Yalpstore no 'Pretend to be a different device' option available? - General Questions and Answers

I downloaded Yalpstore to install a Android TV based app on my mediaplayer with Android 6.0.1.
Yalpstore makes it possible to pretent a different device (for example a NVIDIA Shield TV).
I found a manual here: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...or-nvidia-shield-games-on-any-android-device/
Instructions:
Go to the app settings.
Navigate to the option “Pretend to be a different device”.
Select the NVIDIA Shield TV.
Untick “Delete APK after installation”.
Search for a free application or game in the Yalp Store.
When prompted, select the option “Log in with your Google account” and enter your credentials.
Download any application or game.
Click to collapse
But in the app settings i can't find this option. According to Youtube, it must be available. Does anybody know why it isn't ?

Apps from the Play Store

Anyone with the ADT-1, do you have full access to the play store or is it a curated list of apps?
For my uses I'm really going to want to have access to a VPN application like Anyconnect or OpenConnect, is that a possibility with the Player?
Right now, since it's only a preview with a preview of the Play Store, the app base is very limited to choose from. Like 20-30. So far though, I have been able to sideload many APKs just fine (root explorer, XBMC, XBMC Updater, etc.). I still haven't gotten the OTA that was released yesterday though, so I don't know if the experience will change; however, I'm willing to bet there will be some kind of curated experience.
Update: Found the OTA package for Molly to LPX13D. Updating now (after master resetting by mistake - lol). Will follow up with what the updated experience looks like.
Update 2: So, I'm on the new build. The overall experience is pretty much the same, with some minor UI/UX changes. The Play Store no longer says preview on it; however, I still only have the small list of apps. More specifically: 4 Android TV apps; 3 TV Remote Games; and about 15-20 Gamepad Games.

The link to the OTA is http://android.clients.google.com/p...a.signed-molly-LPX13D-from-LPW39.92b93576.zip
If you have rooted the device you will have to fix the update-script to remove checks of install-recovery.sh and build.prop as well as installing a custom recovery for the modified build to install.
Two questions related to apps from the Play Store...
a) Do I need to root in order to sideload apps? Or can I do it similar to a phone/tablet where I just have to allow "unknown sources"?
b) The three apps that will be my "killer apps" will be the DirecTV app, Amazon Prime, and HockeyStreams (HSDroid in the play store). Any reason to believe any/all of these will not work if side loaded?
Thanks in advance... this will likely drive my decision to buy a Nexus Player!

As of right now you can adb install any application (or at least on the ADT-1).

Some apps have compatibility issues with ADT-1. I've tried the Comcast VOD app and HBO Go. They load, but are missing elements for navigation and don't function properly.

I was wondering this as well. I know that Android has native support for PPTP and L2TP/IPsec protocols and that I can set up a VPN on my Nexus 5 with no additional software. Does the Nexus Player / ADT-1 have this functionality, or has it (as I suspect) been removed?
Thanks.

Remote Control remap to open specific APP

Hello,
i have Android TV BOX, as i want the media center functions only, i have modified Kodi 16.1 to run as launcher. Now i have the red, blue, green ans yellow button on my remote control and i want to bind the settings, fileexplorer, webbrowser and shutdown menu app to these buttons.
Any idea how to do that?
Hi, I am the developer of CetusPlay, I can not change what the button can open, but the app I develop now have the function to open the specific app on android TV Box via android phone. If you want to try the app, please follow the steps:
1. Install the CetusPlay- TV version on your Anroid TV box via Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cetusplay.remoteservice)
2. Install the CetusPlay - Remote&Sideload on your Android phone if you have on via Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cetusplay.remotephone)
3. Open both CetusPlay apps on Android TV box and Android phone, connect the device and go to the MY APPS section, you can load the apps on Android TV box on your phone, click the specific one, and this app will be opened on Android TV box.
I would like to hear some explanations of why the shady permissions your app requests are needed before I start suggesting it to others. Both Cetus & Wuk will not be used by myself.

Finding developer name for an app

You might think that after 10-ish years of using Android, I'd know this...
How do I find the developer name of a specific app in Oreo? I don't see it in Settings > Apps > (app name), or in the app's setting under About. The only way I've found in general, is long press in the app icon the tap the Play Store icon. But some apps are not in the Google play store.
Specifically, I have two app call Contacts. One I know is Google. I can confirm this using the Play Store icon as described above. I haven't another way. The other, I'm 97% sure is Samsung. Tapping it's Play Store icon opens the Play Store to a page that says "Item not found."
I can find version very easily. I can also find the license info. Why is the dev name so hard to find?

Specific version of Google app still being auto-updated

Hello, for reasons relating to the internal browser vs Chrome Custom Tabs situation in the Google App, I want to run an older version of the Google App on my S10+. I am unticking "Enable auto update" in the Play Store, and then selecting "Uninstall updates" (it's a system app so no way to fully uninstall). This takes me back to an older version, which is what I want, but at some time every day, the app is updated again by the Play Store.
Is ignoring the "Enable auto-update" option expected for a system app, or something that's part of the GApps and Play Services world?
Does anyone know a workaround please?
