Scratches by charging port out of the box TWICE. Anybody else? - Huawei P30 Questions & Answers

My replacement P30 just turned up from amazon and just like the first it has a scratch next to the charging port. Nothing major but not what I’d expect brand new out of the box.
Anybody else seen this on theirs?

I got two p30s huawei and all of them have scratches right out of the box.
Yes I did. Even worse I did it twice. I returned one of the P 30s and thought it could be just once and I bought one more on another site. The second one has also scratches on the metal frame and also on its back. I can return it again but I am tired of sending and getting it back and though I am not sure I am planning to keep using it that way. The attitude of huawei service in Turkey was not helpful at all also a bit annoying. I was a freak of Huawei products but after such an indifferent attitude I cannot stop thinking maybe it is high time I changed into Samsung ones. I believe most probably the third box I will unbox will have the same issue even the worse one. I regret buying a huawei phone fir the first time. Huawei must take the responsibility of his manufacturing faults and replace them rather than cost its customers the fault. I am awfully disappointed. The service of such a big world famous tech giant must be more understanding.

My guess is you guys got refurbs, especially from Amazon

I Got two of p30s. One from Amazon one from another site. Both turned out to be have little defects.

But there was no information that it was refurbished on Amazon. How is it possible that it is refurbished one? When I unpacked it it had plastic sticker on it and looked brand New but I guess little faults were not noticed during the quality control process and packed.

You can partially blame Huawei for not using a rubber / plastic band around their USB ports for that, similar to what Samsung implements.
A factory sealed Huawei box also doesn't have those security labels on the bottom like some sellers use.

I used mate 10 lite and mate 10 pro. In comparison with those two, the build quality of p30 is much lower. The back is too easy to get scratches like gilds even in a high quality Tpu silicone case. Maybe because gorilla glass was not used on its back and front. My mate 10 pro mocha Brown stills looks brand new after two years.

Anyone bought the bamboo back plate from AliExpress?

Title says it all.
No I didn't know they already had them? Surely they're after market and not official?
I might buy one

Thanks looks awesome for $60 for a case or cover is way too much especially when bamboo is a really cheap material
oneplus return their official "first bamboo covers" because the wanted quality is not present... don't buy this there are not good quality
what brunsman said...oneplus pulled the bamboo covers because of a quality problem...these are most probably those so i would not buy them if i were you...will be a big waste of $60...or they could just be dodgy chinese knock offs which will be even worse....visit the oneplus forum for confirmation
Better wait until official release
Since the bamboo swapstyle covers were canceled I ordered one for £39 yesterday. Its expensive but I justified it because I sold my invites for £40 so I'm not losing out. Apparently the seller takes 60 days to process and then another week or so to airmail. I'm hoping they will actually ship earlier and this is just incase.
I believe it's taking them 60 days to process because they are waiting for oneplus to make the covers and they planned on reselling...since they are not making them there is no cover to be shipped.

60 day process on AliExpress means you have 60 days of refund. Once you're past that 60 day process duration you cannot refund.
I ordered one and put it on Express shipping, let's see how it goes.

Actually that's what they say. Being in Hong Kong/China I can assure you that they released OnePlus One models built in with the bamboo back. Quality is superb and not bad quality, in fact it's perfect and doesn't have any issues.
Second quote: Pure speculation, yes obviously you can feel suspicious, but you can't raise a fully unbiased opinion without actually having experience with one. I on the other hand have played with the Official Bamboo OnePlus and can say that no doubt it is exactly the same. The labels at the back of the phone are also removable as they are printed on a sticker, not on the wood - which is exactly the same print as the Color OS model's labels.
I'll say that I bought one and will post on here when I obtain it and fit it on my device. Peace out!
Who needs other covers when Sandstone Black is this niiice......
Actually my biggest issue is how to protect the damn thing. I want to keep feeling the wonderful back, yet keep it protected. Is there a case that only covers the edges or something?
So, anyone have ordered and received (and tried) the one sold on Aliexpress??

White patches on screen

I've had my phone for less than 2 months and some small white patches have appeared on the screen. It's as though the battery is pushing the back of the screen. They're only visible when there's a white background. Does anyone else have this or know a fix? I'm guessing it's a hardware problem so I'll have to go through Huawei's exchange procedure which I'm not looking forward to.
Attached is a picture of the problem, although it's not my phone.
I have this issue too, is not a really big deal but is very annoing in a high class phone...
Same here. A bit annoying and largely visible on a white background. I'm starting to think that this phone is not a high class phone other that the price. Too many faults starting to occur...

In the mean time I rang huawei and they won't repair it they said its a Asia device not UK which I'm a bit confused as my device was sealed with a 3 pin uk plug so I presumed it will have UK warrenty. Well I think I'll cut my loses and sell it soon with or without repairing it and go for a device with better warranty support.

Yup i have the same problem with my phone as well. i started noticing them after 2 months of use. I will take my phone to the repair centre and see what the problem may be.
Could you please let us know what they think of it and mostly does the warranty apply here.
I'm going abroad for 2 weeks so I'll get in touch with them when I get back.
Ok. I might take this phone back to the shop where I bought it and let them worry about it. It's a pity because after flashing to lollipop it's so good...

Keep us updated :good:
Got a reply (emailed them yesterday with picture of the white spots) from local Huawei service about the white marks and it seems that they will fix the screen within the warranty. I'll take the phone there tomorrow...but as usual it will take week or so to come back... so fingers crossed
Hi,
I face the same problem on my Mate 7 on end of december (i have it in the begenning of november) send it to repair (4 weeks) it change the phone completly (it also stuck at bootloader).
Two month after this the same problem happen again, I send it again (4 weeks) this time he have change the screen only.
I think the size of the screen (and surely the building quality of this phone) make it really sensitive to light pressure (in a pocket etc...).
I cross fingers to don't have this problem again.
Sold mine couldn't cope with it no more, I couldn't get warranty on it here in the UK as apparently mine was for Asia.

Surprisingly, although a new phone, same LTE problem, doesn't occur as often as in the old one but still there. Installed lollipop beta and the problem's gone.

What is the difference btw M7 and P8 ?
Not a great deal, bit quicker, much better camera, better build , very slim, nicer screen, 3gb ram standard, I love my p8 its size is nice but if they could just sqeeze in a 5.5" not 5.2 it would be 10/10 from me but instead its a 8/10 as battery isn't too great

Help for contents and box of "new" S4 Black Edition i9505. Is it new or refurbished?

Help for contents and box of "new" S4 Black Edition i9505. Is it new or refurbished?
Hi,
I've just bought online in UK a brand new Samsung S4 Black Edition i9505.
However in the box S/M/L sizes eargels are missing (but earbuds are ok and sealed) and the UK charger is a ETA0U70XBE with only 1A output instead of 2A and it's missing its film wrapping. I also noticed that the small seal was not well applied outside the box so it's not clear if the box was sealed or unsealed. I've also found finger prints on the front sticker/screen protector (but not on the screen) and on the camera lens. The metal-plastic terminal of the usb cable is also a little dirty (but comes with plastic wrapping).
OS installed is already 5.0.1 but I thought that S4 comes with 4.4 preinstalled. Or maybe it is due it was assembled recently? Battery was also completely empty.
And I also found this sticker that seal the outside of the box with strange letters: A, B ,C (see attachment). What do they mean?
I would like to know if someone else has similar experience or maybe they sent me a refurbished/open box?
It probably is a refurbished or returned phone.
The box should contain the phone, the USB charger and USB cable (black), in-ear headphones with replacement buds, a manual and I think that's it.
If the box has been tampered with, then I would worry more about the phone itself than the contents.
I also have a black edition (or so it says on the box).
Mine's got a leather-like back cover and the whole phone is pure dark black. The original model had a brighter black tone and it was spotted.
Hi,
thanks for the answer. The only thing missing are the replacement buds but also rest is suspicious as written above.
The charger for example had no plastic wrapping but most of all it's only a 1 amp model. How many amps has your charger? Which model? An EU model (long and slim) or a UK model (bulkier and short)? See attachments. Mine is a UK model but looks like an S3 charger which is slightly different from S4 charger and has only 1 amp output. Does anyone else got a 1 amp charger with its S4???
Mine's a 2.0 Amp EU model, black. It also had wrapping around it.
Did you get any warranty with the phone?

The seller said it has 2 year UK/European warranty but it had to say this because he's selling them as new. Of course I had the invoice but it's just a piece of paper printed from internet.
I found a new strange thing: as you can see in the first picture there is a EAN code on the sticker. I searched that code on Google and the result was: Samsung S2 (TWO!).
Does the EAN on your box match with Samsung S4 on Google?
I can't check because my box was sealed on 3 sides, and one of those seals had the number on it and it is now torn apart.
But I don't have any reason to believe it would correspond to anything other than an S4.
The phone was bought from one of the biggest electronics store in my country.

I checked some pictures of S4 boxes that I found on Youtube, reviews, Google and all the EAN on them match the ones of a S4! So probably the second seal (the one in the attachment of my first message) is a FAKE seal!!!
I found another strange thing: the protective plastic on the front of the S4 was the colored one of S4 white and black mist (see attachment). But on unboxing video on Youtube the Black Edition always have a transparent one!
Which one did you find?
I think that A,B,C has some mean to it.
A- IMEI remains on the box
B- Seller(Vender) keeps it with them so that non can complain whether or not it was steal product,in short security reason
C- Buyer get it stocked on warranty card/ Billl to claim for warranty.
Now that phone is old, it usually stays as was. Nothing to worry about as long as device is fully functional.

Thanks for the answer. But another problem with the seal was that there was printed a EAN of a Samsung S2 (TWO!) instead of one of a S4. So it was clearly a fake seal. And I've never saw in any unboxing photo or video a seal like that for Samsung S4. I also contacted Samsung UK which confirmed me that the phone was not in proper condition. They also checked the serial number of the device and told me that it was invalid! So it was a refurbished unit.
However I sent the phone back to the seller and received a full refund. Last week I bought a new S4 Black Mist from another seller and this one is perfect. New, sealed (seal with a S4 EAN on it) and with all accessories and plastic wrappings. The OS installed is still Android 4 as expected and not already 5. And a 2A charger. It works very well. :good:
How much did you pay? If it was a good price then ignore the fact it's not new. My S4 was second hand, and I specifically chose it for that reason.

I paid it 267 euro with shipping. Too much for a used one with missing parts and the wrong charger (only 1A instead of 2A). So I sent it back to the seller.
For the one I bought last week I paid 275 euro with shipping but it's new and sealed (with all accessories and a 2A charger which 2 times faster than a 1A one).

Oh wow, yes that is a lot for a used one. I paid £120 for mine last February. It's in pretty good condition (only a few marks on the silver bezel, no scratches on the screen) but it came only with a single generic charger, and a crappy USB cable. No headset or anything, but I wasn't overly bothered because the phone itself is where the money goes and £120 for an S4 is a bargain, even today. 267 Euro's is over £205, which is absolutely top money, even for a brand new model, so to be told it was used, I would be sending it back tbh.

And most of all the seller was selling it as "new". I even emailed him before buying to be sure and he answered it was new and sealed... And the one he sent me had missing parts and a S3 charger (with only 1A output)!
Anyway 275 euro for the one I bought last week from a different seller is a good price for a really new and sealed S4. It is still a very good mid-range device. I was also considering a Samsung A3-310-2016 which came out in January this year for 240 euro with shipping but the S4 has still better specs and a huge XDA and custom rom support!

It's an extremely good mid-range device. The way I like to look at it, is like this:
You can see from my phone history (in my signature), that I go from an i9000 to an LG N4 to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, which is quite a deviation. The i9000 was a premium device at the time and it felt like one. The N4 was a premium device and it really really felt like one (and still does to this day). The Xiaomi was a great phone, but you could tell it was manufactured for the Indian market. It wasn't that it was cheaply made. I actually think Xiaomi are quite nicely made, it was the fact there was never any commitment to updates. Getting Lollipop was a bit like playing a game of roulette. Are they going to get it? Who knows? Kind of thing..... eventually some devs ported it, but rather than the 100's that work on Samsung and the Nexus devices, there were a few kids in their bedrooms doing it. I simply didn't have time to get stuck into any ROM development at that point in time either. The Xiaomi was let down by the lack of devs, the poor camera and the general unreliability of updates and software fixes etc.
So here's the point I'm making. You can own a brand new Xiaomi, which for the money seems decent and performs okay and stuff and yeah, they're decent enough phones, if you're going for a new model....
OR, you can get yourself a second hand S4, which will blow away the majority of Xiaomi phones because here's the thing. It's not just about specs on paper. The camera destroys the Xiaomi camera's, the screen destroys the majority of Xiaomi screens and the fact there are 100's of devs knocking out great ROM's means this phone will last a lot longer than the Xiaomi ones ever will.
My modus operandi has now changed. I will never buy a new device again. Every 2 years, I will buy a last gen Samsung (or other brand) device when they become cheap and enjoy all the benefits of XDA devs and what not

Where to buy Accessories?

Hello guys,
I'm thinking of buying the phone, it seems to be a good deal. but little worried about overall support.
also could not find any accessories like screen protectors or cases or skins.
Are there anything made for this phone yet?
Also is it possible to use case and screen protectors made for other phones (similar size/design).
Please share your experience.
Thanks.
Hi,
i had the phone for more than 2 months now, and my experience with it is so good so far and i'm happy with it, for me mainly is for quick updates
i receive security updates monthly, and android n will be received on time i hope
battery is good (almost 4 hours of screen on)
screen is good
sound is loud
headphones are perfect (same shape and i think same as LG V10)
charging is fast
usb-c converter is included, which make it easier since usb-c is not spread well yet
camera is good for me, probably not for pros
flash with selfie camera is nice
texture is nice and the shape overall is good
there are some little hiccups in the system every now and then
the only problem i couldn't find explanation for yet, is when i play heavy games (asphalt 8 or so) wifi stop seeing the network, so i play it on 3g. this is the only problem for me
processor is medium for gaming
other than that, if you're buying it for anything else (except gaming and camera) it's the best you can find for its price
overall review is 9/10
one problem my friend had with his phone, that the charge stops at 50%, the problem is not solved yet
don't know yet about service centers
for accessories there are a good number of different accessories for the mobilbe, at least through internet
Hello! I have the phone for one month now and I buy accessories at AliExpress. You can find decent prices for decent quality.
GM 5 plus accessories
what about buying original accessories? i bought several different c-type cables and chargers and none of them charged phone properly! charging taking too long and the battery runs off fast. with the original everything is opposite, fast charge and goes off slowly..but the problem is that you can't reach and buy the original accessories over the internet..only in the stores by going there, and a year has past that I have this phone and still nothing happened about this..great phone except the accessories reaching..
can you link me some cases, plz ?

Need to replace my cracked screen. Been looking on Ebay and I'm noticing the average price for screen+digitizer

With screens... You get what you pay for. I would highly suggest shopping around in the average price range that they are selling for. The nexus 6 screens are still around $140 to $150 and the phone is older. So it's a fair price.
Go too cheap, you get a crap product most times.

At the end of the day how do you truly know that anyone else doesn't source the screen from the same Chinese knockoff factory as just getting it directly from that same factory. There's another thread on sourcing batteries and it's the same problem. Claims of "oem" quickly disappear when you have product in hand....
What I WOULD like to know why the heck the 6p screens are so expensive. Even as eBay fakes or Aliexpress... The price hovers around $150
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Oh. We all know you won't get OEM. That's almost impossible. But... If it's less than let's say $125, I'll likely pass it up. (some circumstances may be involved to sway my decision) From my experience, cheap means cheap. I've always had better products going with products that sell for the average price or slightly above.
The reason they are expensive is because they are good products. Just because it's not OEM doesn't mean it's not good. Chinese doesn't mean bad product either. I wish people would drop that. They are one of the world's leaders in manufacturing technology. They can have decent stuff. And they do.
To touch on the battery thread. Most people shoot for those $10 batteries. Those are cheap and will perform like a cheap battery. But if you go for the ones in the mid 20s, you usually get much better quality and proper temperature sensing. Usually.
In the end, it's your choice. Are you willing to risk your device and possibly your safety by going the cheap route?and that's perfectly fine if you do. I've done it. Or are you willing to fork over a little more for a better chance at a more reliable products? I find that balance gives me the best results.

And this is from my experience as a phone repair technician. Just to be clear.

Just wanted to mention that Huawei is still doing screen replacements for $163.46 total. I bought a Nexus 6p with a smashed digitizer and bent aluminum frame and sent it in. They replaced the screen and digitizer and replaced the aluminum while they were at it! Turnaround from shipping to receiving was exactly one week.

You need to call or chat with Huawei tech support and tell them you need to buy a screen replacement. Once you give them the details, they send you an email and a link where you can purchase the service. Once that's all done, they send you a label and you're ready to go.
i bought a cheap 5X screen to replace mine on my old phone after water damage, it ended up ruining my cell signal, dont cheap out.

That sounds more like the water damage you had ruined your cell signal. A few connectors in your phone probably started corroding.
I bought this one yesterday:

I find it ridiculous that most other screens of similar size are under 100 bucks off ebay but ours average at $150. Regardless if it's off ebay or Aliexpress or Amazon

For what it's worth the Huawei tech I talked to said that Huawei doesn't sell the OEM screens to anyone else. It seems sending the phone into Huawei is the best way to ensure an OEM-quality screen is installed.

I bought mine from eBay , 95€ and I'm good. Just a warning. The new screen doesn't come with the vibration motor nor the volume and power buttons. Be careful when removing those , my volume down cable broke , so I had to replace it , but I already had everything glued in. Took it to a repair store and they fixed it for 30€ , so yeh , be careful. Buttons cost 3$ or so , but the backglass often shatters when removed , so 10 more dollars for the back glass , plus the shipping , turns out to be pretty expensive. Careful. Also top earpiece is tricky to remove , is sealed with glue and everything pops out but it has a copper cable in it, if that rip off , you messed up. Careful with usb board , it has some contacts underneath , you got to do it perfectly , otherwise , no charging.
Best of luck boy ! Tell me the results at the end !
