[SM-G920I] Bootloop after flashing in Odin with "Nand Erase" ticked. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, yes, really I was just desperate. I've been trying to solve an issue with my phone for the last two days. I had Nexus OS 9.0 installed, all perfect, recovery is good, and everything.
I decided that I'd had enough of Nexus, it crashes a lot, sometimes it reboots blah blah.
I decided to change to XtreStoLite, a stable and light Marshmallow version. I downloaded it, I passed it to my phone, went to TWRP, flashed it ... But the Edge version ...
Long story short, my x axis touch was all ****ed up, you touched right, it touched left. I tried reinstalling NexusOS, but nothing, it just kept happening, I guessed it must have ****ed with the kernel or something, so I decided I was going to download the Stock ROM of the S6 (5.1.1) and try a fix I had seen that has worked a lot for others that was going into de dial pad and dialing "*#2663*#" and a couple of buttons and that was it, problem fixed.
I did, but when I went to flash it with Odin, I encountered a hundred problems more, first it didn't detect my phone, then I had errors. Nand write fail. Sboot.bin fail, and well, all of that.
So, I was tired, angry and decided to check the "Nand erase" checkbox that in some page I read might work, but instead it ****ed all up.
Now I'm sitting here watching my phone reboot and reboot again. It enters to the TWRP Recovery, but a console pops up and says thing like:
"Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer. Failed to mount /data (Invalid Argument" and things like these repeating once and again.
So, is there any way out of this? I mean, I can still go into Download mode, but for some reason can't flash any ROM. (I'm downloading another one right now for tomorrow morning, so we'll see). This is my daily carrier and I need it. I don't have the money to buy a new one right now, I know, I'm tremendously stupid and should've thought about doing this I didn't know what were.
Thank you in advance for the responses, and you can go ahead and curse at me a little for being an idiot.
Edit: Just discovered that I can go into the Recovery mode, but I tried to "factory reset" to see what would happen and a lot of "Failed to mount 'data' (Invalid Argument)". So, take that into account. Can't transfer anything to the phone though. Already tried.
Edit 2: I was able to install XtreStoLite, but the touch problem is still there. If anyone knows what the freak the "Sboot.bin" fail is and how to fix it, I would glady aprecciate it. I don't like the reversed touch screen that much. Thanks again.

Sboot.bin fail is most of the time a older bootloader youre trying to flash. Flash the newest update to your phone

Yeap. That worked. I downloaded the 7.0 Update. Now we shall see if I can fix the touch problem, I hope so.
Will update if I do. In this thread.
Edit: Yeap. It worked, seems like the code only works on Stock Android. For anyone who could be having this problem, this is the solution.

[Q] Need help flashing img via Fastboot - am I bricked?

Had just flashed the latest CM9 nightly (clean install, fresh wipe) yesterday and everything was running fine.
This morning, woke up, my phone was turned off. When powering it on it hung on the google screen. Fastboot still working, booted into recovery only to find that I would get error messages when trying to load my backs "E:unable to mount /sdcard". Apparently it also couldn't mount /data. So I was unable to flash any images or restore or boot up.
Seeing that fastboot was still working I assume I'm not bricked yet. I tried flashing a new boot and cwm recovery via fastboot - no dice. Same errors.
I don't have a recent backup of anything in sdcard, but at this point I'm willing to sacrifice it.
Found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
and I'm trying to follow the steps to flash back to stock GB. using the GRJ22 images
It flashed the boot and recovery without issue but seems to hang while flashing the system.img. I know it's a big file, but it was up to ~2hrs with it still transferring. I pulled the plug on it and tried again, lost patience after an hour.
Now I had the idea of maybe locking and unlocking the boot loader would help things.....not sure why I thought this. Anyway, now it seems to hang on the unlock bootloader screen.
So my question now - am I screwed?
- anything else to try?
- is it really "hanging" or do I need to give it more time?
- have I screwed myself even more by now locking my bootloader and flashing the stock recovery?
Any help would be very much appreciated....
Some new additions and new insights from the reddit android community:
- this probably has nothing to do with CM9. My phone has been wonky for about two weeks - random reboots, sometimes rebooting into recovery. That's why I thought I'd throw on the latest nightly and do a fresh wipe yesterday.
- There's definitely something up with /data. Anytime I tried wiping all/factory reset in cwm recovery I got errors about not being able to mount /data or being able to find files in /data
- basically anything I do involving /data partition causes the phone to lock-up -- flashing the boot.img and recovery img worked, but not system. Also, I think the reason I can't re-unlock the bootloader is because during the unlock process it tries to do a factory reset/data wipe
Basically I think there are two things I need to know if I can do - 1) unlock the bootloader again, via some way that won't try to reset the /data partition and thus won't freeze the phone. 2) try repartitioning /data
I really hope I didn't screw myself by locking the bootloader. I'd actually feel a lot better if it was something in my phone that just failed hardware-wise rather than something I could've fixed if I wasn't too quick to try poorly thought out ideas.....
Any help at all would be appreciated!
Possibly (and likely) a corrupted nand flash. Fairly common problem sadly. I'd say it's a good thing your bootloaders locked, no dramas sending it back to samsung. It might've been possible to reset the partitions and flash fastboot images but i don't think i've seen anyone who has done this to sort any similar problem. Hopefully your phones still under warranty
Well thank God that it turns out that I'm still on warranty.....sending the phone back to Samsung tomorrow.
Like you said, it's actually a good thing the bootloader is now locked and the stock boot img and recovery img are now back on! Hopefully this makes it more likely that they weren't turn away my phone.
I've yet to hear someone not getting work done under warranty because of an unlocked boot loader but it's always good to have it as stock as can be. Hope they don't take too long with your phone.

I bricked my nexus s 4 days before Christmas last year... and i was using a custom rom obviously with an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery image, and i handed it to vodafone, and guess what? they repaired without asking any questions, and the day before Christmas! sooo happy maybe because i was thirteen then, they didn't suspect a thing

[HELP?] Soft-Brick?

So i decied to go to carbon rom because my phone has been acting strange, YouTube would keep resigning in everything i would launch it, Random crashed and freezes and has just been acting up for no good reason. I was running CM 10.1 nightly and dont apply ant mods to it or anything like that becuase i like it simple.
When i flashed the rom i did it with gapps but they were not intalled when i boot, all i got was my SIM pin popup like i usualy get. So i re-flashed gapps and still no luck. So i said f*** it and found another build of it and copyed it to my SD Card and was going to flash it. Like i allways do i went to factory reset and all i got was a long log of cant remove lost+found and same happed when i tryed to wipe the system. and that didnt look good so i pulled the battery and booted recovery with the key press and it would get to teamwin screen but would reboot. Opened oden on my desktop, reflashed teamwin tar and that didnt help it. So i was lucky that i loaded the rom and i rebooted to recovery and am copying all my /data/media to a sdcard that i have
So can anyone give me some links to the 16GB PIT and all that jazz so i can get thing back up and running
And no i am not a n00b becasue i have been working with android and other phones long enough to know what i am doing

ADB stuck erasing 'userdata'

Like the title says, I'm stuck at the erasing 'userdata' part of flashing back to stock.
I'm following the information from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
I chose to use method 1, since i'm lazy and just want the new 4.4.1. Everything was going well until that part. Please help, I don't want to brick my phone by doing something stupid like unplugging it.... Unless that'll work.
also the little android with the ! is not present. The screen still shows the large android with blue squares inside. I also did not factory reset before i tried to do this.

formatting partitions can take ages on this phone. i stopped mid-format on cache with an early version of TWRP a couple of weeks ago and it's taken the best part of a day yesterday to sort it out - i couldn't even flash kernels or boot animations without bootloop (on the second boot? wtf??), and ended up going back to stock, locking the bootloader and repeatedly formatting all partitions to sort it! (it might be worth locking and unlocking the bootloader before you put your data back since you're there anyway....)
Well I decided to be brave and boot from TWRP recovery, but when I unplugged the phone ADB showed an error saying "Too many open files in system". The phone then rebooted on its own, and the little android with the ! came up, and the process seems to have worked. Thank you for the information about taking forever on the formatting, I will keep that in mind when I flash a custom recovery again.
I know its a little outdated, but i had the same problems few days ago, and i solved the problem using a pc in windows xp and everything went great, but in Windows 7 everytime got stuck at erasing userdata.
Permission issue fixed!

S7 edge stock. Need advice. Annylise of 4 months.

Hello all.
It's a long story and I will try explain my problem as good as I can.
So it all started a year ago on my other s7 edge. It was rooted and I was running a rom. Loved that one. Not gonne name it because my screen totally burned in with an app. It was due the screen was broken. So samsung gave a new one for free. They didnt even check.
This is where I think things go wrong. I had to wait a bit so my boss gave me his old htc for the time being. So finally I got my new edge. A week or two before npugat update. Now after nougat I notice things are not right. Allot of core apps don't upgrade. So had to do it manually.
Okay no problems. So called help support. They ticked auto update on wifi and mobile a few time. And he told me. My co worker told me about this weird bug. If this doesnt work you need to make a new google acc and samsung acc and factory reset. So I was like hmmm no. Allot of payed apps.
So I was thinking... lets check some stuf. So I activated the dev settings and then backup and restore. And there it was an option called auto restore after a new installation... well my last login was on a htc.
So okay i have tryed allot and here are things I have discovered.
-Core apps are the most early version there are
-If I go to google play store or samsung. The most basic apps like email and clock and so one. It says not compitable with ur device. Even if I update it manually.
-If I want to report stock apps it will always say app id or package name are missing.
-A few app permissions only work.
-I also didnt update a few apps and they had five or more new releases. Still says nope still ot will say its the latest version.
-So software update still works. Last week a new security patch. But really everything is messed up.
-Cant manual update any apps any more. Always app conflict or not compitable.
-So I installed a few device software and hardware info. Radio unknown sdk unkown and so on.
-So finally installed an emulator and runned the command $sh getprop. U can guess allot of unknowns and false and negative settings. With negative it says -1 or -0.....
So im really clueless. I need a real total clean wipe. Reinstalled bl cp and ap and csc.. If I will check off auto restore after new device or restore and flash it with odin. Will this solve this issue?
And what are the proper odin settings and do I need to use the pit file? Cus Somehow the latest update tryed to install core apps on my external sd card... Its a 0 mb card since I dont use a sd card.. But I did had one on my old one.
I hope to get some tips. Because this time I wont flash or root without someone else his advice. Everything I told is in a period of 4 months.
Thnx in advance. Hope to hear soon.

I would try flashing the stock firmware via Odin, download the firmware and place it in the AP slot in Odin with default settings and options, don't change anything in Odin. Then flash it.
If it bootloops after flashing, boot to stock recovery and factory reset/wipe cache in recovery.
If that doesn't work you can try flashing the firmware again along with the PIT for your model number. Place your firmware in the AP slot then find the PIT tab in Odin and place the PIT there, then in the options for Odin, make sure the "repartition" option has a check beside it, then flash the device.
Again, you might have to boot to recovery after flashing to wipe the device if it bootloops after flashing.

Thanks for the quick response.
Will this clear core apps aswell? And will it apply the "Restore settings and system" after the flash? Since last time I used odin in this way when it says wiping date it instant completed that part.
And about the bootloop. I work for a company I flash software directly on the boards. When u flash directly on a board a bootloop is good and can take up to 20 minutes. Since it have settings who need to be aplied for the next step. And those only get aplyed after a reboot. Does this count for odin aswell perhaps? When it bootloops keep it doing for a while?
Thanks

Taking a while to load at first startup is normal, but bootloop is not "normal", sometimes bootloop happens depending on the operating system being flashed but generally speaking bootloop should not happen under normal circumstances when flashing with Odin.
As for clearing your apps, it should automatically format the system partition before it flashes the system.img which "should" overwrite the existing system partition with the new system.img.

Ahh okay. Will do you steps then. Hope it will work. I do have one last question.
I've just read before you flash. You have to remove all securitys like fibgerprint and accounts. And after the flash when you get at the setup. They say skip all. And add everything after so it wont restore old stuff. Is this true?

I don't have a Samsung device that requires these steps but it sounds like solid advice to me though. It sounds right because doing it that way means you're signing into the device without associating it to anything from before to let it complete setup without issues and then setting everything up after. Then if any of the things you re-associate cause issues, it will be easier to resolve than it would be if you flashed and restored everything during setup, doing it that way makes it hard to fix things because if something doesn't work it can cause your device to not boot properly. Doing it the after setup avoids some of those issues.

Thanks allot for taking time and the great advice. Gonne follow it up and after that I might gonne install magisk su. Never heard about since last night. Will let you know the results.
Edit
Thanks sir.
As what I can see for now allot of my issues are fixed. Probaly need to test more. But like they say time will tell. Great support much appreciated. Next steps twrp superstock kernel and magisk.

Trying to root device gives me error message: "Verification failed"

I have rooted my phone many times before, but often times i mess things up so i would have to reset my phone to factory settings and do it all again and hope not to mess up. The rooting process was the easiest of them all. But today, i go a new message i had never seen before. I installed this https://download.chainfire.eu/929/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.zip like i always do. And i have enabled oem unlock, and im ready to go. I might have forgotten something but i dont remember what. I rooted it and odin said "success", but when i looked at my phone i saw it told me my phone had been encrypted or something, i wasn't completely sure. It told me to put in my pin code and i thought "huh, maybe a new feature samsung added to prevent theft" I typed in the correct pin code, but then it failed and the only option was to factory reset it. I looked it up online, didnt find much information, except that if you clean partition cache, the problem is fixed. Well, not for me. I then decided, that i might aswell reset it. But the button didnt even work, i was like "what the **** even is this". I then went to recovery mode and factory reset it from there. And now im here, trying to figure out how to actually root my Samsung galaxy s7 android 7.0 phone without getting that stupid message again. I always rooted from 6.0.1 or 6.0, this is my first time 7.0, so please tell me what i have done wrong.
Try to root with flashing TWRP, and inside TWRP insall SuperSU
You can follow this Guide:
