Custom roms on Sprint - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
I seem to not be able to get mobile data with ANY custom rom I have tried except HavocOS on my Moto X4 with sprint, HavocOS seems to get really slow 3G.
I did a bit of searching the forums here and see a few posts saying its impossible to get anything but 3G on sprint with a custom rom.
I installed LineageOS but I don't even get 3G. I tried HavocOS and I get 3G but it doesn't display sprint in the top corner it says something like 30001.
Why is it so hard to get data working on sprint? If I restore the stock rom i get 4G LTE. Am I doing something incorrectly or is it really impossible to get working data on sprint?

[Q] Unable to connect Rogers LTE using BuoyAOSPsy

Do any of you have any experience using this custom rom on your Rogers SGS2 LTE? After installing this, I'm not able to connect to LTE...it seems to be stuck in 4G no matter where I go in the city (BTW, I'm in Vancouver). I've even tried to flash the stock Rogers radio onto my phone and played around with the band settings..but still the same thing. When I restore back to my stock rom, I'm able to get LTE speeds.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

Are you actually running speed tests, or are you just going by the icons? BuoyAOSPsy has an unfortunate tendency to give the same "H" symbol for LTE and HSPA+. Working on fixing it in the next build.
Thanks jomeister15! I just ran a speedtest...and you are absolutely correct about the LTE icon not showing up correctly. It just seems to be stuck on 4G even though I'm on the LTE network. Looking forward to the next build =) Very nice rom so far!

Always roaming

Hi, since I got my Galaxy s3, I'm always roaming. I didn't have to stray too far away from the store before the roaming started to happen. It seems that if I do not have 3g, or 4g I'm constantly roaming. I have read on here that there is a way to fix the always roaming issue, but I didn't know if it applied to flashing a bad rom and then getting the always on roaming message. Mine has been like this since day 1 when I bought the phone at completely stock settings. I recently flashed CleanROM, and still have the always on roaming messages.
Should I attempt to use this application, or would I risk doing something terrible to the phone?
what prl do you have? any just to make sure what carrier?
Different prl's can cause it to roam. You may can pull battery and sim and sdcard, wait 30 sec or so reinstall any boot. Then check prl again, see if it changes.

What is PRL? I do have Verizon. .. I also have a nationwide plan, so I know for certain I'm not being charged for roaming, it just shows that I am all the time.
"HOME-ONLY roam setting on touch wiz roms like on CM based roms
New to posting on here, so be patient... I have been flashing roms however since the Motorola droid 1 and love the mods we can do to our phones. Now I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, flashed to CleanRom, newest version as of this date. I love the battery life on this Rom but work near the Mexican border where it easily switches to roaming. My question is that on CM roms I'm able to go into roaming settings and select either Automatic (default) or Home Only which will prevent anything but a Verizon signal. Works awesome. I don't know why this is unique to CM or AOSP roms and not touch wiz. Is there a way we can have that added or even an app that will do that very thing? Sometimes I have to just backup my rom and flash CM just to use my phone without roaming on to the Mexican cell tower. It's very frustrating. Thanks for any advice.
If this needs to be in its own thread, could someone let me know and help me out with that?
Thanks, Scott.

Best GSM ROM for xt926?

So I'm switching over to AT&T, and I was wondering what is the best ROM for using GSM? I tried BeanStalk, but I couldn't pull any AT&T to my phone. I'd keep Verizon if their prepaid offered LTE, but sadly, it doesn't so I'm switching to a free and open network.
Help me get a good ROM on here!
I'd like to know too. Currently running LiquidSmooth, and my data keeps turning off and sometimes works. It's really a nuisance.

[Q] anybody else having 4g connection issues?

About 3 weeks ago after installing the update of liquidsmooth 4.4.4 i randomly started dropping to 3g service in places that i normally had full 4g available. It has slowly gotten worse to where if im not on wifi, than the phone is pretty much useless. i normally have full coverage everywhere. so i originally thought that maybe something had gotten messed up on the update, so i did a clean install of liquidsmooth 4.4, and blackbird kernal and same thing still occurred. also tried carbon rom and slimrom, and no luck. so for the fun of it, i went ahead and reflashed the phone back to stock from backups and rerooted it, updated the modems and reinstalled liquidsmooth w/ blackbird kernal, and same thing. i have went through all the mobile networks settings and tried everything and nothing seems to help, idk if that update screwed something up or if its an issue that others have been experiencing as well, or if im just screwed and my phone phone is dying.... any help is appreciated thanks

I'm currently running OmniToad, and ran CM 11M8 for a short while. On T-Mobile at least, with the custom ROMs it's normal to see H+ only when data is being transferred; it will drop back to 3G otherwise. When I ran the stock ROM on the Relay, it would always say "4G" regardless of whether it was in UMTS (3G) or HSPA+ mode. Apps like SignalCheck or CellMapper will tell you which mode it is really in.
On the other hand, if data transmission is only going through as 3G, it could be a phone issue or a tower issue. Is LTE available in your area, or are they just getting it set up? I know when T-Mobile was upgrading the Chicago area to provide LTE, there were a few glitches here and there.
It was stupid for T-Mobile to brand HSPA+ as "4G" but that's a different rant.

yea LTE has been in this area for quite a while now, i had it with my S4 and it worked perfectly, i never had a problem with the service on the relay either up untill a few weeks ago the internet speed and and data coverage was great, not quite as fast as the LTE on my S4 but it was still more than adequate, i used to use the hotspot and stream netflix on my laptop. now i can usually get a text to send but calls usually fail and if i try and use the internet its impossible. it almost seems like its doing the exact opposite of what it should be doing, as soon as i try and use anything (not while connected to wifi) than it drops coverage to 3g/edge/ or to nothing at all. Im leaning towards the hardware failing side, but i figured i might as well give it a shot and post it and see if maybe i wasnt alone. thank you for your reply.
small note of background on me: first time posting ever in this forum but have been using the tools and roms from it for a long time, so im not a complete noob, but i definitely still have a lot to learn.

CM13 no sim card, Stock works fine + TIP Ringplus free 3GB LTE

Hi, I decided to breathe some new life into my nexus 5 that was just sitting around. I found out that our device is compatible with the ringplus network. Free 3gb lte, 3k texts and minutes, so now I have a backup phone I leave in my car simply for tethering or the occasional calling and text.
Anyways it works great on stock, but I also use my nexus 5 to flash various roms, and I have my heart settled on Cm13 Temasek CAF by mohican. Its a great rom and I love to use it, but after flashing cm13 I completely lost connection. I figured it was an apn issue or something, and after spending hours trying to troubleshoot it and trying various ringplus zips I found on the net (like the mvnoslayer zip in another xda thread) my phone refuses to detect the simcard.
Weird right?
I flashed back to stock and instantly locked onto a strong lte signal. But stock is... stock. Is there anyone out there with more knowledge that knows how to fix this? Im guessing cm13 doesnt support ringplus, is there anything I can do? It has to be a software issue, and if it works fine on stock, maybe there is a way I can backup my entire network configuration (if possible?) and restore it on cm13?
i dont think its possible dude. have you had any luck? ive been plugging away with apns and everything. most i got is everything except outgoing text going.
