The competition is set to heat up further with both HTC and Nokia rumoured to be releasing a phablet each by the end of the year and even Apple reportedly working on screen sizes of up to 6-inches
On top of that, there’s increasing competition from Chinese brands such as Huawei and CoolPad with low cost sub $US200 phablets. So plenty at stake here for Samsung and the Galaxy Note 3 just might let it hold on to the phablet crown for now.

I think that in order to assure competition stays behind, all Samsung has to do is reduce Gnote3 abusive price..
Are you listening Samsung people?

Go get one of the cheap a$$ $200 phablets with 1gb of ram , etc ...there is no comparison those are just cheap knock offs ... yes htc is finally going to make one haha 3 years after the first and of course apple is going to inovate the whole world with their Iphablet somehow it will be the first according to every fanboi ... You get what you pay for samsung has 3gb of ram yes it could have a non pentile screen but it will be a great device

I think that a 700 euros ($930 )pre-order price, is abusive no matter what, even for a state-of-the-art, high-end super smartphone...
Let's see how its price will look like over a couple of months from now.
Gladly, as a owner of the excellent GNote2, I am not in a hurry.
It's not about value or quality comparisons, is about strategy...

Samsung (or any other manufacturer) will get away with the highest pricing they think the market will bear. There's no doubt the price will drop over time. It's kind of like buying a new car. If you buy it at the beginning of the model year you'll pay top dollar. If you buy it at the end of model year after the next generation's been announced you'll pay a hell of a lot less. You quoted what's happened to N2 pricing now that the N3's out.
As for the N3 vs. other phablets you do get a lot for the abusive price
32GB of NAND and 3GB of RAM
An inductive Wacom-esque display for inking and a Synaptics overlay for using some air-control features without needing the pen
Sensors for accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature, humidity, gesture
The new Qualcomm Envelope Tracking power saving chip
USB 3.0
MHL 2.0
4.3 (a short lived benefit)
Top tier components of the highest quality and "newness"
A removable battery which adds design complexity and cost
Samsung's army of s/w (though not everyone uses all the features)
Samsung's devices generally have a good durability record
The Note-series has always been aimed at "creation" and "productivity" and because of S Pen/S Note doesn't really have a lot of competition. All the other phablets that are out and coming out are really just giant versions of each manufacturers phone family and focused on consumption. So people who really want a giant phone have lots of choices. People that appreciate S Pen/S Note will pay the abusive price. I'm one of those people and if it weren't for S Pen/S Note I'd have a 4.7/5.2" standard-size phone and there's no guarantee it would be a Samsung. The N2 sold 15-20% of what the SGS3 did. If Samsung can abuse that same percentage of people to go for a N3 it'll be a hit. Time will tell.
Unless competitors add extensive stylus capabilities there will be no other phablet I consider in my phone quest. If I wanted a regular smartphone I'd opt for a S4 or something of the like. The productivity potential of the Note puts it above the competition for my use

Hey man, you promised me then, to always quote my posts integrally   .
I know you are in love with with the GN3 ( or..are you a Samsung share holder?) and of course if I have to choose among an abusively priced HTC or an abusively priced Sony or an abusively priced Samsung like the GN3 I will always go for the GN3, since, just like you, I am also impressed with its specs and being a GNote series user since the beginning and all, however ...
An abuse is an abuse no matter what...( and the damn Apple is the one that started this trend of abusive prices, among other crap....).
And I am very optimistic that I will keep the willpower and wait as long as possible till prices get a lot less abusive and hoping to sell my excellent GN2 for a good price around then.
A buddy of my already laughed and said I won't be able to wait that long and will get that beast sooner than I think...but I am trying....
And if I wait too long I will probably will get the GN4 instead, with a (probably) flexible screen, abusive price and all
My primary goal is: resist all temptations and I have a very good phone right now to help me to achieve that.
At least we agree that the prices are abusive.
Do you hear Samsung? Abusive!
Anyway I am hopeful:
Here in Holland the Galaxy S4 is already 100 euros ($130) cheaper than the HTC one....and guess which one keeps selling way more?
Better + better price = competition killer.
And that's what I meant with that part of my post that you left behind in your quote:

Krishan,
You have brought up some interesting points.
I do think that Samsung have got away with it because the NOTE series is still unique, in my mind. No one else has really managed to get such good integration of a stylus. I hope that some of the competitors do get much better in the Phablet category.
As an owner of the NOTE1 I decided not to get a NOTE2 but I am very keen to get the GN3. I am still willing to pay "TOP Dollor" because no one else gives me this type of passage. However I expect by next year it will have changed. Because a lot of companies are now paying serious attention to this category of device.

Back in the day (in non-phone geek's eyes), if you had an Android phone, you had a "Droid." Now, if you have an Android phone, you have a "Galaxy."
Back then, you would pay top dollar for a Motorola Droid, since that is what people thought of when they went to purchase an Android phone. The Galaxy series has since (by far) taken the spotlight when it comes to Android. Therefore they are doing what any successful corporation would do; taking advantage of the popularity and charging more for the name.

See, I quoted your entire post.
As for "love," I love my family, dogs, and closest friends. My devices are my devices. I'm excited about the N3 because I think it's cool and I've had my N7100 since November (a long time for me) and am itching for something new.
Here's part of my rationalization for buying early when prices are higher. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like having the newest tech before everyone else and showing it off. The life cycle of devices used to be about a year but now the DNA and N4 are considered ancient and the SGS4 and One aren't even "new" anymore; at least on XDA. So if I pay 20% more to have a new toy earlier and get to show off a bit I consider it worth it. YMMV of course.
P.S. - I swore I wouldn't but I pre-ordered a Gear when I found out you can shake it to turn it on which a lot of reviewers missed. It'll go well with my N3 and 3G Note 10.1 2014. Sigh. I'm tech addicted.
Samsung has put a lot into this device and certainly it is worthy of the price point. Besides in the US no one pays full price unless they want to. I have done it many times, but I opted to use my upgrade this time around.
Where's the address for that "techoholic anonymous" ?

iPhone 5s (32gb) - 739 EUR preorder price
HTC One - 661 EUR preorder price
Note 2 - 650 EUR preorder price
LG G2 - 629 EUR preorder price
Lumia 1020 - 699 EUR preorder price
Given the price and specs of the Note 3's competition and predecessor I'm not sure how anyone can be surprised with the pricing. In my opinion, it's the cost of being on the bleeding edge. I don't see how the pricing is abusive when looking at similar devices. Keeping in mind the Note is the only high end device with a Wacom digitizer..

I almost bought the note 5 international version for 589 on eBay the other day. Figured I'd stick with my pure order though but those flagship prices dropping rapidly is great news for consumers.
Big reason I such with the pure is the sd card and non glass black.

Yeah, very much the same reasons except may be I need to add, unlocked bootloader...custom leather back..front speakers...works on all 4 carriers...and may be, just may be, NO BLOAT!...
Or maybe it has nothing to do with the Pure. Maybe it's because more people like and prefer the S6 Edge rather than the regular S6, and they're trying to offload the less popular of the two by putting it on sale.
Just a thought.

Yeah, that's a possibility. But I think Edge is going down too.... MXPE is bringing the house down....
Sales for the S6 have been way down.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/05/20/samsung-galaxy-s6-bad-sales/
I dont think it has to do something with the Pure... I can see huge pricedrops on all Early/Mid 2015 Flashship Phones. Galaxy S6 is down to ~399€ including a cashback that samsung offers here. HTC One is at 450€ - All the 32GB version... So the MOto X is not really a "mid-highend phone with a great price" here in germany. I paied 509€ with Moto Maker. Even the S6 Edge is cheaper
I had the Edge...got tired of the feel of the phone in hand. Curved screen is a gimmick for sure. Had I went with the standard screen to begin with I may not have made the jump to the Pure. Glad I had the Edge because I made the jump and the Pure is by far my favorite phone up to this point. But the S6 is now almost 6 months old! In dog years that's like "ancient" LOL! So I think the price drop is more a result of age than anything else. I also think that's a major reason why nearly all manufacturers are making these things less end user serviceable. They figure with new phones coming out every 6 months who's ever going to need to replace a battery? So they just need to make room for the newest phones now.

Actually, age did not matter earlier. For example, I couldn't find unlocked m8 even after 1 year of its release below 500$. Same thing with S5. S6 price drop has been unusual in my tracking of device prices over the years (since 2008).
I have 200GB of storage on my MXPE.
I can have every app, every game, and whole lot of books, music, and movies, with plenty of room for backups and never have to store stuff in the cloud.
Plus I can OTG another 128GB if I feel crazy.

I get that you love your phone but this is just silly... The S6 price drop has nothing to do with the MPX, in fact the MPX will more then likely not even outsell the S6 though its sales arent as good as previous years, samsung kind of canabalized the S6 sales by releasing the edge at the same time as the S6, also they're about to do the same with the edge after releasing the edge+, but theres also another phone coming out that will outsell every phone out there, you might have heard of it, its called a new iPhone...by your logic the MPX should drop in price too actually all phones should drop in price, since the iPhone will kill everyone elses sales LOL...

Yes, it likely has everything to do with iPhone release.
But in the Android market, MXPE sells for 400$ and is a great phone. Why would anybody spend 600+ if they are looking for an Android phone? I never said MXPE has or will outsell S6. All I said was that S6 may be seeing pressure from MXPE in the Android market. If you don't want the Apple ecosystem, you have every reason to land on MXPE instead of S6. MXPE is just so much a better phone for less. Samsung knows it.

I'd agree with you the MXP is a better phone now but here's the thing that price reduction is from a ebay store, its not a corporate samsung store, u walk into one they'll still charge you the 600+ retail...so while samsung says this is the retail, individuals can choose to sell the device for as high or as low as they want...so my point is i guess this reduction really has nothing to do with Samsung feeling pressure from Moto and more that the individual seller just wanted to get rid of his own S6 stock.
Probably has more to do with this... BTW on that sale there is no warranty from manufacturer...

You don't say? There will be a S7 in the Spring?
Seriously the phone markets are in flux right now. First, upgrades are pretty minimal. Second, subsidies are non existent for man. As such, people are starting to think twice about buying $800 devices, especially when many of their bucket wish list items are getting removed.
So it is no surprise that people are starting to not upgrade for big bucks and hold off or looking maybe to spend 40% less and still enjoy an upgrade.

i dont want to buy Google pixel,xl, because its made by HTC and HTC already closed many their service center in india because of less response, so no support in my area.
iphone 7, since iphone 6s, because got bad reputation in india, because of B GRADE Batches in india, 95% of their phone have dust issue in display and in camera lens, i also replace my 6s for 6 time new boxes, still i was suffering for this issue, apple is sending bad batch in india because people are dont look so closely to dust, but its bad for those who cares about these things especially me,
i want a phone which i can use Long period a high end phone, good to hold and Standard in people, it should not like "cheap phone"
please suggest me ,thanks in advance,
While most of us sit in anticipation of getting there hands on this little marvel I thought I would ask others why did you choose the Essential PH-1? I chose based on speculation of the build quality and updates for clean Android.

Titanium/Ceramic/Bezelless/Stock Android/Andy Rubin/Future potential with software updates.
Though it won't be my main driver since I want great cameras on my phone. But there is a lot of potential and we need to see how it improved with software and if it can keep up.
I just brought this phone because I want to try something new. I currently own the Xiaomi Mi Mix (whole ceramic phone with 6 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of memory, and 18 carat gold rings), the solar red HTC U11 with 6 GB of RAM 128GB memory international version, the galaxy S 8 Plus. I just sold my Huawei Mate 9 Pro (worst desicion I made this year to sell this phone, I should keep it that phone is one of the best phones I got during the past 2 years), One Plus 3T, OnePlus 5, Motorola Z Play with all the accessories, Pixel XL, Huawei P10 Plus. I just have a very bad habit of buying phones and use them for a month or 2, and then just sell those in Swappa or EBay. And I Pre-order the Galaxy Note 8.

Titanium frame, virtually no bezels, ceramic, Snapdragon 835, smaller than my Nexus 6P with the same size screen, no camera bump, durability.
Lot's of reasons including I wanted something new. Also unlocked and not branded by a carrier. I buy phones with boot loaders I can unlock because I own my phone, not the company that makes it or a carrier. That is probably one of the most important reasons.
Nice design like the Apple 5s but larger
Large screen in a small phone
Robust materials - titanium and ceramic touch
Clean Android, bootloader unlocked
Expansion potential with gadgets coming out
Wireless charging
Potentially better sound call in/out and speakers because of no water proofing
Supposedly excellent camera. So far looks excellent on daylight. This, we still have to see for night shots. I don't expect S8 quality photos either.
Intangibles - you'll never know what you're gonna get with Andy Rubin
This phone was made for me - waterproofing, no audio jack, odd front camera, OLED, and Qi wireless are not essential to me so that is just perfect!

I couldn't agree more.
I like different. I bought the Nexus 6P because it was different.
I bought it on launch day as soon as you could order.
I reserved the PH-1 as soon as it was possible. I dragged my feet on paying, but apparently the looked at reservation order and not payment order for shipping.
128gb or storage(no need to every worry about if my sd card is going to up and crap out on me)
Small phone big screen (I have tiny man hands syndrome)
Build quality ( I hate cases )
No bull**** added to the software (Tired of the recycled ideas from one manufacture to the next and who can slow down their phone faster with features I don't care about)
Not priced at close to 1000 bucks.
It is just something different in a world of clones and is refreshing. Also not a fan of the curved screen.
I think the worst part about the launch of the phone is that it has andy rubins name on it. Everyones argument is well this shouldn't happen with the "father" of android at the helm. He may have co created a software program but he has never directly designed a phone from the ground up as far as I know. LIke most companies that start out there will be issues for sure. There are things that are unexpected for someone who is new to the hardware side of things. I am super excited to get this phone! I opened up my screen protectors I got to get an idea of size in hand, its going to be a nice fit. Its for the most part identical the galaxy s5 in size. I was using the phone arena size comparison to find a possible sleeve case to carry it around when im out and about.
Because PH-1 = PH-ONE = PHONE = Phone. Also I am sick of all of the high end phones on Verizon being locked down in the dungeon, and this phone seems to solve that issue for me.

Exactly why I own a Nexus 6P.
I will not buy a phone I don't own. By that I mean, one with a boot loader I can unlock and do as I please.
If the BL is locked, then the carrier or the manufacturer is letting you rent a phone.
They decide when and if you get an update. They decide when the EOL of you phone is.
No thank you.
My choices were going to be Pixel 2, Essential or the new HTC.
All have SD835 but only the Essential has titanium and ceramic.
Hey all, pretty diehard Nexus fan here, but in the Pixel age I've fallen out of love. I've had a Nexus 5 and recently replaced a battery in a 6P, deeply loved both of them. Here I stand in need of a new device, and I can't think of a reason not to to with T-Mobiles BOGO Note 8 offer.
I love big phones and I love stock Android, but even a first Gen Pixel XL will cost me more than the 410$ cost of a half off Note 8. Full body screen, BT 5.0, water resistance, these all feel like worthy trade offs to go into the hell that is Touch-Wiz. I could BOGO a V30 and have a more closer to pure Android experience, but I feel like the V30 is all around a much more lackluster device from the reviews I've seen.
Anyone have a point I might have not of considered?
