I noticed that if wifi is not available, Polaris connects to GPRS automatically. I want to use only wifi for internet connection, and would like to turn off GPRS leaving wifi working, because GPRS is very costly. Can anyone help?
try this app.
This application can turn off GPRS only if it is already active, I want GPRS/3G to be turned off permanently.
i'm not getting what you mean. U have installed GPRS/EDGE.... settings. If U run this app u see all your connections as ENABLED. U need to select each one and after press TOGGLE button (ENABLED changes to DISABLED). So afterwards device is not able 2 connect thru GPRS/Edge... If u need it from time to time just start app and pres toggle again to enable
settings->connection->connections->advanced->select network
pick the item in the dropdownbox for auto connect network which is not my isp
Easy. After you set up your wifi connection, go to your Comm Manager and switch off Data Connection. Wifi has to be on. If you switch it off, Data Con will come back on.
Basically have your wifi permanently on and all your apps would use that instead of 3G/GPRS.
Edit: Sorry missed the auto connect when 'no network available' point. What Rudegar said is sound.
Is there any known consequences of wifi permanently on?

You mean other than the wifi draining your battery, and as you go around the city always bugging you whith "new network found" dialogs, and having to connect to an unprotected AP every time you want something from the net?
No, not realy
When I go from WIFI to 3g/4g, it takes up to a minute for the check mark under H to disappear... during this period, apps can't connect to the Internet (and I get a connection failed error message) It is merely a hiccup but I wondered if this is a common issue and if there's any fix. It does this from all wifi connections I've tested.
I also have problems connecting to market when switching to wifi on occasion. No issue connecting to market on 3g.
I am on stock rooted ATTn1 rom.
OK, I stumbled on what seems to be a fix.
I went to APNs. The only one listed was MEdia Net.
I hit the menu button and pressed Reset to default.
It created a new locked APN called MMS. MEdia Net remained selected.
I exited APNs and went and turned off WIFI. 3g data immediately came on (up and down arrows) with no delay.
Anyone understand why this worked? Hope this helps someone in the future.
Hello All,
I am trying to connect to my work network with no luck! Prior to the one plus one I had a Nexus 5 that connected with no issues. This is what happens:
1. Choose connect (password is saved)
2.The text under the SSID goes from "connecting" back to "saved" in less than a second. The signal bars show 3 then drop to 1.
I've tried forgetting the network, flashing different ROM, kernel, modem with no luck.
Turned off "Avoid poor network connections" and "Wi-Fi optimization:
With the Wifi analyzer app the connection is steady around -60 to -50 dBm. If I try to connect using the wifi analyzer app it just stays on "Authenticating". I know the password is correct, I've re-entered it multiple times.
The wifi network is using the 2.5 ghz band, channel 1, and WPA authentication.
I haven't tried connecting with a static IP, however I might try this next.
Any ideas, this is driving me nuts! Plus all the iPhones around me get to brag!
Thanks in advanced.
I'm having the same problem, and it also seems to stumble connecting to data networks. I have been toggling airplane mode on/off and it then finds the wifi and data networks. This is annoying as hell, when it should auto find and lock any network it has remembered and passwords are correct.
Does anybody have a fix, or is there a radio that can be flashed to correct this?

I'd love to hear any resolutions to this issue as well... I posted this in the oneplus forums recently:
"I am having this problem too with my mom and dad's OPO . But what's funny is that it doesn't happen to my OPO. This sort of rules out any WiFi/router/network issues. Is it possible that certain installed apps on their phones may render the wifi to be unstable (e.g. permission settings for these apps?) Any help from the community is appreciated, thanks... this is an annoying problem for them as it drains out their LTE data!"
Dear xdaians
I am getting some problems in my new Note 4 SM 910G[India] after updating to the lollipop.
1. The wifi is getting turned ON automatically. Even if i turn it OFF, the next moment it will turn ON. This affecting the WiFi hotspot. Whenever i try to turn ON the wifi hotspot, after some time it will show one message "Turning on wifi will disable the WiFi hotspot" and WiFi turns ON automatically. So i have to use the "Forget network" option to get out from the wifi network. But it becomes really hectic. I googled the same but could not get similar ones or others are getting the problem like WiFi is turning OFF automatically.
2. Mobile network is getting disconnected. I don't see any problem with network operator or the SIM tray. Sometimes the "Network mode" option will be cleared automatically and no operators are available in "Network operators" and mobile is disconnected. It requires a restart to connect the mobile to the network back. If i try to select any option in "Network mode", the option becomes disabled!.
Any solution for the above two issues?. Divert the thread if you have any known solutions.
Thanks and regards,
Prajeesh

Sometimes you will need to wipe the device after a lollipop update so it should be stable.

I have this setup currently. I use quickshortcut maker LINK from the play store. When you open the app, it default to incremental search. Type in data usage and several results pop up. In there is settings. Under settings, is the 2nd choice called data usage. Choose it, and the next screen lets you try the shortcut you're making. Click it and it should bring up your mobile data screen where you can toggle the data on/off with just one button! PRESTO!!
Enjoy.

Turning mobile data off is not the same as aeroplane mode - your cellular radio is still active and you can send and receive calls and SMS messages.
Assuming the OP really wants no cellular radio, what they need to do is switch on aeroplane mode, and then switch WiFi back on again.

There's a toggle for it in the drop down menu, or am I missing something?

As I said earlier, you need to switch on aeroplane mode, and then turn Wifi back on again.
You can switch on both Wifi and Bluetooth when aeroplane mode is on.

Dave

Hello. More details please... Why do u want cell data off? If you set up wifi calling and use the preferred call method of wifi calling you don't need to do what your trying to do.
TRY THE FOLLOWING.....
Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Connections.
If necessary, slide the Wi-Fi switch right to the ON position.
Tap More connection settings.
Tap Wi-Fi Calling, now Select one of these options:
Wifi preferred
Cellular network preferred
Never use cellular network
Choose never use cellular network, and when u have a wifi connection your phone will use wifi calling not your carrier network.
This is how you do what your trying to accomplish I believe.
