Replacing Google - possible on Pixel 3? - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

I've been using microG as Play Services replacement on my OnePlus 3T for a while now. However, with the somewhat lack of third-party ROM options (at least here on xda), I was starting to wonder if it's even possible on a Pixel 3?

Pixel launcher

I have an 4/64GB EU version with Android One, and migrating from my beloved Nexus 5 with LineageOS and Pixel launcher, which i really liked. Now i am wondering if it is at all possible to run Pixel launcher on this phone or if i have to adapt to Launcher3?
Answering my own question. Found this and it works, now i have to organise my home screen...again... Pixel launcher
And yes, so far it seems to work...

Given the choice between a current Google device vs a current iPhone, I'd go with the android device just for the freedoms it has over iOS.

I vote Google Pixel
I Agree with Droidriven I Phones are limited on what you can do, you have a lot more freedom with android. If you think about it everything is connected to google so why not get a google phone.
I would prefer Google as it provides good and regular google security. The camera quality of any Pixel device is always better than iPhone's camera and google is providing lot of useful stuffs in box as compare to Apple and with 83000/-.
Android all the way!

Arnovas v1.7 Compatibility?

I'm interested in getting the pixel 3 (or 4)
Currently using a pixel 2 xl as a dedicated camera phone was and I'm using Arnovas V1.7 Gcam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.7.190716.1800.apk
As a gcam mod for much better photos
Was wondering if anyone is able to let me know if the same gcam APK works on the pixel 3?
This is directed at someone who already has it installed as I don't want to put anyone through the hassle of installing it to test it
Thanks in advanced!
Pixel phones are the source of these gcam apks. Hence, you should not need any gcam mods as you always have the latest, greatest and most stable (hopefully) as a pixel owner.
For instance, my Pixel 3 Camera app has the version 6.3.026.

Google Pixel XL

Hello , i am new on xda and also google pixel platform , may i know how do i install latest gcam on my OG GOOGLE PIXEL 1 XL without rooting my pixel ? thankss :good:
Execuse me, what does your gcam stand for?
Is it Google Camera?
As we know, Google Camera is the stock camera app shipped on Pixel phones from Google. So, I am confused.
And why not ask in

Best rom for newbie, with hopefully updates for the many years to come?

Hi!
So i have a Pixel 2, not receiving security updates anymore for over a year and it's probably time to do something about it. Never flashed it or any other phones for that matter. I use exclusively Linux (I don't have access to any Windows machines). My wife has a Pixel 3, so it'll probably need the same 'fix', though she uses a lot of apps for the play store, I don't much.
A few questions to start:
- is play store access kept?
- Any stupid-proof guide to do that with my lack of experience?
- Which ROM should I go for?
I use mainly some chat apps, Google 2FA, my banking app, some IOT original apps for setup with home assistant, google photos which i could probably replace (not a photo guy).
Thank you for your help in the matter.
I would say that Lineage OS would be your best bet but I would caution that some bank apps are very particular and you may want to think about moving onto a new phone if you are serious about longevity.

This. If you need working SafetyNet, your best bet is to continue to use a stock ROM. Since Pixel devices are only supported for 3 years, you may want to consider upgrading to a new device. I upgraded from the P2 to the P5, and upgraded my wife's P3 to the 5a. Google often has sales associated with new device releases; we paid $400 for my wife's 5a, then got a $73 credit for her P3.
I am also a newbie and was really interested in crDroid or ProtonAOSP. Does anybody have an opinion on that?
