[Q] Phone issues after flashing Gapps.zip

My friend has a Captivate. He lost all his google apps, android market, gmail, etc. He flashed gapps.zip from his recovery and now his phone is not working right. When he flashed a new rom to his phone, and it brought up the welcome screen it shows it for about 2 seconds and then reboots. He is also almost unable to access the recovery becuase of this, but even when he finally was able to access it and wipe everything, dalvik, cache, data/system, it still has issues. Nothing is fixing the issues from the gapps.zip. He was wondering if there is a way to wipe his entire phone from a update.zip file. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Please note that even when he wipes everything in recovery and flashes a new ROM, it still reboot on the welcome screen and he is unable to resolve this issue.
Ok, so he has now wiped all cache and system files, now instead of showing teh galaxy S logo with the cyanogen logo underneath, it shows just the AT&T screen, but it will not go any furhter, it just sits there. He says that because he is now unable toget into android he cannot access the recovery and the volume up/down is not responding. Is his phone Bricked?

Have you used Odin 1-click to revert back to stock?

had my friend use the Odin 1 click and he said it still did not work. He cannot get the volume up/down trick to work, when before all this it worked just fine. I am going to guess that the only thing he could try is the jig method. He swaers that Odin3 is not doing anything

[URGENT] Every reboot results in a factory reset

So today my droid started messing up, home and recents button didnt work. Google play store and whatnot couldnt access data, the signal status bar at the top was just grey.
So i factory reset it. During the reset it just sat there on the little screen with the spinning hexball thing for like an hour so i shut the phone off. Now every time the phone boots it just tries to wipe it again unless i go into the boot menu and hit normal boot.
Running stock rom and whatnot, but im rooted.
I know that theres a flag somewhere that it reads on boot saying to wipe it, but dang if i know what to change.

Well i unrooted my phone and tried to let it redo the factory reset again, and it still just wont do anything.

When this happens to me, it's because of a bad flash and a factory reset won't fix it. I would suggest reflashing stock...

I dont have a custom recovery or an unlocked bootloader.
I managed to get the problem sorted out through some unrooting and some non stock system file deletion. Installed safestrap and got blurry hd running on it now.

[Q] Recovery Mode Wipe data/factory reset loops after a while. What to do?

I experienced the infamous boot loop problem on my Nexus 5. I'm running stock android, and it started after the battery was depleted overnight - and after I recharged the phone.
First I tried to to just clear the cache in Recovery Mode. It went into a long loop where every other second a flash would appear on screen with the 'No Command' screen. I decided to abort that after 30 minutes and try a Wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode.
It seems to work fine in the beginning, but after a while it begins with the same loop, where it occasionally shows the 'No Command' screen.
Seems like there is broken hardware - or do you have any ideas what the reason may be and how to amend it?

Try to reflash all stuff with google factory images and check if your problems still exist.

What do you mean by "It seems to work fine in the beginning"? You're able to boot into the OS? Could be a faulty/broken power button which might be causing the bootloop as well.
Anyways, as mentioned above, flash the factory images to rule out the possibility of a software issue.

I would recommend unlocking your bootloader, flashing a custom recovery, doing a wipe with that and then flashing a stock nandroid.
If you aren't good with adb, and you don't have an OTG cable, I would look into how to flash the factory images from Google first, then once you're all set with that do the above.

Thanks guys. I decided that I would invoke my warrany from Google and get a new phone.

Phone soft bricks when I enter recovery mode...

First off, I am new to the forums, and really hope I am posting this in the right place.
Anyway, do my problem is, that I was trying to install the xposed app, and I have to install my zip file in my recovery mode, however, even if I enter the recover mode, then reboot without doing anything, or if I do anything, when I reboot, when the phone is on, every app I have installed, starts not responding, and my screen is just black. I would really like to know if anyone else has this issue, as I was having troubles finding others with this issue. Thank you guys for all the help. I have also dome multiple factory resets, and have gone back to the recovery directly after a reset, and it still caused everything to crash. Have cleared cache. Any other help is greatly appreciated, thanks :good:

Try wiping cache and dalvik cache.

Maybe post some details? Like model number, BL/CP version, Recovery version, ROM etc.

Issues flashing stock with odin J700t

I have a question, dont really know where to ask. I have the tmobile j700t, and I've tried restoring with odin, (with the j700t firmware of course) and im not sure if its doing everything. Everything seems to go fine in odin, flashes boot, modem, system etc. reboots, rebuilds cache, then it just goes to my original lock screen with my custom wallpaper and all my apps still on. I can do a factory reset after, but it doesnt seem to do anything but clear the cache. Am I missing something? I enables OEM UNLOCK and USB debugging before hand.

The inability to make write changes sounds like a bad NAND issue, you could try flashing with a .pit file but the phones internal memory could be physically damaged.

Try clicking the Nand erase all box and unclicking auto reboot. Flash the factory ROM and when it completes hold volume down, home and power buttons until the screen goes black. This is important, as soon as the download screen is gone you need to hold the recovery buttons (volume up, home and power) so the phone can erase all system data and update itself the way it's designed to after flashing a factory update. If the device reboots before you enter recovery you have to start over. Hit thanks if this helps bro.

well that seems to have fixed it, weird though, when I rebooted into recovery like you said, it did an update, there was a progress bar, then it rebooted, and rebooted AGAIN, did an "update" and then rebooted. Weird, I usually see it say "updating" but then it will stop and you can bring up the recovery menu. Never seen a progress bar and then it just reboot twice. Well anyway it seems to have worked so thank you!

Whenever you flash back to stock or update a stock firmware through official means, it automatically boots into recovery and erases the system you have in place, very similar to TWRP. If you try to flash a stock firmware without erasing everything you will always run into some kind of incompatible memory error. The screen you're thinking of is just the stock recovery checking your system and OTA's for an official upgrade. Glad I could help man.
