Hi, I bought a Motorola One Power 2 weeks ago. Although everything is good about this phone, the only problem I encounter is that OTG videos don't show up in MX Player but all of them do show up in Strorage/Gallery and I can even run them but it's inconvenient to play videos from gallery. Does anyone have a solution to this? I've searched a lot and found none.
P.S. MX Players plays OTG videos in my other smartphone HTC Desire Eye running android Lollipop.
P.S I bought a new sandisk 128 GB USB type-C OTG for this one, also I'm running Android 9 Pie

We regret the inconveniences. MX Player's OTG support currently depends on the OEM's implementation. If the OTG drive is mounted on a regular location like /storage, MX Player will automatically scan the drive and show the list of files. In several recent devices, it is mounted in a secured location so that third-party apps can't directly access it without some special techniques. As Gallery and Inbuilt file manager's have system level signature, they can access the OTG device without any such restrictions.
However, We will share this issue with our relevant team for further evaluation of the possible improvements in the feature. Meanwhile, your patience is highly appreciated.

No problem, it works now. I rooted my phone and did some tweaks after reading some relevant posts on this forum.

I have same problem with you, cannot detect usb otg in kenzo with custom rom nitrogen os. When in miui it not any problem.
May i know where you found the solutions, maybe it can solved my problem too.
I have the same issue, which I posted some days ago. I would really appreciate a reply from the devs, for an app that is NOT free and we paid for it. Still nothing. At least you got one...

We regret the inconveniences. As we mentioned earlier on this thread, it purely depends on how the device mounts the USB device. If it can be read without any restrictions, MX Player should be able to read and list your files without any issues. However, we have already highlighted this with our relevant team and added to our roadmap. We will do our best on bringing some convenient methods to browse the files when the USB storage is not directly accessible.

Really sorry for the late response, I stopped checking XDA as I rarely got replies here. So here's the solution. I kept it bookmarked in case I need it in future. If your phone's rooted.
1. Open Terminal/ Install one from Google Play Store
2. Type these commands/code:
su
sm set-force-adoptable true
And save.

Please could someone help or explain.I purchased the orbit II last week,I am still getting used to its power and capabilities.
In the manual it says it can play AAC files.I have downloaded some onto the storage card and the touch flo player hasnt recognised them, nor has the windows media player.
It recognises and plays MP3 files. The aac files are not protected they are ones that I downloaded myself from my own cds.
Also why can I not see photos that I have just taken that are saved to my storage card,in the photo viewer on Touch flo.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Peter
pocketmusic can play aac
Thansk for that, but I was looking to find out what the situation was with the phone rather than get a programme that will do something that the manufacturers are saying the phone should do.
I have noticed that the windows media player does add the tunes to its catalogue but files them under ARTIST "UNKNOWN" (as though the tags arent working). The touch flo or HTC player however doesnt even do this.
Does anybody know of a solution to this other than spending money on a progamme to do something that the phone should do already,
many thanks

It's really wierd. I have the same problem and also had this problem with my previous phone which was an O2 XDA Orbit 1 (i.e. rebranded HTC Artemis).
I'm afraid that I never found a solution that didn't involve third party software. I think the problem is that, although HTC have included the decoder to play AAC and AAC+ files, neither of the built in players seem to be able to read the tags from the m4a container format so, although they can play the contents, they can't incorporate the tracks in a meaningful way into the library (I also saw Windows Media Player putting everything as unknown).
I know it's not what you were hoping to hear, and I'd love for someone to prove me wrong, but right now I think you're stuck with going the third-party route.
If you don't want to spend money then I initially used TCPMP. It doesn't have any library browser built in but I found that by intelligent choice of the directory tree structure I used to store my files (My Music/<Artist>/<Album>/<Tracks>) then I could use the file browser in TCPMP to browse my collection in a fairly convenient manner. I now use Conduits PocketPlayer because that has a fantastic library browser and reads the m4a tags perfectly; the program is pretty resource hungry but for now I'm keeping the faith in the hope that they'll address that at some point in the future (their support is good).

Thanks Julian at least I know its a common problem(does 2 handsets constitute common).
I will look into pocketplayer as a solution for the timebeing.I was hoping I wouldnt have to put other apps on that would slow the phone down.
Thanks again

You're welcome.
In most cases putting other apps on shouldn't slow down the phone. The reason apps can slow down the phone (and/or drain battery) can be because they have a Today plugin which, if not well written or if it needs to keep accessing the network, can slow things down. If an app does have a Today plugin (as PocketPlayer does) then you can often disable it (as you can for PocketPlayer).
The other reason for third party apps to slow down the phone is because Windows Mobile default behaviour when you click the top-right "x" button is to minimise the app (i.e. leave it running in the background) rather than close it down completely. Again, in this case an app that does anything significant when it is running in the background can slow down the phone. Clearly a music player needs to keep running while it is playing music but, once finished, you can make sure it is out of memory completely by selecting Exit from the application's menu.
In short, if you're careful to fully close apps when you don't need them, then you shouldn't slow down your phone at all (except so far as having a music player running in the background, whether built in or third party, will always put a drain on the CPU and make other apps run more slowly while the music is playing).

Oops. One big thing I forgot to mention. If you do look at PocketPlayer then don't download the latest version (3.51) from their web site. There is a nasty problem in that build specifically related to playing AAC files on HTC devices that I reported to them and has been fixed in an internal beta for 3.52 which, as the reporter of the bug, I have been given to test. You should email [email protected] and say that you want to use it for AAC on an HTC device and hopefully they (Carrie) will let you try out a beta build with the issue fixed.
The issue by the way is that 3.51 doesn't correctly detect end-of-stream when an AAC track has finished so (a) it doesn't auto-advance to the next track in the playlist because it thinks the current track hasn't finished yet and (b) even worse, if you forget to explicitly turn off your device after you've finished listening then PocketPlayer thinks it is still playing your last track and so the device will not put itself into standby and can drain the battery. The issue is fixed in the latest beta build and as an added bonus it also parses m4a tags natively (in 3.51 you could tag your collection by using an option in PocketPlayer to infer the tags from the filenames used in your folder structure but it now reads the real tags in the latest beta).
There is also one other more obscure problem I'm trying to help them diagnose related to AAC on HTC devices but I've been a bit busy recently so am due to give them some feedback and check status on that today or tomorrow. This may or may not be fixed at this stage, I can probably give more feedback in a couple of days so personally I would hold off until I give you an update. If you definitely want to go ahead with a beta build then I can give you a workaround that works most of the time.

I emailed them this afternoon and got the answer. They've fixed the problem and I'm about to install a new beta to check it's OK. Apparently it was a Windows Mobile bug that they've managed to work around. I'll play with this new update pretty extensively tomorrow so you should get an answer from me in about 24 hours.

I found out some interesting thing: Some files are playing correctly but others refuse to work. I think that has to do with the bitrate of the files. All my m4a-files are bought from Apple Music Store. Most times my files are the unprotected ones with higher bitrate, but I have a few files which were protected (unfortunately I must have lost the copy protection somewhere, I'm really sorry for that ). The protected ones were encoded in a lower bitrate. What I found out is, that all my former protected files are played correctly. So maybe Windows Media Player can only handle files up to certain bitrate which obviously should be lower than 256kbps.
Further test: I created a playlist within windows mobile, but the Audio Manager (Touch Flo) wasn't able to read it. I managed that the playlist was recognized by the program, but it couldn't find any files.
So it is possible to play aac files (up to a certain bitrate) and to create playlists in Windows Media Player without any issues (yet). But I couldn't get it working in TouchFlo.
So, ok, I made half the way. Now it's up to you to make it fully functional.
have the same issue, I see the AAC file in the explorer and can play them from there but they are not loaded in the catalogue. anybody any other idea how to make the visible there? is buying pocket player the only solution?
thanks for the help in advance to everybody

The news isn't as positive as I'd hoped. The latest build has improved the problem (so at least they've identified it and found the right area to make changes) but it hasn't fixed it completely.
The player is still usable with AAC files but there is one glitch. After it's been playing for a while, say about 2 hours, then something seems to get corrupted in the image or via a bug in Windows Mobile itself such that thumbnails of the artwork for the album covers no longer display properly when browsing your music library. With the previous build the device would lock up at this point and require a soft reset so at least they've fixed that problem but there is still some sort of issue unresolved.
The workaround seems to be to just fully exit PocketPlayer every couple of hours and then re-launch it again so it's not too arduous and shouldn't prevent you playing with the trial version (although this partially-fixed beta isn't publicly available so you will need to contact support to see if they'll give it to you and given that it still has a known issue they might just ask you to wait a bit).
I'm obviously still working with them to try and 100% nail this issue.

Hello
*#*#*# BEFORE YOU READ ON only people who have a wind mobile xt720 and dexters uk 1.2 upgrade need to read on*#*#*#
I am a noob at this but I spent most of my day researching the dexter uk upgrade 1.2 (2.2.1) and how to properly install it and I have some questions
I have seen some people saying they have issues with 720p recording(i.e not being able to get 720p resolution and only sd res) and some having issues with music playback.
Can anyone with a wind xt720 confirm these issues? If they are true or not? I ask because there seems to be alot of conflicting reports.
I would cry if something happend to my music playback abilities and I dont want to lose out on the 8 megapixel camera or its 720p hd recording.
If you need any more info just ask and THANK YOU to anyone who maybe able to help me.
And of course ALL HAIL DEXTER and what he has done for everyone who has the xt720 already

Not only ppls from Wind but over the whole world trying Dexter's ROMs have this issue where HD video recording is not recording anything. Just now Dexter said he's fixed that problem and will upload the patch soon.
So, if u don't want to loose ur 720HD, wait till the final stable release has come out. Just now, Dexter has not finalized his work yet. We're just helping him to try out the ROM and reporting the bugs to him.

version 1.2 is detecting ext2 correctly. I'm currently using it. Dexter remove Media Gallery coz currently it cannot playback videos. if u need for other purpose, download the app and install it.
As spider mentioned, there is a patch for the HD encoding. I haven't tried it myself yet though as it is not a big issue for me. I will eventually once I have tested out all of my favourite apps. So far I love froyo, it is much easier to customize the phone to how I like it. A couple of the apps I used on 2.1 don't have a froyo version, but most of them I don't need any more as the functionality is already built in.
I'm also on WIND mobile in TO btw, and my install was very smooth.
I forgot my USB cable that day and ended up doing it all over the air.
THANK YOU EVERYONE I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!! Thanks.!!!!!
I am going to attempt the latest 2.2 update apparently dexter has fixed the 720p recording, i tell ya this guy is a genius!!!!
i will give you an update when I complete the updgrade.
media player issues
Hey again,
I completed the updgrade and I love the new 2.2.1 1.2a but now I am having a major issue,
before I did the upgarde I moved all my musc to my computer and backuped the device through motorola medialink(MML), the first problem came when medialink did not recognize a playlist I had created on the phone. I said no problem I will just remake it. Well now I restore the backup to the phone and only have 70 of my 1000+ songs showing up in the music player, none of my playlists show up either, although when I plug the phone into my comp MML recognizes all the songs and my playlists as being on the phone, I can even play them on the comp. When I disconnect it and restart the phone I dont see any playlists and like I said only about 70 of my songs show up, I have tried three different mediaplayers to solve this issue with no luck,
CAN ANYONE HELP ME??????

There is a known issue with media scanning in 1.2a. To the best of my knowledge you can either use 1.2 which will not do 720P recording or 1.2a which has the media issue. If you want to stay with the 1.2a you will need to try a different music player such as MortPlayer (which I believe doesn't do play lists ) or, I've also been watching, kAmMa's Folder Player for Android (which I haven't tried yet).

Some other options... you could consider sticking at 1.1b. It works pretty well, imo.
Or you could use DoubleTwist... which has its own library system... but requires you to use the desktop app to sync.

THanks again for the help !!!!!!
I tried to use double twist media player and I installed the app on my phone and pc, on my pc I made a playlist, transfered the playlist to the phone, it was on my phone until I rebooted then it vanished. Still seems to be a problem with media scanning, I also tried Mixzing basic and the regular music player with no success.
Hey All
I recently subscribed to google music (all access) where you have access to all music and can cache it to device,to play offline! initially brilliant..
but i could never get it to play wireless through my tv/sound system. (i tried many chromecast type apps)
i insatalled "bubbleupnp" via playstore, it also has its own module in xposed which i downloaded.....now all music on device including "google all access" will stream through my soundsystem connected to my network.without the need of a chromcastt dongle
just thought i would share it with y'all

In a way it is, seeing as our phones have limited storage and Google Music allows us to stream all our music from Google's servers. Great space saver!
Sent from my HTC One mini using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
@oskimon. no its not really HTC One Mini specific but neither is some of the other threads within the "theme and apps" section, i just thought
i would share my findings with the rest of the one mini community, afterall XDA is built on information shared between users within the community.
1. I do not have a "google chromecast dongle" nor do i want buy one.
2.I'm fully aware of other "chromecast" type apps but i found "bubbleupnp" in particular to be the one that best suited my needs at the time of OP.
3.Some of these "other" apps failed to play or even recognise my google music, which Im lead to believe this is down to the way that Google caches music on a device.
so... thanks for your input.
@RuffBuster thanks for your support
Hi!
I am wondering what you excatly meant by "my soundsystem". Maybe a Raspberry Pi? It must be a device that can handle UPnP right?
thanks

The error no 2 in Linux denotes that there is no such file/directory exists.
This problem is basically due to the firmware bug. In our tests, most of the file managers have failed to list the files. Some file manager may only work if you grant the exclusive access to the USB device. They will mount with their own drivers. But, the files will not be accessible for other apps. Only very few apps are working without any special permissions. We will investigate further for the possible workarounds.

MXPlayer's main competitor, VLC has figured out how to do this properly with Oreo (VLC also has Oreo's picture-in-picture). For now Mibox users (and other Android TV 8+ users?) can migrate to VLC.
I can confirm X-plore and MiXplorer both work as expected wrt external storage usage.
Hopefully MX Player can catch up to Android O (now that P is coming out)!
I found a workaround to watch the files in MX Player, not a solution but still I can watch my stuff.
I use the ES File Explorer to browse the drive and chose Mx Player as default player, so far it works

Even ES file explorer show as blank until or unless you grant the exclusive access to control the USB drive. When you give exclusive access, the drive is mounted using ES's own drivers. Not the system default one. The drive won't be visible to any apps. We will try to escalate this issue with xiaomi team.
Before update 6 version perfectly saw all hard drives with NTFS. After update 8 version writes"cannot recognize drive". This is a mockery of customers. Nothing more to buy XAOMI!
We are investigating further for a possible workaround for this firmware bug. We will try our best to get it resolved at the earliest.

Update July 6 2018:
The developers of the implementation of the Android TV for the Mi BOX today are working on a new beta and apparently they already fixed the NTFS problem as well as a HDCP 2.2 problem, and they are working on fixing a number of different bugs.
The beta testers group is now closed but, sadly even when the beta where ready the Google Certification takes 1 month minimum

It's already shared with our Private Testers. We will try our best to make it available at the earliest.
fingers crossed and let's hope fixed soon
Well, after trying to debug why Kodi was not recognizing my 5TB Seagate portable HD's for the past 8 hours I am at least happy to have found this thread and hear that Xiaomi has fixed the problem. Not very happy that we have to wait months for Google certification before we can get a fix though.
I currently have 4 MiBox devices that I use as Kodi media centres. The first two I bought in May and they came with Marshmellow and they both worked perfectly. The last two I purchased in July and they came with Oreo pre-installed, but unlike my Nvidia Shield, the Kodi app will not read the HD with all my media content which makes these devices unusable to me. So now I have to return the last 2 Miboxes to Wal-Mart and wait until an update is available for download. Very disappointed that I am not even able to revert back to the Marshmellow version that worked.
I have now learned something about AndroidTV... I thought it was the greatest thing. Now that I see Google has implemented its DRM into AndroidTV by forcing users to re-format their external HD's to secure downloaded content aka preventing you from copying your paid stuff to other devices...I won't be promoting it anymore. When reformatting your external HD it even tells you that you cannot even use it on another device meaning it's impossible to update your media library, same as the Xbox.
@Thirumalai.K - Is there an easy way to get notified when the next update will be available for everyday users?

Hopefully, It will be included in the next update. If you are interested to check the private version, feel free to leave an email to [email protected]. We will be happy to share with you. You can check yourself and share the feedbacks.
Mibox just received an update today which seems to have fixed the external drive problem... Still hoping for PiP support from MxPlayer before the next big thing comes out.
Whenever I try to open any video file in any app using MX Player or MX Player pro. I get a message that says 'MX Player has stopped'
I have attached the logs. Start @ timestamp 13:07 for a test trying to play a video from the internal movie library
This is using Android TV x86 7.1.
VLC plays fine.
Tried MXplayer version 1.8.21. Same issue
Bump.... Anyone?

Apologize for the delay.
We have tried to reproduce the issue on the android emulator with android TV 7.1.1 firmware. But, we couldn't reproduce the issue. Can you please collect the complete system logs using ADB?

Did another bug report which includes the system logs, and used adb logcat for another log report. If there is any other log you need, you will have to give me instructions on how to get it.

We have investigated from our end. But, couldn't reproduce the issue.
Have you rooted the device and changed anything on system partition?
In your logs, we have noticed crashes on some other media related system libraries as well.
We have checked on the Google Play data as well. There weren't any similar crashes reported on the nexus player. MX Player uses several android internal modules for performance reasons. Since you are facing the issues with even older versions, it looks like some firmware bug triggers the issues on MX and some other system libraries that rely on some particular modules. can you please update your firmware to the latest and check again? It may fix your issues.

No I haven't rooted anything, not even sure how to do that. Just installed the Android TV and added apps. Using a third party launcher called 'Top TV Launcher 2'. Also have VLC and mpv players (both work fine)
When you say firmware, are you referring to the computer BIOS or the Android TV? Both are at the latest version I can find, which is not that easy to find for Android TV. Can you PM me a link to the version you are using and I will try it. Thanks.

Are you using the android TV firmware on the PC? Can you provide us more info?
As we have mentioned, MX Player uses several android internal modules to improve the performance. So, if some system module is broken on your Android TV ROM, it will affect the apps that make use of them.
Yes, the Android x86 for PC is the base OS on the PC. I tried other flavors of Android TV and MX Player doesn't work on any of them. I even tried using a different PC with different specs with same results. MX Player crashes as soon as it displays an image or plays any media.
Bump... MX Player still not working. Where do we go from here?
All the Android x86 for PC OS'es are already rooted. None of them will run MX Player. Also Amazon Prime Video and Google Video fails exactly the same way. They must use the same libraries that MX uses. What logs or info can I upload to get this resolved?
All other apps I have tried work fine. VLC, MPV, Archos, ES Player, Kodi.
Any help on this is appreciated. Tell me what logs or info I can upload.
How can I see which modules are crashing? I am not that familiar with the Android OS. Minimal Linux knowledge and a guru with Windows.
Here are the debug logs

Since it's a crash caused by the android internal libraries, it is very difficult to fix this until or unless we find a way to reproduce. Unfortunately, we couldn't still figure out a way to reproduce the issue. We have even tested on the Android x86 (7.1-r2 from http://www.android-x86.org). But, MX Player works as expected. Have you tried this one on your PC?
Yes I have this is the one I am using right now, so I have to assume it is a hardware/driver related issue. I am using a Dell Optiplex 9010 with i5-3570 4GB memory and 128GB SSD drive. What are the specs of the hardware you have used and I will try to duplicate it?
One other clue is that besides MX Player Pro, Amazon Prime video and Google video also crash as soon as you try to open a video. VLC, MPV, Kodi, ES Player, EXO, and Archos all work fine. I am sure the issues are related.
