Well if it fails installing another rom I don't know if your stock rom would remain intact, so a hard reset would not help you. Flashing stock rom would, but its not always guaranteed.

A device with that hardware is going to be laggy no matter what you do.
Also, android isn't like PC, you can't just install whatever OS you want.
It is "possible" to install linux on android devices, but thr method to do so is different depending on the device.

[Q] Could it be hacked to install another "recovery" partition and custom rom ?

[Q] Could it be hacked to install another "recovery" partition and custom rom ?
I have bought a relatively cheap (not big brand) 1GHz due-core smartphone which runs Android 4.0.3. Recently, the SMS program crashes everytime I open it and I want to reflash the original Android 4.0.3 rom again. However, the manufacturer only flashes an Android 4.0 rom for my phone and serves me in a not-so-friendly way. They do not provide any information for the customers to reflash their Android roms themselves, and they also do not provide any information on rooting their phone. I have used the phone for just more than half a year and the phone's Android has crashed for 3 times.
I wonder is that any way that I could find out the hardware config of my smartphone and do some hacking to install some custom recovery and Android rom (e.g. Cyanogenmod) in the market. I do not want to depend on the manufacturer any more to accept their business manner.
Is there any suggestion or solution. Thanks a lot.

Coby Kyros MID8127

Hi guys,
I just bought a new Coby Kyros MID8127 tablet (A8, Android 2.3) for my friend.
Now, I want to flash a custom ROM with JB on it, but I just did not find any ROM, CWM or tutorial for that here at XDA (or elsewhere).
Is it possible, that there is no custom ROM for that tablet to have?
Thank you in advance.
Greetings,
sYCO
I have the same tablet and I bought a custom ROM from the people at KTZ, however, I could not install this ROM successfully, in order to install it I had to take the tablet to factory reset state and then delete a bunch of system applications to make room for the new ROM because the ROM does not allow you to install it from a formatted system partition (it's more like an upgrade). But when I finally installed the ROM it wuold not boot a second time; what that means is that, after installation the ROM boots normally but if I reboot it gets caught in a loop where I just see a blue disk spinning and it doesn't do anything else and the only way to get it out of that loop is to connect the USB cable and boot to recovery via adb and restore the backup that i did before flashing the new ROM. I tried to get help from the guy who makes these ROMs but he wasn't very helpful. I followed all his instructions and always got the same result.
I managed to install manually most of the components of this ROM through a long process of trial and error and left out the components that make the tablet misbehave and now I have a hybrid on my tablet which works pretty well with the exception of the wifi. The wifi works but at times is painfully slow.
I tried other ROMs from Android Tablet forums (check here). There is an ICS Rom there (or more than one, I don't remember) and also a JB ROM for the 8127 but I could not make them work on my tablet. The ICS ROM installed fine and runs very fast but it keeps freezing so I uninstalled. The Jelly Bean did not install properly and it was very hard to get the tablet to a working state after it bricked.
That was a while ago and I haven't checked lately if there is something else out there.

Sorry, I gave that tablet back and cannot test it anymore. I rather recommend to buy an Ainol Novo 7 Crystal. It is cheaper, better and ****ing fast with a nice custom ROM support like CM 10, CM 10.1, Paranoid 3.0, Crystal-Fuse, ...
Btw, KTZ sucks totally.

Sim Card Issue on 5.1

Hello,
I've been using Android 4.4 since I got my OPO, and I decided to try out Lollipop.
1. Updated recovery to TWRP 2.8.7.0.
2. Flashed ROM
3. Flashed GApps
4. Flashed SuperSU 2.46
5. Wipe dalvik/cache
6. Reboot
7. Unlock phone with pincode
My phone now says that I need to insert my simcard. It is really strange that it is asking for my PIN code (It detects my SIM), and then afterwards saying that I need to insert a SIM Card.
I tried 3 different ROMs; Paranoid, OxygenOS and CM12.
You also flashed an updated firmware package for Lollipop, yes?

No I did not. I have not been active in these forums nor in OPO forums. Did I screw up by not flashing a firmware package first?
People with similar issue said they restored their EFS backup, but I have no backup of these, I do not even remember people recommending it back when I got my phone.
Did I screw up big time?

First of all see if an updated firmware package helps. Try to flash this one (with TWRP 2.8.6.0 or older, neeer versions won't flash it correctly):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952604019
Be aware that for this firmware you must have a newer ROM (built > 15.05.2015)
In Case your EFS got corrupted, try to look at this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/fix-brickloop-audio-fx-fc-efs-corrupt-t2879061
One more thing to do is to check a different SIM, it happened to me that the card just died on me out of nowhere.

You can try and look at these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/ref-oneplus-one-modem-collection-t2858734
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/cm11-cm12-firmware-repository-t3019881
and general (from Cyanogen):
What's a "firmware", anyway?
Okay, here's a little history:
In the past, many simple appliances and electronics-- everything ranging from advanced toasters to microwaves to industrial machines ran on "embedded", limited-purpose computer chips (micro-controllers and such) to control their operations and user interfaces. Those embedded systems would require miniature, specialized software to, say, let someone program the VCR or to receive input from a remote control to change a TV's channel.
Traditionally, this software would be written on small-capacity memory chips, usually to be written once during manufacturing and never upgraded during the life of the product. This embedded software was known as "firmware" (halfway between software and hardware), and it still exists on many electronic products, containing the programming/logic stuff that makes much of the electronic gizmos you own work. Sometimes this firmware can be updated and new functions or bug fixes may be added. For something like a refrigerator or microwave, updating the firmware is usually a torturous process, and for most electronic things, it isn't necessary.
In the case of Android phones and tablets, as well as iOS devices-- despite the fact that they may appear simply to be a phone that can run apps, what you actually have in your hand is a full-fledged, general-purpose computer. So while in the past, the "firmware" was just the simple software to make a mobile phone work, the name "firmware" has stuck to describe the software you load onto your phone, much like you'd load any operating system onto a computer.
So to be clear-- today, your Android devices are in fact very similar to your laptop and desktop computers. Because they are now based on so-called SoCs, or "system on a chip"s, modern Android devices are effectively tiny, low-power laptops, only with touch screens instead of keyboards. CyanogenMod, based on Android, is a full-fledged operating system, just like Windows, OS X, or Linux are on laptop computers. In fact, Android runs on a version of the Linux kernel, and you can even run a full Linux desktop on many Android devices just as you would on a regular laptop.
The term "firmware", then, is just a legacy terminology to refer to the software you put on your handheld devices. But speaking realistically, you may as well think of it as "software, particularly an operating system and apps, that can be put on my device."
Hope that helps.

Upgrade to any possible new Android/ROM version

First of all, i hope I'm not the only one in this forum!
I just found my old cellphone and want to get most of it, and good to mention now, there is almost noway to use any application because this is an old Android rooted version. I even not able to use my google account to get google play!
I know what download and recovery mode are, but it's shame to say i don't know how to get there in this phone! believe or not there is no file manager here! Now I'm thinking how did i pass days with this phone!?
I did a reset factory and hoped to see some improvements, but nothing got better!
So if anyone here and read my post please help me to get a fresh start
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Baseband Version: 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.1-gd2564fb
Best advice: start reading the threads in the General section. There should be multiple threads on how to root and to get S-Off on this device.
Custom ROMs up to Android 6.0.1 are available, and I currently have Android 5.1.1 on my roommate's old phone. However, on these old devices bootup times run nearly ten minutes, not including app optimization, and overall performance suffers. Android 6.0.1 will not install at all unless the /data partition is moved to the MicroSD card as the /system partition is too small.
If looking to tinker, the unofficial build of Cyanogenmod 12.1 for this device is likely the best option, as there's no need to move the /data partition.
EDIT: Did not notice the date of the original post.

Help finding custom roms for this device (Ilumite T2)

heyo,
i'm trying to breath some new life into this 10" random no-name tablet but can't find any info on how to do so anywhere.
it doesn't look like anyone made any custom roms for this device, from what i searched.
it has a really old version of android and it runs pretty badly due to it likely being riddled with bs malware (even after a factory reset some adware apps install themselves)
would it be possible/how hard would it be to roll my own custom firmware for it?

My guess is you'll find neither a Custom Recovery nor a Custom ROM for this tablet because it's based on a x86 Intel Atom CPU.
