Apple recently announced iOS 9, the next-generation of its iPhone and iPad operating system. iOS 9 will go head to head with Google's Android M at the top of the Android phones and tablets market, so we decided to compare and contrast the two leading mobile platforms, in their next-gen form. Eyes down for an iPhone vs Android face off, in our iOS 9 vs Android M comparison. We compare iOS 9 vs Android M for release date and compatibility, Apple Pay vs Android Pay, and new features in iOS 9 and Android M.
We will be updating this story as we go. And be sure to head to the comments field to let us know of any other comparisons you'd like us to make, or any other observations you have to make about iOS 9 and Android M. (See also: 10 best Android M new features.)
yeah Apple iphone gets five years of update cycle.
Android gets two years of update cycle. i wonder why?
Incredible feat for a phone with a new OS and released in only 2 countries.
Android may be in trouble. Tizen is a far more optimized OS than Android.
Hi!
So i have a Pixel 2, not receiving security updates anymore for over a year and it's probably time to do something about it. Never flashed it or any other phones for that matter. I use exclusively Linux (I don't have access to any Windows machines). My wife has a Pixel 3, so it'll probably need the same 'fix', though she uses a lot of apps for the play store, I don't much.
A few questions to start:
- is play store access kept?
- Any stupid-proof guide to do that with my lack of experience?
- Which ROM should I go for?
I use mainly some chat apps, Google 2FA, my banking app, some IOT original apps for setup with home assistant, google photos which i could probably replace (not a photo guy).
Thank you for your help in the matter.
I would say that Lineage OS would be your best bet but I would caution that some bank apps are very particular and you may want to think about moving onto a new phone if you are serious about longevity.

This. If you need working SafetyNet, your best bet is to continue to use a stock ROM. Since Pixel devices are only supported for 3 years, you may want to consider upgrading to a new device. I upgraded from the P2 to the P5, and upgraded my wife's P3 to the 5a. Google often has sales associated with new device releases; we paid $400 for my wife's 5a, then got a $73 credit for her P3.
I am also a newbie and was really interested in crDroid or ProtonAOSP. Does anybody have an opinion on that?

Hello there,
I live in Malaysia and recently, I bought a note 20 ultra 5G. I bought it online and device works fine. I wanted to update the device but it kept saying that my device is up to date which is false because I am running Android 11 with 1 July 2021 Android Security Patch Level. I found out that since this device is carrier based (AT&T), and in order to update it, I need to be in the United States, running the phone with an AT&T SIM. I obviously have no intentions of going to the United States solely to update my phone. I tried searching for answers and found no results. I'm too scared of simply flashing the latest AT&T firmware with Odin, fear of the device being bricked with no way of me restoring it or for some reason the device will be carrier locked and I can't use my Malaysian SIMs in the phone anymore. My current baseband is N986USQU2DUF2.
Is there any way that I can update the phone? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
edit: I meant to type "Android 11 with 1 July 2021" it has been fixed.
Rule #1 if a OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission, let it be.
Upgrades, updates can and do break devices.
This silly stock N10+ hasn't been updated in 2.5 years and is running happily on Pie. Current load will be 2 yo in June with only minimal maintenance. Security is not an issue.

I hear you. Don't be crying about poor performance, loss of usability and functionality.
No roll back if the bootloader is updated and then you are boned if the upgrade turns into a downgrade.
My opinion is:
10 is a wash, you lose some functionality and what you gain doesn't make up for what you lost.
11 takes away more than it gives.
12 is a fubar. A complete mess. UI, speed suck and it excels at puking on its users.
13? come on... can't you see where this is going?
Testing it first before sacrificing your device be best. Dumb gf's can be useful...
For new versions wait at least a few months to see what users say.
Buy an Apple instead, 12 is a bad copy of Apple's lame restrictive scoped storage security
