Now first off, this Magisk image would technically not work due to the small issue that the LG Phoenix 2's bootloader can't be unlocked. However, you could still, if you somehow manage to force a bootloader unlock and get into fastboot mode, flash this boot.img file and achieve Magisk root. The files needed (excluding adb) are below in a .rar file, sadly I cannot give you a guide on how to flash this image file, as I cannot access fastboot, and I have mostly stopped using my Phoenix 2. If you manage to get Magisk working on the Phoenix 2, post below!
Root files on MediaFire (will be reuploaded on AFH when possible)
Judging by the lack of replies I'm guessing no one else got root either :\
Hi,
I see there are no replies for this thread, quite old thread. I still have this phone but I retired it so I looked recently how this can be rooted.
I want to ask you how did you read the boot.img that you attached to the link? Or did you extract it from a firmware?
One idea how you might write patched boot back to the phone is using QFIL app. I did not try it, but I guess it should be possible to put the phone in Download mode and use QFIL with it. I will look into it when I have some time.

I bought this phone in aliexpress and i'm pretty satisfied so far. Except by the fact that it's a totally obscure phone. You can't even find cases for it.
Anyway, the real problem is the lack of root methods. I tried all the root apks out there without success, and there is no known way to unlock the boot loader.
So, as a last effort, i'm trying to find someone that maybe managed to root this phone and could share the knowlege with us. Or at least find some other Gome U7 owners to share this frustation.
Thank you!

From the Aliexpress listing I found, this is MTK6757CD Android 7.1 Nougat. It shouldn't be so difficult to root.
Have you been able to backup / dump the firmware?
Yes, thats the model!.
About the backup, i don't tried it yet, but i supose i can via ADB comands.
The problem is that none of the root apks work, and i can't try to install a root script via the default recovery.
Holy fuc...king cow! I did it!
The dificulty of finding the files for this phone made this task much dificult than it shoul be, but anyway, for the possible people that come accros this thread, that's how i did it:
download the mtk drivers here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/jbxsq68g8dd4gk6/MTK_USB_All_v1.0.8.zip
download the stock rom here: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/8hMx/N7fqf8X62
Put the stock rom's boot.img on your phone;
Install the magisk apk, click install, and then use the patch boot.img function;
Select the boot.img from the stock rom;
After the patch, replace the patched version with the original version on the rom folder on your PC;
Use the SP flash tool to flash it.
And that's it!
I can't believe it took me four days to figure this out hahaha
Anyway, i hope it helps someone. Have a great day.
Edit: unfortunately the bootloader is still locked, so i can't flash magisk modules. Is there a way to use root privelege to unlock it?
@SkynyrdZ The Link you provided for the stock ROM is for USB drivers.
Possible to link to a western Gome U7 stock rom with playstore on?

Is that the only stock ROM out there?
I know it's a chinese phone but it originally had western stock ROM when arrived - As in playstore was available on it. Chinese version is very stubborn in trying to install western apps - Playstore for one does not open when you install via alt options.

I didn't really flash it, i just used the bootloader file on it for the root process. My device came with the stock android rom, with gapps pre-installed.
But as far as i know, you can have play store on any android. Just make sure you install google play services alongside.

I didn't try it because it seens fake to me. Also, the bootloader on this phone is locked, so fastboot comands didn't work when i tried. The only way i could flash anything was with SPtool.
But there's a group out there called twrp builder that compiles the twrp recovery to a lot of devices. I'm trying to put the gome u7 on their queue, but right now, they are busy with a lot of builds.
TWRP recovery for root with magisk from 4PDA Forum.

As you said the bootloader can not unlock why it need TWRP for?
The phone bootloader can lock and unlock as will.
Phone in fastboot mode: ADB command "fastboot oem unlock" then Push Vol+ on the phone to confirm unlock.
But I got the boot loop to TWRP every reboot after following steps to root the phone.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (twrp down load at https://unofficialtwrp.com/gome-u7-twrp-3-2-root/)
Boot to recovery ( this Twrp won't save the language which selected)
Format Data
Reboot to recovery again.
Install magisk
install No verity opt encrypt.zip.
wipe Caches/Davik...
reboot to system but it boot loop to recovery (twrp).
I have to reinstall original recovery.img and lock bootloader in order for my phone to boot normal again. After the phone boot up , install magisk.apk manager to get root.
Try to flash patched boot & twrp recovery image inside rar file with SP flash tool v5.1844.00.00 use their scatter file.
Wow, my device just could'nt comunicate with the adb via fastboot. I selcted the OEM unlock on the phone and inatalled the mtk drivers.
What i did wrong?
Also, you said that you had to install the stock recovery to the phone boot again, so you dont have twrp on the phone?

I am looking to learn how to extract a boot image to patch. The last source for patched boot images has not updated since 9.5.10. I would like to be less dependent and be able to do it on my own.
Can someone put together a quick tutorial on how to extract a boot.img so I can run it though Magisk and create a patched one?

1)Download payload dumper.
2)Extract payload file from rom zip.
3)Put payload file in payload_input folder.
4)Run exe file.
5)After process complete check payload_output folder. All extracted there.
Download payload dumper from here :- https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4760222&d=1558078935
Patched boot images are irrelevant and only necessary for devices without a working TWRP recovery. If you want to root, either boot TWRP once or boot and install TWRP (recommended) and then install the magisk zip from there.

How do you extract the boot.img from the phone? I have the tmo version and would like to say on the stock room with root.
Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
You need root to extract a partition, but if you have root then you have no need for it except to share it so someone else can get root.
In other words are you rooted already? If not, you'll need to use the other instructions or get a rooted or non rooted image from someone with a T-Mobile phone.
I'm going to guess you could fastboot boot boot.img to any rooted boot image for the one plus 7 pro, have root and then install magisk.

Not rooted yet, but everything I have read so far is that you need a patched boot.img to root, or you can create one from the boot.img in an oos package with magisk manager. The problem is, there isn't a tmo oos package out there yet, so it looks like rooting the tmo software isn't possible at the moment. Is this correct?

Is your bootloader unlocked? That would be step one. Read up on the thread for that.
Not yet, but will be....trying to get my research done before I go for it... don't want to mess it up, been a few years since I rooted a phone.

All of the similar threads just end after a few replies (I think because people didn't have unlocked bootloaders) so I thought I'd try to ask again. I have a T-Mo OP8 (IN2017) on 10.5.22IN55CB. I already have the bootloader unlocked. But all of the root methods I can find need a payload.bin from the stock firmware, and I can't seem to find that. Is there another method or a source for branded firmware? I wasn't sure if I could do it by just booting the TWRP found on this board without flashing the recovery.
TIA.

I booted into TWRP and took a backup of the device. I then transferred the backup to my local PC and took the boot file from the backup, renaming the extension to .img. I then put this boot image on my device and downloaded magisk manager and set magisk manager to install magisk by patching a file. Once completed, I downloaded the patched file to my PC and booted to fastboot. While in fastboot, I flashed the magisk_patched boot image to both boot slots (boot_a, and boot_b). Upon rebooting, I had root. One thing, as soon as you have root, I recommend taking an image of your persist file (for fingerprint) to prevent any issues if the persist partition gets corrupted on your device. Search the forum for instructions on how to do this.
Cheers,
B.D.
You literally don't have to do anything special. Boot TWRP, flash Magisk zip in TWRP, reboot. Done.

I should state one thing that I didn't in my original post. Booting TWRP and flashing that way ONLY works if you are still running Android 10. Since you have a T-Mobile variant, I knew this was a non-issue (we STILL don't have official A11). For those running Android 11, you do have to patch the boot image and flash it like stated above. Also note that this will likely change if we get TWRP on A11. Once we have that working, flashing Magisk from it should work fine.

Following up on this just in case you know anything new. My IN2017 just updated to A11 without any action on my part, and I lost root. Is there a TWRP or patched boot img that you know of for us on TMo now?
There is no working twrp for us on Android 11. I also haven't seen a patched boot image of 11.0.1.3.IN55CB around yet. I have that firmware extracted on my laptop so I could grab the boot image and patch it for you, but I won't be able to do that until later tomorrow. If no one else has it out or if you don't find it before I can get to it, I'll post it up.
Edit: Here's the patched boot image: Magisk Patched Boot IMG TMO 11.0.1.3
Hello All. I'm really struggling with this phone. Note: I don't have a PC so I had to use my roommates computer to unlock this and get it to the point it is now. It took me DAYS to do so.
I've been rooting androids since the G1, so I'm not a novice at this. This process has so far been the most complicated I've encountered and the most risky since I ended up bricking an LG V20.
This is an excellent value phone, but dagnabbit if it isn't a clufusterfoozle to get rooted and modded.
Anyway here is where I'm at:
1. Phone is unlocked via MIUI Unlock.
2. Phone has custom MIUI EU mod. Don't know the exact name of it.
Those are what I believe has been taken care of for sure.
Here are my issues:
1. Phone is unrooted: I've tried to root with magisk countless times. The Magisk Manager gives me a weird screen that it doesn't show on other phones. My magisk manager always shows me this:
New item by Troy Fergus
photos.app.goo.gl
2. Root checks fail every time. To add insult to injury safety check consistently fails as well: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6k5mMBysYB2LECoq9
Because of the above issues, I can't install Root necessary apps such as TItanium backup. This dramatically lessens the value of the phone to me.
4. Decryption fails as well. THis
SELECT THE boot.img from zip file of the rom and patch it using magisk application then flash boot.img patched one into the rom using fastboot by this command
fastboot flash boot boot.img( or whatever the name of boot.img is)

My IN2015 is on Oxygen OS 11.0.2.2.IN21AA and am having issues successfully rooting. I have tried multiple different tutorials, but thus far no go. Here are some notes on what I have done/tried so far.
USA
The IN2015 is carrier unlocked - I am using it on T-Mobile
My PC is on Windows 10
No problems installing adb/fastboot on the PC
Android 11
Unlocking the bootloader was not a problem and it remains unlocked. - Ok
I downloaded and unpacked the same firmware from OP and put the payload.bin file in the payload dumper and extracted the .img file.
I copied that .img file to the phone and patched it with Magisk (says All Done) w/o error.
I copied the patched .img file back to the PC.
I flashed the patched image to both a and b slots. No errors and says ok, but the time is much shorter than the video tutorials I've followed. e.g. 0.25s total vs 1.25s total. I know it's only a second, but that's an eternity in computing time. It makes me think this is where it fails.
After flashing the boot images, rebooting is successful.
But when rebooted and I go back into Magisk it says: N/A under installed.
It's interesting that Magisk says Latest: 20.4 (20400) when on the most recent tutorial it changes to 21.1 thereafter.
Manager version is 8.0.3 (314) and is installed.
Root Checker says Root access is not properly installed.
I have tried this more than a few times already with the same result. My next idea is to try and take a different image, but the You Tube tutorial is from India, so I am uncertain if using an Indian .img or even a global .img is a problem here in the US.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Many tutorials are out of date now.
Thank you,

SD card? But the OP8 doesn't have a slot for one, no? I put an apex folder in the root of the internal storage but it's the same result.
Rooting was much easier on the OP6T with TWRP, but I guess that's still not supported on 11 yet.
Maybe I should try a global image.
Let me see if I can attach a few screencaps.
You are right, the internal memory. The commands are correct and it looks like no problems. I'm not sure what you mean when you say try a global image? I did the same thing you did but I'm rooted in 11.0.2.2.21AA from TMO. I pulled the OTA then placed on computer, extracted the boot image. Then I patched with magisk and ran it through fastboot. Wait, the only thing I did was got into bootloader mode. After getting into fastboot then I booted into bootloader and ran the commands.
Well, it turns out that I needed to switch to the Beta channel in Magisk (21.1) as it was still trying to patch it with an old version of Magisk (20.4), which clearly didn't work on Android 11.
It's rooted now. Thanks for your help!
