After 4 years, my mediapad is dying :( - Huawei MediaPad X2

Well after 4 years, It's finally on its last legs. It's been a brilliant phone. Time for a upgrade but not sure what to get.
I'd love another phablet, but they're not really practical for what I'm doing right now.
I've become a avid gym goer recently, and need a phone that can take awesome pictures, love taking pictures. Maybe have wireless charging (because I've gone through around 12+ cables so far with this phone.) also headphone jack or good bluetooth for a headset. What would you guy's suggest to upgrade to?
Although the Honor note 10 looks like a decent upgrade for the Huawei mediapad x2, but my god its like £700.

I'm in the same boat but mine is still alive although always very low on storage due to massive APK and ODEX file sizes that I keep deleting.
I also want to upgrade very much so but FOR ME, every phone these days has a 18.7:9 aspect ratio at best which is basically shaped like a hotdog. None of the newer phones have a screen wider than 3.1" which is annoying considering the X2 screen width is 3.7".
The closest phone I have found is the one that @ajsmsg78 has which is the Huawei Mate 20 X which looks to be a beast and I wish it's screen width was just half an inch wider. Also note that many phones not originating From North America such as the Mate 20 may not have LTE bands in USA. In Canada where I am LTE works with my carrier.

Definitely check out the Mate 20 X. I've had mine since November and it's probably the best phone I've ever owned. It has full LTE support on AT&T and T-Mobile. It's a 7.2 inch screen but it's not that big. Here are pics of them next to each other.

That looks like a good upgrade for sure. Just wonder why they haven't made a newer version of the x2.

The Chinese version of the Mate 20 X is on AliExpress for $569.99. It has dropped in price so it's a good time to think about buying one. I paid $899 for mine in November when it was released. Quite a few of us X2 users have switched to the 20 X.

Bought a pocophone F1, turned it into the pixel 3.

Anyone moved from Xperia Z Ultra to the X2? Looking for feedback

I am considering this mainly because of the 7" screen and bigger battery.
So if you moved from the XZU, please share your experience.
Also, it seems I really want the 703L for US not the 702L, correct?
Thanks!
I'd say go for it. I had a Sony Z Ultra GPE before and I am now using an X2 702L with 703L 5.1.1 firmware for it. The instructions to install 703L firmware on the 702L is a bit confusing, but if you read and write down your steps before hand, you should be good.
X2 is Awesome
I owned the XZU as well. I liked the big screen but I didn't care for how flexible the body could be. I hated the battery life. I simply Googled largest cell phone and found the X2. 5000 mAH battery is awesome. The only drawback is that it doesn't pick up LTE from AT&T. I got over that quick. 3G is good enough for me. Also difficult to find accessories except for Amazon and eBay. I bought the 703L. It's an awesome phone at a great price. Got mine for less than 400 brand new.

My Ultra has not LTE so I wont miss it. I am really getting pumped about get the X2 now. Battery life or replaceable battery was one of my main and likely only issue with the Ultra. I am not crazy about the colors on the screen either when watching some netflix show. Plus the 7" while keeping it small is very good for me. Just wish it had stereo speakers or at least that the speaker was in front but oh well.
Another thing was that I kept waiting and waiting for Sony to release a new Ultra. After seeing how their phones have just stagnated lately, I didn't have a problem with leaving them for Huawei. I wish I would have heard of Huawei sooner. I'm proud to tell people that my tablet is indeed a phone and it's made by the 3rd largest cell company in the world (that most have never heard of).

I was so pumped up about this until now that I just realized, it does not have NFC :/ Looks like the P8 Max does not have it either. I cant believe such new phones lacking that feature.
I use it very often to pair with my Sony A7ii camera as doing it manually is annoying. Also to send files to my wife.
I will have to think if I am willing to live without it.

Yep, I had a Z Ultra and moved to the X2 this past July. The Z Ultra was the worst phone I've ever owned. The battery was undersized, the camera had no flash and the phone was way too big for it's screen size. It had a bigger chin than Jay Leno. The phone was put out of it's misery after I tried using the magnetic charger with it which completely fried the device. I returned it for a full refund (it was two weeks old) and got the X2 which is 100x better. Yeah, make it easier on yourself and get the 703L, it will be easier to update and ROM. I felt the same way about it not having NFC but when I bought it all doubt was laid to rest. The phone is awesome for the price you'll be paying.

mmm aside from the non repleceable battery, the Ultra has been my favorite phone of MANY so to each its own. I just want something new because I get bored after so long waiting for a good replacement...alas the Mediapad lacking NFC suddenly put a stop to my upgrade mood. Still trying to decide if I can deal with the non NFC.
Not like there are really any other options at 7" so its like Mediapad or keep what I have...1st world issues but issues nonetheless

P8 Max in Fall of 2016

Is it worth it to buy a P8 Max now in 2016 even though it came out in July of 2015 more than a year ago? What is your opinion? There does not seem to be much choice for smartphones at the 6.8 inch size. I had a 6 incher but now I know I need something bigger. Buying a more year old phone has advantages and disadvantages. The OS is old and may not get an update. Would it even be available in a new condition from a trustworthy source? ( My friend got burned by unknowingly buying a waterlogged phone off of Ebay). On the other hand the price should come down a lot because not many want it at that point.
It depends what you need it for and what amount you can get it for.
we got two of these in household and sofare very happy with them, one silver 64gb premiumversion purchased summer15 at BG 490US and the other late 2015 32GB titanium grey for 290US.
Im very fund of the camera in this fellow, and pretty amazed of the light its sensor contains, in fx putting on a tripod and nightsky and shutterfeatures. (it carries a 4 colored sensor, that includes white RGBW in regards to RGB for most) and handles it on dedicated socalled DSLR signal processor ' i for one ' like the result it performs.. the OIS is okay with 1.2 angle drift, not the best in class anymore, but at the time it was the double OIS effect of like contenders like Iphone+6 with 0.6 degrees, not sure how many axes the OIS is based on but will reckon its 2..
the overall-finish and thiness, its pretty outstanding.... its an fascinating piece of hardware.... -the battery shouldnt be that difficult to change if needed.. based on a few screws behind the bottomstrip on the back and cost around 16US for an original huawei 4230..
the GPU that Huawei suited this fellow up with is not flagship worthy, the CPU is pretty potent, but if you big 3dgamer on your mobile.. there is better alternatives, but overall at the release it was on par with the contenders, on stock non rooted tops out around 4175 in Geekbench3 32bit...
also cherise the landscape-homescreens based in thumps management, - and in my view is an quite impressiv quality-LTPS-fhd-panel they have suited in this fellow..
otherwise take an look at the Honor Note8. it aint 6.8 but 6.6 inch. it weighs the same as the p8max and is little thicker but seems to be an interesting fellow as of 3q 2016 with decent specs, and partically if your looking for an big screen mobile, but they are both on the emui4 as i recall..
DaneLaw,
Wow, nice post. Thank you for taking the time to respond. The Honor Note 8 does look pretty good but the 2/8 of an inch smaller screen might bother me. There is the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra with a not so nice processor.
I just wish tablets could make phone calls. Then I would be all set. LOL.
The SD in the Asus is so much better than the Kirin if you wanna get the latest Android.
Personally, am a little irked that the P8Max has no NFC. Am actually thinking about switching to the Mate 8..
Not sure if it will be worth the change P8Max has a great screen size

eastcyber, once you go big you cannot go smaller. At least I would not do something like that.
DaneLaw, I wanted to buy the P8 Max when it came out but it was priced out of my budget. I ended up getting the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 a long while after it came out when the price came down. I really loved it. I have to say Huawei makes some great phones.
Hi! Here is ny take on the subject;
-If you just want a large phone and not that interested in rooting or customizing the ROM of your phone, then the Huawei P8 Max will be more than sufficient. Go and Get It I say! It has one of the best designs of recent times an has a very powerful audio setup. I am also using my at DPI 288 with TFS Launcher.
-If you want something more up to date with a CPU that does not lag when multiple apps are launching and you are looking for a bit of customization of the ROM and rooting etc…-lets say you are an advanced usur that wants to feel unique with his device, then stay away from P8 Max and consider the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra, which is what I am looking to get soon but hard at work to get the 128GB version which is very rare to find or does not exist-wish any forum user from Taiwan could help help me buy it.
-Huawei to me makes great hardware in great designs but their painfully slow approach to updates and the lack of support for the developer community makes me think of it as the Apple of the Android world-a control freak that does not care about user satisfaction. I have the model DAV-701L and still waiting for Android 6.0 update. I have put my one on sale on ebay so if anyone is interested then you can PM me as this is the International model Google Play Services/Store are preinstalled and works on all European FDD-LTA bands unlike the China/Asia only version.

What's the argument with rooting and customizing? P8max can easily be rooted and customized. There is a lack of custom software support, but you can do a lot on your own, if you're an "advanced user".
I also experience no lag at all if I'm running multiple apps, Kirin is doing a great job here.
I'd go for a P8max again anytime. The only competitor I see is the Asus Zenfone Ultra, but I like the design of the P8max a lot more.
I'm pretty sure I'll keep this phone for a long time now.

m00h, Huawei does make nice designs. I like how the bezel is small on such a big screen. It makes the phablet not as bulky. By the way guys, does it have a radio receiver to listen to local stations? I do not see that information listed on any website.

Yes it do got an FM radio, like we often see' where it ask for headphones to be used as antenna, and with speaker symbol op left ' if you need its own speaker to carry the radiosound while headphones or just an jack-antenna is connected.
Don't fall into the Corporation/Media hype that you HAVE to have the latest and greatest otherwise you're left behind, especially when the phone is only a year old because this is how they get your money.
If you need to buy a phone right away just do it, but if you can wait there is no harm, but keep in mind as of right now there is no "P9 Max", only P9 Plus which is a 5.5" phone I believe, so if you need a big phone P8 Max is your best bet for sure.
I have done my research a lot recently before buying the P8 Max and I chose it because it had the best design and performance in the big phone class, it has an Octa-Core cpu which is already overkill and a really good battery, I would say go for it.
Also Note: If you do end up purchasing it, make sure you get the 703L, because they get updates often, I already have the Android 6.0 while the rest still don't have it.

To be honest I was in the same boat as you until recently, I didn't buy it when it came out because it was like almost a $1000 after shipping and all, then ended up getting it for like $400.
Anyways good luck with whatever you decide or have decided!
Android 6.0?
Torguy,
Is the DAV-703L for Android 6.0 worth it? I saw an Ascend Mate 7 Android 4.4.4 get updated to Android 5.0.1 and did not really see a difference because EMUI covered most changes. I did not see the point in upgrading the OS. What do you guys think?

My apologies, I didn't iterate correctly when I said "I already have Android 6.0" in my prior post, I meant to say I already have the update available but have not downloaded it because I heard Android 5.1 is running much better.
I mean if it ain't broke why fix right, I will just leave it as is until there is ever any updates that really do require me to update.
What sucks for me now is that it turns out that my phone will not work for Wind Mobile, a Carrier I am switching to in Canada, due to the fact that 703L is kind of limited on supported networks, where as 701L has international supported Carriers and would work with Wind Mobile, so now I have to sell my phone soon which really really sucks

are you sure there isnt any international 4G'support.. we got two p8max in household (1silver premium 64GB-703L and 1xtitaniumgrey32GB-703L) both now takes 4G after latest EMUI 4.0 M6 and it works brilliantly..
Im left with the feeling that Huawei activated more of the phones 4G bands with EMUI4.0 like perhaps band20 since Im now got high 4G speeds n Copenhagen, that Didnt before.
Wrote about it here and the hardware on 703L hence 4g simply was software related and been acti´vated with latest upgrade.. we are getting solid 4G speed all the time now here in Scandinavia. / we didnt before on 703L.

Htc u ultra pre orders

I've just pre ordered blue version from cpw UK for £649.00.
Samsung fans will call me crazy but I'm currently using S7 Edge blue coral colour and I'm still hating touchwiz. Love the phone though.
My reasons for buying HTC U ULTRA are many and there are few cons.
I'm a sucker for big screens I think minimum for me is 5.7".
QHD and love the second screen.
4gb ram is ok obviously would have loved 6gb.
I wonder if many are considering buying HTC U ULTRA?
I was quietly waiting for HTC to release the price but I've been left disappointed. I really can't see how the Ultra justifies a £649 price tag. Something closer to £500 would have been more reasonable IMO.
I don't think it's going to be a big seller, shame I think timing is awful. Should have realeased this around Dec, could have charged that much then.
I do agree it's bit expensive ideally should have been around 550.00 max.
I've just pre-ordered mine on contract, hope that this is as good as my (lost) HTC 10!

I actually quite like Super LCD so no concerns there for me.
I didn't pre-ordered my next 10th HTC yet, the U Ultra (Black) of course. Need to sell my HTC 10 before
5.7" is perfect for me. The phone I kept the longuest (2 years) was the One Max and its 5.9" screen. The HTC 10 is just perfect, but the small 5.2" screen.

The main reason I'm going to buy the U Ultra is its 5.7" screen.
Next I know I'll retrieve what I love about my 10: responsiveness, excellent sound and photo. Everything the U Ultra has over the 10 is bonus.
Does this answer your question ? I could go more detailed if needed
Edit:
I remember well when the One Max was announced, it was almost shot in flammes because it was "just" a supersized One M7: too big, same SD SoC,... Why hadn't HTC put, six months later, the next SD, and blah blah blah...
I had then the One M7 and most happy with it, but I couldn't resist the One Max 5.9" screen for movies and web surfing, and I switched for the better. I kept it for 2 years. I remember my colleagues from the beginning, wondering I was doing with such a big phone, in the end most of the time a bit jealous for the comfort it provided.
The One Max hadn't OIS when the One M7 had it, but no big deal for me.
I sold it a colleague, a woman (yes!), and the One Max is still alive and kicking
I hoped the 10 would be bigger, but I bought it nevertheless and enjoying it until I receive the U Ultra

In that case why don't you buy the LG G6? It has the same 5.7 screen (with Dolby Vision) and its a much much smaller dimensions (a whole 1 centimeter smaller in height).
It will also probably going to be $100 cheaper.
If you want a dual camera OIS added to the mix you can always get the Huawei P10 plus with the kirin 960 (which is more powerful then SD the 821), and has 6GB of ram.
Not to mention that the above have a 3.5 mm jack.
I cancelled my pre order in the US today.
I am very disappointing that HTC could not bring a winning device this year. Honestly I would not pay more then $550 for it while the pre order was for $810 (plus tax).
The ultra does not have the boom sound speakers anymore. If they only chose an AMOLED screen (as they did with the pixel), and added the 3.5 jack, I could ignore the size of the phone and the price could be justified.
I will wait for a device that can give me the whole package, and I think that some of the new ones could give me that (have you seen the new Sony? )

The ultra does not have the boom sound speakers anymore. If they only chose an AMOLED screen (as they did with the pixel), and added the 3.5 jack, I could ignore the size of the phone and the price could be justified.
I will wait for a device that can give me the whole package, and I think that some of the new ones could give me that (have you seen the new Sony? )

As you surely noticed in my sig, I'm an HTC addict, I won't go for another brand. I love the Sense UI from back to the Desire HD.
Speaking of sound, I don't listen to anything aloud very often, but I listen to a lot of music ans what a lot of movies and tv shows: the HTC 10 is perfect in this respect, and the U Ultra should be even better
Look at the HTC support page, the U Ultra does have boomsound speakers!
The SD 821 will more than enough for what I'll do with it, as I don't play games on my phones.
OIS on the back camera is enough for me. I have OIS on the front one of my 10, I'm not really a selphie addict.
If HTC really disappear some time ahead, I do hope that the very last HTC I own will last as long as possible.
One last thought, you don't really like/love HTC, do you ?

I had a few HTC devices (starting the nexus one), but in the past couple of years I was going for the One Plus devices and tried a few Samsung ones.
In my mind the HTC UX and system responsiveness was always the best. I did not see a phone as smooth and the Pixel is an absolute gem (made by HTC).
The reason I stopped buying HTC is the screen size.
As far as the sense UI. I don't have about that. I don't use widgets and have a bought version of the Nova Launcher.
I owned the LG V20 (and gave it to my wife since she absolutely loved the photo quality). The second screen is a gimik and I just turned it off. I think I would have done the same with the Ultra.
Samsung phones are *crap* wrapped in an AMOLED + Amazing camera shell and I swore not to buy it anymore.
The $400 phones are great but after owning the note 7, I can say that I want a good camera phone. You cannot find a good camera at the OP3T or the AXON 7 even though they try (axon has a samsung sensor and the OP has a sony sensor).
I am a very heavy earphone user. I have them on all the time and I always buy new ones (cause I lose them everywhere) so a phone without a 3.5 jack means I have to adjust heavily to the fact that I need to buy an adapter or start buying $50+ Bluetooth sets (and I really don't want to do that).
That brings me to the G6. It has a smaller body (by 0.9 centimeters- which is a lot). A better LCD screen, IP rating and the camera of V20 (which is amazing but worse then the Ultra's).
It has a 3.5 Jack and it will be cheaper then the Ultra.
Dont get me wrong, I hate LG! My wife had the LG g3 and LG g4 for the past two years (before the V20) and those phones worked like a charm till the last day (with no case since she hates them).
But I still hated them- the bloatware is horrible, the UX is stupid and they are just unexciting.
I might try the P10 plus with the leica lenses.

Hi Howling Wolf
Something for you :
- my first impressions : http://www.forum-generationmobiles.net/t79157-info-htc-u-ultra-play
- test : http://www.frandroid.com/marques/412702_test-du-htc-u-ultra-un-double-ecran-ingenieux-et-des-performances-au-top#utm_source=forumfrandroid&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=related_via_topic
Sorry, it's in French.
I bought it last week in Germany (Saturn)., in black.
Thanks, I'm French
The test is not serious...
You confirm that the main screen is very bright (as always with HTC) !
I don't really care for the U Ultra back design, I'll put the clear case at once, the liquid color shouldn't be lessened too much and that'll be just fine.
Thanks for your impressions.
I may have to wait until April to buy it though
Mine is being delivered tomorrow from cpw, nice surprise. Was expecting it friday.
I got a notification from Vodafone for a sim switch today, hoping cpw will call for the pick up tomorrow

I'm living in Indonesia, got the phone from my supplier in Singapore(I have an online store). Selling it for around USD 675 at my store
I got it a exactly a week ago.
First impressions:
Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
Of course I got the blue sapphire one and it looks awesome, especially with lights reflecting off it. It gives shades and colour gradation like no other phones when bouncing off its curved back. Had people noticing my phone several times now.
This thing is smooth, very smooth
Love the LCD.
Have been a fan of LCD over amoled. It's sharp, colour saturation is good, images are lifelike. Also, sunlight readability have been great compared to htc 10.
Tried the v20 and the light bleed were awful from the second screen (inside a dark room, very low brightness) On the U Ultra it's far better.
Camera is AWESOME.
Had pixel XL for about two months before selling it. The price I had to get it on this part of the world was unreasonable (1075usd 128 xl). Had a hard time justifying that kind of money in my pocket. As I recall, this camera matches the pixel's easily and with manual control it is perfect. Will play more with the camera later.
Battery life is beyond expectations
I thought the battery would be very sucky considering 3000mah had to power qhd screen+2nd screen. Apparently it holds up pretty well. On all day Wifi it reaches almost 7 hours SOT. I'm testing mixed use today switching between WiFi and LTE (bad Lte connections here in Indonesia btw) as I go.
Speaker is similar to htc 10 if not better
Have not tried the USB C earphone I don't use earphones a lot. Which is why I don't really care the loss of 3.5mm headphone jack. I listen to music on my car via Bluetooth.
Size is perfect for me. I came from Huawei mate 9.
The included case scratch easily, I suspect the glass back scratch easier.
Too bad this phone doesn't create enough hype. Really have a hard time selling it on my store
A bit about me: I sell phones, and usually I tried every flagship I sold before I sell them. No brand fanboyism whatsoever.
Bottom line is this phone is really good, however I should've been released early December 2016 not today as all we've seen in the news are plethora of 2017 phones coming out with very slim bezels, new chipsets, dual cameras, waterproof, etc. I know that's not possible otherwise people would've had a hard time justifying buying pixel xl lol. Google would be outraged.
Any other stuff u guys would like to know?

Realistic options for a replacement to the Moto X Pure

So I am getting sick of the battery life of this device and charging twice a day just to get by... the QC helps but it isn't always a viable option for someone who is on the road/travels a lot. I am probably going to go back to my Moto G 2015 for the time being as I could get a full days use most of the time on a single charge and just selling my MXPE.
But now the question comes up as what to replace it with... Moto G 5th gen, Blu Pure XR, ZTE Axon 7 Mini, or ???
My requirements are simple, or so I think...
1) 4+ hours SOT, preferably 5+, in mixed signal environment of WiFi/LTE/3G and sometimes without the best signal strength (for reference, I currently get about 2.5 hours on MXPE)
2) 5.2"-5.7" screen with 1080p minimum resolution
3) Stock Android, "near" stock, or simple UI (no TouchWiz, EMUI, ZenUI, or other bloated UI) that allows easy use of replacement launcher
4) 64GB internal storage or 32GB internal+microSD
5) 3GB or more of RAM
6) Full AT&T network compatibility (GSM 850/1900 and LTE Band 2/4/5/12/17 and optionally 29/30)
7) Nougat or Marshmallow with a Nougat upgrade "guaranteed"
8) 3.5mm headphone jack
9) Dual band WiFi - 2.4 & 5Ghz
10) $300USD or less
Would be nice, but not essential...
1) Unlockable bootloader (implies root/custom recovery/ROM development community)
2) Front facing speakers
3) NFC
4) USB 3.0
Absolute no no's are Samsung, Asus, or Huawei/Honor devices.
What else fits these requirements that I am not considering?
I believe the one phone that comes to mind that would fit most of your requirements is the Axon. I took a break from the MXPE (when it flew off my roof and died a horrible death in a rain storm) and had the Axon 7 (normal size) for about a month. You will get NEAR 4 hours of SoT, a qhd screen, 5.5 inches, relatively light for metal body. Unlockable bootloader and decent dev for it, last I checked. Things that bothered me/ pissed me off were that DTTW was laggy and slow, the actual cell service seemed to be really bad, possibly because of the full metal body phone, and the biggest annoyance - no backlit capacitive buttons, so you were left sort of blind in the dark trying to hit buttons. There is also no way through the build.prop to enable the on-screen buttons to bypass the issue at night, last I checked.
LG V20 could be an option too since it has a bootloader unlock now, 3.5-4.5 hours of SoT. I think it has a bottom bezel speaker though, which is a little weird, and as always the LG software has complaints. The dev is good enough to get around that though.
I'm in the same boat as you though. I've been looking pretty hard to find a new phone and the V20 is the only one I am really considering right now.

Would love to... tell me where I can get a new OP3T for under $300... That one is a hard stop requirement.
@xgerryx Same for LG V20 and Axon 7 (which never goes on sale, although the Mini does often), the $300 price point is a big deal
This phone has been a little disappointing. It's good, but definitely not great. It's a night and day difference from the Galaxy S3 I was using, but I wish I had held out a little longer for the SD 820 phones instead of buying in 2015.
It sounds like you've already got a pretty inclusive list for phones that are sold in the US and meet your requirements.
I just checked swappa, and if you're willing to go used, the OnePlus 3 is starting to get down towards the price point you're looking for. It has the same size battery as the MXP, and between the more efficient SoC than this godawful 808/810 generation and an FHD AMOLED I'd think you should get better screen on time out of it. It's a OnePlus so it has loads of good development, so you'll have all kinds of kernel/rom/tweaking available to really squeeze every erg out of it.

If you happen to be SUPER interested in the V20, I have seen some go for like 310-320 on Swappa in good to mint condition. You gotta hound the seller though and keep track of it all damn day for when the price drops. Not an awesome experience but I'm waiting for the same thing myself.

I'm not really interested... TBH, my experience with non-Nexus LG Android devices has been... well... lets just say less then wonderful.
Although I would have to say that the LG enV from years ago probably ranks up there as my favorite phone of all time, back when you could actually get DAYS of usage out of a cell phone on a single charge. I remember I would charge it twice a week. lol

Yea I agree. After my terrible experience with the buggy LG G4, I'm very skeptical about going back again. At the same time I am running out of companies to try out! Haha. Gotta circle back eventually, especially on Verizon.

NEVER AGAIN!!! I refuse to drop $140 plus taxes and fees (realistically $160) for the service level I get now for $72 per month. Plus the limitations on devices, I would have to buy at least one new phone and/or go under contract. Nope, not happening. (Can you tell I have a grudge against Verizon, lol)
I would look around swappa for a OnePlus 3 or 3t it's worth it no bugs lag free and monthly updates it's already on nougat 7.1.1 and the beta builds they offer are great as well and development is great lots of greats ROMs and kernels and unlocking bootloader will not void warranty
TBH...I think you will have a hard time meeting all of your requirements right now. The market looks pretty dismal which is very unfortunate. I personally will hold out a little longer. I'm really looking hard at what Nokia/HMD are coming up with and hoping their roadmap for US devices includes a mid range device soon. So far their line up seems decent and if they are true to their word about expedient updates for Android, and they will sell devices with unlockable bootloaders at decent prices, I'll be sold.

Like @acejavelin stated, Samsung is not an option, and I agree with him. Yes they have great hardware for the most part, but a less powerful processor running vanilla, our near vanilla Android will run just as well considering the lack of heavy handed UX. I will admit the phone looks great hardware and looks wise, but I personally don't like the look and feel of Samsung TW.

Sammie's are to bloated... Every Samsung devices we have ever had has been problematic... Hope you enjoy yours though but I would never spend that kind of money on a phone.
I have a moto g5 plus as well, its pretty good. It's fast and smooth. Screen and camera are good too, but obviously not as good as the X style.
Yes mxpe battery sucks. I have to charge 2-3 times a day and am not even a heavy user. I know its more than your actual budget but better wait, save a bit more and probably the price will drop also and go for a OP 3T.
i know your problem man.. but why don't you wait for a nougat update?? why not? maybe they might fix up the battery drain issue!
there are barely very less phones which have dual front facing speakers.. market has got very saturated.. all look for flagship but they just don't think that having a good speakers is also a part of flagship project!
as per my personal opinion... this phone is just the best phone ive ever used (till 2015) but in upcoming era you will see more and more features
i will recommend you to wait and not hurry up to get a phone...
if you need a pure stock surely get nexus but just wait for new nexus phone.. maybe they might consider it as a flagship and the value might be cheap??
anyways if you're just asking for all the requirements my opinion (AXON 7) not just only for dual front facing speakers but also for the processor(sd 820),storage(64gb,6gb ram) expandable ovbio (256gb)
plot twist: has hybrid sim XD
but im legit that it'll be upgraded to android 'O'
but it cost around $350
think man.. public reviews are also good
it meets all the requirements but is as costly as mxpe

Nougat can't "fix" our battery issue... Radio and display panel are hardware issues and that's where 75% of all battery drain is. It isn't even issues, it's just how much power they use normally. The SD808's radios are terribly inefficient, and the display panel uses more power than some small towns. If you think Nougat is going to noticably improve active use time, your kidding yourself.
To be honest, I might just pull my old Nexus 5 out if the drawer and switch to it... The battery life can't be much worse.
The sound aspect is less important. FF speakers are nice, but as long as I can hear a YouTube video in an average room and turn the ringer up enough u don't care.
I bought the MXPE as an upgrade to my G 2015 and it was on sale for under $250, and for the most part it is, I just didn't realize how bad the battery was, it is easily half of my G.
I got Axon 7 after X and can't be happier. I've had the A7 since August. Has the front speakers i wanted, nice beautiful Samsung screen. Battery is definitely better then X. Software was buggy at the beginning but they have improved it a lot. Axon 7 has been getting a lot of updates, doesn't mean it'll continue, we were the 1st ones to receive 7.0 with the exception of Google devices, and we are the only ones so far (afaik) to receive 7.1.1 with also the exception of Google devices.
It has its flaws but i love the phone. For the money you can't beat it. It's on sale now on newegg for $330.

Should I buy one now

Hi All,
I was wondering what you guys think of the phone now 8 months down the line. I am getting this at a good price around £650 for a good condition used phone on ebay. I was wondering if you guys think most of its problems have been fixed by now.
Just to give you a background, I currently have a note 9 and frankly I am very happy with this phone but it is old now and I am itching to upgrade to something newer, primarily for the cameras and 120hz refresh rate. I did buy the S21 ultra on pre-order but was really disappointed with the camera performance as I found the images my exynos variant produced to be very soft and noisy and not as sharp/clear as my note 9 and overall the phone felt like a big compromise (no s-pen, no sd card, no headphone jack) after paying £1300, so I sent it back. The camera and screen are the primary reasons for me to upgrade and I expect at least decent battery life (maybe 6-7 hours SOT with youtube abd browsing). I do use the S-Pen every now and then and think it would be a good to have. I know the note 20 ultra doesnt support WQHD+ and 120hz at the same time but at the price im getting it at i think this is a compromise i am willing to make since i mostly use my phone at FHD+ anyway and I can barely tell the difference.
I know there was talk about the exynos variant being bad when compared to the SD 865+ version but frankly I am not a gamer and dont need my phone to be ultra powerful. But what i would like to know from you guys is whether the software updates over the past 8 months have fixed most of the issues with battery life and camera performance. Those of you coming from the s10 range or the note 10+ / Note 9 etc. How would you say the camera is on the Note 20 U? Do you guys think its a good buy now? Or should I just give it a miss and hang on to the note 9 till they stop the security patches? Any advise is appreciated.
I have a mate who upgraded from the Note 9 to the Note 20 Ultra. He was VERY impressed with the differences...
He has the Exynos variant but when there is no other phones to compare but what you already have he's happy...
It all comes down to you, go to a store, play with a demo version and make up your mind.
I've upgraded from S10e Exynos with 4,5 screen on time maximum and terrible idle battery drain to Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon. First week was thinking to give it back because it was too big for me and those rounded edges always made me typos. Then I've get used to it, set the keyboard paddings from edges and finally bought nice case (I never used any cases before) and now I'm totally happy with it. I as far as I've read it's almost impossible to get 7-8 screen on time on Exynos variant. I got around 7 on my Snapdragon version but never tested it with gaming so I can not tell yet how good the battery is. I can tell that Qualcomm modem is much better in sense of keeping good connection and speed and very good keeping battery in idle state. Considering the camera - it's much better that in my old S10e ofcourse but I don't use it often so can't say I care about it much. What I love about my new Note 20 ultra Snapdragon is I've rooted it to tweak some small things here and there and now totally feel it's mine. I've rooted my past phones around 5 years ago last time.
Not sure if anything I said will help you but if you have any questions I would be glad to answer.
Thanks guys really useful. As mentioned I don't really need a new phone as my current phone does pretty much what I need it to. But I am itching to upgrade and I don't want to end up being stuck with something that I feel is not as good as my current phone. I currently average 4-5 hours screen on time on my 2 year old note 9 which I think is good for an old phone so hoping to get more. The S21U was good battery wise I got 7 hours SOT with 10% remaining. But the cameras were a let down for the price. I might just wait a couple of months and pick one used if they fix the camera with software updates as the price difference doesn't seem that much like a barely used S21U is going for around 850 on ebay so might be worth the extra 200 vs the note 20 ultra. Especially because I heard a lot of bad things about the n20u battery in particular.
Hi, @eldrid
I upgraded (downgraded considering the cost/storage, lol) from the Note9 (512GB) to the Note20 Ultra (128GB) with Android 11/One UI 3.1.
Have you considered replacing the battery in your Note9? Maybe have the battery replaced and purchase the N20U?
I don't use the camera much, but hopefully one of the forum members will give you some feedback on the N9 vs N20U cameras.
I can hear the Note20 Ultra camera *rattle* but I think this is normal??
If you purchase the N20, you may not want to update the phone to Android 11 (scoped storage, bugs galore, etc...).
I enjoy using the N9 more than the N20U because of the OS and the apps function without issue.
I detest Android 11, ahem, and think it contributes to my attitude of the N20U. N9 is the Beast!
I haven't had note 9 earlier but for me the note 20 ultra is perfect.
We get 1080p with 120hz (sure only 1080p but battery friendly and do you even notice higher res on regular basis?)
Sdcard slot, perfect for pictures, movies, big files and so on, also very easy to swap. (cloud exist but what about vacation or if u got limited data)
Very good cameras, still one of the best out there.
Very good performance with snapdragon 865+, even the exynos one is good. Recent updates have made it better than release version.
S-pen in a slot, no ugly weird case and all functions works perfectly.
The design is also very modern and future proof, I mean the front is almost all display.
People even speculate that this could be the last note ever, so if I were u, I would really consider note 20u if u liked your note 9 and want something better.
I've had my Note 20 Ultra Exynos version since launch, and it's a lot better now than it was when it first came out in both battery life & performance, I also don't game on phone's so it's been more than fine for me.
The camera has also been on point for me as well I've not been disappointed with any pictures or videos I've taken with it.
For 650 quid i think it's well worth it for what you get.
Thanks a ton guys for the honest advice. I finally picked an almost new one for £650 on ebay. They offer a 30 day return so fingers crossed i hope it works out. I won't be selling my note 9 just yet so I will have some time to compare side by side and see what it's like. I am sure it's an upgrade in many regards. But the three key things for me are 1)screen and I'm sure that's great I don't use wqhd and will be perfectly happy with the adaptive 1080 120hz. 2)The cameras... This is one area I am not sure how it will be... This is a very subjective area but I like my images to be sharp and I noticed on the S21U the images were soft and fuzzy not crisp like on the note 9. And 3) is battery life... I still get around 5 hours from the note 9 which is great so I hope to get at least that much. Will keep you guys posted on how it goes over the next few days. I feel like @650 there won't be much to complain about. I was really upset with the s21 ultra as I had paid full price for it and it (£1300) and it felt like a downgrade. Seems like the more modern Samsung phones while powerful are compromising on the basics and are not what they used to be 2 years ago.
Finally got the note20u and frankly I am quite happy with it. I am getting pretty good SOT and plus i used Bluetooth headphones for at least an hour. Considering that I think the battery life is good. Also the camera software seems to be ironed out and the image sharpness is much better than the current image quality on the S21U 1st pic is from note 20u and 2nd from s21u. Overall I think it was a good buy. I would never recommend anyone buying a Samsung phone at launch as the software is very unpolished and you pay a huge amount for an unfinished product. Comparing the experience i have with this nearly new note 20u for 650 is great compared to the ****ty experience the s21u offers for £1200 plus no sd card support or charger in the box. Very good value overall at £650
I upgraded from my still pristine Note 9 and found it a very worthy successor. From the enhanced Dex and S-pen features to the improved cameras, the Note 20 Ultra has provided me with a great user experience. Given Samsung's quest for becoming more -like and shedding features left and right, the Note 20 Ultra is the closest to what the Note line once was: the no holds barred, everything but the kitchen sink, no compromises, Note. I don't know if there is a Note 21 Ultra in the works and if there is it will probably include less features than the Note 20 Ultra offers.

Absolutely agree. Probably why i was finding it hard to part with my note 9 as well. What a great 0 compromise device. I really hate how Samsung were originally the anti apple and a premium alternative for those that didn't want to chain themselves to apple. But now they're becoming more like apple taking away our choice.
Rumours are that there will be a watered down fan edition only this year and that the s-pen toting phone is going to be the fold from now on. If its true its a poor farewell to the note. I say they should bring back the headphone jack, sd card and pack the box with goodies. Make the whole experience of buying a premium flagship feel premium again.

The 10+ was the last Note before Q. After Q things started going south and 11 is even worse.
Between Android and Samsung's "improvements" it's been a dismal year.
Everything's coming up psuedo Apples... and I mean that in the most derogatory way.
As for the Fold series it has been a self made disaster for Samsung. Overpriced and unreliable.
Samsung, you do know the definition of insanity don't you? Apparently not.
Late to the party here but I'm happy with my N20 Ultra 5G Snapdragon soc I imported from Hong Kong.
I wouldn't of been keen to buy a used phone from ebay due to the amount that get imei locked a few weeks / months after receiving it.

How can you avoid that from happening 100%?
Is it that common?

It's something I've come across way too often throughout the years on forums.
A person sells a phone on ebay and then fraudulently claims it lost or stolen.
Auction Sites need to tighten up and introduce even more protection for the buyer as well as the seller.

Damn didn't know that happens. I got mine from a business seller with 100% ratings so looks like hes been at it for a while with no issues. He claims the phones are customer returns from the official Samsung store and would barely have any usage if at all. And everything looked the part it seemed brand spanking new, scratchless and even no signs wear or dust in the usb c port. Also he had a whole batch of 7-8 to sell so everything sounded legit. Let's hope everything works out well.
On a separate note. I thought id use the phone without a screen protector for a few days while the tempered glass one I ordered arrives and so removed the factory one. After a day or so i have already noticed a couple of micro scratches on the screen visible at certain angles. This is with careful use at home. I feel like this whole gorilla glass thing is just market hype.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The only reason someone would do that is to be malicious and most people are not. I doubt the seller has a personal vendetta against you. He got his money and will move on.
I have had the N20U since release and have no issues and at this point is a good as it gets functionally.
