How can I root my Galaxy A8 2018 A530W (Canada Bought) - Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) Questions & Answers

I currently own Galaxy A8 (Canadian) A530W, I want to have magisk installed on it,
or if possible, a pure android based ROM would be great.
I am not able to find threads good enough to guide one through something. Probably, because of variations in model.
Moderator Edit: TG offsite redirection not permittied.

A530W is the same as A530F so you can flash anything for A530F on A530W unless it does have an option do flash it specifically for A530W
I have an a530w too
Also to get aosp custom rom I recommend you go to the roms subforum for a8 and get treble then flash a gsi, even pie if you want

yes you can revert back by flashing stock rom, because CSC has repartition file

I did it that just to see if you could and it did not work.
Do you need to flash the csc also?

Flash a G930F Rom on a G930K SGS7?

Hello everybody,
I'm looking for the answer of my question but I still didn't find it. I live in Hong Kong and I bought a SGS7 from Korea, the model is SM-G930K. The phone is unlocked but there are bloatwares from the carrier and I can't remove the sound of the camera on this model.
That's why I was wondering if I could use an international rom like from the SM-G930F? I wanted to try but I'm afraid of bricking the phone. The SM-G930K from Korea is also a Exynios version, so I really hope I can flash it with an international rom.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I made a mistake! How move the topic to the questions and answers section?
G930K user here, too. Yes you can, but directly flashing G930F firmware through odin is not possible due to difference in partition sizes. Still, you can flash custom ROMs which can be installed through TWRP(e.g. Superman ROM).

But custom ROMs have to mention G930K or not? Or just a classic custom ROMs from G930F is ok?
I remember, a long time ago, may be before Android, I edited the ROM just with an hexadecimal app, and I could change the model and some stuff. We can't do something like this neither?

Just flash G930F ROMs, it doesn't matter whether G930K support is mentioned or not. No need to edit anything.

Isn't it what the re-partition option for?
Sorry to bump an old thread, but that't the clearest discussion I've found so far regarding flashing on the K variant.
I'm asking this for the S7E though (G935K > G935F) and everyone on the other forum says that it is just impossible to do anything on the K version ( which seems weird to me since the hardware is exactly the same and root/TWRP work fine).

I made a research during few weeks about that, and it's still not clear. I have also read that the modem is faster than the classic S7. But I have not found a loud and clear answer.
Until someone try to flash a G930F rom on a G930F phone, we won't know.

I know this is an old thread but does someone know the answer whether it is fine to flash a g930f rom to a G930k variant?

Hi. Apparently you cannot. If you want another rom, you have to install an alternative recovery, root your phone, and install a custom rom.
Anyone found clear answer?

Hi. No you cannot. Check my previous message, the only way is to install custom rom.
Those devices have same hardware. But the partition sizes are different. If you want to know, just flash custom recovery (TWRP) to your korean S7 and flash LineageOS or RR. Because all of them suggested our devices as well like this: (G930 F|W8|K|L|S). It will fail when you try to flash it by recovery. Because Galaxy S7's Korean variant's partition sizes are different from international and canadian S7s. There was one guide to flash AOSP ROMs to Korean S7's. There will be guide to resize of partitions on ROM's installation. But all commands are needs Linux Based OS, but not Android. I was tried it by Termux on my Galaxy S7. ext2simg command was still not available on Android's terminal . Others was available... so sad. And python codes are so simple to run. One day I will try it on Linux Based OS'd PC.

Not fine. But our devices have same hardware (F = W8 = K = L = S). Only the partition sizes are different. You just need to flash custom recovery (TWRP) then choose custom rom what you want for your S7. I'm suggesting SuperMan ROM and BatMan ROM. They are so stable, and clean. BatMan ROM was not fully stable on my G930K. Then I tried SuperMan ROM's clean, stock installation method on AROMA. It was really clean and Stable on my G930K. Try it bro :fingers-crossed: all of them TouchWiz interfaced. If you want try AOSP, you need to resize your partition sizes by this guide.
Is it possible that I install twrp to install smg930fd firmware in my smg930s Samsung s7 and uninstall twrp after doing this ?

If the ROM you flashed is Marshmallow then you need MM modem, it would be better to flash a 5XX MM firmware then flash Alexis Marshmallow ROM.
In case it is nougat, then update your modem and BL
Can you link me latest bootloader and modem for nougat i want to go back thank you.

It will be better to flash the latest firmware then flash the custom rom, to start from scratch. Download a nougat firmware from sammobile and factory reset your device then flash the rom

Nougat 7.1.1 avilable for on5 pro flawlessly working on on5 also

https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-on5/SM-G550FY/INS/download/G550FYXXU1CQL6/202421/
Download and flash via odin
Is your on5 model g5520 ??
Yup flashed it to my cousin's mobile which was G550FY(non-pro) model. Did a factory reset and it works flawlessly. No issues at all everything works including Volte. Infact its much better than before!
This was a real surprise for my cousin xD

Yes, I have tried that ROM & its Odin flashable
Can i flash this on the SM-S550TL?
Has anyone tried this on the SM-G550T1 model?
Will someone reupload the file for a better download link? Sammobile takes way to long
Really, the SM-G550T1/2 really needs Nougat at this point since it is only limited to the India model... I really like the new UI elements. Sad.
Or if someone is really good enough to make a Android Oreo Go edition custom ROM (since it really helps on storage) or a Lineage OS custom ROM. I wish i can make one but I'm not good at making ROM's.:crying:
Edit: I was thinking of installing that same rom OP described. Will it work for my T1? Someone needs to test this before i can proceed. Problem is i don't know if it will brick my phone because it was made for Indian devices running that version.
The current device i have is as follows:
Galaxy On5 SM-G550T1 (T-Mobile)
Currently on 6.0.1
Rooted with Magisk
OEM Unlock set to ON
TWRP
I dont know also, but do i need to have my phone network "unlocked" to switch official samsung roms? I prefer sticking to T-Mobile...
Edit #2: Tried installing that firmware file, it wont let me because of a locked bootloader. I used Odin (latest) but all i get is a "SECURE CHECK FAIL: (BOOTLOADER)" error.
^tl;dr, it wont install on a US variant.

You can use sam frimware tool to download the ROM with no bandwidth cap issues. Search XDA for the tool

Don't try, that's for a specific region.

so development for j7 15 is pretty much dead now?

Should we expect something more to it?
You have looked at the dev section of this forum ??
We have nougat roms, nougat custom kernel, Lineage OS roms (14, 15) even.
What development do you want to see?

root/custom OS for A8

i normally do it through TWRP and the guides i looked at shows its compatible but when i check the device list...
https://twrp.me/Devices/Samsung/
my model isnt listed on there. Will this still work? and any recommendations for custom OS i see that lineage OS isnt supporting this device
i was able to get TWRP.

Same, its just the same as a530f
Just imagine as if your device was a530f and everything will work fine and there are some custom roms, just not on xda...
One is salimskiy rom which is oreo touchwiz (im using that right now)
Theres another one which is on the roms category of this forum, elite custom rom, but that one is outdated (7.1.1) and its made for a730f not a530f
Lel i was the one who tested mesa's 3.2.2-0 twrp and i have a530w
