Locking the home screen with Nova Launcher - General Questions and Answers

Hi. I'm new to Nova Launcher. I have a Samsung phone and I'm using Nova to replace "Samsung Home Experience" which I guess used to be Touchwiz. One of the things I don't like about the Samsung Launcher is that my home screen is sensitive to long presses to the very edges of the screen. I can't disable that. So it's easy to long press by accident at the edges of the screen with your hand when holding the phone. When you do, the home screen switcher mode is activated. Then you have to press screen to bring home screen back to top. Annoying.
One of the the reasons I became interested in Nova launcher is because you can lock the home screen. So I did that. However, whenever a long press takes place on the home screen, a message stating the screen has been locked pops up... Can I disable this notification since I know that the screen is locked since I set it this way? This way my hand won't set off the notification, just like it did with the home screen switcher? Thanks.

maybe an answer can be found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071

LauncherPro - snap to home?

Is there a way for LauncherPro to snap back to the "center" home screen after a lock? It's leaving off where I left it and I'd really like to always land on my normal home screen. TIA.
should be fixed by going into settting and setting the default page to center or what ever number page is your center..
Maybe you can try the Launcher Pro forum

Same Question I had
That was the same question I had after the new update. As in we got optical scrolling so how about being able to push the optical d pad for home screen!
You can do this with WidgetLocker. It is a paid app, but I have it and like it a lot.
I have WidgetLocker, really like it a lot and did exactly what I'm looking for (pre-LauncherPro).
Example... if I'm on my middle home screen and swipe left, hit an icon for, say, Handcent, open a text message and type away. I then lock my screen, come back to it later and unlock. It will take me to the left screen that I left off from. If I hit the Handcent icon it will take me back into the message that I left off in.
Before I put LauncherPro on my screen I would have done the above actions but the result would be that when I unlock my phone it would always snap back to the center home screen and if I open Handcent it would always open to my list of conversations, not inside the one I left off in.
I realize both small, but I'm trying to figure out if LauncherPro is worth having as a result.
Thanks.
I notice this too. Swipe to the right, play Angry Birds for a while then hit the Home button to go back home and it takes you to the page you left, not the "Default Screen".
The "Home Key Action" setting doesn't have anything to tell it go back to the default screen, so maybe we're outta luck.

[Q] screen freezes on appdrawer and home

Ok so I couldn't find anyone having the same issue in the Leedroid rom thread, so I figured I would ask here.
Does anyone elses screen freeze on the app drawer or home screens and only unfreezes when you pull the notification bar down?
I have tried turning the screen off and then back on and going into the app drawer changing the home screen (only freezes when I get to that point).
It doesn't happen all the time either. And it has been happening since the phone was stock and even now as it is rooted. I'm trying to say, I will press power button, slide lock ring, enter pattern, screen will show up, try to spin to another home screen but screen will not move, touch buttons work and volume works and power works but screen will not move. Press app drqwer and it opens but will not move either.....drag the notification bar down and everything works again.....

Home button vs screen lock press when screen is off and no lock screen security

Hello,
I've been using my new note 2 for two weeks now.. and I like it so much
I also used sgs2 and 3 before.
I'm not new to android.. I flashed roms, know every single setting in the device, rooted my sgs2 and tried lots of apps to customize them.
Regarding my issue, I like to set my device to none screen security because I always manually lock it with a press on the lock screen button after I do whatever I want to do with it, and to unlock I always press Home button to get back to where I was immediately without the need to swipe the lock screen.
The problem is when I lock it and there is an app running and then press the home button the screen goes to home default screen and do not just unlock the screen and keep it there where I was last, this was not the case with my sgs2 or sgs3.
If I press the lock screen button instead it does what I want but I prefer to use home button because its much easier.
Its not a big issue but its annoying sometimes because sometimes I get popup notification windows while the phone is locked (whatsapp for example) and I press the home button to see it and instead of just turning on the screen to see the window it goes back to home screen and the popup is gone, or in cases where I'am writing an email or reading something and meanwhile talking to somebody, if the screen gets locked, If I press the home button everything is gone. So I have to switch tasks to open my activity again.
I don't know if this is a jellybean issue or hardware (homebutton).
I know its not a big deal but I would appreciate if somebody can help get around this

Why do we need the Home button's force/3d touch?

I'm playing s8+ for over a week. Slowly the first dust settles down and I start thinking about the phone in a more reasonable way. One day I was using an app that allows rotating screen 180° (*). My first thought was: what will happen with the home button when it will be on the other side of the screen?
Will the force touch work?
It doesn't of course.
So will I be able to launch the assistant app? Yes. It launches when you keep your finger on the home button a bit longer.
Ok then. So I asked the question myself:
What this force touch is made for?
The only use I find is: enable use of Home button in immersive mode (On the AOD screen you need to double click to "turn on" the screen so I can't say that the force touch is necessary there).
Any other use you find for this sophisticated tech?

It's just to show off when the screen is off, and Always on Display is off (I don't use it due to it being a waste of battery) and allows someone to turn on the screen without using the power button.
Is just f'n awesome straight up bragging rights when you tell your friends that I can turn my phone on by touching the invisible button lol that's my only reason for needing it
I love the feature.... no screwing around with power button or anything just press and hold to unlock:good:
The only uses are turning on your screen from a screen-off state, and to return to home straight away when the buttons are gone. You can force-touch the place where the home button would be when the home buttons aren't there to go straight to your home screen, pretty useful when playing full-screen games. And it's super easy to unlock your phone when you set the touch sensitivity to the highest, just a small touch unlocks the screen easily
Heres a tip: If you leave the home button on with the always on display, you can also double tap it to have it open the lock screen instead of unlocking.

Why do people keep saying this? Is there some feature I'm not aware of? It's a hard-press or, in the alternative, a double tap if the home button is showing. I've never seen any option to "press and hold" (a/k/a "long-press") like you and others keep saying. What am I missing?

go to display settings then to navigation bar settings then there is option for unlock with home button, once that is on, with AOD on you just touch and hold the button and it will go right to your home screen or you can shut off AOD and with the screen off you can still press and hold in the same area where the home button would be and it will unlock the phone and take you to your home screen:good:

Strange. That doesn't work for me. I enabled "Unlock with Home Button," and when my screen is on AOD, I touch-and-hold on the home button, and nothing happens. Only double-touching or hard-pressing do anything. I'm on Verizon S8+.
Main use is for AOD. You wouldnt want your phone turning on simply be the home button screen area being rub.
But outside of that. There isnt a need for it. There had been phones with on screen home buttons before. This thing here is that they disapper when using full screen on the s8

Can I create new home screen panel to the left of the “main” panel in Android 10?

I have Pixel 3a running Android 10.
I can create new home screen panel by moving application shortcuts to the right of rightmost existing panel. However, I can't move them to the left of the "main" panel (when I say "main" I mean the one to which you navigate by pressing "Home" button).
Is it possible to do in Android 10? The panel to the left of the main one used to have Google News, I turned it off but can't place anything else there.
I am coming from old phone running Android 4.2 and there it was possible. "Main" panel was in the middle and I could create new panels on either side.
yes. you just need to create 3 screens and have your main home screen be the middle screen. then from the middle screen you can move left or right. not sure if thats what you want though cause you are correct that they only get created to the right.

I don't think this is what I want because if I click "Home" button I am always brought to the leftmost panel. I updated my OP to be clearer on what I mean.
ok. but when i create the 3 screens and press home it navigates to the middle screen. so i do have a screen to the left and right of the home. thing is i'm using the nova launcher so that's probably it. i guess you're using pixel launcher? might want to search for pixel launcher apps that change the function.

Yes, I am using Pixel launcher.
Apparently the Dec Android update brings gestures to third party launchers which is been a missing element up until now. Once you take the update, you may want to try out Nova Launcher or another third party launcher to achieve what you are looking for. I know I had to stop using Nova on Android 10 because I wanted to use gesture navigation. Now that Google is allowing gesture navigation on third party launchers, I'm sure I'll go back to Nova. I really miss the app draw folders!
But you can definitely add as many screen as you want and even reset the "home" screen easily using Nova. So if you want one screen to the left, then home screen, then a screen to the right - that will be no problem using Nova. In fact you can turn on the infinite swipe feature where the home screens won't ever hit a hard "end" but keep flowing when swiped. So if you have three home screens and swipe right from the third screen you will flow from 3 -> 2 -> 1 ->3 ->2 ->1 etc etc etc. But anytime you press the home button, you can set it to be taken to the middle screen.
