and FireTabletSettings APKs for an even better experience. Simple search of this forum will reveal them. Here is activity launcher, download zip and unzip. https://github.com/DerekZiemba/RootActivityLauncher

Thanks. My version is 5.6.01.
Ok, I am now rooted with Nova installed as a system app.
Also, noob question. How do you enable Reboot from the power menu? I only see shut down.

Yeah nothing works off the power button but the standalone apps like quick reboot or reboot manager will reboot and such via app

you cant, you gotta download one of those "reboot" apps
also, i did exactly what you did (took it out the box and wiped almost all the amazon crop off it lol) and it worked awesomely. the only thing i found was to set your lockscreen image you need to use the amazon photos app (it will change both your lockscreen and homepage wallpapers), and then you can use the app of your choosing to change your homescreen wallpaper

Your device is corrupted -HELP-

Hi, i have a oneplus 6 rooted with magisk running twrp recovery and last night i was messing around with a mock location spoofer and everything was going okay but after a reboot my phone started only going into safe mode and i couldnt access anything basically my phone screen would flash on then off then on and off again constantly.
i Followed this tutorial https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonGoSpoofing/comments/8ytjz5/expert_mode_for_fake_gps_and_routes/
then after that i had trouble using systemizer to make the app a system app so i used lucky patcher instead.
after all this my phone was working fine
the final thing i done what wasnt on the tutorial was used a package manager app to disable all location services from a very low software level. after that the safe mode thing started happening.
what i have tried so far -
i have tried going into the root and deleteing the app folder for the APK MANAGER app hoping that this would remove any changes it caused.
i have also tried using the magisk uninstaller to try and remove root.
now my phone wont even boot. i get a screen on start up saying my phone is corrupt and it just loops on this screen.
Before i do a full reflash and loose everything i thought id put my last hope on here and see if anyone can help me resolve this without a reflash.
Thanks for any help i'm stupid and didn't back up before hand

uninstall any system app will fail in boot error

up to Android version 9.0.8 it was no problem to uninstall system stock apps.
since 9.0.9 and now also 10.3 its not working any more.
even when i uninstall only one app e.g. google pay , the system will not boot on next restart.
i have only root via pached boot (Magisk Root without TWRP for OnePlus 6 Oxygen)
to get boot again i have to flash stock boot and install hole system via zip. (no data will be lost)
what security level recognize that some system apps are missing?

How are you uninstalling the system apps?
root and try again!
with app "system app uninstaller"
root and try again will be the same
iam the only which have that problem?
how do you uninstall system apps?
try to use titanium backup next time
what kind of app u installed ? if its like stock from the rom itself, sometiems yes it will not boot up. and why did u uninstall it.. i mean its not that heavy.
There's ur first issue. Don't use an app dude. Either use the debloat Magisk module or do it through adb. Apps have a tendency to f*** up
in the versions before 9.0.8 it was not a problem to uninstall it.

It in android 10 you can delete apps permanently through twrp, these 3rd party apps not yet compatible to delete them even with root.

I tried using TB and no success. A pop-up was displayed in TB when I tried to unistall an stock app saying it was not possible (or so on, I don't remember the text). I did it in OOS 10.3.0.
In my experience, the only way to not see the apps is freezing them witn TB, for instance.

Fingerprint Auth Revoke For Some Apps After Reboot

Hi,
I have BV9800Pro with Android Pie (MediaTek P70) and now I noticed that after reboot, some banking apls and lockmypix app has problem with fingerprint. Jf I go to settings, remove it and add it again, then all is ok again with all apls, but after reboot, banking apps + lockmypix dows not allow for me to unlock uaing fingerprint because "biometric data changed" as one app tells me.
Any ideas? Has any one had such issue? How to fix this?
P.S., i Have tried ro disable xposed and magisk, nothing helped, only factory reset, but after that, I couldn't identify what caused this issie to come back again.
P.P.S., if I have let's say 2 fingerprints saved, and delete any of them, all appa back to normal until I reboot.

Any idea what might caused it? P.S., previously I have flashed the complete rom except userdata partition, and the issie was still there. Even if I disable all magic modules and xposed as well, the issue remain.
Has anyone faced something like that? Personally, I think some file is being overwritten after reboot and it might cause this issue. That's the only logical explanation I can figure out.
