I have idea for a new file sharing application but i need reviews about whether this idea will be good or not. In each file sharing app only a link is shared for public view but control remains in hand of person who uploaded the file. My idea is to make a 3D map where each file will be available to every person but the person who uploaded the file has control whether he wants to add a password or not. So all file will be present at a single map but at different coordinates. So person who is viewing file can either view the whole map and search for file he is looking for or he can get coordinates from other person. Basically the app will be like Minecraft map where all person are on same map and files are present like treasure chests at different locations.
If you have any suggestions about pro/cons of this idea then please share your views.

hi,
Can anyone recommend a sw that can log your current GPS position every xx seconds (configurable) to a file that can then be used with google earth or something similar on a PC to show your track? always having a gps with you opens up many possibilities
Have a look at Fransons GPS Gate, you get a free trial period to check it out and make sure it does what you want, to display the files it produces use GPSBabel to convert the data to the correct format to use with Google Earth - its not too difficult to get used to - Mike

Reperion. Offers the most comprehensive set of options for free. You can use every major online map you can imagine to track you or give to your friends and family, or you can even have your family track you live in google earth. Even supports, sound, video, and picture files and will place them on the map or in google earth at the place where you took them.

I hike and mountain bike. Many times when I am out in the wilderness there is just no data, so map information is unavailable. Also trail information is not a part of google maps data.
I was thinking a paid app for this would be great. You could charge for each map! You would need a web site where people could submit map images
Example: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/trails/blueHills.gif
Then some software to sync gps information with the image.
Then sell each map as a single application.
Image data could be stored on sdcard.
If someone wants to do this... I have no $$$ just the idea. I would be willing to do the labor of syncing the map image to gps data when people submit new locations. I am not a programmer, so the coding would be all you
You could also just steel this idea
If you do can you at least give me free versions of what ever location i request
Maverick, RMaps and a few others already do this and allow you to make custom maps, blah blah blah... Oh yeah, they're free too.
I am aware of "custom map" applications, I don't think either has the capability to place an image over the top of the custom map like the trail map above.
I'll play around with TrekBuddy and RMaps and see if it is doable
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
An "image" would be an KML or GPX file that would in face overlay on top of the map. Both Maverick and RMaps both do this.
How do you convert a .jpg or .gif to a KML or GPX file?
never mind
Get Point is an application for professionals and amateurs who need to record coordinates in an aggregated manner and then study the results on Google Earth.
Get Point also lets you record an entire route by foot or by car to also evaluate the result in Google's desktop application.
Ideal for professionals such as surveyors and geographers while a field work, but can also be used for fun, to mark their places of travels or visits.
This is a work in progress and was developed in order to learn the Android platform and also bring the public a quality tool. Any suggestion is welcome. Please send comments by e-mail.
Features:
- Groups of coordinates. A group can be a trip, a specific job, etc.;
- Marking of points within a group of coordinated, allowing to name the point;
- Record a route, letting you set the interval between recordings of the points, also allowing to name the route recorded;
- Sending points (KML file and Google Maps link) or route records (KML file) by e-mail;
- Quickly view a recorded point on Maps without having to export to the desktop;
- Export all records in the group to a KML file to later be viewed on Google Earth;
- And more.

Any comments or suggestions are wellcome!
My cousin was looking for an app like this; he's an ecology grad student. I'll forward him the link.
I tried to download it and i get an error that say " missing a shared library "
So is this going to someday evolve into something similar to the remote tracker app for WinMo?
Yes, I'm trying. But Android is very restrictive and lot's of commands I can't write.
I finally started RemoteTracker for Android:

Mapify helps sharing your location, by using pictures of Google street view with avatars for any location you choose. If you want to let your friend know where to pick you up, or you just want to share your location, Mapify is the perfect app for you. Its capture button allows you to choose the subject from a predefined list and then offers you sharing options, be it Facebook, Whatsapp, Viber or any other app you are just seconds away from sharing your location.
Mapify uses GPS to find your location, and if your location is supported by Google Street view then Mapify will automatically open in the street view, all you have to do is add an avatar in the exact place you are and press the capture button in order to share. The shared picture is also sent with a link to open a map of the selected location.
In case street view is not supported in your location, a map will be opened of your location and you can still add the avatars on the map and share it!
Please note that this is not the official Google Street View application nor are we affiliated with them in any way.

How to work with this app
If you feel that this lovely courtyard nearby really lacks the magic of tenants and some sculptures that you chanced to be passing will really look good with a little twist, then now you can do it right on the spot via your smartphone with the installed Shamworld app. A little left to do—to open the app and wait until your location has been found on the map using Google Maps data. A cute green ant will mark your location. All you need to do is to choose an object you would like to see here and to superimpose it into the camera image. When saving your version of the reality for a particular place, you may also share it with all or some of your friends. They will see your work in the Recommended section and will be able to check it out via the app. Various objects can be selected. There are plenty of ready images and even animated GIFs available in this app! You may choose your image in Gallery or add your own photos, emojis and texts.

Shamworld. Changing the reality
To make sure that the object has been tagged to a specific place, you need to choose an object that does not change its place, shape or color over time. That being said, it is unlikely that you can tag something to a backpack forgotten on a bench or to a cute cat sitting nearby. But it can be done easily with the bench itself. However, the tag might be lost if the bench gets changed or repainted one day but this happens not so often.
Shamworld and the world around you
When walking around the Shamworld map you must have already spotted yellow circles with numbers in it here and there. It indicates the number of objects placed by other app users. You may enjoy their arts and get some inspiration for new objects. There are several practical ways to use the Shamworld app. For example, when you go out of some cafe, you may leave your feedback right on its wall—without getting charged with vandalism. The cafe owner himself may place a creative ad in the app to make sure that no one misses it... 4-inch screen or above, RAM—at least 512 kB, camera—3MP or above, and Android 4.2 or above are required for app users. The better phone you have, the better it will all work for you. You may install the app by clicking Google Play :
