Bluetooth paired devices - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a way to make the phone connect automatically to the device if its in range, right now as far as i've seen it only does so to the last connected device rather than the one in range which is annoying if you have multiple devices like me...

Anyone?

Mine connects to my headset, mini speaker, other mini speaker and car just fine as soon as one of them are turned on. Works if it's connected to one of them already (like headset, then turning on car)

Mine connects instantly, whether or not it's already connected to something. I also never turn off Bluetooth.

Nah i tested mine still the same functionality doesn't connect automatically to anything but the last device, maybe its since i have about 5 devices in history i'm not sure...

Update:
In case anyone else finds this one.
I ended up solving the issue by disabling the following service which is a test service ? :/
BTtestmode

After that the problem was gone and BT worked as it was intended

Wierd, my phone always connects instantly to any known Bluetooth device in range ! On OOS, and other ROMs !

[Q] Bluetooth a2dp autoconnect

Does anyone know of a bluetooth a2dp gateway that auto-pairs with the N1 when power up?
I've tried Sony and Belkin and heard that the Blackberry gateway all fail to do so (although on the Droid forums some people say the Blackberry does auto-pair).
I had a similar and short lived thread in Q&A, sorry for the 2nd attempt!
I tried at least 4 product from stereo headset to car adapter. I find that nexus requires that the device to support HSP for the auto-connect to work.
I only wish that someone could implement custom media streaming over bluetooth for the rest of us.
look for a device with the following profiles HSP/A2DP/AVRCP.
I'm currently using Kensington LiquidAUX K33428 Bluetooth and it works great. It auto-connects 95% of the time.

Thanks for the quick reply.
How does the audio quality compare to the others that you tried. Does the Kensington support A2DP only? I don't want it taking all my phone calls as well.
The Blackberry definitely does not auto-connect, at least with my Nexus One. The strange thing is, it auto-connects with my Palm Pre Plus every time.
It's one of the most annoying things to me about the Nexus, opening up Bluetooth Settings and having to manually connect to it every time I get in the car is actually a pain, compared to the Palm where I just get in and it's connected.
I was actually wondering if there was an app or some kind of service I could start up that would auto-connect to bluetooth devices. Does anyone know of anything like that?
I'm using a Samsung WEP870. Works just fine with my Nexus One. I am running CM6 RC3 on it, nothing other than that.
I use the Bluetooth A2DP for listening all day to podcasts & other media.
As soon as I place the headset on and power it up, it connects to the Nexus One. No problems.
I have a Sony BT5100 car radio and with stock android (or any non sense android rom) the phone automatically connected to the radio. I guess the later Sony models will be doing the same.

I think the S1 only plays music through its own speaker. Can it output to the car through aux?

As far as I know android doesn't allow for anything other than manual pairing when it comes to non HSP (headset profile) devices. I read this on their documentation page.

Lame.
What happened to it being an 'Open' OS? Seems like something an application should be able to fix.

[Q] Echo using AUX jack on calls in car

Anyone else notice this issue?
If I plug in the audio to my car with a cable and make a call, (routing the audio through my speakers). People tell me that there is an echo and they can hear themselves.
Is there a solution for this while using the hardwired audio? (I keep my phone connected via bluetooth to my pebble watch so would rather not use the bluetooth).
Thanks!

Uhm, that last sentence...
You do realize that it is perfectly okay for your phone to connect to multiple bluetooth devices, correct? I use my Pebble and my car's bluetooth simultaneously all the time.

That I did not know. Thank you. But I don't have a blue tooth connection in my car anyways. Rather go hardwired, but if you can suggest a great blue tooth adapter, I'm open to ideas. I'm in Toronto, but I guess I could order from wherever. Thanks!

Anyone else developing bluetooth issues?

I've noticed that lately my bluetooth connection has been spotty. It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting in my car, or not connecting at all. Most times when it connects to my bluetooth speakers or car audio the connection displays "connected(no audio)". Has anyone else experienced similar problems with bluetooth?

I've had no bluetooth issues at all. It's been rock solid for me (paired with 3 cars, a Denon receiver, and 2 bluetooth speakers).
My FitBit connection would drop after a while and couldn't reconnect until the phone is restarted. Restarting Bluetooth alone does not resolve the issue.

I've got an Xiaomi mi Band and car stereo. I've problems too, have to restart phone to solve the problem.
Could it be that there is a problem with Bluetooth low energy?

No idea whats going on, but herein lies the issue with Blu not being consistent with device updates. If this was a Samsung phone, I would know that an update is coming to address this issue. With Blu, we might be stuck dealing with this for the life of the phone. I still have 4 days to decide whether or not Ill take that chance.
I'm still having an issue with my Bluetooth connection, regardless of whether it's my Fitbit syncing or connecting to my car radio.
When the phone is booted it'll work as normal then at some point is no longer able to my devices, restarting Bluetooth doesn't fix this and the only solution I'm aware of is to reboot the phone.

Bluetooth questions

Received mate 9 today first impressions are really good.
Tried connecting today to my cars bluetooth adapter which works with the s8 and pixel.
It's not letting me play audio.
The phone connects to the adapter but all media plays through my phone.
Any help
I am using a Rom also

Had the same issue when I initially tried to pair with a bluetooth device in my car.
Just kept trying until it connected.
But once it does, you're good to go. No more drama.

Android Auto

Hi, after reading a few threads about android auto compatibility with the essential phone, I have been put off purchasing as AA has become a pretty permanent fixture of my commute.
There have however been software updates I see by Essential, notably the latest firmware in the past few days. Just wondering if anyone has seen any improvement in android auto experience with any of the latest updates?
Thanks.
I havent had an issue. Im running AA on both my 2017 Audi and 2017 GMC. I had issues with my LGV20. With the LG, i would have to reboot the phone to get AA to recognize and even when it showed connected, text messages werent available. If i unplugged the phone and then tried to plug back in, i would have to reboot the phone if i wanted AA to work. With the essential, i can unplug the cable and plug back in and resume what i was doing seamlessly and all the alerts/texts come up no problem anymore
Same here no issues I use a couple of hours per day.
It works great with my modded Infotainment center in my 2016 Miata. However, it will not stay connected to my aftermarket 2016 Kenwood head unit in my other car more than 1-2 seconds constantly connecting and disconnecting. I've tried half a dozen different cables. Works fine with my Nexus 6.

This was what I had heard of in the forums and gives me pause about purchasing. May I ask if you have tried with latest firmware which Essential says contains some bug fixes?
Thanks to the others with positive experiences. More encouraging!
Are the reported issues with the phone itself running Android Auto and just Bluetooth connecting to the car, or when the phone is linked to the head unit?

As I understood it, it was with the phone linked to the screen of the head unit. Mine is a 2016 vw. There was a similar issue with the Oneplus 3 which kept disconnecting for no apparent reason and Oneplus fixed this with a software update which is why I was enquiring about updates here.
No problem here, connecting to and staying connected to my wife's 2016 Ford Edge, and my 2016 Corvette.
I use AA everyday, in my 2018 Audi Q5. I've never seen it drop out once.

Thanks very much for the positive reports.
I had issues getting AA to work with my Essential phone, what solved the issue for me was disabling USB debugging. After that it worked like a champ.

Exact same. My old Nexus 6 works fine but the Essential will not work with my Kenwood DDX9903. Currently I'm using my Nexus and tethering but due to Android Auto's (stupid imo) handling of calls through BT instead of USB, I can't accept calls over BT with the Essential while the N6 is in Android Auto mode.

I'm all up to date and it still will connect and disconnect rapidly until my head unit restarts. It literally worked ONCE on the first night I got it. On my drive back home and up til now I only get the USB access error message.

And same haha.. I'm using my Nexus 6 with hotspot thru my Essential for connectivity. And also same issue regarding calls. I was pondering cuttingthe proprietary USB cable and soldering it really close to the connector itself, thinking maybe if I get that cable as short as possible and then use a USB-C cable *just* long enough to reach the phone in front of the unit, maybe that will give the signal just enough boost to not keep failing repeatedly.

I swear I thought about doing the same thing but I think it might be a USB C issue in general. I have to test it with my mom's Nexus 5X. Worst case scenario I'll end up buying a replacement cable, cannibalizing the connector, and running a ~3ft USB C cable connected directly to the kenwood connector. That should tell me for sure if it's a cable quality/length issue. If I remember correctly, the cable from Kenwood is at least 2 ft. just by itself.
If you find any solution let me know because I have almost an hour commute and Waze's police alerts helps me big time.
My Prius was hellbent on grabbing my wife's iPhone instead of my SGS5 and the same thing happens with the Essential Phone. It always grabs her phone over mine. Otherwise, works fine.

I had it working tonight. I used a SUPER SHORT USB 2.0 Cable that came with my Anker PowerCore battery, then a samsung microusb to USB C connector.
It's so weird but I think going with the shortest cable possible, including the head unit cable might be a fix.
That sounds like a problem specific to Kenwood receivers then.
I've used my Essential with Android auto in four different cars with three different cables and I've never seen it disconnect once on any of them. But those were all Factory radios.

I just switched from an Xperia X and the PH-1 is significantly slower on AA. It works, but it's a slog.
This is on a 2017 Silverado
Just bought a 2017 Audi S3 and AA has been working flawlessly since day 1.
Weird, no slowdown or speed issues on AA in any of the 4 cars I've used it in. Guess I'm lucky. As long as it works in my Audi (and it does), I'm happy.
