it takes 7min for GPS to find my location...any help
Verizon/HTC update should have fixed this lock-on issue. Go to settings and check for an update. Might take awhile to get since its a rolling update

man my gps is still off before and after update but it locks on quickly tho
I don't get it... my GPS seemed to work fine before the OTA... now I can't get a lock for the life of me - whether I'm outside or inside...
When I load up Maps, the Wifi or Cell location finds me fine... but when I try to get a GPS lock, forget about it. The map icon and GPS icon just keep blinking - forever. Correct me if I'm but with a GPS lock, those 2 icons will stop blinking.
Navigation takes nearly 15 mins to lock on... None of the suggested fixes have worked.. nor am I rooted so I can't go and change the gpsconfig file...
I'm in NYC so I'm assuming the buildings have an effect on getting the GPS lock...

Same here. Before the OTA my GPS was fine. Sure it might take 30-60 seconds to get a lock if I've had the GPS radio off for a while, but once it locked it worked great and would re-lock quickly in the future. Now, I keep dropping GPS signal while using it, and using the GPS Test app shows it's not getting a good signal or locking on to as many sats as it was before. Clearing the A-GPS data and downloading the list seems to help, a little, but it's temporary. (Stock, unrooted)
Try GPS Status and Toolbox from the Market.

I wouldn't call it worthless - it did fix a few things like video cam sound and 3G<=>4G transitions, but there are certainly some lingering problems.

I've tried that about 20 times now... never got a GPS lock by using that app. I use to the app to reset it, then download the data... nothing. What else needs to be done while using that app?
Disabling VZW Location Services has helped my situation dramatically. I tried using GPS status tricks to no avail.
I did this yesterday and now I get GPS locks at roughly 3 seconds.
May not work for everyone but it's worth a shot.

That's all I did. If I open Google Maps, I'll lock in less than five seconds within 100-ish feet, and lock spot-on in another five-10 seconds.
(Currently running das BAMF 1.6 Debloat / 1.16.00.0402w_1 baseband (new radio) / Adryn 4.3a kernel.)
Before the OTA it was taking me 30-60 seconds to get a lock. Now it's not unusual for me to lock in 5-6 seconds.

Same here, just didn't notice the OTA turned VZW LS back on. Turning that off again flat out cured all of my lock timing issues. It's insanely different now, back to what I was used to before the OTA.
Google search seems to be keeping my phone awake and destroying my battery.
Using the GEL, my phone was awake any time my launcher was active. Switching to Nova, it seems this issue is mitigated, however if I ever go to use the search app (or Now), it initiates the battery rape-fest.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I know lots of people here have their data and/or wifi enabled/connected 24/7, so it may not effect them.
I'm linking photos stored in my DB account showing some of these battery drains.

The periods of no signal is when I'm at work - there's no service out here so I might as well have it on airplane mode.
Unfortunately, I really like the GEL, and was hoping that there'd be an easy fix to this. Switching run times doesn't help. I'm currently on ART.
Any advice is helpful.

Once or twice Search would keep my phone awake and drain the battery. Something to do with toggling some Location settings on or off.
Force stopping the application fixed the issue for me each time once I noticed it on my battery list.

Hmm I also had this problem and also was tinkering with location settings the other night... interesting. If it starts acting up I'll force stop it.

My issue is that I shouldn't have to force stop it. Why is it running wild? This is a Google application, shouldn't this be near flawless?

I just know it's a pretty easy fix (force stop or reboot) so not a huge deal IMO.
If I had to guess Search is trying to look up some location information which it can't currently access. Instead of stopping it just keeps trying forever. I've yet to see the issue since disabling Locations completely and experienced the issue only with partial location services enabled.
My advice would be to leave Location services completely on or completely off. It may effect those with locations on, but either reporting or history (or both) off.

Oooo, apparently I had history on and reporting off. I'll try turning both off and letting search run for a bit tomorrow, I'll see what happens. If it comes down to it, I'll submit a bug report.

shouldn't be an issue
I have been having the same identical issue as you guys. I have found shockingly little in my searches, which I've been doing periodically for the last few months, really, since I've had the phone(12/5/13).
Now for the particulars :
I have a nexus 5. I'm running the stock ROM and kernel via OTA (4.4.2).
I am rooted (via wugfresh's toolkit) and I have the xposed framework installed along with only a couple of modules, (gravitybox, bootmanager).
Now all this means I am essentially bone stock which means since its a nexus 5 I have the GEL launcher by default and I love it and the setup in general, (my favorite setup so far of all my phones, nexi and other).
Now I've been fortunate and have never really needed to track down and eliminate software causing battery decimating "wakelocks" on any of my devices. And apparently the newer versions of KitKat make finding and solving wake lock issues difficult using apps developed for the purpose.
If I were to upload screenshots of my battery screen when the issue is presenting itself, Google search is up in the top five at least. And when I click it for details it shows similar readouts to what's been posted by OP in his screenshots.
I can't be the only one having serious issues with wakelocks cause by Google search on their nexus 5 and I'm baffled by the lack of discussion I've been able to find regarding this issue, (my google-fu is in my opinion at least up to par)
Whenever I notice my battery draining faster than normal without fail I go into my battery settings and discover that my phone is awake constantly regardless of screen-on time and the culprit is always exclusively Google search. Now its far from difficult to force stop the app and go about my business. And it usually doesn't cause me any issues for a time once that's been done. However, the unpredictability of the Google search app causing a crippling wake lock is for me the main issue as it means I cannot leave my phone unattended for more than a few hours without the possibility of coming back to my phone with my battery that's been molested. The battery in my opinion is more than acceptable and I quite like it. However the uncertainty is horrible.
I've read through the posts In this thread (regrettably few) and I have not been able to make a correlation between location services being on in any of the three modes and Google search wakelocking my ****. Also, I use Google Now all the time every day, and hotword detection is always on to call it up from the home screen by voice which i use even more so. So in my opinion while it is possible I'm sure that somewhere in all that there is a trigger for the issue, it is by no means predictable and in my experience never reproducible.
Now, for the "Google Search" app to cause a wake lock that will persist until the apps been manually force stopped, completely unpredictably represents a HUGE BUG that un-does all of the amazing work with our chipset and kernel and os that gives us such great battery life without having to sacrifice clock speed via custom min/max settings or governor controls.
I just don't get it. This is the first time I've ever encountered such a glaring problem/bug with so little complaint or even discussion.
I think we all should submit official bug- reports to Google about this issue and start being vocal in all of the android communities. I very very rarely comment or post as I am always able to make do by searching and reading diligently. But this blows my mind, the lack of posts and discussion would normally suggest this is a very limited problem affecting a very small minority. But I don't buy that. My set up is too stock, too close to the largest percentage of nexus 5 users to be so. Maybe people are just force stopping the app and forgetting about it, chalking it up to something they've personally done to their phone because "how could Google search be doing this to everyone else". I don't know. But this has to be more widespread of an issue than search results are indicating.
In summation: what OP said lol. But I don't think it has anything to do with what's been suggested by other posters on this thread. Their suggestions may work, and they may mitigate the issue. But if that is the case. Than this a very huge bug that threatens to undo all of the amazing work that's been done with aosp regarding battery efficiency and optimization.

Tap Google search in your battery and check how long it's kept your phone awake. Then back, and check again. If the seconds just got higher it's currently eating your battery and needs to be force stopped.
Any suggestions are just to mitigate the problem for now of course. Hopefully it's being worked on.
I've yet to see the issue again but I have Locations and Hot Word off, Google Now on. I strongly believe using either "device only" or turning off the 2 settings within Locations can act as a temporary fix however.

Thank you man, it works. To make sure it works well, also erase registry file (/data/misc/sensors/sns.reg) and reboot your phone (credit toPsychoI3oy, on https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/plugins/servlet/mobile#issue/NIGHTLIES-1717). Thanks Sultanxda for the PR and I'll work out a flashable zip soon to work around this hassle.
You guys rock
Guys, please flash this zip in recovery mode to apply the fix which was introduced by Sultanxda's PR. You can also flash it right after your nightly's flashed. Additionally, you can write your own addon.d script to survive OTA or dirty/clean installations.
Can anybody tell how can I flash this file in my OPO.
I am having CM12.1
Can we flash using apply update option shown when we reboot device in recovery mode ?
I'm wondering if anybody else is having similar problems.
Upgraded to the T-Mobile Nougat 7.0 OTA update. After that, I'm having constant "GPS signal not found" errors in Pokemon Go and my weather widget (1Weather) is having problems finding my location to update. Restarts don't do anything and this problem only happens periodically. Sometimes the apps work! They worked perfectly fine in Marshmallow.
Other GPS apps like Google Maps and GPS Status are working fine; pinpoints my location to within 20 feet. I've tried clearing and re-downloading AGPS data, un/re-installing the malfunctioning apps, clearing cache, data, revoking all permissions to re-enable them. None of that works.
go to Setting > Apps > select app you want > Permissions > disable GPS Permission
and reopen the app and check if it crashes or asking for permission again.
try this solution with restart and let me know if problem remains

Update: Sometimes a toast popup comes up that says Google Play Services has stopped responding (crashed). When this crashes, it seems to fix the GPS issues. So I guess now I just have to wait for a proper update for Nougat and the S7...
I have this same issue (same setup as well). I haven't opened my weather app yet (rather just look at the sky ), but I do have constant issues with Pokemon GO. It will just sit there endlessly trying to get the GPS signal, but it doesn't have issues if I am moving.
I have found multiple reddit threads and Samsung support threads on the GPS issue with no luck.

I have been reading up on all of them today, as I normally have zero issues while sitting at my desk. I have toggled many options including optimize battery usage, location itself, clear cache, downloading GPS status and toolbox, and rebooting.
Right now the changes I have made from default are turn off the new app power saving monitoring (settings>battery>3 dots>advanced settings>disable app power monitor), turned of wifi scanning and bluetooth scanning.
The root of my problem was attempting to use the pokemon go plus. It allows the app to use the location of the device in the background while the screen is off and the app is not in the foreground. It was not lighting up every 5 minutes for the pokestop like it normally does. Going to maps, I discovered my location was way off. After opening the app, it would correct itself after a few seconds, but other times it would not.
This is also affecting smart lock (unlock) which allows you to choose locations where your phone does not require a password or fingerprint to unlock. It had always been flaky, but lately actually worked fairly well.
GPS issues is far from the only issue. I see monthly updates coming to us for a while (hopefully carriers will be right behind)
turning off battery optimization for locationservices seems to have made a difference. Smart lock is now working consistently and I am no longer drifting in my app. I also rebooted right before making this change, so that could have an effect too. I am going to leave it like this for a couple days to see if it helps. This makes sense, as the doze feature in nougat got reworked.
If you go to the Location settings, you'll notice that the "Locating Method" will randomly change between High Performance, Battery Saving, and Device Only. Pokemon Go is not compatible with Battery Saving, so if you get that error message when you know your GPS is enabled, go to Location settings and switch the Locating Method to either High Performance or Device Only. (Quickest way to do that is to press & hold on the GPS icon in the notification shade, which'll take you directly to the setting you need to toggle.)
The problem I'm having is getting that setting to stick. It seems to randomly change its Locating Method throughout the day, and I can't figure out how to force a static setting.
Here's what I've figured out, works 100% of the time:
1. Go to your device administrators and disable Android Device Manager (ADM).
2. Force Close Google Play Services.
3. Re-enable ADM.
4. GPS works now.
This thread is old, but the annoying problem persists.
I have this damn "GPS Signal not found" in Pokemon Go, too since i updated to Android 7.0.
Outside the GPS works fine and a have no problems. Inside buildings i have trouble with this damn bug since Android 7.0.
Sometimes it workes, sometimes not. If the phone is laying flat on the desk, the error comes up. Then i take the phone up and shake it a little bit, then the error goes away. After laying the phone back, the error comes up again.
Stopping google play services, clearing and updating the AGPS data and reassigning the permissions to the app didnt work.
Is there possibly a new useless battery saving feature in Android 7.0 thats checks for the accelometer and stops the gps service if there is no motion ?
I disabled the battery saving feature completly in the settings.
Has someone got successful rid of this damn error ? Or do i need to flash Android 6.0.1 for better gameplay ?
Any updates on this issue?
There seems to be lots of problems with GPS on these devices, and also on devices with similar chipsets (looking at you, MSM8996) all over the Internet.
Zero solutions so far :-/
I am suffering something similar.
I have tried Sygic, Here maps, Google maps and Waze.
Basically GPS location is turning on-off every few seconds (not check mark, But signal is turning on off)
For a while GPS finds location, guides me, Then arrow just stops. After few seconds It finds location again (I will have moved few 100 meters further by then, So display suddenly jerks to new location).
Very annoying.
I am running lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1) on Zenfone selfie ZD551KL.
Have already tried various builds of Lineage along with full format.
I'm using 8/256gb MIUI 12.5.1.0 global version and I have some issues.
I can't upload anything anywhere from gallery or any file manager. It's really annoying. I would attach a video I've recorded here, but I can't.
I'm having more and more problems with this phone. Photos don't save to gallery, so I had to use Google photos and some third party file managers to do the job. It forces dark mode on every app when you have dark mode turned on, even when it sometimes looks ****ty and I had to turn off messenger heads, cause they disabled them and instead, now they look square and don't work like they're supposed to, so I had to turn them off. I've created this account just to ask this, cause I felt like you people might know what's going on. Thanks in advance.
Looks Mike 12.5.1 is a public beta (have it on my phone as well)... File a feedback report to POCO, post some comments at Play Store... and wait for upcoming update of MIUI or switch to some custom ROM.
Edit: after turning on MIUI optimization, most of the problems are fixed.

Same device, same issue. I had it on MIUI 12.0.5 and have it now on 12.5.1 (both debloated). It believed it was because of the debloating but reading this it might be a problem only on the 8/256 GB version?
I can share from MIUI gallery but not from any Messenger (WhatsApp) or Edit App (Snapseed). I always need to save the pic/video and only then I can share. So annoying.

Had to look this up (was not sure if debloating killed it). Had to reenable the developer settings again by tapping multiple times on the MIUI version in the About 12.5.1 section.
Then Phone settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Turn on MIUI optimization (was off)
So I enabled that and so far checking it it really seems to solve the issue. Weird that this is causing such file sharing problems.
So are you guys saying that it may be a better idea to buy the 128/6 version because the 256/8 is really buggy?
It's MIUI that is buggy. 256/8 is fine.
Other custom ROMs do better.
MIUI optimizations is just crap.
Firstly, someone at xiaomi was drunk who chose a name like this.
If its turned on, i have experienced, few apks fail to install.
Once its turned off, you can install those apps, but then whole of UI is messed up(like circle icons go square, and dont know what else..)
So basically miui chose to hinder people of turning optimizations off, by deliberately introducing these kind of wiered issues.
I just cant handle miui .. just cant.
No one should use MIUI.. its just a piece of CRAP.

I rebooted ny device multiple times. Didn't fix.
Lately ever since the last update, my Poco x3 phone, which I purchased in January of 2020/2021 has been acting rather weirdly.
Before the update or patch I could easily edit my documents, now it won't let me write anything or it double collies the text/writing or puts it in odd places that I didn't command it to do so, this is really annoying because it means my work turns into Gibberish.
I've tried everything from a hard reset to uninstalling then reinstalling my apps, but nothing works.
I even tried to o email Poco about this problem but all my emails suddenly vanished once I seid send like they never existed, also my work has been mysteriously disappeared like I deleted it when I know I didn't.
Anyone else having these problems?
If so why, and is there an easy fix?.
Yours sincerely

Lately ever since the last update, my Poco x3 phone, which I purchased in January of 2020/2021 has been acting rather weirdly.
Before the update or patch I could easily edit my documents, now it won't let me write anything or it double collies the text/writing or puts it in odd places that I didn't command it to do so, this is really annoying because it means my work turns into Gibberish.
I've tried everything from a hard reset to uninstalling then reinstalling my apps, but nothing works.

Best fast easy fix is get a custom rom and get rid of miui...
Now on a serious not, you may need to wait for next update to fix it or take the phone to a xiaomi service center for them to try fix it...
