Power off battery drain - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi,
recently I replaced my old S7 with a brand new, sealed OG Pixel. I got the Pixel only to serve as my backup phone and for some photo storage.
I got the phone, charged it and set it up, updated it and powered it off and topped off battery. I turned on the phone the next day to put on some used apps and thought "hmm I could swore I charged it fully" so after I topped the battery up and turned it off again.
I turned it on the next day because the battery drain was bugging me as I knew I fully charged it them other days.... turned it on and it was back down to 70%
I thought I would factory reset my phone to hope that would somehow fix it … reset my phone and skipped setup so no wifi etc. and made sure I was at 100% before powering off at 8:30pm that night. The next morning at 9am I powered it back on to see.... 71%
Why would this be happening? how can the battery drain 30% while powered off?

battery charging with JF ADP 1.5

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with battery charging on JF's ADP 1.5 release?
I've got this issue where I plug my phone in to the wall charger at night and it's on a cheap lamp timer so that it doesn't start to charge until 1.25 hours before I leave for work to prevent overcharging. Since I updated to 1.5 it seems that when the phone is On and starts the wall charge it treats it like a trickle charge as if it were connected via USB to a computer. Only after I turn the phone off does it rapidly charge like it should via the wall charger. Its a little annoying since the first day after the 1.5 update I didn't notice it and went in to work with a half charged battery. Now I know to look out for it and go turn the phone off when I wake up and by the time I'm ready to leave for work it's fully charged.

Wait, so does G1 have overcharge protection or doesn't it??
I didn't think it was necessary to protect from overcharging either.
I don't see this problem with my JF1.5 though - I plug it in at night and it charges full for when I wake up the next morning.

it should as that is very simple technology and is standard in many cheap devices now, so my guess is it would be in g1 or there would be a heck of alot more problems.........
on another note....ive noticed with JF 1.5 my battery icon gets a little stuck.....i thought it was an improvement of battery life until yesterday it stayed at 100% for like 5 hours but then dropped to 80% out of no where when i installed an app.......is anyone else having this issue??
I use battery graph from the market to see my battery charge over time. That's how I know that it "trickle" charges for me when connected to the wall charger until I turn the phone off.
BTW, when I turn the phone off then back on after waking up it does rapidly charge properly as well. Seems like it just needs a reboot for it to work right.
...and I'm sure that the G1 does have built-in overcharge protection, I just don't really trust it to do as good of a job as my cheap lamp timer does
Turn off your phone, remove you batter, put it back in, and turn your phone on. Everything should reset and be back to normal.
will try tonight.
no problem the power indicator or measurer is just more accurate in the 1.5 builds
i agree, used to fully charge in about an hour and a half, now its been takeing about 4 hours to hit 100% from about 1/2 charge...
ive noticed the same thing.
My phone charges fine with both my regular G1 battery and my Seidio Extended 2600mAh battery since my upgrade to JF ADP V1.50.
mine is on the trickle charge bug as well. phone stays cold throughout the 2 hours i've had it plugged in and its only at 68% charge. Brought it down to around 30% charge when I plugged it in to the wall.
My phone had the same problem when i updated to any of the 1.5 builds w/ radio. today, i drained the battery all the way until the phone died and took the battery out for about a min. Put it back in and started charging. My phone went back to charging normally up to 100% within ~2.5hrs. I've still yet to see how long this full battery will last until later today. Normally, i would get up to 2 days easy w/out charging on normal usage (a text or 5 min phone call here and there), 2G only, wifi disabled, bluetooth disabled. I'll let you guys know how it goes later.
This problem happens when the G1 is offline (airplane mode). When its online there is no problem with charging
mine has been acting weird since going to jf 1.5
last night i plugged it in at like 33% charged, and like 3 hours later it was at like 65%
i unplugged it, turned it off. turned it back on and when i plugged it in it was 100%.
before i charged it (when it was at 33%) i yanked the battery for a few seconds then put it back in then started to charge.
i'm going to do what JDMr2 did and let it die, yank the battery for a min then charge it and see how it goes.
It's always been charging more slowly on Cupcake than 1.x, BUT the battery lasts much, much longer.
well I took the battery out for a minute then put it back in. I left the phone on at night and plugged in the wall charger that's on my lamp timer before going to sleep. I woke up in the morning and looked at it in battery grapher and noticed that it rapidly charged from 30% until 60% then began to trickle charge the rest of the way up to 72% when I looked at the graph. I rebooted the phone, plugged it back in to the wall charger and it rapidly charged the rest of the way to 100%.
So, taking the battery out did not solve it. But interestingly I did discover that it rapidly charges until 60% then it switched into trickle charge mode. This is only after one observation however.
I've been having this problem as well but even prior to JF's version. I originally upgraded to the stock 1.5 from HTC (radio then firmware) and noticed the very slow charge times. I've tried pulling the battery and restarting but that hasnt changed anything. In the process now of completely draining the unit and then going to try again from there.
My G1 charges like normal.
JF1.5 ADP.
JF 1.5 nothing else fancy and I have noticed that charging has went from 45 mins or so to hours. Last night from amber it took 5 or so hours to go green. They definitely changed how the phone charges. Now my battery info says 73% and it has been moderately used for 7 hours. Looks like they went in a positive direction.

From AWESOME to TERRIBLE overnight

Well, this was interesting... Since day 1, I have had great battery life and have not experienced what everyone else has been experiencing.. An occassional lock-up/reboot, but nothing major.
A couple of weeks ago, I switched to a backup battery (andida). Things have been going well w/ that battery. Yesterday, I updated cwm.. While the andida battery was out, I decided to switch back to the stock battery for a while. Then, the following items took place all within a few hours of use, which I have not experienced.. ever before:
- Battery temp running high.. Andida constantly hanging around 22.2 - 23.2. Stock was hitting around 43 until i rebooted the phone, then dropped to 40. It is currently running at 36.
- 2 shutdowns. I could not boot the phone past the LG logo after the shutdown. Was able to boot into CWM though > went to shutdown > tried to boot, same thing. Had to pull the battery in order for it to boot.
- Received a phone call, answered, but the phone kept ringing during the entire phone conversation.
- 2 screen lockups. Could slide the unlock, get the haptic feedback, but that was it. It would not unlock. Had to reboot.
- 1 black screen of death? Total black screen with the task bar displayed. Was able to go into settings, pull down the task bar, etc. Background was blacked out. Reboot, fixed.
- Can not get gps. Was driving for 5min trying to get a GPS lock, nothing. Opened up GPS test and not a single satellite showed up in the list.
- Finally... and worst of all. Last night I plug in the phone for a couple of hours. As I'm going to bed, I disconnect the usb from it.. and take a glance to see where it charged to - 100%. I go to bed at around 1:30am. I wake up at 7:30a, turn on the screen of the phone, and it gives low battery warning. It's at 2%. I reboot the phone to make sure. It's at 1%.
So idk.. maybe something was stuck running. I'll find out here shortly after this charge is done.. but I am seeing a major difference in the operation of the phone after putting the stock battery back in. I had not experienced this when I was running the stock battery in the past. (I had an occasional lockup/reboot.. but not to this scale.. and I had always had fantastic battery life. Every single time I unplugged before bed and had 100%, I would have 98% when I woke up).
Suggestions? Changes were updating to the new CWM 4 and putting the stock battery back in. Running Bionix RC1..which I have been running for a while. I'll let this sucker charge up and see what it does. Maybe I should wipe the batt stats?
yeah wipe the batt stats. possibly try cm7 its really stable now. i know it doesnt have the a2dp but every else works. i would say another kernel also faux's or morific work fine. use setcpu if your going to oc. if you choose to flash another i would do a complete wipe of everything then install so hopefully the problems wont pop back up in the new flash. i read in one of the thread that if your battery is dated 3/2011 it will have issues but the 4/2011 or whatever will have less reboot and freezes issues may wanna try getting a replacement if you wanna stick with bionix until krylon does an update.
The andida battery doesn't have a temp sensor, so it's worthless for testing temperatures.
well, idk.. who knows what the crap happened. I charged to 79% and unplugged. 2.5hrs later, I'm still at 72%. That's around 3% an hr. Last night was 17%/hr.. Something happened last night.. Man, I'd love to know what took place.
Either I had an app going wild all night, or the battery really never charged.. and the 100% was deceptive. It's just nuts how all of these probs all of a sudden surfaced right after cwm 4 and putting the stock battery back in. They never surfaced b4 on the same ROM and with the same battery that I used for weeks and weeks.
O'well....

I know, it is just weird but it does happens from timr to time.
God bless you my brother in Christ
I see that you are a Jesus Freak just like me
Sent From My Stock G2x
When the battery is less than when it removed,After some time and putting it back will be full power display
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
You should wipe battery stats when doing any major rom change (stock to custom or between different roms).
Battery will always be wonky the first time before a full charge/discharge on the rom unless it is 100% and battery stats are wiped.
Typically what I do (on CM7), is when I wake up the phone is at 100%. I download the latest nightly while I'm in the shower. Jump out, it starts to flash. When its done and booted up, I wipe stats then unplug the phone and go to work.
I don't always wipe stats. But with all of the battery tweaks and fixes he's done, I will occasionally.
I very rarely ever completely turn my phone off, but last night I decided to turn it off right before I went to sleep. My battery was down to 25% right before I turned it off. When I woke up this morning the phone would not turn on. So I decided to plug it into the wall charger to see if it would help. Well the phone did turn on after I plugged it in and to my surprise the battery was showing as 0% charged which is why it wouldn't turn on without being plugged in.
So, that means that something drained my battery from 25% to 0% while the phone was completely turned off. What in the world would be running while the phone is turned off that would drain the battery like that?

[Q] Sensation battery problem - rapid battery drain

I have this phone for two months, stock rom, not rooted, don't use mobile internet, only wi-fi, not always on, I would say a moderate usage.
The last week I am experiencing big battery problems, it drains in half a day. Nothing new installed in the last week that could be a problem, I think I had only few app updates from the market, but am not sure if the time is the same as the beginning of battery problems.
The first time I have charged the battery in the evening, disconected the charger after the light turned green, it was about 10pm, the next morning at 6 am the battery was at 4%?! The second time the battery was charged from 15% to 65% (I had no time to full carge), from 4pm to 10 pm it went down to 3% again.
Last night I made a full charge, disconected the charger at 6am this morning, now at 8 am the battery is at 75%, I don't understand...
I don't let the apps sync automatically and I use wifi only, everything is setup not to drain the battery, no problems till the last few days...I have installed GO launcer a month ago but I don't think it could be a problem, it worked all well till now.
Any thoughts or suggestions what to do?
When you go to settings, about phone, battery usage, what does the statistic point out as the biggest user? You can also download battery monitor widget to see what is usung what.
Goodluck
It says display 58%, cell standby 15%, voice calls 14% (3 voice calls), phone idle 13% (for 4 hours after disconnecting the charger), this last one, phone idle, seems to much considering others?
Anyway, I have powered off the phone, pulled the battery out and put it back in, seems the situation is better, I will see later on.
Now I remember that few days ago the phone got frozen and I had to pull the battery out to restart it because I couldn't restart it regularly. I think it is after that the battery draining problem has begun, is it possible?

Battery/Phone Shutting Down

Recently had to replace battery.
Phone was shutting almost immediately after it was disconnected from charger. Charging status when not switched on showed the battery kinda going in reverse. Phone was really odd as it would suggest the battery had 100% charge and then within minutes of disconnecting it was shutting down.
I tried a factory reset/refresh with no change. So I ordered a Genuine replacement battery off flea bay and installed that last Thursday.
Initially phone seemed ok, then wen a bit weird and shut down even though charge was like at 70% or so. Wouldn't restart until plugged in and then in shutdown mode the battery/charging indicator would show 0% and then very quickly showed 70%. Good bit though was it was going up and not down like before.
Fully charged phone overnight. It then seemed really good and lasted until Tuesday with 66% charge still showing. I had not installed FB or Twitter which made a huge difference. Then yesterday it just shutdown again. When plugged in showed 0%, within minutes back to 70% and then charged to 100% in the space of an hour or so.
So I am looking for any advice. Is this just calibration issues that the phone needs to get past. Is it possible the phone has corruption int he ROM.
I appreciate it might be a hardware fault but seems weird that the replacement battery is clearly showing a big improvement suggesting battery was EOL after 2 years use.
TIA

Same problem here i will try to install the oficial rom of xt890 if works i back here if not i don't know what to do
Sooo............issue is still present. Odd thing which I am unable to confirm, due to rnadomness of shutdowns, it that I think it is slowly learning the state of the battery as it originally was shutting down at 70% after 2-3 days on standby. then 66% hen 56%. I did a clear cache partition and a fresh install but still the issue was present.
Clearly the new battery is lasting longer than the old one, just the phone does not seem to know to reduce the charge indicator all the way to 0%.
Anyone any idea why this might be happening.
TIA
G
Just to add i'm having the same problem.
Symptoms started last week running the stock kitkat rom so i ordered and a fitted a new battery. Initially everything looked good phone said 100% left it over night and noticed it had shut off when i came back to it. Plugged it in to the charger and it said 0% so i charged back to 100%, booted up android and almost immediately it begins discharging rapidly, i would say within 15 minutes its back down to 0%.. I've done this a few times now even left it on charge overnight for 8 hours but its still discharging rapidly everytime. The craziest thing is even if it says 0% in android i can still boot in to recovery and flash away so clearly there is charge in the battery its just android thats out of sync.
What i've tried so far:
Different wall chargers/USB leads/Outlets
Wiped everything in TWRP and flashed CM11
Factory Reset several times
Various battery calibration apps
My next step is going to be trying RSD to flash the stock ROM but beyond that i dont know what to do.
I'm experiencing EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE with my Razr i, replaced the battery and it's still discharging very fast
Eventually managed to resolve my new battery issue simply by fully charging and discharging several times. It started to hold charge after the 7th charge and after several more discharges it's now up to full capacity.

Battery Just Dropped from 75% to 32%. In About Half an Hour.

According to the battery usage screen, about 15% of the battery has been used. And yet, it's in freefall. At 34% I got a low battery warning saying the battery would only last another three hours, even though it was dropping about 1% a minute.
Just randomly happened today. Left it unplugged overnight with Sleep as Android running, woke up to about 70% battery, started browsing on Chrome and Talon for Twitter, and 15 minutes later I had 20% battery. Plugged it in, got it back up to 75%, had to go out. Felt it get hot, checked, saw it was still dropping dramatically. Turned it off, left it to cool, turned it back on, and it continued dropping.
I had it turned off for a while to cool down after I'd plugged it in, as well.
Battery Usage does list Sleep as using 22% battery, but that's since the last full charge so I assume includes what it did overnight, which jives with having a percentage in the 70s when I awoke. Talon, Chrome, Facebook, TiBu, and a couple of other apps are listed as using 1-2% of the battery. That's it.
WTF is going on?

I think the battery might need to be replaced...after I charged my phone to 100% and then reboot, it will show 69% or 70% after the reboot -_-|. Also when the battery % drops down below 50%, my phone could switch off anytime - and then when I switch it on again, the battery is like 1%. I am using this phone as a backup just to receive messages so I don't mind it too much. If you use it as a main phone maybe it is time to upgrade to a newer model...the battery on regular Pixels were not so good even when new...
When the phone is off charge it to 100% then use it until it dies completly, then try to start it couple of times(it should just show a battery low icon or turn off while booting). Then charge it to 100% again while turned off.
This should pretty much reset the electronics in the phone. If it still does it replace the battery.
P.S.: Also look at the phone from the sides to see if you notice any glass poping (just in case the battery has started to expand)
