Hey xda. Sorry if this post has been misplaced, but I noticed there is no device forum for the tablet I am asking about today, and that is understandable. My girlfriend recently got an eMatic eGlide Pro II XL tablet for her birthday and it is running Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3. I noticed that it had a lot of bloatware and no google play store on it, and she wanted the play store, so I rooted the device for her and installed the play store and it works like a charm. The only problem I seem to have run into is this read only folder called "oem". The path for this partition is /oem/ and there are a few bloatware apps in there. For some reason though, I cannot edit or delete anything in that partition as it says it is read only even though i am using the root functions of ES File Explorer. I am able to modify other system apps though root explorer. I even tried using terminal emulator commands to remove the items but it still didn't work. Is there a way I can mount this folder as read/write? If I can, that would be a blessing, as I could delete the crapware that came with the tablet and the old version of YouTube that is buggy and not updateable thanks to being placed in the oem folder. Thanks for reading all this guys, I know it's a wall of text, haha.
Ematic: What is the browser?
What is the browser that is install from factory.. on Ematic devices ..as it is not "Chrome" [It almost looks like Dolphin], when I tried to do a regular .apk install of "Chrome" from the Google store it dies which almost tells me that it need to be pushed into the device. So am I correct that I need to find a downloadable .apk of "Chrome" for Android 4.0.3 ?

How did you root the tablet? it seems there are several Ematic tablets being sold at wal-mart and I think people would like to know how you rooted it. (I know I would.)

I used a tool called Root with Restore by Bin4ry. It took me a couple times. The first time I did it, all it managed to do was slow the tablet down, then i just performed a factory reset and tried again using the same process until it worked. It didn't take all that long. The hardest part is getting the adb drivers to recognize the tablet. I will attach my adb drivers so you don't have to go through all the rigamarole.
Navigate to wherever your android sdk folder is. Mine is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk
Within the android-sdk folder, look for extras, then google, then usb_driver. Make a backup of everything in your usb_driver folder, just in case.
Next just extract the contents of the zip I attached to this post. Make sure USB debugging is on, and plug it in. It should be recognized assuming there isn't some other problem i haven't encountered or forgot to mention.
Once your computer recognizes the adb interface for your tablet, use the Root with Restore tool until it works.

I'll bet that you can get it rooted. You may have to edit those drivers though since I don't think my girlfriend's tablet isn't the same as the one you mentioned.
If the drivers I posted don't work for you, then open up "android_winusb.inf" from that zip file in your favorite text editor.
Somewhere under the "[Google.NTx86]" and "[Google.NTamd64]" sections, add this:
;eMatic egs005
Remember where you put those, cause what goes under those entries is the hardware ID of your tablet. You can get that by going under device manager and right clicking on your tablet, if it is unrecognized it should have a yellow triangle on it or something like that. Go to properties and go to the details tab, then from the drop down menu, select hardware IDs. In my case, two came up. Just pick one. If that one ends up not working later, use the one you didn't try.
Now, your entries should look like this:
;eMatic egs005
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, (your hardware ID)
Next, try to update the drivers on your tablet via device manager. Right click on your tablet like we did last time, and click properties. Go to the driver tab, and hit the update driver button. You'll have to manually navigate to where your drivers are. Select the folder where you extracted the zip to (make sure you have the edited file in there!) and follow the procedure to update the driver.
Next, open up an adb window and type in adb devices. If you have something showing up, congrats! You should be able to try the root tool now. As always, be careful!
eglide pro ll xl
I just bought the eglide pro ll xl also. From what I have read and done to my tab so far, it is already rooted from the factory. It sounds like a lot of the ematic tabs are. I've been researching different operating systems to put on my tab but there isn't anything that says it is specifically for mine. They pretty much just list the types of tablets the ROMS will work for. The question I have is what type of tablet is this. Allwinner a10? LY F1? TREQ? I would really like to know this and a good way to back up my current system so if I screw it up I can go back and try again.

I didn't add most of those entries in the drivers file, it originated as a sort of "fix all" driver that was posted on xda to connect many many types of different devices to adb without hassle. I added a few of the entries using the hardware ID method I described above to accommodate some less popular devices that my friends and family asked me to root.
I think I heard talk somewhere about custom roms for the eGlide, but I have no clue how to flash them, and seeing as how that tablet wasn't mine, I did not want to try to flash one and brick it, lol. I couldn't find any recoveries or any other tool to flash things to it. If you do find a way, all I can say is be careful.
As far as backing up goes, root with restore supports unrooting as well. I never performed that function though, since root hasn't done anything bad for the tablets I put them on, haha. I'm not certain there is an easy backup method since as I said a second ago, no custom recoveries. To be safe, I would recommend a factory data reset before attempting any rooting/unrooting of this tablet.
I hope I helped with my feedback.

I actually installed CWM 6.0.1.2 by Flowish on to my tab and it works great except for the process he has to get in to the recovery. I have to use the terminal emulator to launch it. That's why I am leery about installing a different ROM. If I can't get the thing to boot up properly I then can't get to the terminal emulator to get to recovery to restore my backup. I'm still searching and learning though. I'll figure it out eventually.

Check if there's fastboot for this tablet. There's a fastboot command to boot into the recovery. If not, then I would just not flash a Rom
Hello everyone,
I bought this tablet on ebay and it seems that the ROM preinstalled is a test ROM.
I searched the web to find a custom ROM but I couldn't find much info.
I found the way to root the tablet but that's all.
Is there anyone who can indicate me a link to a stock rom or a good custom one?
Thanks for those who will read and help!
What do you mean by TEST ROM?!!! this is ridiculous, I have the tablet and it's working like a charm even I received over air update yesterday, the only odd is that I can't use it as a phone because Lenovo has no license yet for that it's available only in the Chinese version, and I think this will be solved later when they start launching their mobile phones all over the world.
Hello mmis,
Test rom is not the correct terms but I didn't know how to call that !
The problem is that every widget I put on the desktop is loading but never display anything.
The information in "About tablet" are the following :
Model number : IdeaTab A2107A-H
Android Version : 4.0.3
Baseband version : MAUI.11AMD.W11.50.SP.V13, 2012/05/25 01:09
Build number : A2107A-H_S307_120605
If I search for system updates, it doesn't find anything. If I click on firmware update, the settings FC.
I made a factory reset but no luck.
That's why I thought it wasn't a stable version.
As long as you tried the factory reset with no luck, I think in your case its better to get back to Lenovo customer service or your local dealer if it's under warranty, they should be able to help you. it's a new device in the market and it will be difficult to find custom ROM for a while or even someone to give model-specific help. Good Luck
Would you mind linking to the instructions on how to root this thing?
Sure, no problem !
After several hours of search and difficulties to register onto Chinese websites
I managed to find the attached file. I take no credit for the tool because it was developped by someone else (SNARL I guess)
It was missing the superuser apk inside so I put it back and also translate the steps to English.
Here are the steps :
- Connect the tablet in Debug USB mode
- Launch root.bat
- The device will reboot at each of the 3 steps
If you need more info, don't mind to ask!

LePad Chinese Model A2107A-H
I have a Chinese issue model of the A2107A-H that has the dual sim card cellular feature. I've been trying to get it rooted to get rid of the Chinese apks on it, but normal rooting software has not been successful so far, including the one posted here from SNARL via Ichi go's post. I get a "device not found" error message and in device manager on my PC it indicates that there is no driver installed for the device. I have "debug" turned on and the USB link seems to be working as I can see file folders on the device, but the rooting software will not run. I've tried several of the most well known methods with no luck. Any ideas on this would be appreciated and in particular, if there is a driver I need to have installed to get the rooting software to work??
TIA!!!
Rob
First of all many thanks to you ichi go it was very easy to root this device as instructed, but as the one I have does not have the phone calling capability, I replaced the phone.apk with different one but now the device does not recognize the sim card at all, I tried to push many versions of phone.apk to system folder with no luck, it seems even if I put the apk in the system folder the device will not launch it at all, could you please help me in that.
I've had this tablet for a while and love it. I just got the OTA update and its downloading now.
I'm a also keen on rooting it and inns installing a custom ROM. I guess once its a bit more common, we can expect a dedicated Dev community here on XDA
The update failed to install. I'm not rooted or anything but upon restart it gave a signature verification error.
Any way to fix this?
Edit: got it! was a path error since i had changed the default storage.
but i can't figure out any changes

How does your device appear in the device manager? For sure, the adb driver isn't installed. If it's not the case, download android sdk and then the Google USB driver in the extra section.

The in-dash car tablet people should be happy to hear the A2107 has an FM Tuner. It's one of the few tablets that has a radio tuner, and the only modern 7" that I know of. I just ordered one. I will report back.
The Chinese stock rom I installed has the phone ability and that works very well! The problem of this stock rom is that the Google services aren't there. I'm trying to find a way to install the zip file but I need to know the exact path of the recovery partition.
I tried to find it with the cat /proc/emmc command but this partition isn't listed.

So I understood that you managed to flash the Chinese stock ROM, am I right?!! please tell me how to do as I am facing serious problems with my device, I managed to root and then I changed the phone.apk (what the hell I was thinking of) and now I have the the error message android.process.acore stopped working and sometimes the sittings force closed, I tried to re root, factory reset and deleting cache of almost everything with no use, even I contacted the Lenovo CS to reinstall the original firmware, I think they will charge me for that :crying:
by the way I don't have contacts anymore (I installed it manually) and the most impressive thing that the device doesn't recognize the SIM card (I cleverly deleted the original one phone.apk :silly and what ever apk I push into the system/app folder and change the permissions it will not install after reboot.
So...what do you think guys?!! any help?
I've confirmed this does work on the A2107-F.
I had some trouble with the ADB driver. I can't post links, so you will have to google it, but I used adb_driver_20110720.zip for the drivers. I forced it to install via Update Driver > Browse my computer > let me pick > have disk > pointed to the android_winusb.inf file > selected the thinkpad option, it was the bottom of the two.
I also had to manually turn the tablet back on after the first reboot, but it went fine after that.

Btw, I managed to install all the Google services and all is working well! The only thing is that the OS can only be put in English. All other languages are Chinese variants.

Hey Guys,
Brand new to XDA and new to messing with my phone in anyway, I looked through some threads, but am not sure if I can mess something up worse by not following the right steps,
I basically bought a used phone on craigslist, AT&T LG G FLEX 2 - LG-H950 and when I factory reset it, many of the default apps are not installed, cannot use my calendar and the phone is just a little off all together.
Not sure if the phone is still rooted or if the factory reset cleared it, and I am all together worried that the only reason the kid sold it to me was because he messed it up and couldn't fix it and just pawned it off to my dumas
I know its frowned upon to start new threads when the answers are out there, but i need this for work ASAP and if I screw it up and cant use it all Ill have to go back to my work iPhone (last resort, i hate it)
I started to follow hyelton's video http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
but got cold feet when i couldnt find my exact model the h950
It is currently on the android 5.0.1 and when i tried the update before i reset it, it said i couldn't update it something about the root. So i reset it and everything is the same as when I bought it on CraigList.
How do I get it back to square one, like it came in the box. I am interested in learning how to root and be in control of my own property, but I just want to get back to the start safely without bricking it so I can follow the forums and not feel so helpless.
im sorry if the first response to this just point me to another thread, but I will appreciate even that much guidance so at least i know i am headed in the right direction
Thanks a lot xda community

Factory reset won't remove root BTW. Recent Android phones seem to perform an integrity check prior to updating that fails when root is present.

Just read that to get the phone back to stock, then you'll be able to upgrade to 11x (5.1.1) and eventually 11z.

cool, thanks, one more question
I made an account with MEGA
downloaded the Flex2Tool 1.4.1 and unzipped
downloaded the system.img.gz
Started watching your video. however i am not bricked.
it has missing default apps and it says this device is suspected in rooting, software update is not available for rooted device.
so what is my first step after downloading these files. do i connect phone to my computer and open up the flex2tool and
select variant 1 which is H950 v10d etc
then do I select 1 , ( i do not need anything on the phone.)
or move straight to variant 2. restore unroot stock system.
if i do that next where do I put the system.img.gz file on my phone. anywhere in the internal memory and before or after I reset it?
sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help. i am very new to doing anything besides calling or texting on my phone

1. You first need the LG USB drivers for the Flex to be installed
2. The system image file (gz) will have a .img file inside that's about 4GB, so unzip the one you downloaded with 7zip, preferably from a PC. Put the .img file on the root of the phone's internal memory before proceeding. You'll also want USB debugging enable and disable the verify over USB option
3. Once file is on phone you can continue with the tool, it will eventually go into download mode & show ## when finished

okay i did that but
I dont understand your last thing >>>>"You'll also want USB debugging enable and disable the verify over USB option"
when i have my usb connected the phone gives three options
1.Charge Phone
via usb
2.Media Sync (MTP)
3.Send images (PTP)
When restarting the recovery tool after img. has been installed to root of internal storage. do i just start program or do i need to turn off phone or reset it or just run it with the MTP

Like that. Check that the USB debugging icon shows in the notification area while USB is connected as MTP. Then you can start the tool. Be sure that the .img is present on the root(sdcard0) prior to letting the tool reboot the phone.

Probably a good idea. I think the previous owner was trying to delete some of the bloatware and didn't properly restore the phone before selling it, not sure if that was done purposely or not.

.gz like .rar or .zip are different types of compression, so download the latest version of winrar or use 7zip, you need the system.img file (4gb)

finally did it. Thanks alot you and ace were a life saver
I'm trying to get rid of the ad-ware/bloatware that seems to stay even when I do a hard reset.
It's not that great of a phone (it was free after rebate at Kmart, after all...), but if someone could help me at least get rid of the annoying pop-up ads, that'd be *great*.
Maybe rooting it would help?
I don't understand how "Cleaner Pro", "AB Pop!", "DU Antivirus", "Eat24 Yelp", "Magzter", "Spider", "Summoners War", etc. keep getting installed. I'm trying to use it as an "Alfred" webcam, and not only do all of these apps slow it down a lot, but it becomes unusable.
Bump?

You will have to root the device, then you can either remove bloatware and use ad blockers or you can flash a custom ROM if any exist for your model number.

Thanks for the reply.
Any tips on how to root it?
Is there a simple way (RootKing?) or do I need to take more advanced steps?

Honestly, the simplest thing would be to do a Google search for:
"How to root (your model number)"
Of there is a known working root method for your device, that will find it, if you get no good results you'll have to try the various universal rooting PC tools and/or the various universal rooting apps.

If I Google "how to root X1 Logic", it shows me "Obama phones" that have different menus than mine.
Edit: it still has Android 4.2.2, by the way.

Is X1 Logic your device name or is it your model number, to find your model number go to system settings>about>model number.
That is where model number usually is in settings on most devices, it may be in a different setting location on your device. Find the model number and use that to do your searches.

Yes:
Settings > About phone > Model number: LOGIC X1
Settings > About phone > Build number: LOGIC X120140930
I recently bought a cheap candy bar phone (MobiWire Sakari), for nostalgic purposes mostly, and learnt it ran a simplified version of android 4.4.2.
It meant no developer mode, no playstore and no settings past personalisation (tapping build number in the 'about' section does nothing).
It has facebook lite installed and has the option to install WhatsApp. It does this by downloading a special version off the WhatsApp website and allowing you to install it. When you try download and install other apps, it comes up with an error saying it can't be installed (I've tried many).
I understand that a lot of apps won't work, being a 2.4" keypad phone, but there are apps available to make the keypad experience more enjoyable - as you currently have to tap the keys a few times for each letter (I did say I wanted nostalgia, but T9 would be nice). Not to mention, it would simply be great to have a nostalgic experience with an up-to-date OS (at a dirt cheap price).
Anyone have any idea of how to root the device, enable app installation (the 'install from unknown sources' option is not available in the settings), or extract some of the code from the working WhatsApp apk and insert it into other apks (appologies if it doesn't work like that, I'm a noob in the developer world).
As I said, I can't enable USB debugging for any ADB installations. I can get into the factory recovery mode and can access ADB update but this doesn't help me as ADB install can't work.
Thanks for reading and any help would be great.

Can you post a screenshot of the about screen?

Probably won't work, installing other apps requires having a proper "package installer" like other android devices that can install apps. By your description, installation of apps on that device doesn't work the same as for other android devices.
You can attempt to adb sideload, if the device has a sideload option in recovery.

It has some form of package installer as it installs Whatsapp when you first turn on the device. When you try install a different apk, it seems to start the package installer but stops when it doesn't recognise the apk file. I bought another device with a different build number, enabling me to enter developer mode and installed apps using this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76141643&postcount=23

I can enter stock recovery, however, adb sideload is only able to install update.zip files. Or is there a method of installing apk files as well through the "apply update from ADB" method? Or is there usually another option showing to be able to adb sideload an apk file? Here is someones post showing the stock recovery https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76105681&postcount=13
Thanks for your help.

There was no resolution in that thread at the time so I asked another question with more detail. There still is no resolution for devices which cannot access developer mode.

"Sakari" does not exist in XDA as a device unfortunately.

Is this possible given my circumstances?

I didn't say to use the name Sakari to search XDA, I meant for you to use it in Google searches.
You don't have a sideload method. I doubt you'll be able install apps. The facebook lite and Whatsapp that you installed are probably built just so it could be used on that device. You'd have to try modifying other apps in the same manner that these two were modified in order for them to work on that device.
All in all, WAY more trouble than its worth. The device probably wouldn't perform well with those apps installed, even if you "could" get them to install.
