[App Search] Looking for an app to control the audio output channel per app - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone. I´m currently trying to find an app that allows me to control where audio from certain apps is playing.
Example: I want certain apps (i.e. Spotify) to play through a bluetooth connected device and other apps to use the built-in speaker
Little bit of backgroud: I installed a Android box into my car which is connected via Bluetooth to my In-Car Entertainment system to play music etc on. In addition, on that Android box I do have a speed cam ("camsam", "Blitzer") app running, but in case I´m not playing music from that Android box (i.e. when I´m listening to FM radio) I won´t be able to hear the speed cam alters. As a solution I would like to force play the Speed cam app through the Android box speaker (which I would be able to hear no matter what other audio I´m listing to) and other apps such as spotify through Bluetooth.
I tried to achieve this via Tasker or other automation apps but the If->Then based approach doesn´t seem to lead me anywhere.
P.S. The Android Box is running 7.1.2, Root is available.
Any idea is appreciated!

How does bluetooth and stream work, do you use a app??
Have you had a look at iMediashare in the market? I use it to stream from my Dinc to my WDTV LIVE. Only done music and images, so can't speak as to whether it does video effectively or not.
Sent from my Dinc using XDA App
Digging up this old thread. Did you find a solution for it?
iMediashare is limited by content it can read. ie. cant play Spotify or Google Music wich would be my main purpose of this.
Anyone know of an app that would work?

As far a i can see, this has the same limitations as iMediashare that i mentioned earlier. It cant play from Spotify/Google Music.
Does anyone know if this is even possible on Android? I am considering trying to develop an app to do this myself as i really miss this possibility both on my tablet and phone.
I second that request
I also really need this feature, What airfoils does for windows, i need on my 3.2 tablet and 4.0 phone.
the ability to grab sound from any program running, and sent it to any DLNA compatibly unit on the network. Airport express, windows media player and so on.
Like Mixy says, all the programs that i have found a limited to share the content that they can play.
A Android Airfoil remote, would do the trick in my case. So that my windows server, running XBMC was the source of the sound, if i only could remote turn on Airfoil speakers from my phone.
I would recommend all interested to send a mail to Rogue Amoeba (dev of Airfoil), saying you are interested in this app. I've done so, but showing increased interest would be good.
I'm interested too ! Looking for something like the sonos solution but using a wifi network connected device and operating through something like airfoil for android. Any reply from Rogue Amoeba ?
I just sent Rogue Amoeba a message, will let everyone know there response.
This is what i got the last time i mailed them:
Hi Fredrick, As far as sending audio FROM Android out, it's unlikely we'll be doing that (though we'll see). We do hope to introduce an Airfoil Speakers (the receiving end) client for Android - we'll see what happens in the future.

EDIT:
I should also add that I am playing with the idea of making something like this myself. I dug around in the Android SDK and could not find anything to get audio-stream from other apps. This is due to security of apps and their content. Spotify does not want their stream to be able to be recorded etc.
I'm no dev, so my research is slow, but from what i can tell this app would require root, and possibly also injection of code into the ALSA library used by Android.
I also received a response:
Thanks for getting in touch with us. Currently, our mobile development plans are only to improve upon Airfoil Speakers Touch for iOS devices. However, we're evaluating interest in extending Airfoil Speakers to other platforms, so this sort of feedback definitely helps. So, stay tuned for updates from us and do let us know if you've got any other questions or issues.
Mixy your finding makes sens. Maybe find a equalizers program, they also must grab the sound from playing apps, right ?
But then a again, what i really need is the ability to toggle playing sound unit.
I wrote this trough Rogue Amoeba support page.

I like to toggle speakers playing on a windows airfoil from my android.
and second i like a airfoil grabber for android, so that all sound are transmitted.
So the windows server can see that transmit and you can from your android unit, control the windows server and on that server's airfoil speakers press receive from android unit.

What about emulating a Bluetooth speaker ?
Still protected by SDK limits ?
All sounds are passed through to the speaker, can it be grabbed here and sent to a dnla unit ?

This is the answer from Rogue Amoeba, disappointing answer. So i guess its time to look for another program, that does what airfoil does but + android support.
Hi there,
At this time, we have no plans for Android versions of any of our software, but we'll see what happens.

Hi guys, I'm very interested too with an app that allows you to send Spotify to an Airplay receiver ... I heard about a plugin for Doubletwist that allows you to stream what you're listenning with this player to Airplay ... So maybe you could check for this to allow streaming every audio programs that are played ? I'm not a dev so ...
Good luck if you try to make an app by yourself, I really hope it'll be working and I would be the first owner !
Its true that you can play mp3 files to an airplay reciever, but that is because the program "owns" the music.
In the case of Spotify, the Spotify app owns the music, and thus it would have to hijack the audio-stream

[Q] Effective Airplay implementation for Android

I'm looking to set-up a home audio streaming solution using Airplay, and I'd like to use some of my Android devices as receivers. The problem is, any apps I've tried (Android HiFi, Airbubble, etc.) have a delay on them. I'd like my music to be synchronized across various devices, but I can't seem to get it working. Are there any apps that can stream in-sync? Or do i need to give up and just use Apple devices?

[Q] voice controlled audio playback

Hello I was hoping someone here could help me with a issue I am having.
I currently use a few cheap android phones as squeezebox clients to have audio throughout my house and I use my tablet to control what plays where. Recently the tablet I used went belly up and had no way to control my audio clients. Got me thinking on alternative ways to control the music that plays in my house.
I would like to have voice control over my music that plays. It doesn't have to sync or any other features of lms. No zone control or anything just simply play the song I select in the room the phone is in. I installed google now and open mic+ so my phones are always listening however I can not find any way to just say "computer play american idiot" or something to that nature. My music is all stored on my raspi so the app has to be able to communicate with my storage server. I know google has a music app, but i store my music offline and I don't want to have to upload it to every phone for local playback. Jumping through hoops for the setup isn't a issue however my significant other wants it to be as painless as using the tablet was to select what to play.
I've heard Yatse has voice control however it communicates with googles servers I believe for voice support. This would be a issue as I keep my various media on one network and my internet on a different WiFi network. All phones run at least jelly bean as well.
Any suggestions would be mightily appreciated!

[Android MK809IV 2G/8GB HDMI Stick] Google Voice Not Working [RESOLVED!]

Hello everyone, I have recently purchased a MK809IV Android 4.4.2 HDMI Stick via ebay. It works perfectly for streaming 720P Netflix, youtube and web browsing; EXCEPT for voice input (via Bluetooth headset with Microphone). I was hoping to minimize my dependence on a keyboard by using Google Voice whenever possible. However; this particular device is not detecting any audio input device. As a result, google voice is not launching/running; it just closes a few seconds after I run it. This is a real shame as I was hoping to browse the web or check my e-mail using google voice while gaming on my PC...
I have attached images to provide more information regarding this particular Android Stick and my issue. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I apologize in advance for posting links in this thread; however, I feel that it's more inappropriate to make 10 random posts that won't contribute or help anyone to meet the requirements for said links. I just want to provide as much information as possible to the community regarding this issue. I feel that these Android HDMI sticks has exceptional potential for their small price tag.

Update Edit: After further testing; I found out that my Kinovo Bluetooth headset (with mic) requires a driver that automatically downloads on my phone, my friend's phone and also my cheapo android tablet. However, the driver is not detected/downloading on this HDMI Stick. I have since found a Plug and Play USB Audio adapter that works with my HDMI stick. HOWEVER; even though the audio INPUT device IS detected and I was able to make audio recordings, Google Voice is still not working; every time I run/launch the app, it closes almost INSTANTLY.

Update 2.0 : Ok, I've got this ironed out and it's all working perfectly now! I came across the link below on Google's website
support.google.com/websearch/answer/6031948?hl=en
Which states the following requirements:
Google app version 3.5+
Android 4.4+ (KitKat)
Voice & Audio Activity setting turned on
Since I met the 2nd and 3rd requirement, I tried updating Google App via the play store; google voice is now working and running without a hitch! This device is now perfect for my intended applications!
My current setup is as follows if anyone is interested!
Currently running a triple monitor setup with the third monitor on the right connected to the Android Stick and my PC. (from left to right: 22" Portrait Mode, 24" BenQ 144Hz Landscape and 24" Landscape). When I'm gaming, I switch from my DVI (PC) output to HDMI (Android Stick); this allows me to check my e-mail, google for information, play music, watch youtube guides, etc). Also, the USB Plug n play audio adapter I linked earlier; has a mute switch for the Mic. This maximizes the usability for my devices.
I can provide photos of my setup upon request. Thanks for reading!

An app for remotely accessing music in an android device from another.

I have a Nougat 7.1 android head unit in my car and also a nougat 7.1 android device (Moto Z). I can normally play any songs on my device from my head unit with the default application that comes with the it. I can also use any bt player available to do the same. However, I'd like to do one thing that these players do not enable, which is to remotely list the songs available in my device and choose the one I want to play from my head unit.
All I can do is to play, stop, play next or play the previous song. I want to actually list my songs, sort them by genre, album, artist, etc, and choose which one I want to play in my head unit. It is much more comfortable to it in the head unit than to use my phone while driving to change songs. I think if it has anything to do with AVRCP version supported.
I wonder if there is an app that enables me to do just that, either via bluetooth or wi-fi (tethering). I suppose one could build an app for that by implementing a more flexible protocol over BT or even the wifi network. I am just wondering if it does not exist already.
