Hi all, I'm in the unfortunate situation that I need a new screen for my Pixel 3. Screens are hard to come by but I found KR-NET who sells screens for most phones including Pixel 3.
Any one have any experience with them? Seems like the only option for now but don't want to end up with a subpar display.
Well, I went ahead and bought it. It arrived today and my phone is fully apart. Now I can't figure out how to take the screen itself off! Teardown videos just say it's "securely adhered" (https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Google+Pixel+3+Teardown/113763) or skip over this step entirely (like in this Pixel 3 XL video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ffn4GQpgSU). Any ideas on how to get the old screen off?
Alright, well I just winged it and figured it out. Everything is working now. If anyone is interested, I can post more info. It wasn't terribly difficult but here's my lessons learned. . While I've never taken apart a phone (or anything that wasn't intended to be disassembled/is sealed shut), I'm generally comfortable with assembling electronics. It's not for the fainthearted, do this at your own risk. According to some sites, Pixel 3 has a very low repairability score because of how difficult it is.
Now that I've done it, the only reason a full disassemble is required is to route the display ribbons through the back. If you can find a way to do this, you probably only need to take off the wireless charger and loosen other things a bit.
Make sure the top speaker flex cable is through the motherboard before securing. It's easy to miss, unlike the other flex cables
Get a screen replacement kit that includes precut adhesives for battery and back cover. (Mine didn't)
Take pictures along the way to remember how things go. There are no good tutorials online with this detail
One of the front cameras has a seal that doesn't handle the process well. Mine made it but probably not as good as new
Somehow track which screws go where - beyond just pictures. I ended up with 1 extra screw and extra clip?
PATIENCE! - things break easily. Don't force parts or screws. When prying, do it gently
Be careful with the speaker mesh covers. Not sure if I did mine right but they do not come with any kit that I know of so don't break or bend them or forget to install them before you adhesive the screen on
Make sure to test that everything (phone speaker, bluetooth, bottom speaker, fingerprint, squeeze mechanism, all cameras, charging, flashlight, etc) is working before sealing it up
I managed to break my earpiece speaker somehow so now I'm on the hunt for one of those. At least speakerphone and Bluetooth work!
How's the display?
Does it seem legit, any tint etc?

No issues, can't tell any difference from original. For $80 can't complain vs $280 to get it fixed somewhere. It would be worth a few more $ to get the precut adhesive though.
It's branded as KR NET, seems they make them on their own? Not sure really. Since Google isn't making screens available yet for repairs, this seems fine. Literally would never know.

so i dropped my phone just the outer glass broke the lcd is find i was wondering where i can get the cheepest replacement for that i realy dont know what the price goes for but id rather not spend 500 on a retail andriod phone. my upgrade is like 3 months

If you don't mind the long shipping times, you can get a digitizer + the entire housing together for around $60 on ebay. Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

I'm going through the same thing. Amazon has some digitizers for about $40. I decided to spend the extra $20 and get this instead

It's the whole casing. I didn't want to bother with stripping the digitzer off the frame which is glued on. With replacing the whole body, you just move the mainboard over and plug everything back in. At least this is my hope. I'll post here again when the thing actually arrives. I ordered it two weeks ago and it probably won't be here until mid March.

There's Youtube videos for disassembly. I haven't watched them myself, but I know they exist, so they probably tell you what tools you need there. From what I remember hearing, just some small torx screwdrivers, or maybe some small phillips, too, but don't quote me on those.

The amazon link in my previous post is what I bought. It was the whole body. There are just screen replacements but I didn't want to mess with that because the digitizer is glued to the front piece. I didn't want to risk warping or breaking the front piece and completely screwing myself over. Anyway, what I bought came with the tools you need to perform the teardown and an extra screwdriver that was not needed.
I am glad I did this. However, it came with it's share of issues.
-The very top of my digitizer does not work. As a result, I can't pull down the notification bar. I can get to it through the menu button but it is annoying.
-I had to move the ear speaker and loudspeaker over. They were glued to some foam which was stuck/glued to the chassis. That foam absorbed the vibration. When my phone rings loud it is nasty because the speaker is bouncing around. I tried to cut some foam myself to replace what was stuck in the old case. It helped but it's not perfect.
-There are some rubber buffers? Isolators? Not sure what their called which also needed to be moved over form the old case.
-It took a month to ship to my house. After discovering these issues, I am kind've stuck with them because it would take a month to send the parts back and another month to get a replacement. By then I'll be due for a new phone.
So that's my experience of replacing the whole case.

To add to this, because I'm sure there are others out there like me who intend to use their Eris until it gets run over, dropped in lava, drawn, quartered, and defecated upon . . .
I ordered the same replacement housing and digitizer as mentioned above, and had 2 small problems:
The housing I got had a nut in it that came loose, so that one of the corners wasn't able to reassemble properly.
There was something different in the new housing that caused the proximity sensor to function incorrectly.
For #1, I just used some super glue to weld the nut into place. This appears to have worked OK, but I fear that the point is weakened now and I will need to be very gentle if I disassemble the phone again.
For #2, The problem was that the housing was allowing bleed through inside the case from the proximity flasher to the light sensor, which caused the sensor to determine that there was something close to it when in fact there wasn't. I placed a small (oh so small) piece of electrical tape into the housing between where the IR flasher and sensor are located, and the problem was resolved.
If presented with the option of purchasing a new digitizer alone, or a new digitizer and housing together, follow groovel76's suggestion; it's well worth the time and money to go with the latter. The hassle of cleaning the old adhesive off of the new housing, and the risks of getting new adhesive in places where you don't want it far outweigh the cost of just getting a housing with adhesive pre-applied. I tried to do just a digitizer first, and ended up with a small amount of super glue (DO NOT RECOMMEND) getting on the new screen and the edge of the housing, as well as a screen that didn't seat properly because I didn't get quite all of the old bits out of the old housing. This resulted in dust getting under the screen and another crack when I attempted to fix what I'd screwed up the first time.
Between the availability of parts and ROMs for this phone, I see it being in my family for a LONG time yet.
Yes! Buy a digitizer online (most come with the tools you need such as the torx screwdrivers, mine did) and search for videos on youtube. That's what I did and it only cost me $37 for the digitizer and about 30 minutes of my time. And it worked perfectly as new when I got it all back together.
Has anyone replaced any parts of the chassis on their Sensation yet?

The reason is that I have some small dents on the metal surrounding the screen (screen and digitiser are absolutely intact).
I can see lots of videos about digitisers being replaced but hopefully I won't have to pull out any cables or remove any tape.
I know I have to remove the battery, sim, sdcard and the other back chassis (6 torxx) that seems easy enough, just gets a little fuzzy after that.
Anyone done it?
The mutiple usage of the heat gun has kind of put me off doing this for now!
I will look into it if I ever someone crack my digitiser.

Yeah it arrived (even though I cancelled so they gave me a full refund) so will keep i for when something really breaks I guess.
If I just had to take a few screws out and/or fiddle with some clips I would be happy. But I am not going to use a heatgun or anything like that risk getting dust between the screen and digitiser at this stage.
Well, I knew the time would come, I shouldn't be so picky on cases. I had my phone in my lap, hopped out of the car and heard my phone drop from my lap. Totally forgot it was there. One corner impact and it cracked my screen, which is disappointing because I drop my iPhone all the time and nothing happens to it. But, at least it's not the whole screen that's shattered, might even be a waste to replace it. The screen is responsive still.
With that said, anyone know where I can get a replacement screen or should I have a "professional" do it?

Well, if you are going to try this one yourself, it's one of the "easier" ones. As long as you get the LCD assembly and frame that is already put together. On eBay, there are some vendors selling the the assembly + frame for $135. No really crazy tools are needed. Shouldn't be anything too catastrophic happen since you are changing the whole front of the phone. If you were trying to separate the top glass, I'd definitely advise against if you aren't a pro. If you absolutely don't feel comfortable with doing it and can be without the phone for a few days, then feel free to PM me, and we can discuss other options.
If you have steady hands, enough patience and some previous experience in disassembling phones (youtube could help a lot), it shouldn't turn out to be quite a big challenge.
I would advise though in some attention taking off the rear cover (it's not difficult, but if you apply too much pressure you might end up bending or breaking it). Same goes with the battery, which is attached to the back of the screen with some adhesive. Use a plastic tool for this, and try to peel it off with a strong and steady hand. Once you do that, it's only a few screws.
I think LG would fix it for $150 so $135 to fix it yourself eh. Unless you want the accomplishment, but I have never ventured into replacing a cracked screen.
Just got off the phone with LG, they said they can't price over the phone, they have to have a tech see the phone and they'll call with a quote. So, 2 weeks without a phone just to get a quote and maybe repaired if I want to spend that kind of money.
I am 80% positive that I have viewed a few post of them charging $150 for screen replacement. You aught to check in the thread "who dropped it" the answer might be there. Its in general. Hard to find with xda app.

Well, turns out once the screen is cracked it cracks easier now. As of now, the phone starts clicking on random things when the screen is touched.
I'm debating to either buy a new one and sell this one, should come out to the same price as buying a replacement screen once the cracked phone is sold.
What would you guys suggest? I can't send it in to LG as I need my phone and replacement screen + front housing is $200 to replace myself or $220 to replace by a professional.

Can't you try the below? Quite easy to dis-assemble the phone, steady hands and proper screw driver + torx driver, use a hairdryer to warm up the glue connecting the battery + LCD to the digitizer

So, I dropped my Moto X Style a couple of weeks ago, the screen broke and the touch stopped working from the top-half of the display.
Decided to change the screen myself, so i bought a new one and watched a couple of videos with instructions.
Everything was fine, till I reassembled the phone.
I tried to turn it on and got the initial vibration, and if i wait enough i can hear the receiving notification ring, but the screen dont turn on and neither the touch works.
Someone went through the same problem? Am I forgetting something?
did you check to make sure all ribbon cables were in place? I just changed mine yesterday and had no problems, except for not realizing the new screen and front frame didnt come with the speaker grill/plastic things or the front flash/led, luckily i didnt throw those out. im stoked i was 2 for 2 yesterday, successfully did a glass only repair on an s4 (dont see what all the fuss is about....) and the moto. id say take it apart again and make sure you got all the connections in place, otherwise check and see if they will offer a replacement for a bunk screen, if not, they shipped me 2 replacement screens (i think due to user error on my girlfriends end, she bought it, and is prone to that kinda thing ) i could probably sell you for what it cost, unless she wants to send it back for whatever reason

I need to fix my XT1575 as well and am looking to buy a screen. Is it just the glass or the whole display? Also, how much does it cost?
Whole display +front frame (realized after I put mine in that it doesn't include the speaker grills or front Led, so save those!) and I'll have to double check but I believe 90~ish (whatever the going rate is in eBay) noticed on the one I installed that you can see one of the lights through the screen in one spot at a certain angle with white screen, 8ll post updates if anything goes bad though to avoid seller, but as of now still working great /light new
I just got done replacing my screen as well. Bought it off eBay for about $80.
I am posting to second Skinnykinney's warning about the front LED. Don't forget to pry it out of the old frame!!! I am going to have to take mine back apart because I just noticed the new frame didn't include it.
And another thing, don't take the silver screw out when you take all 20 of the t4 screws out of the back! The silver screw holds in the power and volume buttons and you might loose the teeny little springs if you remove that screw. You can leave the silver screw in when disassembling.
There are a couple of videos on YouTube about disassembling the Pure, but neither of them mention those two important things. All in all its pretty easy though.
Yeah I didn't even know about the tiny microscopic springs until I watched a different video that showed them, so those are also long gone.. Don't really notice it though luckily still functions just fine, just annoying thatci have that big old hole where that led went, never could find the little sucker, thankfully I have no reason to use the front camera ever just gotta tape it up to keep lint/other pocket debris out of it

The phone itself is really easy to breakdown though I used a hairdryer to loosen back adhesive just be careful of the ribbon cables near power button the rest is pretty straight forward and the back should just stick back on without needing to use new adhesive

I changed in the past some Sony-Displays and thought about doing myself. I found on aliexpress some U12+Displays.
Sadly I didnt found a single "manual" or how to, to do this right - anyone can help?

I just replaced mine yesterday and it was more difficult than any other one I've done in the past. Anyway I never found one single video on YouTube that showed the screen removal and pretty much had to play it by ear. There are a few videos that show the disassembly of the U12+ and each stops before removing the screen. My advice is to remove everything from the frame, I managed to piece together enough from the videos to know there are 15 screws to remove, one video said 14 but there's one more that's hidden until you've gotten under the motherboard holding the front facing cameras. Knowing I wanted to keep it simple I didn't remove all of the antenna wires, there's one at the bottom that's under the speaker cover that I left attached so I only disconnected it from the motherboard. Then the other I only disconnected near the vibrator, leaving it connected at the motherboard, so each piece had one wire that stayed connected. Meanwhile you'll have to undo every other plug on the device and with a little persuasion everything fell out. (Don't attempt to remove the button/pressure sensing strips along the sides!) Once you are down to the frame, and for me the ear piece speaker, I used a heat gun to soften the bond between the glass and the frame. It doesn't loosen up very easily, they are really bonded together. I got most of it and then began to chip away at the broken glass. You'll want a good heat gun for this part. I had to set mine to 300F to really get it to loosen up and then work mm by mm around the edge getting all of the glass and glue out of the track. This probably took me a half hour or more. I used E6000 glue but only because I would have had to order B7000 or any other recommended glue. E6000 is a good glue but just because many of the other videos I watched used B7000 I would have liked to use it too.
To install the new screen I used a syringe filled with my glue to follow the small glue track around the edge of the frame. Don't worry about squeeze out because this glue is very forgiving and wipes away easily with IPA Alcohol and a rag. I followed the old glue placement, adding a little extra near the bottom corners and a dab around the ear piece speaker holes. Then it's just reversing the process to assemble the electronics. Now here is another word of warning, the plugs are so small and some are not easy to align but be sure they snap into place and are flat when installed. I made the mistake of not getting the display plug flat and had to do a partial disassembly to correct the issue.
I didn't glue the back on but think I might today just to try and achieve the waterproof level the phone shipped with. You may have to glue yours but I had previously broken the back and already replaced it and the replacement came with a double sided adhesive strip that was still pretty sticky. If I remember correctly the original back was glued on and probably wouldn't have stuck if I had tried to just replace the back as I did.
One other note. After being disassembled and pulling the battery my finger print scanner didn't want to work. In fact it didn't even show up in the menu when I went looking for it but restarting the phone again caused it to show up. My advantage with the double sided adhesive was I was able to test everything and use the phone for a full day before committing to gluing the back on. Now that I know everything is working, the phone is charging and it all seems good I can glue the back on.
