I have a LG G3 D850 which is outside of US unlocked and works on local carriers however the problem is I only have 2G edge connectivity for mobile data. I have read the thread but in my case there is a difference i.e., I am able to receive 3G/4G connectivity on only one of the local carriers that operates on LTE Band 5.
According to LG G3 D850 specifications it supports:
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - D850
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 17(700), 29(700) - D850AT&T states that it uses Band 1,3 and 7 as roaming bands.
Could the problem be that in my case these two Bands 1 and 3 are locked and thus I cannot get 3G and 4G connectivity for all my carriers. In that case should I still flash a qcn file or should I proceed to unlock these bands first. I can tell you that I definitely see these two bands in the phone's service menu and can select them successfully (which kind of indicates the bands are unlocked but I am not sure).
I am really confused on how to proceed. Could someone kindly help me out here.
Best Regards

Sorry if this is stupid question but I'm new to this whole band thing. I've tried researching but no answers.

I'm not sure if all UMTS 1700 is always AWS? I'm not sure if the US GSM model is the same as canadian model, but it seems to be. Fido doesn't list UMTS but I'm assuming it is since thats the only specs provided on the motorola site. If someone could explain or just let me know if it will work on WIND that would be great.
Thanks
Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: HSPA is a superset of UMTS (you may also see WCDMA, not to be confused with CDMA, which is for our purposes identical). Band 4, a.k.a AWS or UMTS 1700 is a bit unusual in that traffic from the phone to the tower is on 1700 MHz (uplink), but on 2100 MHz from the tower to the phone/user equipment (downlink).
There are three models sold in Canada: XT1032 ("Global" HSPA model) XT1034 ("US" HSPA model, AWS, sold by Wind and Videotron) and XT1040 (LTE model, the US one is the XT1045, what actual differences there are remain to be seen)
Were either of you able to confirm?
I'm on the same boat, conteplating buying the 4G LTE version from FIDO to use on Wind.
Thanks in advance!
Yes to wind
From everything i read it will work on wind as the the only moto g lte with lte 2600 is the same one that has 1700 3g band, Have either of you guys rooted and if so how and where did you find directions. Ill unlock tomorrow am and then let you guys know.
Thanks guys!
I've contacted wind tech support for an official confirmation.
As Darkshado mentioned, the only 4G LTE model listed on Motorola.ca is the US GSM 4G LTE model with the following specs:
Networks - Moto G with 4G LTE
US GSM Model:
4G LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 17 (1900, 1700, 850, 700 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
Everything points to this being able to run on Wind - 1700 and 2100 MHz. It'll be cool if it can..
gthompson75 - by rooting, i suppose you mean a network unlock, right? I dont think you need to "root" to get it working on Wind
wind works
OK I unlocked my Fido moto g LTE today. My model is xt1040, once unlocked no problem on wind. Took a while to get a signal but worked none the less. Hope this helps you guys.
yup, so you're in the same situation as me, i went to 2 different fido stores and no one has it in stock
went online to order it the past few days, error in the last step
call the number and order it over the phone and save your time
hopefully i will be getting the phone soon
i actually found a store called wirelesswave and they had the moto g lte, i took a look at the box, it was the xt1040 (i was expecting the xt1045 just from reading around the subforums), the front of the box does not advertise the 4g/lte at all, it's in small print on the back of the box
I can also confirm it works. Thanks for the help guys.
where did you unlock it from and how much did it cost

hey i had a quick question, where did you get it unlocked from and how much did it cost.
if i could get a website.
I have the same problem : I can't find any website to unlock it for sure.
If those who already have unlocked their XT1040 could reply, it would be fantastic.
Thanks.

Don't believe so. In Canada, phones which work on Bell, Rogers, Telus networks will not work on neither Wind or Mobilicity networks, even though Wind mobile phone have full functionality on Mobilicity and vice versa, after unlocking, of course. In my experience, however, the unlocked Wind/ Mobilicity phone does work on the other networks, you wont get 3G or LTE data connection though, only 2G.
@chichibud31: Dude.... Did you read the thread? Multiple posts from users in the field confirming it works.
The whole "Robellus phones don't work on Wind/Mobilicity/Vidéotron and vice versa" is mostly obsolete. (Caveat emptor, but usually the worst case scenario is that you'll have to play with QPST.)
There was some truth to it back when the new entrants launched their networks and penta-band HSPA SoCs were not common. But even back then you had devices like the Telus Galaxy S 2 X that worked on AWS HSPA because it was the same model as what T-Mobile USA sold.
I've been using a Mobilicity T889V on Virgin Mobile then Koodo for about two years. DC-HSPA worked out of the box and I got LTE working as well. Activating AWS HSPA on the Rogers/Bell/Telus variant is easy.
It's been said before, the non-LTE XT1032 won't work with AWS carriers; out of the box at least, it remains to be seen if it could be modded.
That's actually a non-advertised feature of the LTE Moto G versus it's HSPA-only siblings: it can roam pretty much worldwide on 3G.
As the topic states, is there any way to use the Nexus 5 (D821) on the Sprint Network in the US?
I had a broken phone so I bought this nexus 5 thinking that regardless of the difference between the two, the radio should still be compatible with it since it is supposed to be a world phone. I just recently realized that the radios are different (apparently the D821 isn't allowed to use CDMA bands).
I know there is the Nexus Field Test APK, but I don't think that would enable those CDMA bands.
I won't be back in the states for another three months, and at that point, my service contract would end with Sprint, so I could either buy a new phone, or go to another carrier (maybe T-mobile, or any pre-paid provider) and shop around.
But, as for my question, is there any way to get the D821 to use the Sprint Network?
See below.

GSM networks are the exact same on either device
Some NA carriers use CDMA instead of GSM for 2G. A D821 won't be able to get 2G from those NA carriers that use CDMA, a D820 will get 2G anywhere in the world on either GSM or CDMA.
D820's extra band 19 on WCDMA is pretty much negligible
Some LTE bands are shared, but most are different. If you're lucky/pre-searched before choosing a carrier, you can get a D820 to work elsewhere/D821 to work in NA on LTE if the carrier happens to use one of the LTE bands that are shared between the D820 and D821.
D820:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
D821:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
Also, it has been proven possible to enable LTE band 3 & 8 on the D820, as well as band 2 & 4 on the D821 with modifications, which could make your D820 work on more non-NA carriers, and your D821 work on more NA carriers. So there is no software enabled modification that I can use that will enable the CDMA bands (not the LTE bands) to be used on a D821?
I know of that forum link at the bottom of the post, but, as far as I know, CDMA is required before the use of LTE on Sprint.

The D821 lacks CDMA support completely.
As far as I know, Sprint uses bands 25, 26 and 41 for LTE so the D821 has no way to get LTE either.
Hi all, I'm considering buying an unlocked GSM Moto G 3rd Gen, and I am trying to figure out how it will work outside the US with other network operators. The 2 areas I am interested in are Hong Kong and Ecuador.
The network specs for the Moto G 3rd Gen are:
Code:
Technology GSM / CDMA / HSPA / LTE
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
CDMA 800 / 1900 - XT1548
3G bands HSDPA 900 / 2100 - XT1541
HSDPA 850 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100 - XT1540
HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 - XT1548
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800) - XT1541
LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 17(700) - XT1540
LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 12(700), 17(700), 25(1900), 26(850), 41(2500) - XT1548
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE Cat4 150/50 Mbps
GPRS Yes
EDGE Yes
GSM information from: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
China, Hong Kong (SAR):
Code:
900 1800
3G 2100 CSL Ltd; 3G 2100 HKT; 3G 900/2100 Hutchison; 3G 2100 SmarTone;
4G LTE HKT 1800/2600Mhz; 4G LTE Hutchison 1800/2600Mhz; 4G LTE SmarTone 1800Mhz;
Ecuador:
Code:
1900 850
3G 850 Claro; 3G 2100 MOVISTAR;
4G LTE CNT Mobile 1700Mhz;
My conclusion from the data above is:
Voice/SMS/2G Data - Supported in both HK and Ecuador because the Moto G supports all 850, 900, 1800, and 1900
3G Data - Supported in both HK and Ecuador on all carriers since all frequencies for the carriers are present in the phone specs for 3G
4G LTE - Supported in both HK and Ecuador on all carriers because all frequencies listed by the carriers are present in the 4G LTE list
Could someone eyeball these specs and let me know if I'm drawing the correct conclusions or if I'm actually misunderstanding how the bands work?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Edit: I was double checking the bands listed on gsmarena, which claims both Hong Kong and Ecuador have UMTS 3G bands. The Moto G specs say HSDPA for all the 3G bands. Does the phone need to have UMTS listed for it to work or are they compatible for 3G?
I am a newbie here so please advise if this in the wrong place or outside the rules of site.
I have a zenfone 3 ultra international edition and I love it. On AT&T it only works on band 5. I knew that when I bought it.
However I am willing to pay US 500 for someone to post a proven and effective workaround or unlock of all the bands. First person to post a working and validated solution by at least 2 other users in US will get the prize.
Thank you
PS a
nd I have read most of the posts about the unlock that goes away upon reboot
Agreed. Same need here. I'll add another $500 to the bounty. $1k between us to the one who finds how to unlock all 4g us lte bands
hmm sorry cant help but i was just researching about this phone. weird to see this thread (yes im aware now its all because of AT&T) but checking the spec, this phone has LOTS of frequencies already, compare with xiaomi etc. in australia this phone cover ALL telco providers. are we talking about ZU680KL model?
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 / 800
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 26(850), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)
Here what i see for ATT in USA
"As of January 1, 2017, AT&T uses a GSM based network operating on the following frequencies/bands:
3G WCDMA/UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+ - 850/1900MHz Bands 2 & 5 (minimum requirement for nationwide service)
4G LTE –700/850/1900/1700/2100/2300MHz Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17, 29, 30, 40, 66."
I can only get occasional band 5. I have called ATT and added the IMEI and that only made it worse.
The prize is for unlocking the LTE bands that seems possible in Qualcomm based phones , even the ones not officially approved by ASUS for use in US.
I will chip in an additional $250 to the jackpot
Hello everyone.
Please, I'm searching online for this for days now and can't find anything useful for our Note 3. My carrier uses 700 MHz for lte here in my country and for urban areas it's a must have because of it's enhanced penetration.
So, my question is if the Snapdragon 660 does support this frequency on the hardware level and it's locked just by software or there's no way to enable this ever? And if it's possible, someone knows how to unlock this band specifically? Flash a custom modem or anything? I'm running miui 9.6.2.0 rooted.
And since I'm already here... I can't change permanently the settings in Phone Info (menu *#*#4636#*#*), the preferred network type always go back to LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS and I can't enable permanently Volte Provisioning either. It always go back to off.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

These are the bands supported by the phone:
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 — SIM 1 & SIM 2 CDMA 800
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
B20 (800Mhz) is not supported and is not possible to unlock it.
B28 (700Mhz) is not supported and is not possible to unlock it.

First: if your carrirer doens't support Volte tecnology
Second: if your carrier support Volte then is also necessary that the firmware of the your phone is compatible specifically with this carrier.
If not these conditions then is normal your behaviour
