WiFi in airplane mode causes reboot - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey all,
My apologies if this is somewhere on here already. Basically from what little I can find on this issue, I’m hosed so I’m throwing a Hail Mary at you folks:
I am traveling right now and my G930U (service with sprint), Android 7.0 will crash after about 30-45 seconds after connecting to a WiFi (secure or not) network in airplane mode. Once it reboots, it has several weird quirks (e.g. the keyboard doesn’t work, can’t turn off WiFi, etc). If I leave it like that, with the wifi network in auto reconnect, it’ll do that until it’s out of battery. Sometimes I get a box saying “com.android.systemui has stopped working” but not always. The only way so far I can break it out is in the 30-45 sec window attempt to turn off the wifi and the manually shut it down. Then it comes back up normal normal. If I take it out of airplane mode, and connect to wifi, all is well with one caveat: I have to have service. If there’s no service, welcome back boot loop.
The reason I say I’m hosed is because the only solution I’ve been able to find is to factory reset the phone. I’m (obviously) unable to back up anything over wifi and I’m going to be gone without service for the next several months so needless to say I’d rather only do that as a very last resort.
Any help is monumentally appreciated and if there’s any other info I can provide I gladly will.
Thank you!

[Q] Liquid 3.2 = dead wifi/gps

I just upgraded my Droid X to Liquid 3.2 (full SBF to 602, ota'd to 605, rooted, then flash to Liquid). I love the ROM, but it appears that my wifi and GPS are now broken. Wifi tries to turn on but then turns back off after a second or two; GPS won't even attempt to come on. Anyone know a fix for this?
Edit: I rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and Dalvik cache, and tried again. Now the GPS appears to be working, and the wifi stays on. However, when I try to connect to my home network, it drops off after a second or two (once it connects, it keeps scanning, and then it disconnects). I logged into my router and saw that my phone was briefly hitting it, but all the router log showed was the transfer of an IP address, nothing useful for troubleshooting. Does anyone know of a log file on the phone somewhere that might indicate why it keeps dropping off of my wireless network (yes, I've double checked the password, and yes, the wireless network is functional right now).
I'm out of guesses at this point, so I'm hoping someone else can help me out.
Hm. It gets curiouser and curiouser...
I've been tinkering throughout the day, and if there is any generalization I can make, it's that between wifi, GPS, and airplane mode, one of them (occasionally two, but never all three) will work at any given time, but every time I reboot a different combination starts working. Go figure.
Help anyone?
you got same problem i got. let me know what you figure out. I will post if i figure it out
I could not figure out wifi, so I went to vortex. I like the liquid but the wifi is a big problem and I did not have a lot of time to mess with it right now. I may by another droid x just to mess with things of this nature. If anyone comes up with wifi solution please post.

Nexus 5 WiFi Crashing Phone

Hi all. I have a weird issue that after Googling it doesn't seem anyone else has had.
The issue started earlier today, in the morning. I was using my phone on the WiFi and it was working phone, then my phone crashed, restarted itself.
I noticed it wasn't connected to the WiFi, went to the WiFi settings and where it usually says the list of networks it said "Turning on WiFi" and the slider at the top was greyed out so I couldn't turn it off.
I tried airplane mode and that didn't help. But the phone was working fine on my mobile data so restarted.
Now the weirder part starts. I basically have an issue where, if I turn on the WiFi, my phone crashes, or doesn't act like it's turning the WiFi on.
Even going Settings and then pressing on the WiFi option freezes the phone.
The problem started when I was still using 4.4.4 however since the problem developed I've used my mobile data to download the updates and now have 5.1.1 I think.
The problem persists even after updating to the most recent version and doing a factory restore. The phone is currently completely stock with nothing downloaded on to it. All I did is go through the first time setup for the device.
The WiFi currently is off, and the phone is working however it won't connect to my data, it has the signal bars and then an ! instead of a 4G icon.
If I try to turn the WiFi on it crashes the phone.
The phone is still under warranty so I plan on contacting LG on Monday however it's currently 3:34 AM on a Sunday so I have a day until I can call them and was hoping for a solution in that time.
Thanks in advance. I have the phone to hand so anything you want me to test I'm able to.
There is some information I didn't type as I don't know what is important was trying to avoid a wall of text so if you have any more questions I'll answer I best I can.
Thanks for reading, I hope you can help!

Wi-Fi/LTE doesn't start working until phone is on for some time

Hello everyone,
I have had my E6653 since mid October, and it was working well, however once I flashed a Taiwanese 32.0.A.6.152 firmware I have this bug. Let me describe what actually happens:
1. All stamina modes turned on (clock, extended standby, extended usage)
2. Start using the phone after it sat idle for some time, sometimes even 10 minutes is enough
3. Whatever app you were in, if it requires internet connection, it won't work. Switch apps, try to use internet connection and it still won't work.
4. Wait for somewhere around 15 seconds, and internet connection kicks in.
It happens when I'm both on LTE and Wi-Fi. I have already tried repairing my phone, and flashed 3 different firmwares (CE, Taiwan, UK), but nothing helps. I have seen someone on reddit with a similar problem, but for them it only occurred when they were connected to Wi-Fi.
Has anybody else experienced this? If yes, were you able to fix it?
Thanks for your time!
I was able to fix it by waiting 15 seconds.
Seriously, turning back on the radios and acquiring an IP address isn't instant. Just be happy you have a phone with Stamina mode available if you want it.

I don't think you understood what the problem is. I have LTE and Wi-Fi turned on all the time, never turn either off. Stop using a phone for 10 minutes, turn the screen back on, unlock it, try to use internet connection and then it fails. It hasn't happened on the previous version of the firmware when I had all stamina modes turned on, and it certainly isn't normal. It's a bug, and I was asking if anyone knows the fix. Waiting 15 seconds is not one, unfortunately.
Well one of us isn't getting the issue for sure and I don't think it's me. However, I've been wrong before
You said:
"1. All stamina modes turned on (clock, extended standby, extended usage)"
but also:
"I have LTE and Wi-Fi turned on all the time, never turn either off."
Stamina mode says about Extended standby: "Saves power when the screen is off by temporarily disabling Wi-Fi and mobile data".
These two statements are in disagreement.
So you put the phone down for a few minutes (presumably the screen goes off too), then Stamina mode kicks in and turns off Wi-Fi and mobile data. You wake up the phone after 10 minutes or so => you need to wait for radios to fire up and acquire IP address.
I'm not seeing anything wrong or unexpected with this behaviour...
I've noticed this more aggressive stamina mode myself. In all honesty I can't see a problem with it, it's putting the phone into deep sleep a lot faster (10 seconds or so in most cases) than it was on the firmware before. If it is happening across many different firmwares it is safe to assume that's how it is meant to be functioning. If, in the next firmware, it goes back to how it was it was a bug.
This behavior is different to earlier Xperias so it surprised me as well. In addition the phone shows you still connected to the network which makes it more difficult to determine.

WiFi cycling off and back on every so often, and sometimes disabling itself

Sometimes my WiFi goes away, LTE kicks in for a second, and then WiFi comes right back. I don't know for certain, but it may only happen when the phone has been unused for a while, right after I first pick it up to do something. But I have the WiFi power saving option turned off, so that WiFi should stay on all the time. And I seem to recall it happening just at random sometimes, too, in the middle of browsing websites or social media apps. It'll say "no connection" and I'll look up and see LTE kick in, then WiFi come right back, then I'm all good. It's very annoying.
On top of the quick WiFi cycling issue, sometimes WiFi will just completely stop working. When I go into settings, it says it's disabled and I can't turn it back on. Going in and out of airplane mode fixes it. This only happens about once a week or so. The other issue is by far more annoying.
Anyone else experiencing either of these? I'm on Verizon with a black 128 GB stock, unrooted, if it makes a difference.
Thanks!
I personally haven't seen this on my VZW Pixel although I use it with T-Mobile service. These are as suggestions only, and it may or may not help, but you could try using any order below.
1) The setting to keep WiFi during sleep is on, right?
2) Have you tried to use your phone without sim card in it and see if WiFi is still acting strange?
3) I would also suggest to go to Settings>Google>Networking and see if you have WiFi assistant on or off. There is a setting under advanced as well.
4) Does it happen on all WiFi networks or when using on particular one? You could forget that network and then join again.
5) Alternatively you could "Network settings reset" under Settings>More>Network Settings Reset - after the reset, you may need to rejoin all the networks, pair Bluetooth devices and so on.

WiFi appears to be stuck... Causing all manner of weird behavior.

So, I bought a cheap "4k action camera" to play around with. It has wifi, and I was working on getting it connected to my phone .
While doing so, the wifi on my phone sort of.. hung. I couldnt switch to my usual wifi network, it was just sit and spin, eventually wifi stopped showing my networks altogether. If i open ip the wifi settings, the indicator just spins, i cant turn off wifi, and no networks are listed. After doing so, I cant even shut down my phone without holding the power button for 10 seconds.
I'm just trying to get this cleared up, anyone have any suggestions? I have my phone connected via ADB, but it's stock, no mods, no root. I've considered a factory reset, but I'd like to avoid that if I can.
Thanks!
Well. After a few hours of fighting with this, I ended up unlocking (which of course wiped my phone). This way I'm free to root or flash in the future without that being a barrier again. The wipe, of course, resolved my problem.
I'm trying to decide if I want to jump straight to a custom ROM now or not, before I get too deep into getting my phone set back up. Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading!
