I have just received a WIfi module to control a small device.
This module is working on the 5 GHz band.
Basically you connect to the module (is set as an access point), and use an app to control the device with it.
Unfortunately my U12+ is not seeing the module (Not on 2.4 and 5GHz)
It does see other AP's on 2.4 and 5 GHz, and also connect to them when in range!
The U12+ is running Android 8.0.0 version 1.15.401.4
My older HTC 10 and other phones do see the module fine!
The module is about 2 meters away from the phones, so it's not out of range.
Anyone here who might know what could be wrong?

Maybe your phone / module region settings doesn't match. Not all countries uses same channels..
You might be correct. The module is on channel 149 @ the 5 GHz band and it looks like my phone does not have this channel.
I've now set the modules wifi to 2.4 GHz and it's working fine now.
However. it's strange that my old HTC 10 does see the module on 5 GHz and my new 12 does not.
Okay. the module is working fine on 2.4 GHz, but I would still like to try to get it to work on the 5 GHz band.
The module in question is transmitting on channel 149 (5745Ghz). Can someone here maybe confirm that the U12+ does(or does not?) work on this frequency?
I do see other "lower frequencies" AP's on the 5GHz band.
Thank you.

Sorry, I can't try all channels now....but is very likely that supports all channels because it is sold worldwide. Can you change the module channel instead?

Hi Andrea. Unfortunately I can not change the channel on the module. For reference the module is the DJI WIFI module for the Osmo Pocket.
It's not really a big problem as I can connect to it by 2.4 GHz, but it would be nice to be able to use the 5GHz as it's a bit faster for data transfer.

Looks like the 5GHz band of Wireless-N is NOT supported. Why would Moto drop support for this? Looks like another step backwards. Does anyone think this could be turned on via software? I know the EVO 4G had it's entire Wireless-N radio disabled by HTC out the gate and it was re-enabled via software by XDA Devs.

I believe that they used the Wilink 7.0 chipset which would have 5ghz support. However it's my guess they didn't want to include a 5ghz antenna for size and cost. Just my guess but I doubt seriously the Razr will work 5ghz if this turns out to be the reason. The Wilink 7.0 chipset allows for all comm on one chip and no external GPS chip with lower power.
I went 2.4 N on my router so it goes through walls better. 5ghz would not have had the range I needed
The specs indicate that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a/b/g/n capability.
Why is it that mine doesn't see my home N (5Ghz) network? (the router is broadcasting the SSID and I can connect with other devices)
Anyone else experience this? or know the reasoning?
Thanks.
Why don't you try to change that wifi router?
Sent from my GT-P5100 using XDA Premium HD app
802.11 N can use 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz (depend on hardware spec), and usually 5 Ghz spectrum are used in some high end / outdoor router. Almost all smartphone and handheld device use standard 2.4 Ghz, so you can set your router to use 2.4 Ghz and "n" network.

Ah.. I see. This must be it. My network is certainly set to 5Ghz. It's interesting to note that my older Atrix can see the 5Ghz network, but the Tab 2 cannot.

its because 5ghz was thought to be the next band standard but it didnt catch on as intended
Hello all,
I searched everywhere but I couldn't find a straight answer for this issue. Does this phone support wireless ( Wi-Fi ) on the 5 GHz band ?
I don't care if it is 802.11n or 802.11ac standard but does it detect a wireless router running on the 5 GHz frequencies ?
Anybody who has a dual band router can test this out and see if the 5 GHz network is also seen or not.
I have a router which only works on 5 GHz ( single band ) so I want to buy this phone but I want to know if it will work otherwise I will look for something else.
Thank you in advance !!!

Thank you for helping out ! I look forward to your response.
Man,
I forgot how to check in the router for 2ghz and 5ghz wifi bands...
My router is showing the channels to be used only.... and wifi bgn ...
How do i check the 5ghz ??
I know i've read about this somewhere but cant recollect it now...
If you reply, then maybe i can check now since i am at home...

What model of router do you have ?
Change the SSID to be different for the 2.4 GHz radio and for the 5 GHz radio.
For example : name 2.4 GHz network like "MyNet24" and the 5 GHz network like "MyNet5" etc.
And if your phone can see both "MyNet24" and "MyNet5" then it is dual band and I have confirmed it.
Or you can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en to check it !

Ok.. DIdnt understand anything much about making 2 ssid's so i used the app...
the app shows me 2.4 and 5 ghz channels... and in 2.4 all are ticked.... whereas in 5ghz a few are ticked...
channels in 5ghz
161 (5805 mhz)
157 (5785 mhz)
153 (5765 mhz)
149 (5745 mhz)
48 (5240 mhz)
44 (5220 mhz)
40 (5200 mhz)
36 (5810 mhz)
so i deselected 2.4 ghz channels and tried.... doesnt allow me to deselect all...
i have a TPLINK wr740n router.
tell me how to check more,,, or if this helps you..
Edit : in the wifi settings of the router i have only 2 channel widths 20 mhz and 40 mhz...and channels available are from 1 to 13.
I've kept both on auto... this i know i can change to a particular channel or even a channel width,, but i just let it be because my last router got screwed trying
to fix something in dd-wrt
Hello.
I an having an issue with my sm-g955fd phone. I need to use the 5ghz frecuency for wifi and I can't seem to make it work. Flashed Renovate Ice 9.5 and tried many different csc's but none enables 5ghz wifi. If anyone could point me to which custom rom to flash or csc to try. I would be most greatful forever.
Thanks in advance.

How's 5ghz work when on stock OS?
Does it support the 5ghz wifi (hardware wise)?
I know most devices are still on the 2.5 or 2.4 (don't know exactly which).

Yes of course it does. All Samsung phones have used 5GHz for years.
If there is a problem getting an S8 to work then it's either a (rare) fault, or due to the custom ROM.

5ghz didnt work either on stock rom. That's why i first tried changing it to a custom rom.

All S8/S8+ variants include support for 5 GHz WiFi. Are you sure you have properly set up your AP? Does the 5G connection work with some of your other devices? Try getting closer to the AP. If it does not work by then, it is likely a hardware fault.

As others have stated Samsung phones and other makes of high end phones have supported
2.4GHz and 5GHz wi fi for several years.
Although I wouldn't expect your problem to be caused by a custom Rom else other users of the ROM would likely have reported the problem , I would suggest putting a standard official Samsung rom on your phone at least until you get your wi fi functionality.
I would suggest a free play store app like wi fi analyser to easily determine which wi fi signals are seen by your S8+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
Also be aware when you do get 5GHz working you will notice higher data bandwidth than with 2.4Ghz but less range from your router to your phone before signal drop out.

I did some research and on gsmarena I found that Galaxy S8+ uses the Wi-Fi 802.11 (https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s8+-8523.php)
Went on Wikipedia and it seems that this 802.11 support communication in the 900 MHz and 2.4, 3.6, 5, and 60 GHz frequency bands. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11)
Also, I checked my home network and the router is working both on 2.4 and 5, however, the 5 (which is set as another network) can't be used y any device (no laptop or smartphone).
I don't want to create confusion here, but it seems this 5ghz frequency is not as usual as the 2.4 one. And by checking my Internet connection speed on the 2.4ghz frequncy, it looks like there is no advantage of using the 5 frequency (my Internet speed on wifi is close to the Internet speed via Lan cable).

802.11 has a large number of subcategories
802.11a
802.11b
802.11n
802.11ac
and a vast number of others.
These have different frequency allocations and different channel bandwidth.
I could have explained better that in some cases 2.4Ghz will give adequate throughput (at or close to your internet speed)
802.11g is a 2.4Ghz standard with maximum of 54Mbps
However if internet speed is much higher as in my case then I get benefits from using
802.11ac 5GHz standard with single link bandwidth up to 500Mbps.
I would agree that wi fi using 5GHz probably not as common usage as 2.4Ghz which can have additional benefits as less potential for interference from nearby wi fi that uses same frequency range

I use 5G all the time..have high speed internet so see big diff. Since you say none of your devices can connect to 5G, you should play around with channel used..know there is a diff between US and Europe and channels used.
If you see same speed from reg wifi and hardwired lan line..5G will not make a diff.
Thanks to everyone i deffinitely cant get it to work. The reason I need 5ghz is cause i am using a slinstudio device wich works only on 5ghz frecuency and i cant connect to it. So i tried other 5ghz networks and found that i cant connect either. I guess i will have to change phones or something but its a shame i cant get it to work.
Another potential solution is to check your router's IP blocklist. I had the S7 Edge and now the S9+ and apparently the phone may spam the router with UDP requests making the router think you are performing a DDOS attack. Clearing the IP your phone is using from the block list may resolve the issue.
S8 on 5ghz WiFi
To get your device to run on 5ghz WiFi all you need to do is ...
Open WiFi connections ...
Add new network ...
Type out your SSID followed by a (space) and the number 2 ...
So ... if your SSID is homeWiFi ... you need to add homeWiFi 2 ... the pass key is the same and won't need changing

Your router is likely using a channel assignment that isn't available to your client devices, check the ETSI standards for acceptable use on the 5GHz band if you're in Europe.

Hi I got realme 5 pro 8gb variant 2 days ago as per specs it supports dual-band wifi 5ghz but it is not detecting my 5ghz wifi from the router. can someone please help me with this?
I tried to change the channel but in vain. That 5ghz wifi is shown on my laptop but not on phone.
Almost the same happens with my Realme Q. When I share hotspot on 2.4 GHz every device detects it and is able to connect. When I share 5 GHz mobile devices won't see it neither does my old Desktop PC that has wifi adapter.

I think the issue has something to do with antenna of the device and which bands does it support. Perhaps? I'm sure they use different bands in china and different lte/4g/wifi technologies there than someplace else, other countries in the world.
