Mi Mix 3 rear camera, how durable? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

Given the beautiful looks of Mi Mix 3, I have installed only tempered glass (front) and film protection (invisibleshield). For the rear camera, I have used the leftover cut-out from the film protection. Obviously since it is just leftover, the film protecting the rear camera is not a perfect fit and does not look good. IMO, the provided case in the box does not offer much protection for the rear camera (I can see the camera almost flushed with the case). If I'm going to remove the film protection from rear camera, how durable is the rear camera from day to day use? Will laying it in the table will scratch it? Is there a phone case that will provide protection and at the same time show-off the beauty of mi mix 3?

If your table is harder than the camera glass it's made out of then yes it will scratch. Will a normal table scratch it, of course not

Buy a case that can cover rear camera. Its gorrila glass but small sands can easily scratch.

Go for Imak stealth clear case, highly recommend.
Or if you want some protection and willing to sacrifice the thin, Imak airbag stealth will do.
They're hard to find because mi mix 3 are not popular, i got them shipping from chinese by lazada.

Any cases that offer camera protection too?

Looking for a case that offers a window or door to cover the camera lens- even with thick cases, my camera lenses on my phones tend to get destroyed (why aren't these made of gorilla glass?). Any suggestions? Thanks
I've noticed the same problem. In quite a few drop test videos I've watched, the camera lens cracked before the screen. I have the Urban Armor Gear and it provides some protection by adding a small lip around the camera. At least it won't get scratched when I use it on a flat surface. But I haven't come across any cases that offer additional protection for the camera.
What I can tell you is that the replacement lens is pretty cheap. I think around $10. It seems like something an average user can replace themselves.

This is what I am using.
I use the caseology case wich has a nice lip around the camera lense which protects it pretty well. bought it from here:

Camera scratches

Even through I always have cases that leave the camera behind I noticed my camera is getting tiny scratches all over. I'm scared at some point it will affect the camera quality so I would like to know if there is some "easy way" to remove those scratches (and safe please)
No way I'm aware of to remove scratches. However, you can buy glass lens protectors (like mini tempered glass screen protectors) for the camera lens of these phones on ebay. They are like two bucks for a three pack.
I tried to get a TGSP for the Camera, but it was plastic, not glass, as claimed and it would not stay affixed.
I got a GadgetShieldz vinyl skin and it seems to be doing a better job and staying put.

I think removing the scratches actually makes more sense than any protection skin, since the skin never covers the viewfield of the camera and only scratches on the lens itself have any impact on picture quality...
Do a search online for: OEM Camera Glass Lens Z2 Play
Camera glass cover is replaceable and available $1.99 online. I picked up several and treat it as a wear item like a screen protector.

What is the process for changing?
Heat gun > lift > apply new lens cover > heat gun > press?
Any additional glue needed?

I've bought the Spigen rugged armor along with the phone since a year. It is not too thick, solid (phone fell 3 or 4 times), and no camera bump ! Never got any scratches

No, it means the opposite this case gives a slight extra thickness so it's not in contact.

Is it possible to remove scratches with buff?
I never had scratches on the camera tbh. Remember, the only thing that's gonna scratch your camera is sand, diamonds or other hard stuff. Metal, wood, plastic etc shouldn't leave scratches.

Tempered glass lense protection, is it worth?

Hi!
I use my OP6 without any case and I was wondering if a glass lens is usefull to protect my back camera?
Anyone has already used one?
Is it worth? does it really protect from cracking?
Here an exemple: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/3Pcs-HD-Tem...hash=item1cae4c45d8:m:mWQGQ8rl5aZX9SkX3jfp7pg
Thank you
Personally, I'd be Leary of covering my camera lens with anything.
Even the TG covers for the front leave the camera lens exposed.

Stock like TPU case but with better camera protection?

So guys,
I'm looking for a case that is similar to the one provided with the phone, but with a better cover for camera bump. The purpose is to protect camera lens from scratches when putting in table and other rough places.
This one looks like it, but not sure whether it actually protects camera bump. I've asked the seller about it, But I don't think we could rely on that answer.
Has anybody bought something like this please?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Xiaomi...-Soft-Rubber-Silicone-Cover-Case/163332207379
Also secondly, if not the case,
1) Do you think its good to use a tempered glass like protection for camera? Would it affect camera quality?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tempered-G...omi-Redmi-Note-5-Pro-5X-A1-6X-A2/202448413656
2) Or what about a soft pouch? like this

Thank you

PZOZ case on aliexpress. Don't get tempered glass camera protector they make all photos look bad.
I have second Mi A2 (first I returned due faulty screen glass) and it came with slightly different case - the first one had full cutout for camera module, the second (I thing updated/revised version) has lip covering whole module, lip over the border.
Anyway, I dont know if it is possible to get this case individually

Question Rear cameras material

What material is the glass that protects the rear cameras made of? Thank you.
AndroidAuthority says it's "specialized sapphire glass"
" Around the rear of the Pixel 7, you’ll find the same Gorilla Glass Victus as the front, so there’s not much difference here. Note that, like on most other smartphones, the camera lenses live here, too. You should keep these free from scratches and dirt to ensure you get the best possible picture quality. Also, remember that camera lenses use specialized sapphire glass, which doesn’t share the same durability rating as Gorilla Glass. "

Be careful about wording. They said "Also, remember that camera lenses use specialized sapphire glass, which doesn’t share the same durability rating as Gorilla Glass." -- that doesn't mean THIS camera lens, it means camera lenses in general. Also make note of the fact that they said LENS and not "LENS COVER". The camera lenses are those little round things.

Yes. Maybe android authority is talking camera lenses material in this case and not lens covers.
Lens cover is maybe corning made or something similar that would not scratch or break easily.

It's really hard also to find info about this I give up. I think most phones uses corning glass on camera lens covers.

I contacted support, they don't know either.
I was wondering why I'm worried about scratching them without protection but with protection I'm afraid of losing image quality.
The OnePlus 6T I used specified sapphire crystal.
Don't know what type of glass is, but I guess it will handle almost the same as the screen or the back.
Anyway, it's better to have it protected.
these two videos leave me with even more doubts, in one it seems scratched by the sandpaper, in the other by the cutter it doesn't

You can't compare sandpaper with cutter blades.
The sandpaper, as you can guess by the name, mostly will have sand on it, and sand it's a very, very, very, hard material, and it can scratch almost all type of glass, unless you have a "glass" made of diamond.
Almost all the cutter blades are made of a soft material compared with Gorilla Glass or other hard glass for example.
The best you can do is protect it with a case or even with some type of skin on it.
The aluminum part of the visor it's even worst, it's a very, very, very soft material, and almost everything will scratch it easily.
If you usually carry it in your pockets, small dust sand particles on it can easily scratch the camera visor and the camera lens protection.

Thank you very much, you have been very thorough. Obviously I use a cover and it doesn't bother me to think that the metal part can be damaged, the only fear is the glass for fear of losing photographic quality
