Hi everybody!
I am new in this community and I am sorry if a post this thread in the wrong forum.
I want to start making a AOSP or a "custom ROM" for Android, I have some experience with "Linux from scracth" and linux in general, but I think that I still beeing a newbie in OS development.
I really love OS develoment and thats why I want to try with Android. (I know that is very hard, but I am making this for experience)
The AOSP requirements says that I new a Android device and its kernel source. (I am new and I can not post links)
I want to know, if there is any way to make a AOSP or custom ROM in a virtual machine? maybe using google pixel or nexus code?
I have an Android device but I am a complete newbie and I dont want try on real hardware yet.
Thanks for any help!

Greetings and welcome to assist. Plenty of devs use a virtual machine to build or even dual boot linux. There are plenty of prebuilt virtual machines at osbox and there are plenty of excellent guides to building in xda university

I have no problem to install Linux on real hardware, actually I have Arch Linux installed on real hardware and I used as my main OS.
What I want to know is, can I put AOSP or a Custom Android in a Virtual Machine? I mean, modify some code in a custom android and tested in a Virtual Machine?
Thanks for your time and help!

I mean that I want to modify Android OS to add functions, optimize, maybe modify the UI of the system, learn how Android is programed and that kind of things. I want to modify Android Source Code but I want to tested that code on a Virtual Machine on my PC.
Where can I get Android Source Code or any Custom ROM to start working on it?
Thanks for your help and time!

Here is the link for android studio
https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#features
For source code you can use cm/aosp or anything opensource. Resurrection remix is quite easy to set up as they have a lot of pre built scripts to help you set everything up

You have resolved everything that I needed!
An explain goes first:
This may surprise a lot of people, "Whaaaat? Isn't UEFI a kind of BIOS on PC?" Well, it can also be on your phone too, in fact.
This is an EDK II (UEFI) port for Mi Mix 2S. Currently it's incomplete, but already usable.
What is this port for?
This is an UEFI port, so there are many possibilities. As a second-stage bootloader, it can boot any ARM64 OSes that support UEFI.
At this point, both upstream Linux and Windows on arm are capable of booting. The UEFI firmware itself is very broken, so you should only use it as something which can help you boot OSes.
Status of this UEFI implementation:
Working:
Framebuffer
MMU
UFS
Not Working:
Everything else lol
Status of OS booting
Windows PE arm64 boots with the embedded broken ACPI tables, but nothing is working. You are welcomed to fix the ACPI tables if you can.
Ubuntu 20.04 unmodified iso (kernel 5.4) boots with the broken device tree that I writes.
See GitHub README.md for more details.
Some releases will be provided in the GitHub repo soon.
Source: https://github.com/edk2-porting/edk2-sdm845
Some pictures are provided in the GitHub repo.
You are welcomed to share your experience here if you have had a try.
Seems that I can upload photos now.
Nice project. Looks promising. I didn't test it yet and I'm no developer to support the project. just wanted to say to keep up with your work.
This is amazing!
wow thanks. thats so cool.
keep up the good work waiting for a working release.
I will be preparing for the College Entrance Examination in the next 12 months, so there should be someone to take over the project. You can join the project by telegram or QQ. Link is in the Github README. (You can also join if you are not really a developer)
I remember myself thinking 5-6 years ago ..why not phone companies don't introduce some sort of BIOS for phones? ...it would be awesome and you could even install any OS(..sort of)

hello i have a Motorola One Action and i want to port the edk2 to my Motorola One Action
Hello, I am very new to everything. My knowledge is basically limited to using Linux. Could someone tell me where I can find the documentation of how to build TWRP and LineageOS for an unknown phone.
Or tell me what the general process is.
I cannot understand anything, when trying to understand I feel like being faced to a wall and not understanding how the hell it works.
Thanks in advance,
Snow

This thread is a nice idea! But without tested links that have actual sources its in my opinion unnecessary. Take a look on the pinned threads. The first entry has no follow up.

yeah and the most advanced and fasted one is lyb rom and lyb kernel if you know what are you doing
If you wanna make thread like this at oeadt take care of 0roper one. Firt put which one is a11 and which one is a12. After this you jeed to put links. Otherewis3 dont know for what you made this thread. We something similar on telefgram

The purpose of this thread was to create a list where people could easily look up for ROM names and go their websites and download them.

I wouldn't recommend anyone using the kernel nor ROM. The kernel for one fries up phones and the dev is all about giving warnings about bricks. The ROM my friend is not at all smooth, just because the benchmarks are on another level that doesn't guarantee UI smoothness. Yes it does lag while scrolling or swiping, at least in my usage.

Did you know that you can go the ROMS website and download the build from there. Most the ROMS are not even available on XDA that's why I created this thread in the first place, and this just serves as a reference for picking or choosing a ROM and downloading it from their website or Google searching it. Howerver, as I have already mentioned I am always ready to provide the download links directly. FYI all these roms have been tested.
Hello AmmarHaseeb,
i won't bother you. Maybe im old school or call it lazy. Yes for me is interesting that all these roms have been tested.
For me is a forum a place where you can get informations from advanced users. Sometimes you get help and after a short while you are able to help others. Youre list is an example of the eat or die method. An easy link to youre search results is enough. Only my suggestions!

Actually I was busy with quite some work and didn't get enough time for providing links but for now you can join the official telegram group for the Poco x3 pro and discuss about any of the roms mentioned in my list - https://t.me/s/PocoX3ProUpdates
