Battery drain by screen ater upgrade to Android 8 - Xiaomi Redmi S2 Questions & Answers

Hello, i've bought a Xiaomi s2 a week ago, it can lasts for 2 days when i'm just reading Wattpad dark mode and facebook at 50% brightness. But after MIUI 10 and Oreo update, my battery drains about 1 percent per 2minutes (when i'm on screen, wifi on, no celluar data nor GPS), and it reallllllyyyy bad. When i'm checking the battery usage, it shows Screen uses 71% battery. How can i fix this without downgrade to Nougat ( or downgrade without losing apps and datas)
Thanks

Try turning off the Always Scanning for WiFi option. Also, change the Sync settings for apps you don't need to be synced at all times. And Location setting to Battery Saver.

When im at home i can pull close to 4hrs screen on . If im not on wifi the phone idle is terrible. I probably drain 6% or more per hr idling. Its hard coming from a note 4 , but i guess it is what it is.

Draining at 6% per hour is not good & unusual. But for Android 5.0.2, it seems about right, unfortunately. My N5 drained at that rate before the 5.1 update.
On my S4 with its 2-yr old battery, I drain at 3 to 3.5% per hour on idle with both WiFi & LTE turned off.
On my N5 with a new battery & 5.1, I idle drain at 0.7 to 1.5% per hour.
I'll add my battery drain rate once I get my S6E tomorrow.

This is mine on light usage. I noticed etter after a factory reset. Heavy usage is between 6 and 8 depending on wifi
I'm debating going to get one of these... My Note 2 keeps not charging and the stock battery died in 1:10 (from 50% to 1%) during a run yesterday. I was using spotify and mapmyrun.
Today is my first day after first full charge and my battery drains at ~3.5% hour, per GSAM.
I have screen brightness at little bit below the half-way mark with Auto Brightness checked.
I disconnected my phone at 6 AM and right now, it has been on 16 hrs 30 mins. I have gotten 2 hrs 30 mins SOT with 45% left.
Wifi active for 6 hrs, LTE for about 1 hr.
Screen has used 52% of my battery, Wifi 15% (5.0.2 shortcoming), Bluetooth (2%), Held Awake (0%), Phone (0%), Phone Radio (0%), App Usage (31%).
So far, the S6E is outperforming my Nexus 5 on 5.1 with a brand-new battery I swapped in on 4/1/2015.
Happy with the S6E's battery life, especially considering it's only 2600mah.
a little over 6hrs and it went from 100% to 14%. Granted 56%-23% were on a 1:43 run using Bluetooth headphones + spotify and mapmyrun mapping my way. Oddly, when I look at the battery usage, OneDrive is at 18%!
18 hrs & 37 mins off the charger with 4 hrs 8 mins of SOT. 17% battery left. I'm very happy with this. Update to 5.1 should improve it a lot more as it did on my Nexus 5.
Android System & Kernel battery usage is pretty decent. Those two on my N5 on 5.1 drains way more battery than it does on my S6 Edge.
When I'm not actively using my phone, the idle battery drain rate is pretty good - 1.9%/hour (similar to my N5, with the N5 being a bit better).
13 hrs & 9 mins off the charger with 2 hrs 20 mins SOT --> 52% battery left.
All this is without Root and my usual battery-saving Root programs.
Once 5.1 rolls out and if I decide to Root the phone and add battery-saving Root apps, I'm expecting to achieve 6-7 hrs SOT.

Ive noticed that turning off location and disabling google now has helped my battery life a lot.
I love this phone, but the battery life is the one terrible thing. 7-10 hours seems to be the max. I might have to return it and suffer the summer until the note 5.
i'm surprised to hear about all the negative battery life issues on this phone. on my GS3, i'd lose 3-4% battery just driving to work - now I get there and still have 100%. maybe i'm just not as heavy a user, but the other day my phone was off the charger for 16 hours and I still had 43% when I got home - and that included using Google Maps for 20 minutes, texting throughout the day, and using a bunch of apps. when idle, I generally only get 1% battery drain. my only complaint about the phone is some of the UI that I can't customize, but it's only a matter of time before custom ROMs are available...
I lose 10% or more battery on the phone regardless if I'm using it or it is sitting with the screen off. When I drive the 45 minutes to work, the battery is at 89%-93%.
A 1hr run with it on my arm playing spotify/mapmyrun seems to use about 26%.
Basically, I'm always worried now about the battery dying when I'm using it.
at the end of next month, I have a 14hr+ a day for 4 days music festival where I can only charge it at night. 7-10hr battery isn't going to work for me. It seems bizarre to me that they made the best phone ever, but skimped on the battery.
drive to work today with the phone just sitting beside me, 100% to 86%.

Is your location on? I had to disable google now. Turned off nfc, advanced wifi scanning.
my battery sucks too :/
i live by the charger even more
with all the same activities that got 7-10 hours on my Edge, the Note 4 is getting 14-24hrs.
Battery is beyond horrible!
Wifi is off
NFC is off
What else can I turn off? I can't even get half day out of this POS.

I think you actually want Wi-Fi to be on. I find that on any android device I burn more battery when using cellular networks.

Battery drain overnight (8 hrs, 12-15%)

Hey!
I'm experiencing high (imho) battery drain on my S7 flat (Exynos), when the device is in standby.
The problem is, i can't find any reason for this. The only thing i see, is that my phone is active very often during night. But i can't find the app/service thats causing this.
S7 Exynos variant
Android 6.0.1
SupermanROM 1.6.5
2G only, WiFi off (2nd period of the night)
Here a few screenshots:
721 Wakelocks?
went to bed at 0, woke up at about 3 to disable wifi, then woked up again at 10. About 15% battery lost. Why are there so many lines under "Aktiv / active"?
Can someone provide me any infos? Or is it just "normal" for the S7?
Thanks in advance!
Lybs
Same here but i always get 4hrs+ of SOT so i don't bother with this
I get 4hrs too, maximum 4,5 .. i don't care about that, it's okay for me. But the standby drain is really bad compared my S5 (1% per 2 hours drain, nothing disabled to save battery)
Maybe i found another problem (had this with stock rom, too)
rpmd (relay protected memory block?) tries to start every 4-5 seconds, and fails:

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Xiaomi Mi 9's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
standby about:
1-1,5 % per hour without ambient display
2,5-3% per hour with ambient display
standby drain is quite bad, LG V30 has half consumption in standby
MIUI 10
High battery drain in backgound too.
I usually lose 10% in 8 hours during night.
Standby drain is high; significantly higher than my other phones. On average, my phone drains about 1.8% per hour with AOD turned off. My Pixel 3 XL drains 0.5 to 0.8% per hour with similar settings and the same SIM card.
If you are running Global rom it could because it's trying to connect to multiple networks. Maybe both European and chineese network.
Download EX Manager and put it on Powersaver Mode. 9h and I just lose 10% of battery while watching BBT 5 episode and played 1 album to get me asleep. Lol
Hi there. 8 hours of sleeping time drained 1%.
I'm using Xiaomi.eu version.
With Global EEA it drained about 4% in 8 hours also
It drains about 1% while asleep 8hrs on airplane mode.
for me it drained up to 2% per hour.
I could reduce it to 0.5% per hour just by turning off bluetooth, maybe that helps you as well
In Global dev ROM my mi 9 was not entering sleep mode at all, it was consumed at least 2% per hour.
I'm now on Xiaomi.eu and it sleeping great.
Sent from my MI 9 using Tapatalk
Global Dev (stock kernel) gives me less than 0.5 % / h battery drain at night. Network and WiFi always running, no airplane mode. Just Bluetooth usually is switched off since I only need it in the car. No snake-oil apps for 'better battery live' or similar battery voodoo.
Cheers
Toscha
For me mit official stable it is a little more than 1% per hour during night, mobile-stand-by as well as android system are draining the most battery.
Waiting for Unlock in 5 days.
Xiaomi.eu doesn't really improve battery life for me. Androidsystem drains about 20% and I have no idea why. I lose about 10 percent at night (sleeping around 6h), so that's pretty much considering the other reports... also I only get like 3-3,5h SOT, because of the drainage. Can't figure out why, though.
Hey there have Battery Drain too. i have the Transparent Edition with Global Rom for me to use in EU with German Language. It is unlocked and has the Mi Recovery. Can i only flash with Mi Tool the Xiaomi.eu rom or will i have to flash custom Recovery?!
I'm on latest ROS, last night ~8 hours standby + airplane mode = 1%
Global stable official, i get 1% drain on 6-7 Hours, signal on so i can be called, wi fi off
MIUI 10.2.9.0, everything is on (wi-fi etc.). Mifit is permanently connected to my BIP, kate mobile is connected to VK. 4% for 8 hours this night.
yeah. the standby drain is not good at all
lost 3% in 5 hours ,with powersaving mode on(scheduled in settings to turn on between 23:00-07:00)
wifi off, bt off, mobile data off...
only WCDMA/LTE enabled
latest global rom
Its because the phone is set to scan for chinese network by default (TD-SCDMA), even though Its a global version.

Really? How to fix that?
Any ideas?
That's NOT true. Switching to LTE/WCDMA give the same battery drain.
That's only the preferred network.

Huawei P30 fast battery drain

Hello,
I've purchased a huawei p30 few days ago, and I noticed that the battery drains pretty fast comparing to a thread I've read here about Huawei P30 Pro battery drain (link).
It takes 1% of battery for about 4-6 minutes of use.
In addition, it consumes 10% overnight (10 hours), with only cellular and data connection, no wifi, no gps, no nfc.
Tested it with flight mode, and it takes 7% overnight (10 hours), which I think is way too much (should be like 1% right?).
I have version 9.1.0.193 (europe version), with the ability to upgrade to 240.
What can possibly cause that? I only have it for few days, with 3 apps installed: Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram.
I wondered, how is your battery consume? that would be nice if you can share your stats.
thanks
Edit:
Tested the phone in safe mode, 10% over 10 hours standby, I got a defect for sure =\

Thanks for your response.
I did viewed the battery usage, however there is nothing that consuming too much battery, looks normal.
The drain got better overtime, now I get 3% overnight (10 hours) on flight mode without AOD and 5% with cellular, which is ok.
However, on standby time over the daylight, the battery drains 1% every 30 minutes, I think that is very bad. not sure why the standby time is so bad.
I get SOT of 6~ minutes every 1% (which is great for me).
So I'm not sure what could be causing that. I've watched a video by linus on youtube about galaxy s9+ on battery drain, and it seems that the mobo have a leak, which made it drain.
Is it possible that huawei also suffer from mobo leaks?

New Galaxy S7 Edge overheating and rapidly discharging.

BIG PROBLEM
A brand new, fresh out of the box Galaxy S7 Edge [Exynos] (came pre-loaded with Oreo 8.0), merely 5 days in use is overheating (gets to 41°C) and draining its battery strangeley fast (about 1% every 4 mins whilst on 3G or LTE). No apps have been downloaded from the app store and there are only a few screenshots on the phone, other than that it's empty!
I first ignored the overheating when I set it up as by default it had been charging via fast charge so it was understandable. The first day the battery consumption was "ok" since it was just idle and i was bareley using it. The following day I connected to the wi-fi and I noticed it was draining the battery pretty quickly..almost 1 % every 7 mins even tho the screen was dimmed and most apps had been "optimised". I was also worried about the "cell standby" drain which was about 2% every 1.5hrs.
But things began to get out of hand when I began using the 3G connection to watch youtube videos, after just 8 minutes the phone became scorching hot to the point where I couldn't use it for a while. The battery percentage was falling ridiculously by around 1% every 3 to 4 mins, with the display on 40% brightness, apps optimised, background apps limited and all the other tweaks to save battery life being utilised. Location, BT, Wi-fi, NFC and auto-updates(GooglePlay) were all of and it was still getting hot.
Then I allowed it to drain completley to 0% but before that I disabled "fast charge" , it took 8 hrs from 2AM to around 10:14 AM to reach 100%...but this did not help the battery drainage as it was still the same as before. The cell standby reported 3% use in 12 hrs which is abnormal since other S7E( Nougat) users only got a hit 1% in 8HRS. I then came on XDA and saw that many other S7/Edge users that are running Oreo 8.0 were experiencing the same issue with no resolve... I have tried ALL of the following with not a single positive result:
1. Soft reset and wipe data cache partition. 》no difference made
2. Enabling "mid power save mode" to limit CPU speed and background apps . 》 still overheats and drains battery as before
3. Factory reset the phone (there was not much user data on it aside from 5 screenshots). 》did nothing to remedy the situation
4. Disabling any apps that might have been responsible for the overheating and battery drain uaing the Apps manager and the "app power monitor". 》no noticeable change
5. using the "Optimisine apps" option in the App manager
none of the above helped as the phone still gets very hot (when it is on 3G/4G data) and drains its battery much quicker than S7 Edges that were running Nougat a few years back.
AT THIS POINT I'M ALL OUT OF IDEAS AND YOU HELP WOULD BE GREATLEY APPRECIATED.

I recommend to update / flash latest firmware available.
Then install a battery stats app like Better battery stats (BBS), record an idle dump and post it in the BBS thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-2-2-05-oct-v2-4-betterbatterystats.1179809/)
There are some experts analyzing your stats and giving advices how to optimize your system to gain better battery life.
