Bootloop after TWRP Format Data SOLVED - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have an Honor 8 (EMUI 8). I opened the bootloader and flashed TWRP 3.2.0 via Multi-Tool.
Since TWRP asked for a password to the encrypted data partition, I elected to format it (Format Data, type yes) thinking it is empty anyway. However, Android won't boot now. TWRP works fine.
Why is this so?
And is there a quicker solution to the problem than flashing a new ROM?

After many failed attempts I was finally able to revive the phone. I just needed to use Download Latest Version in eRecovery, and a Factory Reset afterwards.

Cannot wipe "/Data" & "/Dalvik" and TWRP is asking for Password [Solved]
Hey Guys!
So a few days ago i decided to install and try out the ubuntu touch. My Android OS was the newest CM-11 Nightly edition of the TF700t , but because it was not compatible with dual boot I wiped it out. Then I done everything as it was ordered and finally i had may Touch and my "TF700T_CROMBi-kk_RC2 KitKat-4.4.4rc2-CM11-D". Everything was perfect and there was no problem , then I wiped out the whole thing , because I dosen't liked the touch (from the beginning it was just about trying it out) and reinstalled the "TF700T_CROMBi-kk_RC2 KitKat-4.4.4rc2-CM11-D". For like a day there was no problem at all , then i turned off the tablet (before this shutdown there was like 3-4 restart) and when I turned it back 9 hours later the OS just restated it self when I tried to enter. The TWRP is asked for a password (I didn't setup any kind of security for my TWRP) so it was kinda odd. When I tried to restore my backup it's was a fail , also when I tried to wipe out the system "failed" , because the recovery system was unable to wipe the "/dalvik" and "/data" and neither can mount the "/data". I tried to update the TWRP via fastboot but my PC stays at "waiting for device". I appreciate any kind of suggestion and help , pls guys help I'm out of ideas .
TWRP version: 2.6.3.2
TWRP asks for a password if it can't read the file system on /data and so it assumes it's encrypted.
Sounds as if you corrupted your data partition somewhere in this. Try to format data (not wipe) in TWRP. This would erase all your data on the tablet, but you got that backed up anyway, right?
I swear to god that I tried this too , but it's worked. Thanks for the help.

Mate 7, LT-09 very hard brick, dead device.

Hi everyone,
I have a Huawei Mate 7 LT-09 16 gig, and I recently did these works:
1. The installed rom was android 6 B513.
2. I read a post in this forum (that is closed now) and updated it to B553 KingVIP Chinese through restoring nandroid TWRP backup.
3. After install I saw lots of bugs, so I wipe all partitions through advanced wipe in TWRP.
4. Then install marshmallow stock recovery using mobopx tool.
after that nothing works.
The USB drive just show hisuite CD-Rom and device not recognize for ADB Options in windows 7,8,8.1 and 10.
There is no recovery,
There is no option using combinations of the buttons vol+,Vol- and power.
I tried installing stock ROM through .app file and dload folder and still nothing works.
I tried Jtag and after lots of work, fastboot screen appears and reinstalling all versions of different recoveries and looks like the software is installing nowhere in neverland!, there is nothing!
I take my device to a technician and he said there is maybe no way to re-run the device. I really need help.
Apologize for poor English and thanks in advance help.
First try flash twrp for 6.0 mobopx and then try restore backup b513 frome here

And if work we work later to restore your MT to lp
Send from ?
First thanks for reply and then,
I tried all recoveries already, including twrp, cwm and stock, all versions of android (4,5.1,6). I have my twrp backup. My problem is that there is nothing comes, no recovery, no fastboot, just huawei logo. No USB detecting by computer, no adb device detection, nothing. Last time, before hard brick, I restored twrp backup and there was a 255 error by twrp in system partition.

I tried and could install twrp. When I try to restore backup using twrp it says "extracttarfork() process ended with error=255" and restoring fails. As I see there is 1200 MB in my system partition and twrp can not wipe it and this is the problem. I try to erase partition using fastboot and it says there is no permission to do that. thanks in advance if any help.
Something similar happened to me, too. What fixed it for me was this:
1) Go into bootloader mode (-Vol and Power)
2) Flash Marshmallow TWRP
3) Wipe CACHE, DALVIK, SYSTEM, CUST, DATA
4) Restore the Marshmallow KANG backup or flash one the KANG roms
Hope these steps help. I was on wits end and followed these steps after a lot of research and it helped. Good luck!

can you link me to 2) Marshmallow TWRP ?
At last I could fix my problem with my phone. I download Kang B553 zip, install it through twrp and then I could re-format system partition and I use B511 nandroid backup to restore everything and now the phone works like a charm.

[Help] Device not booting after reinstalling stock via dload and factory reset

Hi,
I recently tried to install a custom rom (Resurrection Remix) on the latest EMUI version which resulted in my device not booting anymore.
After several tries I gave up and wanted to simply use stock with root.
I installed SuperSU, but that did not show up in the application menu.
After that I recovered system and boot from a recent full backup and installed magisk.
That resulted in the device not booting anymore at all. This condition stays now.
I then reinstalled the stock rom via dload method, with a factory reset after, but it then started to be stuck in the blue screen with the honor logo.
Is there anything I can do? TWRP is gone, I only get the stock EMUI recovery.
This happened to mee too. You should try a wipe data and cache from recovery, then reboot. It worked for me.
P.s i flashed a stock recovery don't know if TWRP will work the same, try.
After the dload update the stock recovery is installed again, I wiped data and cache already, but that didnt make it work too :/
EDIT: Found the error: The /data partition is unusable in it's current state (f2fs). Is F2FS the default filesystem for /data or do I need to change it to ext4 or something?

Unsuccessful decryption

Okay, I'm not sure if this entirely the right place. Have updated to Viper 2.1.0. Rebooted my phone, as I do each morning. It came up with needing to to enter a decryption key, ie; my password. Did said & it failed saying that data is corrupt. TWRP can no longer read the data portion either. Therefore can't wipe it in TWRP.
Is there a way to format or wipe the data partition through either fastboot or adb?
Factory reset but your data will be gone.

Try this, Venom helped with it a while ago and it worked, you will just have to re activate smart lock in google setting.
TWRP-Advanced-File Browser.
Navigate to /data/system and delete the locksettings.db.
I got my phone back from HTC after repair my phone screen and they wiped my custom rom and recovery but still have unlocked bootloader and restore oreo 8.0.
I managed to re-install twrp and tried to install a customed rom and experienced the same "decryption unsuccessful". But there is no lockingsettiings.db in the folder.
I will later try this method and report.... been a frustrating day....

Nandroid Restore gone wrong

Hi,
I have tested the liquidremix rom which is great, but I still wanted to go back to my stock OSS
So I started TWRP, hit restore, everything seem to work fine, but when I reboot the system I'm stuck at the boot animation.
When I reboot the device to TWRP and check the file manager or my backup folder there are only cryptic and weird letters...
How do I restore my backup properly ?
Try to go back to TWRP 3.2.1.0 i think that that works
everything is gone, you will have to restore with the brick tool, happened to me last week and still not sure why, apparently backing up with TWRP you only need to ticket DATA and that's it.
You need to do two things whenever you restore with TWRP. First is factory reset in TWRP before the restore (that will wipe data). Second is restore system, boot, and data ONLY.
The weird file names and cryptic letters is from the encryption from the old rom. I strongly recommend that you invest in an OTG flash drive so you can store TWRP backups on it. Then you can properly wipe the phone. On the plus side this has happened to me before and I never needed anything special like the unbrick tool to get my TWRP backup up and running smoothly.
and there is a better twrp than twrp. The official is by Dees Troy and the un-official one by Joe Moss Jr. is here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-2-0-touch-recovery-t3813317
Joe's big improvement is a usable 'mtp', ie. access that thumb drive.
Also puts the vibration back in to the key press.
First if you r seeing weired letters in twrp like xdjdhdhdhd folders. Then go to fastboot mode flash newest twrp. Img then ij recovery first flash your liquid remix furst, then flash twrp installer zip niw reboot to recovery.
Now factory reset your phone.
Now if you have oos backup. Then restore everything except system.
And then restore system alone at last now reboot it will work.
your gonna need the flashable oos 5.1x which is one here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/oneplus-6-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3792244
fastboot to twrp
abd push the stock.zip to the phone <-assuming you know this.
and flash it from twrp.
reboot
fastboot twrp again and flash twrp.
this is where decryption comes in handy
Restoring backups with twrp will fail almost all the time. I've yet to do a successful restore and I've tried every method. You're gonna have to flash back to stock OOS and start over.
If anyone has successfully restored more than one backup then I would start a new thread with the exact method you used.
That worked.
I still wonder why not to restore system.
If I take a nandroid backup should one backup
system or system image, data or data image ?
I was trying a new rom the Resurection Remix V6.2.0 Android 8.1.0. i wanted to go back to my TWRP Backup of OOS 5.11 . I wiped data/cache/System . Tried to restore rom . it restored successfully but i didnt do wipe data thing. when i tried to reboot twrp blu, the recovery was lost. then i had to fastboot boot reovery. and lot of wierd folders were created on my phone internal memory. All data lost.
i had to flash the full 5.11 stock zip via twrp. tried to reboot again lost in bootloop. Switched back to stock recovery and make a factory reset then it booted.
switched off the phone back to Blu spark TWRP. again wipe data cache and system. Then restore the TWRP Backup previously double saved on a usb drive. This Time it restored successfully and booted as well fine.
i think i should have made a factory reset or format data before restoring from A Lineage OS Rom OS to OOS TWRP Backup
thats what made the whole internal drive mess and to be formatted as well
My Question is it only important to format data and then restore twrp or also backup and make restore of system.img of OOS backup as well
