Honor 6X - Can't flash recovery - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hello
I have a Honor 6X running EMUI 5.0.3 and BLN-L21C432B382. I unlocked my bootloader a long time ago using Huawei code.
Unfortunately, I can't flash the recovery anymore (I don't know why TWRP is not available anymore, I might have done something wrong), indeed, when I restart into fastboot mode, frp is unlock but phone is locked and when I run the flash command, I get the following error:
Code:
sudo fastboot flash boot Downloads/twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
Sending 'boot' (24466 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.639s]
Writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
Finished. Total time: 0.706s
And it seems that the bootloader is locked:
Code:
sudo fastboot oem get-bootinfo
(bootloader) locked
OKAY [ 0.006s]
I have to say that I don't know what to do (I would like to install a newer version of Android on this phone).
Could you please help me
Thanks

Have you enabled OEM unlock in developer settings? And, how many time ago did ya unlocked the bootloader? In firmwares newer than a certain date (June 2018 if i don't remember bad) those geniuses at Huawei released builds that automatically relocked the bootloader (happened to me also), so you may have to unlock it again.
Anyway the correct command in fastboot is "fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery).img", not sudo flash boot because you'll end up flashing a recovery image to boot image, probably messing up stuff. Luckily this time your bootloader was locked, anyway pay attention because in Huawei's world it's easy to f**k up in a question of seconds!

Yes I enabled OEM Unlock in developer settings.
I think that you are right, I unlocked my bootloader a long time ago (probably 2 years ago). I read that Huawei does not deliver the code to unlock the bootloader anymore, is that right ? (I can't find my old code).
Regarding the command I ran, you're totally right, I tried first first fastboot flash recovery and as it was not working and wanted to make it work (.....) so I tried to run the flash on the boot (which was a pretty bad idea, I agree).
Thanks

Yeah if the unlock has been made 2 years ago, surely the bootloader is locked again now. Sadly yes, Huawei has stopped support about unlocking the bootloader last year, so unless you'll find it again you'll have to pay some third party service like DC-Phoenix/FunkyHuawei/ecc. to obtain it again.
And seriously, be careful about flashing one specific image to a different partition. This is an error that could lead to serious troubles in worst scenarios. Nothing hard to do dude, next time thank me with the dedicated button, it's there exactly for its purpose :highfive:

Does fastboot say "fastboot usb"?
What happens when you type fastboot devices? This should return your serial number.
Are you on Windows? Which version?

sorry it took so long for me to get back. so Yes it says "fastboot USB" . fastboot devices gives me HT38EWA03720 fastboot. I am on Windows 7
That's really strange.
Can you confirm the unlock token is in the same directory you're running your fastboot command from in command prompt? Can you post the output from the fastboot unlock command?
Hi
i have the same issue

OKAY [ 0.157s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...

Unlocking Bootloader: "command write failed" after most fastboot commands.

So 10 hours ago I decided I wanted to root my phone to install some apps and maybe even a cool ROM.
I read that the first step is to unlock the bootloader. I have trying my hardest to do this first step for 10 hours.
I've read 4-5 different tutorials twice on xda.
My phone is:
HTC One A9(hiae), bought in Sweden
hTc download mode
*** LOCKED ***
htc_hiaeuhl PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.000
[email protected]
OpenDSP-7.8.2.00197-8952_1228
OS-1.56.401.70
Jan 22 2016....
I have tried the normal way through htcdev.com even had the Unlock_code.bin at one point. But I had to reinstall all drivers twice to get it.
I have tried using the WinDroid Toolkit, no better than the manual way.
I got my hard earned token ID through both ways.
I find that every time I want to use fasstboot to send over a file i.e. "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" hTc download mode is stuck at Start download, like I need to confirm it but can't because the command failed. The same goes for the Unlock_code.bin, can't send it over.
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot devices
HT5AVBE04449 fastboot
C:\adb>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 0.003s
I can get past this next problem temporarily by reinstalling all drivers, tedious.
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 5.002s
Possible problems:
hTc download mode: I need to accept the download before fastboot give up, instant.
Win10: Bad OS for this?
USB connectors: Not enough power? Some other USB devices don't work here normally.
HTC Sync Manager: I've not bother installing the software.
Solution
I've made it;
I'm not sure if I was in the real download mode at the time, but that might have been it.
Also this time I redid everything, deleted all the drivers correctly and installed via Universal Naked Drivers
Hello,
Did you check OEM unlocking to allow the bootloader to be unlocked in Settings/Developper options (hidden by default, appears when you tap Build number 10x in Setting/About/ Software information/More/ Build number) ?

For my phone it is 8 taps and yes. Every time I start a new Android I do a OEM unlock.
But I might be correct to change USB connector.

Huawei Honor 6 H60-L12 bricked

Hello all
A friend of mine has a Huawei Honor 6 H60-L12.
He tried to do a firmware update and he bricked the phone.
I bought it and I am desperately trying to recover it.
Here is what I know about the phone:
It had Android 5.1.1
It had Emui 3.1 and was trying to upgrade to 4.0
(Probably was rooted)
It is H60-L12
No matter what I do, I cannot enter recovery mode with the 3 button trick.
I can anytime enter Fastboot mode.
I tried to unbrick it with HONOR Multi-Tool, everything seems to work alright, but flashing boot.img fails. After unbrick I should enter recovery mode but it does not work, phone remains stuck with the Honor logo.
Computer connects to phone in Fastboot mode, Multi-tool and fastboot command works, I also have the drivers installed.
I know that after bricking the rooted phone, I should restore it and remove root before upgrade but I cannot get there.
Please advise
Best regards,
Janos

Instead of using the honor multi tool, why don't you use the Android SDK platform tools and connect to your phone through adb. You can solve any problem using that. You have to do everything manually but it works and never disappoints as long as you can enter fastboot mode.
Download android SDK and install it. Run the program and only choose platform tools to download. You don't need anything else
Download the latest firmware for your phone and unzip it to get dload folder which will have an update.app in it.
Download Huawei update extractor and open update.app in it.
Extract recovery, boot, Cust and system images from update.app and save them to the platform tools folder.
Flash them using adb and then do a forced update.
Will work wonders. If you need any help or need more info, please let me know.
Hello muradulislam
First of all, thank you for trying to help me.
I tried something similar to your suggestion but I still have problems.
Let me explain.
My phone is H60-L12
Latest stable firmware which I found is this one:
H60-L02-L12_EMUI3.1_Android5.1_C00B535.zip
I extracted the boot, cust, recovery and system images with Huawei update extractor.
My device is detected in fastboot mode, fastboot devices gives me this result:
c:\adb>fastboot devices
F6CDU15117010953 fastboot
When I try to flash the boot.img, it gives me this error:
c:\adb>fastboot flash boot boot.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'boot' (10274 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.092s]
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: flash write failure)
finished. total time: 1.135s
I tried to continue with the rest but I think this is useless.
Please tell me what to do.

My expertise are quite limited but may be, just may be (wishful thinking), you can to flash the twrp recovery specific for your phone. Boot into that and flash a custom ROM from there.
It may not work as I guess, boot.img is needed before entering recovery but give it a try. It never hurts.
Come on, guys!
There must be somebody who can help me.
Guillermo, panamera2011 and muradulislam tried to help me and I want to thank you for their patience.
Problem is, that I am still missing something.
There are 2 weeks now, each day after work I try to revive this phone.
These are the facts I know:
Tried the programs on 4 different machines, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
Tried different sets of drivers (the one from Android SDK, the Universal ADB drivers, the ones installed by multi-tool)
Result is always the same.
I can flash anytime, any version of cust.img recovery.img and system.img but I can flash only the boot.img which is resulting from an EMUI2.3 or EMUI3.0 package.
If I try to flash boot.img from EMUI3.1 or EMUI4.0, I get the following error:
sending 'boot' (10274 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.103s]
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: flash write failure)

I tried flashing different stock or CWM or TWRP recoveries. They all are written correctly, but I cannot enter any recovery mode.
Someone advised me to try to flash fastboot.img. It is not working, gives error.
I have already many hours and maybe hundreds of firmware writes, I downloaded around 100 GB of firmwares....
There must be an idea how to save this phone.
I am open to any decent advice.
Best regards,
Janos

@DigiGoon
You can flash boot.img from emui 2.3 or 3.0? If its written correctly then may be you can try to boot into that emui version by flashing Cust, system and recovery from the same firmware?
Your last hope is Huawei customer service.
Yes, I can flash cust, recovery and system from the same EMUI2.3 or 3.0 package, but I am still unable to boot recovery.
Unfortunately, Huawei customer service will not help me because phone is H60-L12 (Chinese version) and they don't provide support only for L04

You can always put your desired boot.img in a flashable zip, and flash it via TWRP recovery.
Hi DigiGoon!
No, I cannot, because I was never able to access any kind of recovery

You can't mix LP and MM ROMs and IMG files. If you want to downgrade, for example, from MM to LP you must use B800 transitional package.
So you must use IMG files from last installed working ROM.

Hi zinko_pt
Thank you for your reply.
So this means that I should find out what version he flashed? He told me that flashing firmware went OK, but after reboot, phone wasn't starting anymore.

Sure. I would go from there as I sometimes mixed boot.img from LP or MM and always got bootloop. I would stick to IMG files from last installed ROM.

If it was Marshmallow, you have to flash transition package as zinko_pt said, otherwise you have to flash all the IMG files of Lollipop.
And after executing this command from fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot reboot
do you see notification LED light up?

Hi DigiGoon !
Sorry, which one is the flash transition package?
Which parts to flash from it?
Which is notification LED? I can see only one red LED blinking sometimes, but only when battery is low.

P.S. I just got new info from the guy who flashed it first time. He says he tried to write version:

Is there such thing as "not correctly unlocked" or "partially unlocked" bootloader?

I don't have the unlock code that's why I cannot try to relock it... And in this state I cannot get the necessary info to obtain the unlock code.
Anyway, when I tried to unlock with a bogus unlock code (1234567812345678), it gave me an error something like this:
Command failed, bootloader already unlocked.

Moto G3 (XT1543, osprey) stuck at fastboot screen

Dear people,
First of all, although dilligent and trying to do my homework, I am a total newbie regarding anything Android. Therefore, if I am posting on the wrong section of the site, please let me know and I will try my best to fix it.
That being said, I have a Moto G3 (Moto G 2015), model XT1543 (osprey), that is stuck in the fastboot boot. I have searched a lot of the web trying to find solutions and, after having failed all of them, decided to come here for assistance.
My device only boots and displays:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
version downgrade for recovery
failed to validate recovery image
ERROR: Failed to pass verification, backup to fastboot
Fastboot Reason: Fall-through from recovery boot mode
I already downloaded the appropriate TWRP recovery image for the device (osprey), but the bootloader is locked and, since I can't get into the system properly, I can't switch the "Unlock OEM boot" flag when the full system is running.
In particular, when I try to flash TWRP, this is what I get:
# fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-1-osprey.img
target reported max download size of 268435456 bytes
sending 'recovery' (7546 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.373s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.454s
Indeed, since I am only in fastboot mode, I went away and requested a boot unlock code from Motorola and trying to unlock the bootloader and this is what I get:
# fastboot oem unlock <my-code-here>
...
(bootloader) Check 'Allow OEM Unlock' in Developer Options.
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.034s
I already tried looking at similar questions in many, many forums and no answer actually applied to my device (including, for example, https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/help/moto-g3-struck-fastboot-screen-t3542147 and even others for other models and vendors).
Thanks in advance for any help.
At this point your only option to flash the same or newer factory image through fastboot. The is no way to unlock the bootloader without the OEM unlock in developer options checked, and with a locked bootloader you can't flash an older version. See the thread on flashing factory images.

OK. So, now, I know how to direct my energies and avoid useless efforts.
Thank you so very much, @riggerman0421. Now, to find which factory image was the one that was installed on this device (it is actually my father's device).
