Enable WiFi calling on ROMs - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hey thanks for reading my post. I've been rooting and installing ROMs since galaxy s2 jellybean era. Though I still need to follow guides, it's one of the most exciting things I find to make Android's greater than the iPhone. What I like best about trying a new ROM is that it's like having a brand new phone. The only thing I seem to be missing which I've acquired since I moved to MetroPCS is WiFi calling. I'm hoping to find someway to get their app to start working on a ROM that I install. I have been able to install it before and sometimes even use the app (input information to enable WiFi calling), but then if I have no service I still will not be able to make a phone call over WiFi. What about flashing a stock modem over the ROM? Would this cause a boot loop if matching Android version stock modem is used?
Please share your experience or knowledge of how something like this would be possible! Thanks
EDIT: it turns out havoc made it work I can use WiFi calling. Sweet!

[Q] Bionix's ROM & Wi-Fi?

Hi all,
I've recently update Bionix's ROM from 1.0 to 1.1, and have lost the ability to do wi-fi calling. I know those guys consider it bloatware, but with the cell reception in my house it's the only way to get calls in/out.
Can anyone point me to a wi-fi install .zip that'll work with it? I tried the one on MIUI's page, but it just craps out on me.
It worked w/ 1.0, so I'm not sure what changed, and I can't post to the dev forums 'cause I just registered.
TIA,
ByTor

Did you read the options? You can install Bloater to install WiFi Calling.
Yeah, I saw that. But when I read up on bloater, it looked like a gps tool (w/r/t the G2X), and I couldn't find much other info on it than that.

Yes, Roman built it to swap out gps.conf on the G2x, but it was originally designed to install bloat, like WiFi Calling. Go to the thread, install it. When you open it, go to G2x (lotherius), then Utilities, then hit install next to Wifi Calling.
Thanks Mr. Apocalypse, and Roman. Success!

Add Wi-Fi calling?

How can I add wifi calling to a ROM? I remember back in my G2 days it was an APK I could simply install... but now this is more baked into the ROM.
I REALLY need it and have been dealing with their tech support to reset the "iHLR" settings. I've switched out my SIM but the TM number doesn't match what I've researched works best with Wifi calling. I've done a good bit of forum searching for anything and every single result didn't have one instance of even the word "calling".
And now my favorite ROM doesn't have wifi calling :crying: lol

WiFi calling on TMobile is terrible. I'm not sure if that was fixed in the latest update. As for porting the WiFi calling feature to other ROMs, it has not been done yet since TMobile has integrated it into the framework (and it works horrible so there is no incentive).
I've never had a good experience with it either, but I need it so bad Stupid feature
It's more than an apk now, it's a couple of lib files.
Wifi in the latest release seems a lot better than the older.
Does Venom's Rom support it? It comes up when I do a "Wifi Calling" forum Search. I don't see it where it usually is, but I did de-sense it so I'm not sure if that effected it or not.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy Tab 2.0 7" (SCH-i705) Questions

I've done quite a bit of researching but cannot find an answer I'm confident in, so...
Has anyone had success getting telephony to work on these devices? I recently updated to 4.1.2 with the OTA update from this forum. However, before I did that, I was on 4.0.4 (factory), then on the DoubleShot kernel and rom. I rooted, unlocked the boot loader, modified framework-res.apk to enable phone (one of the bools files has a line something like "phone_enabled...>false<...". After doing this, recompiling, and reflashing the rom, I was able to place outgoing "true voice calls" -- no Google Voice, no Groove IP, but a REAL voice call (with 1G or whatever the base mode for voice/SMS is). These calls originated from the VZW number associated with the sim card in the Tab. I was NOT able to receive incoming calls or send/receive SMS text. I tried everything I could think of to get these to work -- no go.
---Fast forward, aver several days of flawless outgoing phone calls---
Flashed the OTA 4.1.2 (and TrustZone and the modem) and everything worked initially. Tried to edit the framework-res.apk again, exactly as before. re-applied the update with CWM (and TZ/modem to be safe) with edited framework-res. CWM said successful, but the device would hang on the boot screen.
Any ideas how to enable phone, or why my previous method didnt work with 4.1.2?
Also, if anyone knows how to get rid of the ongoing WiFi notification (even when connected, wifi off, etc), that would be AWESOME! I know some people long-press the notification -> app info -> kill app, and that works until wifi status changes.
I've actually been trying to figure out the telephony thing myself but could not find it. Glad you did! I'll see if I what I can do also. I'd love to enable telephony on this tab and include it in doubleshotrom. Let me know if you figure it out.
For wifi - view this thread regarding the S3 [HACK] Remove WiFi reminder
It used to work on this tab on 4.0.4, don't know if it changed in 4.1.2
I'm glad you saw this thread MrHyde. I've been following along silently in the development forum (almost to 10 posts haha)
Do you have any ideas what the difference might be between 4.0.4 and 4.1.2 that would cause such a different result (failure to boot after flashing)?
I'm going to try going to the DoubleShot JB kernel (hopefully tonight) and see if it helps. Does the new DoubleShot for JB swap the storage mount points? If it does, how can I disable it? Switching back and forth between installs that don't BOTH do this is becoming a problem for me.
For the failure to boot, you need to install the TZ (trust zone). It's listed under the Requirements heading in the DoubleshotROM thread, or you can grab it from the OTA thread.
Yes the new dsr does swap the sdcards. To stop it, three ways:
1. After flashing, use adb (from CWM) or the built in file manager (TWRP) to delete /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd
2. Open up the ROM zip and go to /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd and delete it, then flash
3. Flash it normally, then use a file manager to delete /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd, then reboot.
Edit: just read it again and completely missed the point lol. I dont know why it would fail, but im gonna take a look. Cant imagine its much
Could you tell me exactly which file contained this phone bool? I can't seem to find it..
Decompile framework-res.apk
Look in /res/values/bools.xml
Toward the bottom, a like says something like "phone_enabled=false"
Remember, doing this, I was only able to make outgoing calls--no incoming, no sms.
You mean "config_voice_capable"?
I get a bootloop.. I think the framework-res.apk isn't recompiling properly. logcat just shows a bunch of errors
Yeah that's it. What are you using to repack?
Can you post your error log?
Now that i have time to look into it more, i think it may have something to do with the non-hlos modem we've flashed for the OTA JB.
do you think this is feasible?
Any way to unlock this I705 for using with Tmobile SIM card?
Any breakthroughs here? I would love to use my TAB as a phone.
Any updates on getting telephony to work? What would happen if you flashed the ROM for the Note II onto the tab 2? Or would this work at all? I would really like to make the tab 2 my primary phone.
Thanks.

I am also thinking the same,I just wanted to flash Galaxy S4 firmware in my galaxy tab 2 7"
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda premium
I was able to do it with ICS. Ever since I flashed DoubleShot Rom (JB), I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work again. The method that worked for ICS does not work for JB.
I've only been able to get an outgoing call, but it goes straight to my own vmail. No other success.
Its personally not that important to me, though.

I'm getting really close to ending my 25 year business relationship with Verizon. I'm tired of piss-poor service, even though their coverage map indicated solid 4g signal and their representatives confirm I should have good service at my address. It isn't only my home address, but many other locations bi frequent. So one of two things -- either all 5 devices on my account are defective, or their coverage maps are misrepresented. Either way, Sprint is getting better in this area, has the Note II, and is significantly cheaper. And the Tab 3 8.0 is only slightly longer than the SCH-i705.
Few more questions here.
What did you use to modify the framework-res.apk to enable phone?
What did you use to de-compile, is it a special program or what? Same with recompiling.
I wonder what would happen if you got a SIM card that is used for a phone and used it in the tablet. Would this allow the phone calls and text to come in? This is something I would be willing to try if I could get the tablet to the point that it had the dialer on it.
Next why is it when I go to sammobile.com I am unable to find the SCH-I705 listed at all?
Like I mentioned in an earlier post would it be possible to flash the ROM from a Galaxy Note II or similar phone to the Tab 2?
Thanks.

A SIM card from a cell phone might work if cell data was enabled properly.
sammobile does have 1 firmware version available. I dont know if its still there, but I nabbed it when I saw it.
http://garrettek.com/android/SCH-I705/ROMs/4.1.2/I705VRBLL2_I705VZWBLL2_VZW.zip (VRBLL2 JB 4.1.2 official, tested, working)
No. do not flash Note II ROMs on your tab 2. The ONLY device that is remotely compatible with the tab 2 lte is the verizon gs3. Except, if you flash a vzw gs3 rom, your display drivers won't work properly. Everything else will, but display drivers won't. One way around this is to flash the i705 kernel over top a i535 rom. But even then, no guarantees it won't break your tab.
It worked for me back on 4.0.4 (except the kernel).
Ok, I no longer have verizon service and would like to know if there is a way to switch it somehow so I can use CM/other roms.
Since I dont have the verizon 4g service and only using the WIFI.
Hope I worded that right.

FIXED - Freedompop (Sprint), 4G/LTE and custom ROM

It appears that 4G doesn't work with FreedomPop and most custom ROMs. It seems like either custom roms are detected by FreedomPop and disactivated from 4G, or (more likely) most ROMs have the wrong 4G information wrong for FreedomPop.
It could well be that most roms incorrectly detect the FreedomPop 4G network as Sprint. I know a similar problem exists with Credo Mobile, in which case changing the APN network information solves the issue.
Moreover, on reddit someone claims 4G works on cyanogen 7 but not on later version. Maybe that could help solve the issue?
I'd be very happy if one of you could help me figure what is wrong, or if you got 4G to work with a custom ROM on FreedomPop.
Solved!
Basing myself on the Boost Mobile APN fix, I made a new fix that should give 4G/LTE to FreedomPop users.
Download the FreedomPop fix here.
Just download the fix, put it on your phone, boot into your recovery (I suggest Philz), select Install Zip, and install the fix.
This new fix, compared to the previous one has the benefit of providing an extra APN (n.f6.ispsn) that should give superior performances. Moreover, the fix should be more robust, being based on the Boost Mobile fix instead of the Ting fix. Finally, it will also display "FreedomPop" (instead of Sprint) as your provider.
The previous method is also listed here in case it is of interest to you.
Previous method:
I found a way to get 4G on FreedomPop with Cyanogenmod 11! Just follow these simple instructions:
1. Download the Ting APN fix for Android 4.4 on your PC
2. Unzip the Ting APN fix somewhere.
3. Replace the apns-conf.xml file in system/etc/ directory of the unzipped Ting APN fix with this file: http://www.mediafire.com/view/25xozc3p6okf8zw/apns-conf.xml
4. Re-zip the Ting APN fix (with the modified apns-conf.xml), and put in on your phone.
5. Boot to Philz recovery, select Install Zip, and install the modified Ting APN fix. Voila! 4G/LTE should work (make sure to enable it in settings/mobile networks!)
Note that this will work on the S3, but may not work on other phones. To obtain proper apns-conf.xml file, I recommend you flash to 4.3 stock rom, and copy the apns-conf.xml file from /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file of your android and use that instead for step 3.
Freedompop phone to a Sprint Account
Hey guys, I have a nice Freedompop Galaxy s3 that came straight from FP rooted with their proprietary ROM. But the FP ROM is designed to use VOIP to make all calls and seems to do away with any actual cdma(?) dialer altogether. It's a nice phone for $200.00 and I think I'd like to keep it. But when I tried to activate it on my Sprint account, they get an error on their end and don't recognize it.
This question is for you hardcore developers out there. How can I completely reprogram it to a rooted sprint firmware with a dialer and activate it in place of my older HTC 4G LTE. But also "save" the FP ROM for restore if it won't activate. I have til October to return it, so I thought I'd play.
You should also know 1) that FP definitely runs on the sprint network and seems to work exclusively through their 3g/4g lte service (hence the proprietary ROM and no solid phone connectivity); 2) this galaxy is marked as "refurbished" (in pristine condition) and has no Sprint logo on it all (they asked me about this on the sprint chat site); 3) the battery drained pretty fast and the phone would get warm (my HTC never had these issues, though it seems to be common among s3 owners); 4) but all that being said, it's super fast (cf. to EVO) and I think I might enjoy the upgrade at this price.
Thanks for thinkin on it.Masterhanger

If I understand the issue, you got yourself a FreedomPop phone that you wish to activate with Sprint (NOT with FreedomPop)?
If so, I see two potential issues:
1. Your phone IMEI is with FreedomPop, and thus no longer recognized by Sprint. You'll have to ask Sprint to get your IMEI back, if possible.
2. You are using a FreedomPop ROM, and that ROM doesn't allow Sprint activation. Hopefully the actual phone is the same as the Sprint version and only the ROM is different. If you go to Settings and the model number is SPH-L710 then you are probably good. Try installing a Sprint stock ROM and then activate. I strongly recommend you backup your entire phone (including boot and efs) before you do that through, preferably through Odin - but be warned that you may hard brick your phone.
Works, but no sprint optimizer, profile update, or PRL
Hey Merudo,
I really appreciate the fix, thank you for that! However, as you can see in the title, there is no sprint optimizer, profile update or PRL update. That is really important stuff as the networks changes and upgrades all the time. Is there any way that file can be included too? Maybe I'm missing something, but the Tink fix said that there should be a sprint network update for the profile and PRL next to the CyanogenMod updates in About phone in the settings, but I never saw that when I put that on my phone. I have a Galaxy S3 phone I bought from freedomPop, but I absolutely hated the Samsung ROM so I wanted to flash CyanogenMod and now I'm having problems. I hope you have some ideas or can clear things up. Thanks again for the fix, and I saw your post on CyanogenMod site about this, that would be awesome if they did put this file into the ROM!

Hi ColdHot,
Sadly, profile/PRL update on custom ROM is a problem on all Sprint providers (Including Boost, Credo, FreedomPop, Ting, Virgin Mobile, and Sprint itself).
As far as I know, no custom ROM has built-in support for profile/PRL update for any of these providers.
I believe most people deal with the issue by switching back to a stock rom each time they wish to update profile or PRL. I personally switch back and forth between two full backups I make with Philz Touch Recovery.
Please do tell me if you ever find a better way!

OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!! I've seriously tried everything to get my 4G to work on my cyanogenmod infused freedompop (although its a sprint deivce) even by inputting my own apn's I found on the web. I was seriously even considering switching back to sprint just because 3g speeds just weren't cutting it. This finally did the trick. Thanks so much!
So ur fkashed to boostmobile with a freedom pop lte card in getting 4g lte? And boostmobile 3g and voice??

Wicked X on Freedompop
I was running Wicked Sensations when I switched to FP. Nothing but headaches all around. Couldn't place calls off wifi, no 4G, PRL or Profile updates. FP support was useless at trying to resolve.
I then switched to Wicked X and the phone is running smooth. Optimizer, 4G, PRL and Profile updates are all working fine. I'm getting better battery life than my wife's phone we just purchased from FP running their ROM. Seems to be a good ROM so far for FP service.
Thanks, Merudo.
For anyone wondering, I applied this on a 5.0 rom on my S3 and it seems to work great.

thanks for your information,
can you set the messaging (from freedompop) as defaulted dialer?
I tried the cynammod rom, when I used messaging app to dial the original dialer alway launched out, it is very annoying, so I have to flash back to freedompop rom.
has 5.0 the same problem? thanks!
New Fix Disclaimer
Hey Merudo,
I may get an S4 to use with FP and noticed your old fix had a disclaimer that it may not work on non-S3s. Could you clarify if the new fix has the same disclaimer? I see your comment in the .sh file says it handles universal lte builds but just want to make sure before purchasing otherwise I'll probably just go with an S3.
Not working... loosing my mind=(
I just moved and should be looking for work but, instead, I'm loosing my mind trying to make this work on my Sprint S4 running and, albeit, weekly build of CM12. For the love of god, has anybody figured anything out with that? It's really hard to network when I have no way of getting back to people. Not to mention how much I just spent on this phone.
Please help
I haven't been able to get any APN fix to work for freedompop on any Lollipop rom on my S4.
I get 3G without applying any fix, and either nothing happens, or I can't connect at all when using one of the 3 APN fixes I found.
Not sure why they don't work.
Can't seem to get data 3G/4G to work.
Can't seem to get data 3G/4G to work. When I disable wifi, I lose my Sprint(Freedompop) connection. I cant connect to the internet, etc.
I've tried these so far but nothing worked for me:
Universal_vmu_ApnFix-v.R2.zip
Freedompop APNs fix.zip
I love how fast this ROM is and want to make it my daily use phone.
Is there a specific process for getting it to work? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.
Any advice/help is appreciated.

I tested going to a webpage and it works!! I cannot thank you (shakim24 and XDA) enough!!! Turning the WIFI back on is a little tricky and requires some patience, but it will come back on. :good: :victory: :highfive:

I am using multi rom with stock as the primary rom. I used that to update PRL and everything works as expected without any modifications. However, the CM12 data settings did not work without the FIX attached in this thread.

Should I download the fix from the attachment or on the link?
They seem to be different.
UPD: one in attachment seem to be better (more settings in the apns-conf.xml)
I'm also attaching another version of this fix with even more APNs for Freedompop. It equals the setup that came with original FreedomPop ROM
i am having same issue and none of these PRL's work. Can you tell me which fix you used before modifying the settings in TESTING menu

i am having same issue and none of these PRL's work. I am on CM 12.1, can you tell me which fix you used before modifying the settings in TESTING menu
Update : i finally got it working with flashing the PRL in first post but the phone works only when Data is enabled. when Data or wifi is switched off, i am not able to make or receive any calls. Does anyone has the same issue.

You can only make/receive calls when Data is enabled? It doesnt work via wifi? While data is turned off, open the Freedompop Messaging app and see if indicates that you are registered. What happens specifically when you try to make a call? (what errors or messages do you get)

Wi-Fi calling - HELP

I recently got a Xiaomi Mi5, the stock ROM does not support Wi-Fi calling, so I needed to flash it since I work in a basement...
I now have Resurrection Remix installed, and Wi-Fi calling is available and toggled on, but it does not actually work!
I know it is enable on my sim because I have been using the feature for a year on an iphone... and the provider confirmed they did not lock anything up or needed to reset anything.
Any ideas out there?
I can't think of any way to even debug this issue, apart form flashing to different ROMs, but that takes a while and I like RR.
Thanks
