If you are able to unlock your device's bootloader and flash TWRP onto it, then you can use Magisk to root your device.

Flash a custom recovery such as TWRP and use it to install a SuperSU zip (preferrably the latest version.) The exact details can be found in the forum somewhere.
Is there anyway to do this without unlocking the boot loader?
It won't flash the recovery when I try and the guide I found to unlock the boulder requires going to a site to get an unlock code and that site is down.

I don't think so. You can't install a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader, and without a custom recovery you can't flash to the system partition, which you need to do with most "regular" root apps such as SuperSU. Since KingRoot doesn't seem to work, it seems you're out of luck.
I remember that it took me quite an effort to get my bootloader unlocked, I had to do a ton of searching in these and other forums, but in the end I found a way that worked. Maybe you just need to dig a little deeper

There are no less than 3 threads dedicated to rooting this device on Marshmallow that are tested and working... did all of them not work for you?
Yeah bro there is such kind of problem on rooting stock marshmallow ROM but I used kingroot v 4.8.2 for rooting if your bootloader is unlocked.

Never use a one-click root method on a Moto unlocked device... Seen way to many bricked devices, always root manually.
It is easy to find, there is a thread in my signature.

If you have current SuperSU and TWRP, and use the echo command to create /data/.supersu it will work, if it isn't please go to thread in my signature and provide details including:
1) Device model and Android version
2) TWRP version
3) SuperSU version
4) Output of 'cat /data/.supersu' from TWRP terminal
And a copy of recovery.log if possible, without more specific information there is nothing that I can do to assist you.

Hi kiselina777, I too am searching for a root method that doesn't require unlocking the bootloader (most because of the 14 day wait), have you had any luck in finding one?
Hello Colloseo,
do you have any news regarding the systemless rooting?
Thanks!
Any progress at all regarding systemless rooting?
Does anyone tried these methods already? Any update on that?
when comes method 3?
and is this really also possible with the P2?
At this time, the only available methods are described here:
Lenovo P2
I had a problem
I've tried the first way:
unlock the bootlader (and wait 14 days)
get adb
flash TWRP
put the SuperSU .zip file, found here supersu.com/download, in the normal memory (i don't have a sdcard)
open the recovery, that now is TWRP recovery, search the supersu .zip file that i previously put in my phone and click install
reboot the phone
and NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, I've done it so many times, reflashing the recovery, installing SuperSU from the play store before installing from the phone, but whenever i enter the SuperSU app it says "no root found".
Even if TWRP recovery said "installed succesfully" my phone still doesn't have the root privileges, did I miss any passage?
EDIT
I've tried with me.phh.superuser.apk, found in the xda developer instead of the SuperSU official site, and using the superuser256.zip found in the same site (forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73667960&postcount=5).
Work perfectly
Thanks medwatt !!!!!!!!!!!

I activated OEM but after countdown started, 2 days later the server is down and since no news.
Did you root after waiting 14 days or before the countdown ended?

So actually i want to root my phone and for that i have to unlock my bootloader , but there is no oem unlock option in devloper option, i tried that time change method, and didn't work, and i tried fastboot, but fastboot isn't detecting my device, (i checked drivers in device manager, but there was no yellowed drivers (i forgot that symbol name) in other device section. So can anyone help me with this?
To root a phone's Android it's NOT required to unlock its bootloader.
