May be any unofficial way which utilises TWRP?

Well the obvious answer is to try a dirty flash. Mileage will vary. Official answer is to do a clean flash which is a part of the warning when first installing the OB.

I did a factory reset in twrp, install 9.0.3, flash twrp, reboot twrp, flash magisk, reboot, all good...no loss pictures and music. I had to let google reinstall apps and settings from last Google backup, it's all automatic so no worries as long as you have previously let Google back up your apps and settings

Thanks! I've made an adb full backup and restored it later.

How to downgrade from 5.1.8 to 5.1.7?

Hello, i'm currently on oos 5.1.8 with twrp and magisk installed, I'm facing battery draining and would like to downgrade to 5.1.7, is this possible? If so how can i do that?
Thanks
Were you on 5.1.7 before going to 5.1.8. If so, all you have to do is reboot to twrp and change slot to other 1. Then for me because i use custom kernel so i reflash kernel and magisk and you should be go to go.

I flashed oos 5.1.8 full OTA via fastboot, so i dont think this would work, correct me if i'm wrong
What i done.
1st, be sure to have a backup incase of the worst!
Have 5.1.7 zip, twrp and magisk on your internal storage.
Boot to twrp and install 5.1.7 zip, immediately flash twrp zip and magisk zip. Clear cache. Jobs a good one!!!

This wipes data, right? My phone with be restoring the backup once I do this process, correct? And by wiping I mean the OS and app data, not necessarily user data (pictures/files)

Nothing of mine was wiped. That's not to say it won't happen someone else and mine was just a fluke.
No wipe will happen unless you tell it to wipe.

wrong approach, it's always user space if battery drains except if there is a know bug.
absolutely top battery life here last time i got this was on nexus 5 and 6 after a lot of work with xposed and the likes.
in case you can't resolve this start to freeze apps and activate them one after another to see which was is draining.
of course there are other factors, normally i'd recommend a clean incremental install with frequent backups but then i'm reluctant to
recommend this now for this device even though it would work to find the culprit.
thing is that too many don't get the A/B thingy and some related differences under control yet and i don't want to be responsible for
even more hassle

I've had shocking battery life with the update to 5.1.8, hence having to downgrade and battery life is perfect again. I tried a fresh install, clearing cache, freezing apks, uninstalling apks, but no difference. I've filed a bug report with Oneplus and sent the log details to them of what they requested. It's a common issue in the OP forums.

To be honest it has to be specific to your device. I have two devices running on 5.1.8 since days and battery life is great.

I'll be using the twrp bootable image to boot to twrp. Will I still have to flash twrp zip after flashing 5.1.7? Or can I just flash magisk zip?

OOS 5.1.8 Restore back to original setting

Hi all I'm having hard time time in finding a way to restore back to stock.
I'm on OOS 5.1.8 with twrp official and Magisk
Can you please share how to format the phone completely and again install 5.1.8 or 5.1.6 oos?
Reason for this is poor battery life after last few iteration of updates. Need to see whether it fixes it.

Make sure you have your full ROM zip files on your phone. Disable secure lock screen in OS. Boot TWRP, backup data only. Wipe everything (data is optional) install ROM zip file, reflash TWRP zip, reboot. You can always restore data at any time after wiping it and it will be as you have it set up to your preferences. There aren't major differences in OOS versions so erroes shouldn't occur with data on any of them. If you want root, you can boot back into recovery and install magisk.

You shouldn't get a bootloop if you flash stock firmware via TWRP unless the file itself is messed up. Bootloop can occur if you flash magisk right away, I think. You have to reboot recovery before flashing magisk.

Fix infinite boot without resetting data?

Hi,
after installing and uninstalling some Magisk modules, my device (OP6, OOS, blu spark TWRP, Magisk) randomly froze and after restarting, it keeps booting forever. I can still get into TWRP, so I tried a few things to fix this like:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Magisk
Flashing OOS, TWRP and Magisk again
Flashing just OOS,
but nothing seems to help. Is there a proper way of fixing this without wiping my data partition?
If there is not, how do I save as much of my data (like system settings, app data etc.) as possible from TWRP so I can restore it later?
Thanks for your help

Have you tried flashing only the boot img?

Where would I find the newest boot.img? Also, isn't flashing the OOS Full ROM supposed to replace my boot.img with the stock one?

I think you might have to wipe if you can't get your phone to boot after dirty flashing ROM. I would try flashing your boot. Img first in case it's magisk related problem. What ROM are you on?

You can backup data in twrp but that might be the reason you can't boot. Google backup should of backed up most things. At this point you should be more concerned about getting your phone to boot.

Oneplus 7 Pro Bootloop after overlay install, still booting into recovery

Hi guys. Really need your help. Oneplus 7pro ,european version running 10.0.4 software, latest magisk 20.4 i think? and twrp. Everything was running fine until earlier when I installed a system ui overlay (one i've used before) and now my phone is in a boot loop. I can access TWRP, I've run the substratum overlay uninstaller zip and removed all magisk modules but still i'm in a bootloop. I've never had a proper bootloop before and i'm very frustrated. I've googled for the past few hours and removed everything I can think of that could be causing issues. Does anyone have some advice that doesn't end with me losing all my data? I have a backup but its from a month ago. I've never had this issue before so i'm a little stuck. Thanks
Edit. Phone is fully accessible through my laptop I can see all my files and connect to it. I just cannot get it to boot, surely its a simple fix?

Hi,yes I can. Its loading the logo now so i'll wait and see what happens. If that works then what should be the next thing I do?
Edit: Slot B seems to be bootlooping on the logo unless its meant to take a few minutes
Is there a way to recover without wiping my data?
So slot A sits on the caution device rooted screen then defaults to the fastboot rescue mode which allows me to select reboot to recovery which is twrp. From there I have full access to the phone but still not booting to system. Slot B passes the fastboot screen and hangs on the one plus logo just circling around. This is my first rooted phone and I haven't had any problems until now so I'm hoping its something simple because I didnt do anything big to cause it. Hopefully someone has some insight.
Can I just sideload the current version of OOS i'm running using TWRP and not lose my data?

Will I lost root or relock the bootloader? I'm trying to find the least destructive way to get back to what I had which was oos 10 with twrp and magisk.
Uninstalled magisk and was able to reboot. However reflashing it as i want to retain root makes it bootloop again. Any possible fix for this that isn't a factory reset and reroot?
I can't get substratum or substratum themes to work on any rom or stock, nothing happens after reboots.....or everything turns this weird orange theme. Then one time it corrupted the whole OS and I had to wipe.

Thanks, i'll try this. Will I need to install TWRP again once I do this or is it unaffected?
Tried to dirty flash the same stock rom from TWRP but I don't think it did it properly. Can I dirty flash stock rom, flash magisk then try reboot to system?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Has anyone successfully restored with TWRP?

I've been using Beta 19 OOS with all of my apps configured for quite a while now. But, I'd like to try some custom roms. If I don't end up caring for the custom roms, I'd like to easily restore back to OOS Beta with all of my apps. I've never tried a full restore with TWRP. Does it work successfully? Are there any "gotchas" that I should know about?
Yeah, I did it over the weekend.
Tried crdroid and lineage Android 11. Ran into some issues and was fed up.
I don't think you can fully restore photos and music and so on on your internal storage, so I backed up mine.
My steps were:
In twrp, format device,
Reboot to bootloader and reflash twrp using adb.
Reboot to twrp and copy over twrp installer, oos beta19 and Magisk.
Flash Oos beta 19,
Flash twrp installer,
Flash Magisk,
Reboot to twrp
Flash Magisk,
Reboot to system.
Your device will then be on stock oos 19 and start the setup process. You don't have to complete it, so just skip all the steps. When you can, restart to twrp and use the restore functionality.
Everything should then be as it was when you made the backup, except for the music and videos I think.

When you first went from OOS to custom rom, where you able to restore your apps and settings from TWRP, or did you have to start fresh?
I started fresh.
I think you can backup app settings with titanium backup, and just restore it on the new rom.

Try it and see how it goes. Make a Twrp backup and a titanium backup. Copy those files to a pc or something.
If you install a rom and you see the titanium backup isn't restoring all your apps, go back to OOS and restore using Twrp. You'll have your phone in the same state as when you started, only now with the benefit of experience.
