Welcome to the xda-developers Forum!
First, the following area of the forum is specific to your device and the best place to start.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon
Your device cannot have its Bootloader Unlocked and, since this is the case, you can't change the device from Verizon to T-Mobile.
The only option is to see if MetroPCS has a Bring Your Own Phone (aka BYOP) Program that accommodates a Verizon Device.
You can still Root and install a TouchWiz (aka TW) ROM (this is the Stock Firmware that's a bit Customized and Debloated), this can still be accomplished in various ways depending on what your trying to use for the TW Firmware.
The following isn't the only options but, a few of the more popular ones that others, in this same circumstance as you, chooses to go with.

If you have any further questions, just post it within the appropriate areas above.
This is the best guidance I can provide you with and I wish you the best of luck!

Good morning everyone. I have tried looking through both these forums as well as a google search and can't seem to find an answer.
So my phone is rooted/s off custom Rom etc. My phone originally was a vzw phone used with Verizon as my service provider. I've since switched carriers and am using my phone with cricket being my service provider. Everything works, and works ok. I've been running a venom Rom and truly do love the Rom. But with lollipop being out there, it is time to upgrade. my phone says I'm running 4.4.2. Everything I've read seems that I have to upgrade my firmware as well, which is based off of the build number if I'm correct in what I read. my question I guess is do I continue to use Verizon based roms etc or do I use any variant of it. I guess I'm just seeking some what of a direction to head in. I apologize in advance if it's a stupid question. I've attached a copy of my build number in case that helps. Thank you so much, not only for your time, but any help available. Have a great day everyone

You need to flash Verizon fimware and use Verizon based roms.

Hi, not sure if this has been posted before or if I have posted in the wrong section so apologies if I may have.
Okay so I rooted my s8+ a few months ago and I decided yesterday that I want to unroot so I flashed a stock firmware. I found on updato, the version which I believed would be mine (SM-G955F, XEU version) as I purchased my s8+ in the UK unlocked. Anyway it all flashed fine but my device recognises the firmware as official but many apps (natwest, barclaycard, android pay Samsung pay) still say that it is rooted, unlocked bootloader etc. I disabled OEM but there is still no effect. Is there a way I can make my device recognise itself as genuine and not rooted etc without having to actually root it as some apps still do not work after rooting with magisk and twrp even though android pay does? Also now there are apps which I can not download from the app store such as netflix. PLEASE HELLP!! (I know I can download the apks but I want my phone to be as it was again) Its driving me insane, I just want everything back to normal as if I just purchased my s8+ brand new and have no modifications. (this is the last time I'm rooting a phone)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IF YOU HAVE A SOLUTION!!

So my friend bought a second-hand phone and has tried to reset it. It's a HTC Desire 520 and he's told me it's fine to do whatever I need to do to it to get it working again. I was thinking of trying to flash it but it seems like to do that I need to set up the phone first. If you guys could help that would be great, I don't really have much experience with android (have never flashed or rooted a device before) but have plenty of experience with Linux, so hopefully some of that should carry over.
I understand if this post gets shut down. Thanks for any help in advance.

I had originally signed up with Telus and purchased a Galaxy S8. I recently switched from Telus to Bell bringing my S8 with me. So now that my S8 has the Telus branding and customization, will I still get software updates from Bell (security patches, O/S updates).
Or, should I re-flash my phone with the Bell branded imaged for the Galaxy S8? Do I need to root if I do this?

I don't have a GS8 myself but, I don't believe that you can just simply flash another carriers Firmware.
Regarding your receiving OTA updates, you should be able to still receive them but, just in case you don't, you can always keep an eye on them yourself and manually update the firmware via USB from your device to the PC using the ODIN software.
The following link is to the GS8 Firmware for Telus.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/Sm-G950W/TLS/
If you look at any of the Firmware selections on the above link, it'll provide you with 2 ways for updating your firmware.
For example... If you go to the following, most recent, Firmware link...
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950W/TLS/download/G950WVLU5CSC1/264541/
... you'll see "Instructions (5 files)" and "Instructions (1 file)" that outlines what is needed to be done.
The preferred method is typically the "Instructions (1 file)" method. The other one is typically for when you have issues with the 1 file method.
You can also locate various helpful information on the following area of the forum that's specific to your device and variants.

Hi guys!
I'll start this as I do many posts...but apologies if this is in the wrong place or if the questions have already been answered....
Been a while since my last post but I am a long time member and still in the phone game. Over the years I've had to focus on other areas of my life as time has gone by but I still find time to tinker on occasion. If there is a thread that adequately answers these questions please link it in the response. But again, so far, I have not been able to find the answers I need. I am about to install SafeStrape on the device anyway but thought I would throw out a line in hopes of getting a bite.
With that said, I have scoured the forums looking for a definite answer. From what I can gather it appears that if you have the 4.4.2 OTA update that you cannot unlock your bootloader....ever.
Is this the truth?
Can I downgrade to an earlier FW such as 4.1.1, etc?
If so, can I then use SafeStrape or will I even need to?
The reasons behind these questions is to determine if I will be able to root this beast or not? I am unsure what the original FW was on the device or if it came with 4.4.2 on it. I mention this as I cannot remember if you can downgrade if your device never had the older version of the FW you wish to downgrade to on it sometime in the past. Can someone verify if this is true as well please?
Thanks in advance all!!

It's impossible to downgrade any of the firmware versions for the d2vzw device. The Knox within the devices bootloader will prevent this from ever happening.
If any attempts are made to do this, you will take the chance at Soft/Hard Bricking your device (or even worse).
The versions "at & below" Android v4.3.0 AND the Firmware version "I535VZWCML1" CAN be unlocked.
Any versions "at & above" Android v4.3.0 AND the Firmware version "I535VZWCNC1" CANNOT be unlocked.
SafeStrap = NOT a Custom Recovery. It's only designed/themed to LOOK like TWRP because of its familiar look and such.
TWRP = Custom Recovery. This replaces the stock recovery.
I hope that I had clarified this okay via text...
Good Luck!

Thank you my friend!!
Ibuprophen,
Thank you for the info... It has been a long time since I have done anything with an S3, particularly a VZW S3. Btw, I've used a lot of the times you have hosted so thanks for those too.
Before I posted my thread I flashed a semi stock f/w with SU added. But the device went into the "Verizon has detected non approved software on this device, blah, blah, blah.".
I was able to flash the appropriate stock FW via Odin and got out of the aforementioned loop.
But anyway, you answered my questions brother . I appreciate your time and effort.
Have a good day!!!
Regards,
PAinguIN

Your very welcome![emoji106]
I have 2 d2vzw devices (with 1 of them that has an Unlocked Bootloader) and, though I don't use them as my primary device, I still use them for testing purposes (ie... my developments and such) but, their still a decent device to use when necessary.
Enjoy!
