[G955F] Flashing a stock rom: Warranty void? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hello,
Like many users on this forum, I updated my brand new S8+ to Pie/OneUI and I hate it.
However, i've been digging on the forum for quite a while and I can't find a clear answer.
Would flashing the official Oreo ROM via ODIN void my warranty?
And where can I find the official ROM for my particular version of the phone?
--EDIT-- I found it on updato, thanks to a thread i missed
Any help would be greatly appreciated

No it won't void your warranty/Trip Knox.
You can download firmware from either sammobil.com or updato.com these are the two i generally use. ( I see you've found it )
If you do downgrade remember to disable software updates so that you don't go back to pie again.

I read that there's a way to downgrade like it's an update and keep all data and apps installed (via the HOME file on ODIN), is it real?

Firstly before doing anything I recommend doing a backup first. I don't have a preferred method but you could use cloud based service (Google/Samsung) or something like samsung's smartswitch.
You will need to unzip the firmware that you downloaded. In it will be 5 files which will have to be place in the correct sections of Odin.
There will be 2 CSC files:
CSC - clean install will wipe apps and data ( same as a factory reset )
Home_CSC - dirty install will keep your apps and data.
If downgrading you will need the same or higher bootloader version. The BL number is the 5th number from the right of the firmware name you download.

Samsung galaxy s7 device status custom / security notice unauthorised actions

Hi
Please can someone help. I have just got a Samsung galaxy s7 and was trying to get back some pictures I accidentally deleted using a program called Dr Fone. I followed the instructions and didn't realise I was possibly rooting my phone
The phone is on Status custom and I just want to restore it to how it was originally. I have reset to factory settings but this hasn't corrected it. I am constantly getting a security notice about unauthorised actions
I am not very technical so if anyone could help please give the exact links for where I can download a program to repair this - I have read about a program called Odin but not sure exactly where or how to find this. Does this need to be installed on a computer or phone?
Some more information on the phone is that it's a UK phone. Firmware CSC code is BTU if that helps. It's an S7 SM-G930F
As I said I am not very technical so please can anyone help and if possible provide a step by step guide for what to do that would be amazing
Thank you, David
Odin is a desktop application, it is uses to flash firmware onto your phone. By flashing stock firmware you'd get your device back to stock (excluding KNOX and FRP)
Here's a detailed guide on what Odin is and how to use it https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung-stock-firmware-using-odin
You can use that site to get the firmware for your device by region and carrier.
Ok great thanks
Please can you tell.me what excluding KNOX and FRP means?
I will give this a go. Have started the download for step 3. This download seems to be taking a couple of hours. Do you know roughly how long it takes to put everything on the phone once the download if complete?
I may have to leave the actual installation until tomorrow if it takes a long time.
Thanks again for all you help
KNOX is a way for Samsung to check if you have altered the firmware. Flashing custom firmware and/or rooting trips the KNOX counter, and will void warranty and disable some Samsung apps.
FRP is factory reset protection, if prevents someone from being able to steal your phone and get access by factory resetting. Even after a factory reset, FRP is intact and will require the original google account to do the device setup. So make sure you know your credentials, or delink your account before flashing.
Both are part of the firmware that can't be modified or reverted.
Updato can be quite slow to download, sammobile.com is another site but also slow in my experience. The flashing process takes about 15 minutes on your PC, but the phone can sit on the Samsung splash screen for 15 or so minutes as well.

Great thanks for all your help so far. I have completed the ODIN update and got the green pass. The phone is trying to boot up and is saying it is encrypted for security and asking for a password. When I put what I thought was the password in it doesnt seem to accept it, is there any way around this?
I read on another message to try the password default_password but this hasnt worked
I have realised that when I flashed the AP download to the phone that there were 4 other files that were downloaded after I unzipped it. Do I put these into ODIN too?
Thanks again

There are 5 files. You have to flash 4 BL, AP, CP, CSC (not home-csc !) Keep in mind if you previously had firmware from January 2018 and up you can only flash equal or newer firmware.

flashing official firmware through odin stops secure folder from working?

Hello,
I'm in a bit of a confusing situation. When nougat released for s6 last year i think, i flashed it through odin and after that samsung launched/introduced secure folder for nougat and i tried it. It wasn't working because my device status wasn't "official" anymore.
So now I'm thinking again to flash uk firmware (from sammobile) for galaxy s7 sm-g930f(not rooted & device status is OFFICIAL) via odin would this problem happen again if i flash it?
Thanks if anyone's interested to answer my query..!
If you flash the correct firmware from a trusted firmware website, you shouldn't have any issues.
But flashing the wrong firmware (e.g. for the wrong SoC) or flashing firmware from a random blog site might get you in trouble, as they can end up being phone dumps instead of the actual official package.
If you use the files from updato, sammobile, or one of the firmware tools (I think this works despite ceasing development https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647) I'd say you'd be safe.
Chances are if your device was Custom, then you have rooted it at some point / flashed custom, in that case KNOX will be tripped (0x1) and if secure folder relies on KNOX being valid (0x0) as a lot of Samsung stock apps do, it will not work any longer

Even if we have the ota file, it can be flashed via AP section of Odin and would it void warranty ?

Most likely no because it's an update. But maybe it will be released as separate system installation with ODIN images. And flashing CUSTOM recovery (boot image too) will trip knox, flashing stock should be fine

I know that flashing custom recovery trips knox but will the beta image void the warranty ? I have flashed stock images using odin many times and never tripped knox but idk about beta images.
This ROM is only for India A750F and not for European A750FN so far.
I think as long as there is no European A750FN Pie version via Beta Programm, there won't be any flashable Roms as well !!!
If you have the pie update let us know if there is any improvement in the camera, cause right now it's a real let down. (Capture of any type of foliage turn into a color blob)
Can someone post this firmware for download?:fingers-crossed:
Yes

I asked samsung care and they said it would. They said even flashing stock firmwares using sammobile or etc, will void the warranty, i.e. any kind of flashing will. I think its a little odd that It would void it, but if they said then its possible. And all this is for India, I don't know about any other countries' policies.
Yes they say it but as long as your knox is not tripped (which wont trip if you flash stock firmwares) you will get the warranty as long as you didnt mess upduring flashing.

Correct , only if Knox is tripped Samsung can and actually will refuse to repair phones with warranty taking over costs.
In EU this is kind of behavior is not supported by the jurisdiction, but Samsung charges you for everything that is normally covered up by warranty anyway, if you have Knox tripped, means custom bootloader installed once.

How to manually install Security Updates on rooted SM-G930F (twrp + Magisk)

I've searched in vain on how to manually update to latest security patch, now that Sammy informs me that my device has been modified in an unauthorized way and will not allow OTA updates.
In sammobile I can see that my phone has a new security update. My question is if I have to install the complete firmware or security updates are available from some other source?
With respect to the latter, Sammy doesn't seem to make security updates available on its page and I would have preferred just patching a smaller file and not the whole firmware.
Any guidance appreciated.
Cheers!
if u use the home csc file when flashing new firmware with odin ur device will not been wiped, just updated without losing data.

Many thanks Roberto, for your answer. Unfortunately, I have a few more questions which I hope you can help me with. At the SamMobile it says Download Odin v3.13.3 and running it displays the following warning: see image here.
It says I have to: ...delete my Google account (Sammy account) before downloading the binary. I suppose that by "downloading" they mean moving firmware to the phone, but it doesn't seem very logic...?
The unlocking referred to I suppose is the OEM unlock, and no problem there.
I haven't found any explanation why this new measure of having to delete the Google account is necessary and wonder if you could help clarify it?
Cheers!

1. If flashing stock firmware you don't need OEM unlocked.
2. OEM unlocked is used for flashing non signed Samsung files/firmware. IE: twrp, root etc.
3. Using the home_csc ( not CSC ) as stated in the previous post should keep your data. It is recommended to flash the 4 files when upgrading. But always do a backup first.
4. If you have twrp or root you will need to redo again.
5. Usually deleting any accounts from your phone turns off FRP protection.

Thanks spawnlives for your response.
As mentioned in the subject I had TWRP and Magisk, and, first time around I was aware of loosing apps, their configuration and internal data. I would think the same would happen any subsequent times - hence my question how to install only the security patches.
I suppose it's not possible... In that case, with security patches for my S7
sometimes every month, it's not worth going through the hazzle of adding TWRP and Magisk.
Shame on Sammy penalizing rooted customers when it won't update the Android version of more than 2-year old phones.
Another, shame on Sammy has to do with how security patches are more frequent for "important" countries (i.e. where Samsung sells most). In the previous link above, just select another country, say Costa Rica, which only has received one security update for this year - as opposed to three for Germany. Why?

If you modify your phone ( root ) you will loose the option to update ( OTA update ).
If you want to update you phone you will have to download firmware and flash with Odin. Everytime that you update firmware you will have to re-root you phone again.

Generally yes ( mainly with rooting )
You can backup your app/data by using something like Google backup service or smart switch ( PC app ).
Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm not requesteing a completely useless thing cause I haven't found a fix so far. Since it's somehow related to firmware flashing via Odin, I chose to ask in this thread.
I bought my Galaxy S8+ a while ago and carrier unlocked it (It was on Vodafone Romania). Ever since unlocking the carrier, I can't seem to receive any firmware updates for some reason.
Smart switch says I'm at the latest firmware version but according to Sammobile, I'm far from being at the last version. (Still Android 8 on it)
My phone is not rooted (I haven't felt the need to root it so far because it's been doing great). Any ideas how can I fix this and install the latest firmware?
If I download the latest Romania firmware from sammobile (carrier-free version) and flash it through Odin, would it work or I'd encounter a difference because the CSC is Vodafone Romania?
Thanks!
Hey is there a way to root the SM-G975U with security update on july 1, android pie, and a way to unroot? (like the stock rom files)
Thanks
