What is the difference (SM-J327P) and (SM-J337P) - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Questions & Answers

Is the J337pvpu2arj2 just a updated version of the 2017 J3TOPELTESPR I am wanting to go ahead and root my phone with previous success using twrp and supersu but I want to make sure that I have the correct files from SamMobile before I do anything

twrp
did the twrp for that model work on the j337p??

Yes that is correct but I believe the question is what is the actual difference. If the logic board are essentially the same and only the programing is the difference between the 2017 J3 Prime and the 2018 J3 Prime. After that are many other questions that I have. Like If I have two devices that are using the exact same logic board and components like these two. Can I flash the firmware from the 2018 which is running Android 9 into the 2017 to update it. And lets say I have found a way around the locked bootloader just to get that out of the way.

I don't have two devices to compare but i know one thing there's a bixby button on the 2018 version while the 2017 version does not have one. Also according to some websites the processor is different between the two.

I have no idea what website you visited and your information gleened from it is slightly incorrect. I have the two devices here in front of me and the Bixby or Home button is on both. I do admit that the J337 has two processors but here on XDA that standpoint defies logic. I also have before me one of the Flagship Samsung tablets from so many years ago. The galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) wifi later called the p4wifi. This is a single core device. Thanks to an XDA developer named Defcat (I believe) it is now using the firmware from the Nexus 5 which is a quad-core device. Sorry to say, with the information I have just provided, it is difficult believe that standpoint. If I can only get passed this Bootlock on the J327 I would already be experimenting with different firmware. I believe the page creators question is still relevant.

Determining compatible firmware
I believe the page creator is intending to update his J327. He seems to question if the firmware of the j337 would be compatible. If he's not, I certainly am. It would seem that stating one device having a 4 core CPU cannot be compatible with a device using a 2 core CPU is untrue. My old (single core) Tab now using 4 core firmware is proof to the contrary. So let me clarify this question. What is it exactly, that determines what firmware is compatible with another device?

Can we expect development for J7 2016 SM-J710FN

I don't know if it's too early to ask this but stock marshmallow firmware for SM-J710FN is already there on sammobile. Is this what developers call sourcecodes, required for development purposes(kernels, etc) or do we still need to wait for some other source codes yet to be released by Samsung for SM-J710FN??

We may expect development because Samsung did released the source code. However, I think there aren't much developers who are using this device, as most developers prefers cheaper for better devices than this.
There is not much need as well. Our device is optimized pretty well and has best battery backup which one would need. We may even get the official Android Nougat.

what is the difference between SM-J710F and SM-J710FN? Are the roms compatible with each other?
I'm sure its a stupid question; I have just registered after lurking for a while.

[Firmware] G935UUEU4API3 Odin Files & Modded Odin

I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.

Here's the modded Odin that I used. This is from the root thread and never once failed to flash anything on any device I've thrown at it: http://d-h.st/gsDA
Thank you for simplifying this process.
You're welcome. I'm here to help.... The other thread was too much of a mess!
Thanks joe3681, for all of your efforts.
Where online can I find a list of updates or a version history for the Samsung S7 Edge (T-mobile)?
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.

No, the U firmware is still the September security patch level. It's so much smoother/faster though. Especially rooted.

I followed the O.P. in the post root issues thread, doing nothing more and nothing less than what they said to do. No lag, normal temperature.
Thank you
OP thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I just bought my SM-G935T from ebay. I noticed some lag with the S7 Edge and of course all the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware.
I flashed all of the files then did a system cache wipe. I have not noticed lag so far and now have 20 GB of the 32 GB free.
One question though. Where will the phone check for updates? Will it get updates from Samsung or T-Mobile?
TWRP help
.
I just got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and have been doing a lot of reading here on XDA about this device. I have had all the galaxy's since Galaxy II.
I have rooted / custom recovery / custom ROM all of them. I know there basically is not much out yet as far as ROMS go for the S7e, but I would like to instal
TWRP and root the phone. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to how to do this exactly. Each "How-To" that I run into are a little bit different and scares
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.

Spend more time reading around the forums before you try anything, but to answer your questions:
1) TWRP not possible on TMobile S7/S7E
2) Root is possible, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470

Hello,

it wont work on this one ? I did a little more reading and found this

Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.

The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.

Nope. It is highly unlikely that a custom kernel or even rom to be made for this device as no one is developing anything on it. The device has reached end of life considering it is a budget device after all.

No problem and i am aware since she helped make sampwned32 for the sm-j327t and sm-j327t1 I found the root method that was used on the s8 variant with a locked bootloader and brought it up and even tested the root method on the device and it worked. But a month later samsung released a new update that patched it. If it wasn't for ashyx converting the files from ARM64 to ARM this method would have never worked. Also after samsung patched the root method they only released one more security update and ended up cancelling the android oreo update for metropcs and tmobile after we was told our device would get it. Oh boy i was pretty pissed. Like come on samsung you could atleast unlock the device's bootloader and allow us to make our own custom roms which would be alot better and would be oreo based. It is sad how samsung forgot about us and didn't even bother to release a new phone to the metropcs and tmobile market in the budget area. The mid range J7 Prime got more love than this device did fr.

How do I root a Samsung Galaxy S7 Verizon (SM-G930V) Android Oreo 8.0?

How do I do it
I got the same exact one 3 days ago. It's on 8.0.0 now. I have been reading a lot to find answers how to root or install twrp. It looks like there is not a straight forward answer. Just development guides that are not so clear on if there is are for sure way to root or unlock bootloader.
Everything looks to lead me to the same answer. Snapdragon us variants like ours are bootloader blocked so no twrp. Can we use safestrap? What can we do to root and install custom? Even if it's it's a touchwiz. I have an s4 I'm also playing with. I wish my s7 could do what the the s4 does. But samsung us trying to let carriers like Verizon block our bootloaders Hendering our abilities to use the phones like we want. It sucks.
I hope for a method soon myself. I hope that someone can steer us the right way.

You echo my Frustrations. It feels good not to be the only one thinking these things. I think the reason there aren't any straightforward answers is because people are afraid of being sued. Why stop there? It begins with the owner of the phone who wants to root in the first place. They should sue themselves.
it doesn't seem logical to me. If I'm driving and, God forbid, I kill someone with my car do the people that taught me to drive get sued? it isn't an exactly perfect Analogy, but it's enough to start discussion, anywhere but here on this thread. LOL
Another thing is that phones are already very customized in that there are so many of them and they all function so differently even with the same ROM on a different provider Network does different things. it's probably difficult to give you the exact perfect set of instructions for your specific phone. Therefore knowing about Android and Linux and stuff is very helpful for filling in the gaps I will inevitably have. I have no such training and the times I have delved into it I"ve become completely lost.
A rudimentary understanding I do have. So I choose settings with the mindset of increasing the device lifespan, but nothing monumental.

The Qualcomm variants (your phone) are a little more difficult to root and there are several guides online how to do it but you have to make sure the guide says it is to root RK2 firmware on Oreo. RK2 has the December security patch i believe so there may not be a specific guide for that firmware yet but you can try and earlier guide which still works on your device after the December security patch.
This is to root G930V on Nougat from Jan 9 this year, it may work on Oreo too https://www.skyneel.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s7-verizon-sm-g930v-twrp-recovery
You could of course flash G930U firmware too which is unbranded USA and is known to work on Verizon devices. Sammobile XAA and USC. There is a modified version of Odin 13 to flash Verizon phones.

The Samsung A30 has been receiving One ui 2.0 in Asia as from 3 days ago. I hope we are next.
Samsung is not following their schedule. They released one ui 2.0 for Galaxy M20 last year way before several flagships and mid tier phones got it.
They also have released one ui 2.0 for the A30 before the A80,A70,A40 blah blah.
I really hope that they port it to the A20 and provide it before May.

I will upgrade as soon as it is available. I'm sure that we will manage to have working TWRP and therefore working GSIs, after all unlocking the bootloader is what really matters.
I'm not sure how this works but vendor partition may be updated with blobs that have better compatibility for Android 10, which will be great if we want to go to Android R

I waited for so long.
I was beginning to give up.
Problem is, my country is usually the last to get updates. I might get it earliest in September or early Novembers. :crying: or maybe not at all.

What's yours?
Omg, it's already here ! I've been waiting since October ???
if you are as excited as me to get it, you can download the firmware that have the OneUi 2 (change the CSC) and flash it through Odin (no rooting required, or warranty voided)
THANK YOU for this helpful thread
