Hi guys,
I'm on xiaomi.eu 9.1.24 and today I've received a notification to install 9.2.15. Is it possible to normally update my phone rather than following this method "https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/9-2-14-15.49206/" that would wipe my data?
I was thinking about flashing stock recovery and run the update.
If you are on Xiaomi.eu, how do you update your phone?
Off-topic: for me it's impossible to flash staff via twrp from internal storage because it shows numerous "weird" folders instead of showing the right ones.
(It seems to me it is (like) encrypted)
I just flashed it in twrp, no need to wipe.

Hi. As the title suggests, today I ran into an issue regarding OTA update.
Recently I unlocked my phone's bootloader to use GCam Mod, but first I had to enable camera2api which I did by temporarily booting PB Recovery from fastboot and flashed the disable dm_verity.zip and then the camera2apienable zip. I rebooted the phone and the temporary PB Recovery was replaced by stock xiaomi recovery.
All was fine until today I received an update to MIUI 10.2.1.0. I downloaded the OTA from the updater and let it reboot for installation. Almost half-way through the update, the procedure halted with an error "ERROR APPLYING UPDATE" in the stock recovery. I've retried several times, even redownloading the OTA but ut gives the same error everytime. The fine boots fine afterwards, not being updated.
Since this is my first Xiaomi phone, I'm seeking a method to correctly update my phone to the latest version without screwing it up or being ended up bricked.
Any guide as to what I shall do so to update my phone (e.g. re-enable dmverity; flashing stock ROM?) will be highly appreciated. TIA.
I don't know how to re enable DM verity. But I ws on EU beta rom. I decided to install global beta rom. Then I installed it with MiFlash. Now I'm using global beta rom, and updated it half an hour ago without problems with internal updater.
I checked status of phone with fastboot command, and it shows DM verity: True.
Download the official tgz update and flash via fastboot (or MiFlash with the chance of relocking your bootloader).

Does updating via the MiFlash Tool also resets the device i.e. deletes all my installed apps or is it more like a doing a dirty flash? I know there are 3 options while flashing but I just want to know what the keep data option means. Thanks.
You aren't attempting to flash a different variation (i.e. Stable>Dev -or- Euro>China), but at the same time, you've altered the system, so a dirty flash probably won't work out. If you want to remain unlocked with your fancy GCam, avoid MiFlash altogether. I suggest looking into a MiGlobe ROM. They keep up with Stable stock OTAs and customization is optional. Good luck
Hello Guys, I need some help: I installed Resurection Remix v8.6.6 with the fw V12.0.7.0.qjgeuxm and would like to update it to V12.0.8.0!
The Rom is encrypted, however!
What steps do I have to carry out to cancel the encryption and flash the new firmware?
Many thanks in advance
greetings
H0rdak
if you only want to flash firmware 12.0.8 flash this in recovery and you don't need to do anything else, reboot to recovery just to be on the safe side, then reboot to system...
on the other side, if you want to reflash whole 12.0.8 SW base, that's another case...
THX JERYLL, you're a great help again !!!!
Okay, I mean, I transfer the FW zip file to the phone and install it via Orange Fox?! I still did not understand that with the encryption as explained in the RR thread! Can I easily flash the ZIP file?

yes either download or transfer, then flash in recovery, I did it yesterday, so its safe to do
thanks jeryll,
i have done it now and the system has displayed an error message at the vendor! Do you know whether the update was successful anyway, and where can I read which fw is now installed on the phone ?!
if you did flash only firmware part of 12.0.8 you can't see it in system as a regular update as you only updated drivers which allow to communicate between SW and HW, so when you start up OFOX, on its initial screen you can see the number of the last flashed whole MIUI ROM (for example if before flashing custom ROM you were on MIUI 12.0.6, then flashed RR 8.6.6, now updated only fw part of 12.0.8, your system will still be shown as 12.0.6...
If you are hunting this new number 12.0.8 and not pure functionality, you'll need to reflash full recovery version of MIUI 12.0.8 EU, that will reflash most of the needed components on your phone including vendor and product and then you'll see that number in OFOX. But because in the process your original custom ROM will be overwritten with MIUI, you'll need to reflash RR + GAPPS + Magisk too before you reboot in to system...
Thx, but can I assume that the update has now been carried out successfully, even if this vendor error has occurred?
what vendor error? if your system is booting and working ...
its said: "Failed to mount '/vendor' (invalid argument)" , writen in red !
if it's not showing permanently, all should be okay
Thank you Jeryll !!
Jeryll, a last question that has nothing to do with the firmware topic in itself: My RROS (8.6.6) is encrypted. If I want to update to 8.6.7, should i decrypt first or can I just flash the new update via recovery?!
just dirty flash 8.6.7 over 8.6.6 and reboot to system, check if playstore is working and if magisk is present (optional depends on you using google stuff and root) if needed reboot to recovery, reinstall gapps and magisk ... that should work... I was unable to do clean flash of RR on decrypted storage...
Jeryll, you made my day again !! Many Thanks!!!

Hello community!
Hope you are doing awesome, I am trying to install specifically the update from the 18 th of May (latest while doing this post) so when I downloaded it I go to TWRP and this is what I done
1)Place my pin and decrypt the device
2) Perform a format Data > Yes
3) Wipe cache, dalvik, internal
4) Restart to Recovery
5) Install the update all seems to be fine and reboot to system
The Phone boots to Poco screen and then vibrates and then gets me back to TWRP. I manage one time to get it worked and got in the config page from the customer rom a UI unresponsive message and is unable to connect to my Wifi so I have to use the Data 4G to make it work and I rolledback to April version of Arrow OS that seems to be the one working now.
The Miui stock that I am using to install the customer Rom is surya_global_images_V12.0.8.0.QJGMIXM_20210222.0000.00_10.0_global
Could you please provide some hints and tips what I am doing wrong so I can get this updates up to date? Because I love the Arrow OS Rom and I want to keep the firmware updated correclty on my side.
Thank you!
I am very interested, too. Got the same problem. After latest OTA-Update I'm stuck in a recovery bootloop as well.
Sadly even the attempt to flash back an older version or a MIUI Stock rom is failing for me now. Always recovery bootloop, even after a successfull flash without errors (and format data of course) .
Is the stock rom or an older arrow os version working for you, after the 18th May update?
@koelbche I was able to make a stock based on the stock fw shown on my post. then I installed old version of arrow OS April update and it was restarting bootloop.
I had to delete data, factory reset and select de wipe options so super clean flash and manage to boot it up.
I am waiting for any updates from others that manage to install the updates because I was not able to do it.
Flash ArrowOS custom recovery for ota update to work. After update you can flash recovery back to TWRP for root and backup, your choice.
I was able to make it worked in another post.
All I have to do was to update the version of the stock with Oss vendor (I think) and then all worked like a charm!.
Thanks for the replies though
Clarifying this once and for all: TWRP and magisk how to consume OTAs?
Hi folks,
My Poco is rooted with Magisk, has a TWRP recovery and is still stuck on 12.0.8.0 (QJGEUXM).
How can I apply OTA updates without loosing my data?
Actually I thought that I can download the right recovery update file from the update tracker thread and then just select it in the advanced updater menu. But none of the files I've tried seems to be installable.
My thought was, that I have to update via the updater and the reinstall magisk before rebooting the phone.
Is that correct?
Or what's the proper way to install an full update file via TWRP without loosing the data?
I downloaded and installed a custom ROM of google pixel experience and after a couple of days I got a notification that there is a new update available when I am done downloading it and tapped to install my phone is on the custom recovery

Yes, you can flash the update via recovery without wiping the device. This is called a "dirty flash" and can only be done if you are installing an update of the ROM that you currently have installed. For example, if you have a LineageOS ROM installed and a LineageOS update is available, you could install that update without wiping the device. But, if you have Pixel Experience installed, you can not flash LineageOS without wiping the device. In your case, as long as the update is a Pixel Experience update, you can flash without wiping.

Thank you very much, I will be thankful if you could tell my in some detail how to do it
I thought it might be by choosing the "install" options from recovery, then install the file from internal storage. Is it right? Or should be done someway else?

Obviously. How else did you plan on installing it via recovery? I am not aware of a different way to flash a ROM via recovery.
