Disable "Password Required For Additional Security" - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Occasionally, while on call, or when I open my phone, I get this message (image below)
"Password required for additional security"
I have fingerprint unlock saved in the settings. Instead of allowing fingerprint unlock, it requires entering my password/pin. I use a long and secure password, so it takes time to enter it and make sure it's correct. I already enter this password everytime my phone boots, so this additional request is extremely annoying and unnecessary.
Does anyone know Why this additional request is made? What triggers it? Or How to disable it?
Any help is appreciated

I get this occasionally and I have a short pin. I think it is very much "backing" up fingerprint security since no security is perfect. Good security involves something you have "fingerprint" and something you know "pin" since it would be very unlikely an imposter would have both. I would be very surprised if there is a way to turn the random check of your pin off.

Unfortunately, this "security check" can make your device LESS secure, because it happens at random times. If you're in the grocery store, at someone's house, or anywhere with security camera's, then entering your Pin/Password can be recorded on video. More businesses and people are installing camera's everyday.
In these situations using Fingerprint (instead of Pin) is More Secure. It's for this reason I want to disable it randomly requiring pin/password

hate this
Yep I hate the one that programed this security feature without an obvious way to turn it off, we don't no one telling us what is good for our security. I want it to unlock everytime I touch the finger print scanner, even at startup, and if anything I want it to lock down if I use a certain finger and then require a password.
Mod edit: Removed unacceptable language.

I actually have a pretty simple PIN just because of this situation otherwise fingerprint is just fine :/

can this be disabled? everyone can see me type in my pin when this happens

Security, screen locking

First I'd better cover myself - yes I have searched first and not got the answers!
I'd like to be able to lock my phone so that someone who comes along to try and use it is prompted with a password. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
However, I don't want to be prompted to enter a password every time I turn it on. This means I need to be able to choose to lock it or not when I feel like it. Having to set a password and unset it each time is a real pain.
The old solutions to make this easier - Picture Password, Kai's lock tool etc don't work at all on WM6.
The new, great slidy tool that looks like iPhone doesn't do it either.
Does anyone else have this feature or a workaround? It sounds so simple and it's what I do with my PC all the time. Thanks.
some older pda's had fingerprint readers for that purpos

Fingerprint setup

How do i setup only fingerprint reader to unlock my phone? I can only seem to have it ask for pin, swipe or password after reading fingerprint
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers Legacy app
You can't, you must have a backup method. If you just want a fingerprint unlock set it to be a bunch of random numbers for a pin and forget them.
You need a backup in case the phone ever has trouble reading your fingerprint. Also, the phone will ask for your backup whenever it restarts.
Bad idea to use just fingerprint. I was working with food and water bare handed and afterwards the fingerprint scanner couldn't recognize my fingers until they un-shriveled
Also when the phone reboots in needs a back up to re enter ...Or if you fill the fingerprint more then five times
As others have mentioned, but I'll say again. You can't/shouldn't for many reasons, such as:
You need to enter your PIN/Pattern when your phone reboots.
You need to unlock your phone with gloves on, wet hands, dirty hands, or otherwise the reader is unusable.
You need to unlock your phone with the phone flat on a surface.
You need to ever reset your phone.
You need to change private information like Android Pay, Play Store Purchases, etc. that need at least an initial PIN/password to use.
So just to clear this up, you don't have two lock screens right? You don't have to use fingerprint then use pin to unlock?

Separate app sound keeps getting turned off

Does anyone else have issues with the separate app sound setting getting turned off? It's pretty damn annoying to have to turn it back on every time I reboot my S8+
On the note of annoying things at reboot, why does the phone require a password instead of your finger print, retina, or pattern if you have them set up? It doesn't make any sense to me, especially when it seems like either of the bio-metric options are much more secure than just a password.
Thanks.
For me it's secure boot that turns itself off. What's more interesting that you usually need to type in your password to confirm disabling secure boot but it doesn't ask for it.
Just wondering if anyone discovered a method to automatically enable this feature after reboot? Maybe something Tasker could trigger?

[APP][6.0+] Disable fingerprint -- Does exactly what the app titles suggest

Fingerprint is great, you can easily unlock your device authenticate a purchase and do other great things. Fingerprint offers great convince but it may be less secure than a strong PIN, pattern, or password. A copy of your fingerprint could be used to unlock your phone. So what this app allows you to disable fingerprint at lock screen preventing someone from accessing your phone.
You might be thinking .... Wait a minute why would i need to disable fingerprint, Its secure, unique and only i have access to my fingerprints. Well you are right. But in some scenarios you can be forced or someone can use your fingerprint without your knowledge and can do harm to your device.
Scenario 1 :
Assume you are living in a joint family or in hostel or in some similar situation and while you are sleeping, someone can easily access your phone by using your fingerprint.
Or simply you have smaller brother/sister who just plays game all night with your phone by unlocking you device with your fingerprint.
Scenario 2:
Assume you are in a situation where you can be forced to unlock your device using fingerprint. In such situation you can prevent someone from accessing your device(assuming you already disabled fingerprint using the app ). Now some of you might argue , in such situation we can be forced to give up pin/pattern/password. You are right but revealing pin/pattern/password is up to you where as someone can be easily forced to unlock there device with fingerprint.
I can't mention every possible scenario where this app can be useful, but i this app is useful to you i would love to hear your story.
How to use
- Lock you device using this app
Your device is now locked and fingerprint will no longer work. Now you are required to enter your pin/pattern/password to unlock your device.
- Unlock your device with pin/pattern/password
Fingerprint is enabled again after unlocking with pin/pattern/password for normal use again.
Its that simple!!!

Android lock screen password / PIN / Pattern

Hello;
After looking for hours about this I'm very angry because of the stupidity of Google. Here I go:
I have configured fingerprint to unlock my phone because I sometimes can't or it's very uncomfortable for me to unlock my phone with a password / PIN / Pattern because using with one hand and I need to unlock as fast as possible all the time.
Now it comes the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life: no matter what, the phone will ask me to enter whatever I have configured for security, rendering my fingerprint totally useless. This is completely nonsense because it's not configurable by the user. The correct way of doing this is to enable an option for the user to choose: "Additionally ask every 72 hours for the password to provide extra security". Just a checkbox that can be enabled or disabled, because Google should think about the user. This security crazy paranoia is making devices less secure, because people who don't want to enter their password when they have configured fingerprint choose to disable security completely to stop being asked for the damn password.
But I'm asking here because I absolutely know there is a way to disable this, I don't care if it involves hacking / opening / soldering the device, anything to stop this will be welcome, because for me is completely necessary, or else I will have to either sell the phone or disable security completely. Entering the password on startup or when your finger fails 3 times is ok and full of sense, I have no problems with that, but every 72 hours because yes is an absolute no-no, sorry.
I hope somebody knows the exact formula to [email protected] Google / Xiaomi back, because they are simply stupid.
Thanks.
P.S: Please, if you are about to say things like "it's a feature" or "I like it, it makes more secure your device so it makes sense" or "somebody could cut your finger and use it", I prefer you don't post a comment, because I'm looking for a solution not an explanation on why it is like that to understand why the things are done like they are done, I hope you understand.
How about a factory reset?

I think this is the right decision.

This is bad design from Google. When I was in the crowd (e.g. inside the train), people surrounding me were looking at my finger typing the PIN as I was not able to unlock it using my fingerprint anymore after 72 hours. It makes the phone becoming very insecure. You should lock the phone with PIN only when I am not inside the crowd (e.g. during evening hour)
