Another Load error. Computer won't recognize device. - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I have the same problem as many others have had, but most of those threads get fixed by sideloading OTAs or booting into recovery. I cant get adb to recognize my device. I have tried updating drivers, switched cables, different computers, deleting and re-downloading platform tools, etc. Is there something I'm missing, or is my phone completely dead? I don't believe it's the usb port, because when the phone is off and I plug in the cable, The screen flashes the charging symbol briefly and then turns on to the load error screen. My bootloader is unlocked and is on slot A. Thanks for any help you all can give.

[Q] Broken USB connection, possible brick

I have a NS i9020T which was running the latest MIUI ROM until I tried to update it to MIUI ICS. I had noticed, while running pre-ICS, that my computer wouldn't mount USB storage. As a working around (rather that trying to fix the issue) I just FTPed files. When I tried to install MIUI ICS something went wrong (probably corrupt ROM image) and now my NS won't boot.
If I go through Clockwork Recovery to mount USB mass storage, nothing happens. I'm running OS X, but I've tried mounting in Ubuntu 11 and Win7 -- Windows recognizes that there is a device there but the drivers won't recognize it (I think).
Finally, I've tried flashing a new recovery using fastboot but I get "<waiting for device>" in Terminal.
My best guess is that the USB connection is shot, which would probably require me ripping the NS open and tinkering around (which I have zero experience doing).
Does anyone have any ideas for fixing what is likely a permanent brick? I can boot into Win7, OS X, or Linux to troubleshoot. Also I'm on the XDA IRC as "threepape" right now trying to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance!
I was working with threepape on IRC trying to narrow down the issue.
Basically he's had his phone rooted, tried flashing a rom and now it's stuck at the boot screen. He went to connect to his computer and it gave him an error. and wouldn't let him connect his phone to the os. This is a problem.
So he then downloaded kies to see if it would install drivers automatically, downloaded odin and then tried to see if odin would recognize the phone. It did not and his computer gave him the error "unknown USB device, error code 43"
So we reviewed what we could control: trying different cords, checking drivers, etc.
Now we are going to try booting into an osx platform, installing heimdall and seeing if "heimdall detect" prompt will detect the phone. If that doesn't work we're going to either need more help or rule it out as a hardware issue.
<threepape>
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.
[8:55pm] <ddrt>
so you typed out heimdall, then heimdall detect and it came back with that?
[8:55pm] <ddrt>
and you are 100% it was in download mode?
[8:55pm] <threepape>
yep
[8:56pm] <threepape>
it does ay on my phonee "USB Control Init USB Control Init End"

edit: device is not being detected on multiple os using different programs, device will not wipe fully when doing a factory restore through CWM. I am at a loss.

[Q] XT926 issue - waiting for device

Phone: Droid Razr HD XT926, locked bootloader, was rooted, not sure now
Issue: OTAs had not worked for awhile, but I wanted to go to KitKat. So, I tried to use Matt's 1.41 utility. I may not have had the most up-to-date Motorola USB drivers when I started. The update did not work. Now, I just get the "Motorola Logo and Dual Core Technology text", but phone then goes black. I am able to get to AP fastboot screen, but all attempts to re-try Matt's 1.41 utility, or the House of Moto 4.1, or RSD Lite 6.2.4 are unsuccessful. All of them show <waiting for device>.
Any ideas why I can't get past <waiting for device>?
Fastboot screen:
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected
Assuming you've updated the drivers at this point, are using the stock usb cord and following all the details in the op to a T? Might try another USB port...

You are correct on those assumptions except the stock usb cord. The cord I am using was fine when I first started my adventure. USB debugging was on and plugging in the phone+cord caused PC to recognize the phone. But, now my PC does not even flinch when I plug the phone+cord into the USB port. Should the PC be flinching (recognizing the phone) when all are plugged in? If it is not, any recommended tricks to encourage PC and phone to play nice together?
I have tried two different ports. I will check documentation and verify they are 2.0. I will also see about finding a motorola OEM cable just to rule that out.
Thanks for the response!

- Motorola USB drivers I used (USB Driver.6.4.0.2014-10-24): [droidrzr website] /index.php/topic/57858-motorola-tools-rsd-lite-usb-driver/
I used to do a lot of flashing from various laptops to different phones with mixed results. Certainly strange when sometimes one works and the other does not. Hard to pinpoint why with so many variables. In your situation, working at one point then bam...

Update: Decided to give it another shot today. Went back to original cord (when I had success prior to bad flash). Booted to fastboot. Plugged into USB port. Today, my PC decided to try and recognize it! Windows failed once trying to find drivers for "Fastboot VANQUISH S". So, I decided to disconnect and try again. This time, drivers found! Fastboot screen changed to include the "usb connected" message below the "Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected" message.
Using House Of Moto, I was able to successfully flash 4.4.2 183.46.10. Phone is charging up now in preparation for rooting and unlocking.
Good news there!

Accidentally deleted my OS on Samsung Galaxy S7. Nothing works!

I have a rooted S7 with TWRP recovery on it and i recently deleted my OS by accident as i was just trying to reset my phone to factory settings. Now the only thing i can do is boot into recovery mode and download mode, or i can just get stuck at a boot loop.
I have googled and googled and seen so many ways to try and fix this issue but nothing has worked for me. Heres a list of the issues i have and what i've tried so far. [Using Windows 10]
Installing Odin (3.12.3) and stock Samsung firmware from here.
Installing the necessary USB drivers from here.
My PC wont recognize my samsung device in either modes (recovery/download) and Odin wont recognize my phone either, as well as i cant find anything under "Device Manager".
Tried using ADB to transfer files to my S7 but when i activate ADB in recovery mode it just loads for a couple of seconds until it displays an error with no explanation.
I even tried downloading ADB drivers and necessary tools i got from this guide.
I also tried wiping Dalvik cache and cache.
I have tried three different USB cables on all available USB slots on my desktop PC and the one USB slot in my Surface and nothing works.
I have tried rooting previous phones but I'm still new to this rooting thing and there's a lot i don*t understand. Perhaps i downloaded the wrong USB drivers, or maybe I'm just unlucky. I just really need some help to understand how to fix this. If it can't be fixed is it possible to remove all traces of rooting on my phone?
The phone needs to be in Download Mode to use ODIN
The only sign it is connected is a COM port lit up at the top of the ODIN window
Add the .MD5 ROM to AP and hit start

Could't switch roles: USB controlled by

Hi all, i'm trying to get Magisk to install, but seem to have a problem i can't find anything on.
I have read all the guides, read the whole tread on Magisk for our phone, without finding any solution.
I have tried 3 different cables, the one that came with the phone, a cable from my LG v30 and a third party really thick one.
All these cables have been tried on 3 different PCs, a HP G3 probook, a Surface Pro 3 and some kind of Dell desktop, all running updated versions of W10 home, pro and enterprise.
I have tried with samsungs usb drivers, all versions 1.5.51.0 and 1.5.63.0 on all PCs with all cables.
The obious fault here is Odin, 3.12.3, 3.13.1 and 3.13.1_patched (for S10). It's stuck on File Analysis.
So when i checked how its connected, while booted up and not in download mode, it says its using USB for transferring files, which works just fine, and shows up the correct way. Samsung SmartSwitch also works fine.
the problem seems to be the "USB controlled by" with the setting "Connected Device". all i get is the error: "Couldn't switch". I have reinstalled and wiped numerous times. Always the same result. OEM unlocking is on, dev tools are on etc etc.
Do anyone have anything other than what the guides tell you to try?
I had the same problem so it turns out that i didnt have windows media feature pack, because i installed N version of windows. it's free on microsoft website.
I'm in the same situation. Some time ago I needed this function to install a new rom from Samsung, the global one (mine was a carrier locked rom which tooked ages for update). So, now I need it again in order to use an app that needs an adb command via PC and I just can't make it work. I remember that time it worked after the permission showed up on screen, but now I'm not lucky. Hope U find it if still in need of it.

Phone unrecognized in download/recovery

So Ive just bought a brand new U12+, and obviously the very first thing I did was attempt to root it.
Main hiccup Im running into here is that my PC wont recognize the phone while its in recovery or fastboot/download mode.
If I had to guess, I think it's a driver issue, problem is I've been searching for hours now and cannot find the proper drivers for it to be recognized. (I've also tried every USB port on my PC, both 2.0 and 3.0.)
Ive tried using HTC sync, uninstalling it and leaving that driver, Ive tried letting windows auto install the driver, and I tried a generic android USB driver, none of which have seemed to work.
PC will recognize the phone while it's fully booted to OS, and I can even command it to reboot into recovery from there, but once its in recovery I lose connection.
Not sure how much of a difference this makes, but I bought a factory unlocked phone, still sealed, with all the plastic and accessories inside the box. But when I boot into download I get the message "Security checking failed DENY", this is only supposed to show up after the bootloader has been unlocked isn't it?
Anyways, if someone could point me in the right direction for these drivers it'd be greatly appreciated.

Strange suggestion but try a different pc. My phone isnt recognised when I try to install magisk on my phone on my home pc but it works on my work pc.
I got about 9 different USB ports on my home PC and none work
Also download platform-tools_r29.0.2-windows for fastboot etc.
While you're in troubleshooting mode, try another USB cable. I had issues running fastboot commands and the like when using a generic USB cable, but it worked fine using an OEM one. Can't hurt to rule that out too.

I am using the OEM cable, straight out the box. I'm gonna try meddling with it again when I get home and see if I can get it working.
