Hey all,
I have Titanium Backup Pro and have been using it for years to freeze system updaters and apps. I primarily did this because I always like to be rooted and obviously OTA updates will break things if installed, but also because I hated getting a notification (that you can't dismiss) everyday that an update was available. I did the same thing after rooting my Mi Mix 3, but two days ago I got a notification for the MIUI 10.3.1 global update. I checked Titanium Backup and Updater 6.2.5 (the app responsible for the notification) appeared to be unfrozen, so I tried to freeze it. The toast notification that it was frozen pops up, but the app does not appear to be frozen in the list (is is not highlighted in blue like other apps). I again got the notification yesterday, which permanently stays in the status bar. So for some reason Titanium Backup is unable to freeze the Updater app, any idea why? Or any idea how to fix it?
TL;DR: Titanium Backup seems to be able to freeze all other apps except Updater, and I am unaware of any other way of not showing the notification since the option to turn Updater's notifications off is grayed out. Any suggestions?
Setup:
Mi Mix 3 global 6GB/128GB
MIUI global 10.2.2 stable
Rooted with Magisk 17.3
Install xiaomi.eu ROM?

I don't think you can freeze/uninstall it without causing issues. I used to do it with the mix 2 and didn't go well. Might be different on miui 10.
Only thing the OTA will break is root but flashing magisk will out it back to normal
Just create a backup then uninstall it. I do the same on my global beta rom.
And no, its doesn't cause any issue unless you open update in setting.

Backups are always good for anything you don't really need that is a system package. If Titanium Backup can't freeze it. Is it able to successfully uninstall it? Because you update manually due to being rooted, removing the service should be fine. If Titanium Backup can't uninstall it, use ADB.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.updater

Ok, this morning my phone started downloading the VZW update. I'm stock-Rooted with Wallet and Google Now running. When the update was finished downloading it gave me a few minutes to accept or to defer. I chose the defer button and then it ask's me to pick a time later today to do it. How do I get out of this? I don't want to run the update.
Thanks

Download Titanium Backup from the Play store, run it, go to the Backup/Restore tab, scroll down to "SDM 1.0" and uninstall it. You should probably make a backup of it first just in case you ever need to get it back, but I've never read of it being used for anything other than pushing Verizon OTAs, which you will probably never want to receive if you're rooted.
If you have the paid version of Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" the app instead, but uninstalling it with the free version works too.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help
I tried freezing it before I received the update and that didn't work. Guess its somehow overridden by Verizon.

I have not received any prompts for OTA updates yet and was curious as to why that is. Apparently, some ROMS are coded without the SDM 1.0 file because I am running Clean ROM 2.5 and cannot find SDM 1.0 anywhere in the list. Another reason why Scrosler and CleanROM are boss!

Any custom ROM worth its salt should not include the SDM app, CleanROM isn't special in that regard.
I had deleted several Google apps I never used with Titanium Backup (Google Music, Movies, Hangouts)
And was wondering, when we get the Marshmallow update will the update go thru even after them few system apps are removed? Or would it fail?
Reason I ask is cuz Titanium Backup ain't letting me reinstall them ?
Thanks in advance

No. You modified your device.
You should get the update with no trouble.
But it also depends on the apps you deleted.
The messager app alone kept me from updating the last OTA. I had to flash the factory rom before it would download the OTA.
As for Titanium Backup, I can't remember ever having a problem with it restoring system files but now I noticed several times that it won't restore some of my system apps.

Same here, I even have the paid version and it works perfectly on my Nexus 7 and Optimus L90.
Maybe the app needs to be updated or something, I've noticed it only does that with system apps on this device

Maybe it's Lollipop 5.1 because I had no problems on the G 2nd Gen running 5.01 on custom or stock roms.
Hoping someone can help me, first thing I normally do when getting a new phone is disable apps like duo, Gmail, play movies and music etc. Got the Mi Mix 3 today and went to try the usual and it won't let me. Any ideas how I can disable some apps when the options aren't available?
Cheers

Go in settings- permissions- autostart and remove apps u want

That's still not allowing me to disable them, only giving or revoking permission to auto start. I'm actually wanting to disable the apps so no notifications, no icon etc, would uninstall if I could but not getting that option either.

You can't disable apps in miui software.
You can run ADB commands to remove the apps if you know their package names.
Or you can root device and install app remover apps from the store
Don't want to root as lose banking gpay etc but will try via adb

Which ROM you currently on?
Flashing Magisk and hiding the app from within magisk settings should get all apps working.
Currently the global rom

If it shipped with global then safety net will probably pass with Magisk root.
Can't say for sure as the one I shipped with came with the chinese rom
Chinese ROM passes with Magisk
EU Chinese ROM passes without Magisk
GSI ROMs will pass with magisk
What's the difference between GSI, EU and Global Roms?

EU is the Chinese ROM with Google built in and some optimisations.
Global is basically the above but with no EU team optimisations.
GSI https://source.android.com/setup/build/gsi
Thanks Mackay for the reply - do you know of any benefits of the EU roms over Global? also, read somewhere that Google Messages notifications work on EU but not sure of any other benefits.
Cheers

Only noticeable difference to me is the notifications work fine on EU. Other than that there will be tweaks here and there but nothing special.
I'd recommend going with the EU one.
Tried unlocking bootloader but it says my account isn't associated with a phone number.
Got it ready to unlock now, have to wait 72 hours... will flash EU rom from Global stable is that ok? or cause issues?

That's mostly true... but not 100%...
For instance, Magisk and Magisk Hide work well with Google Pay, Netflix etc.
However, Halifax Bank are doing some extra check... annoying I can't use that app on my rooted phone.
I use Monzo so hopefully it will work with Magisk
Everytime I read a post in the Xiaomi.eu forums it says to install China rom first and then flash the EU rom afterwards - is this required? Or can I go straight from Global to EU
New Global Stable version based on Android 10.
Thanks for the heads up. Update was available to me and updated without issue.
Same here!!! everything ok apart adaway not working anymore

Is there any place I can download a TWRP version of this update?

So far so good after the update. Doesn't seem to have added any of the MIUI 11 features that weren't included in the Android 9.0 update nor have I noticed any major changes caused by the update to Android 10 as of yet

I also don't see any additional features. Came from 10.3.3, without formatting data.
Cam at night mode still sucks. Battery improved a little bit, surprise. I'm satisfied all in all... Everything works.
The only thing that i don't get along is editing the build.prob, but no matter.

Does Magisk works with this update?
Yes magisk 20.3 work . You must flash magisk if you want twrp. Otherwise the rom flash recovery when it boot and twrp disappear
I am having some problems with this update.
Sometimes(much times) i am having problems with lag on google photos and chrome (on photos search).
When i'm casting something on chromecast i can't change the cellphone volume (the blue bar doesn't appear when i press the buttons as it used to), just the cast one. To change the call/alarm/midia volume i have to go trough system > sound.
But the worst one is when my phone freezes for 2/3 seconds mostly when i'm watching a video on chrome. Idk if the problem is on gchrome or the rom itself.
anyone having something similar?

Same thing happened to me after the update. Here's what I did to get it back.
1. Hard reset (didn't work but never hurts)
2. Settings -> About phone -> System update -> ( . . . ) -> Download latest package
3. (Reboot and let install complete)
Let it reinstall and once it rebooted I had audio through the earpiece back.

Hi, I flashed this rom and magisk 20.3 together. But it will end up with a bootloop to twrp recovery. Could you please help me with it? Thanks!
Magisk save the stock boot ans write a new boot.
You may attempt to flash again the stock boot (extract it from the rom ) with twrp in boot.

The developer (ingbrzy) stated that if you want to upgrade to this rom "Update to MIUI 12. You have to install this update MANUALLY - OTA from MIUI 11 will not work."
MIUI 12
Ok, my way=
1. Download the ROM
2. Start MIUI Update
3. Select the ROM manuall
4. It reboot to Twrp 3.1.1-7
5. Finish the Install with no Error
6. Reboot to System ends with newstart to Twrp.
No, you need to boot to TWRP only. In there, select the downloaded zip file unser "install". As mentioned, updating through the system settings option wont work.
MIUI 12
Ok, thanks !
Try it again.

I had already tried Magisk, not worked. It look like some issue with EU rom as I observed few other ppl also posted the same issue in EU site. By the way I am using Jio simcard in 1st slot, I use only one sim. Earlier when I was using MIUI11, it was working good. After updating MIUI12 beta version started this problem.
I have one more surprize with this ROM, there is no option to restore the backup. We can only take backup but we cant restore. This is really very strange.
