I would really like to root my phone to get access to the Android 9.0 features, but I don't want to lose the stock camera. I know GCam port exists, but there are things that it can't do that I like doing on the stock cam. So is there any hope we can use it on an S9 version? Or would Samsung need to do that?
Only way to use the Samsung Camera would be to be on Samsung's Android, due to proprietary code that powers the camera.
If you want Android 9.0 features, and the Samsung camera, you'd need a 9.0 ROM port from the Note or S9, which don't exist because 9.0 hasn't arrived on these devices yet.
If you only want the latest camera, there's usually camera ports like https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/themes/port-samsung-s9-camera-port-ar-emoji-t3826284

Will the Galaxy Camera ever get an update to 4.2 (official or not)? I couldn't find anything so there's probably no information about that I guess.
Since I share one digital camera with several people it would be cool if everyone could have his own account on the device.
Hi All,
Does anyone know if there is a way to update the SM-P900 ROM but still keep full functionality for the S-Pen, and Samsung apps?
I'm on 5.0.2, have TWRP installed, and am rooted.
I tried a 6.0.1 CM ROM, but it loses a lot of the ability that the Samsung ROM has, as well as many people mentioning that it has issues with the S-Pen causing crashes.
Basically, I'd like to get the security updates, and 6.0.1 options, without losing the rest of the Note functionality, because it feels like CM removes the whole point of being on a Note Tablet, which for me is the S-Pen.
CM is fine and all, but it's always felt too AOSP for me, when used on devices like the Note series.
My Note 3 is on a Note 5 port, that allows basically everything to be modified without losing the important features, and I realize that might not be a realistic expectation on the 12.2 Pro, it seems like a waste of good hardware for the background OS not being updated yet still maintaining itself as a Note device.
Any thoughts on if this is possible, or is it simply a matter of the hardware lacking the ability to run 6.0.1 and the software lacking the compatibility?
Thank you!
This isn't likely what you want to hear. But Samsung's "feel" relies on its TouchWiz interface, which for our tablet is not available in Marshmallow. However, if you want a rooted tablet that's somewhat debloated yet still has TouchWiz, I'd recommend the excellent CivZ Lollipop. Perhaps you know of it already. If not...

Hi guys, I'm currently using LOS as daily, i love this rom. but the only thing is camera, I've tried every gcam and no one works on my phone. Ive come with idea if someone will port original camera from coloros to work on custom rom. it would be great if someone work on it. thanks anyway and i will look for it
I know that to make a stock camera for custom ROMs in difficult but not impossible. By the way, there is fix for gcam working in LOS made by user vetefan. works like a charm. But no gcam have eis, 60 fps, 4k, 48MP, macro, wide lens support. And in all gcams resolution is limited to 12 MP front and 4MP back camera, slow-mo. So gcam although makes nice night shots, cannot use efficiently our camera hardware. And the camera is one of the major assets of our R5Pro. That's why I end up in stock rom with magisk. So it would be major contribution to R5 Pro society if someone could get stock camera working on custom ROMs.
here fix for gcam in Los( thanks to vetefan):

Same here. Been looking into the issue but oppo cam app can't really be installed without it's libs outside color os environment. We've been trying a lot of things out and experimenting with the guys on telegram to make it work but without success so far. Stay tuned.
Hello to everyone.
I know this isn't the place for my subject.
But I've been looking for a long time.
And the section of applications and problems is almost unseen.
Please excuse the members and supervisors
In fact, after trying out a lot of cooked turkeys,
I couldn't find the original camera quality for Samsung.
In the oreo version 8
Specifically, it's about rear cam selfie.
The original camera gives an impression and effect that I didn't find in the Android pie cameras.
I searched a lot online to find the original Android 8 camera with all its components and effects.
But I couldn't.
I want to get the original camera with its effects on Android 9.
Since I can't stay on Android 8 right now.
And at the same time, I don't want to lose this great camera.
I hope you pay attention.
If you use AOSP Pie, you won't get Samsung stock camera working respectively Samsung stock camera results.
I'm not sure about Pie stock ported versions like FloydQ (it's Q, not Pie, actually), but as they're based on Samsung firmware, there could be a better chance that you'll get your desired results.

I'm already on the TW version
And I tried most of the pie versions
But it's not good as the original Oreo camera.
By the way... Other oreo-based roms aren't the same as the original.
The only rom that has the same camera quality is a super-man rom.
I tried to extract the camera files from him and insert them in other roms with a rom control, but I failed.
I wish I could find what I'm looking for.
To get the same quality as the original Oreo camera on the pie.
Can this feature from the S21 be brought to the Z Fold 2? Or maybe it's already there and I just can't find it?
I remember this feature on my S8 on Android 8 and loved using it for capturing vacations and especially amusement parks!
It'll most definitely be there in oneUI 3.1 but if you want to use the stock camera app, you'll have to wait for that update. Not sure if other camera apps are capable of something similar though.

Apparently it is not included in stock 3.1
