When I tell google assistant to increase/decrease brightness (or volume) it says ok, but nothing changes.
Does anybody have the same issue?
Is there any chance to solve this?
I use the program dimly to adjust the screen brightness.

I want to use auto brightness, but the auto brightness on this phone set the screen too dim most of the time.
When I was using Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire, the rom allows one to customize the auto brightness settings (light sensor threshold, screen brightness at each level etc.) Is there any app on the market that can do the same thing?
I have the same problem. But I want it to be darker. Does anybody know how to adjust the auto brightness?
Pull down the notification window. Click quick settings and you will see it right there

That's not what I'm looking for. I want automatic adjustment but not so bright as it is now.
Just want to add myself as another user who is in need of this feature. I can code, but I have no mobile dev experience/patience
Just to be clear, you want a manual auto-brightness setting? Just use a ROM that includes manual brightness in the notification bar.

Yes, that's right. I`m using LeeDroid and that rom doesn't have that option.
Nobody knows?
Maybe here is the start... I have not used it.

I would say what's needed is more like the ability to add or subtract brightness values from what the phone thinks the screen brightness should be.
So say the phone decides 70% is the right brightness, but you think actually it's brighter than it needs to be, you can set to always subtract 20% etc.
Conversely if you think the screen is always too dark, you can set it to always add 20% etc.
Would be a handy app to have.
Not sure why the custom auto brighness app needs to know where you are or have full internet access though...
Doesnt CM7 have this feature?
Is there any way to set the screen brightness below its minimum limit? Handy for reading in dimmed lights or texting in a cinema. I find that even the lowest setting is too bright
Don't text in cinemas, really annoying for other folks.

You can download an app called keepscreen from market. the controls brightness of the apps when selected. its brightness is pretty low compared to standard brightness level
Because I do give a breath to the 'other folks' I am finding ways to keep it to a bare visibility.
Thanks guys for the more helpful comments. I'll check those apps out first
Adjusting the brightness does not work until I press the lock button.
Previously on 4.2 worked fine.
Now is kitkat.
So wait a second, are you trying to adjust brightness when it is locked or unlocked?
Also, I assume you are trying to change it with the touch controls?
When unlocked I change bright level with touch controls. And has no effect without locking.

There might be some apps which can run invisibly on the top of all. Android will consider the brightness Settings of the top most window.
Check whether you have any brightness control or powersaver or some kind of widgets which runs on top. Kindly disable or uninstall them & then check again
No. There is nothing such thing.
When I set my phone brightness level all the way down and the open a video with MX player, it will increase the brightness.
Even when I do the gesture to lower it, it still won't go as low as the phones brightness. When I exit the app it goes down again.
The brightness switch in screen settings doesn't seem to influence this.
Let me know how I can help to fix it.

In some devices, app can't set brightness as dark as system's brightness setting. In this case, you have to turn off MX Player's brightness control to get darker screen by checking off Settings > Player > Screen > Brightness.

Like I mentioned, that doesn't seem to work.
App to automatically adjust screen brightness for "None ambient light sensor" phone
I have made an app "Auto Brightness by PP" to do automatically adjust screen brightness depend on ambient light. I believe that it is the only one now that can do it without "Ambient light sensor hardware".
I make it for my Samsung Galaxy J7 (which do not has auto screen brightness function), to help me auto adjust screen brightness to bright up in the outdoor and to be dark in the night, helping me to easily unlock my screen with pin code.
It has been already proved that it work for other phone too such as Samsung J2,5,7, Duos, Grand, Sony Xperia, I-mobile, Huwaii etc...
Hope it can help you who got the same problem with me too.
Let try and support me if you like.
To find app please search for "Preeda" in google app store or "Auto Brightness by Preeda"

Why does that app needs to read my contacts? Suspicious.
