TWRP 3.2.3-1 port (test) - Sony Xperia X Compact ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, &

Made a port from copying files from official XA2 TWRP. My goal was to be able to use Magisk on AOSP Pie, since current TWRP for XC can't mount /data on Pie. I haven't been able to test much, (busy at work), but I figured I'd post it here, in case anyone else wants to mess with it. What I've found out so far is that it does mount /data, but still not /vendor, so I think Magisk will still not work.
https://mega.nz/#!010C2SgI!_emTPQKTP-gmF1WlXoHNvI37zwHu7F_MsQq9TVi1Vw8

So, it seems clear that this type of 'port' isn't going to cut it for P. I've tried many things... We'll need a real build.

Looks like official update came (3.2.3-2). I'm on Sailfish at the moment. Anybody tried it with AOSP Pie?

I'm a Sailfish refugee too. Which Android version did you have in the SF Android emulator on your X compact? I could never get it past v4 and that's what finally broke me. Many apps I need don't work anymore with such old Android.
PS to anyone else: Theres an official TWRP for kugo now and it's at 3.3.1 https://eu.dl.twrp.me/kugo/ No more need for private ports.

Hi! I've installed it in multirom with a stock 5.0.1 as primary and it works, just tried it for few minutes.
just be sure to have the latest bootolader (HHZ12h) or installation will fail.
Flashing a bootloader
Hi,
I have a Nexus 5 and I use Multirom with it. My default ROM is Lollipop 5.1.1 and a secondary ROM, which I mostly use, is Marshmallow 6.0 (xTraSmooth). I want to install CopperheadOS, but it says when installing, that I must have HHZ12h bootloader in order to install (as stated in a previous post). My current bootloader is HHZ11k. If I install HHZ12h bootloader by flashing a zip file which includes LMY48B_Radio+Bootloader-HHZ12h will it cause anything that prevents Lollipop or Marshmallow to work properly?

You don't need to downgrade the bootloader, just modify the updater script of the rom ( deleting the string containing the bootloader version or replacing with your current version), then it will install just fine.

Thanks! I haven't tried that yet, but I will. First I thought I can just replace HHZ12h with HHZ11k using text editor, but then I noticed there are guides which suggest that it isn't quite that easy. I might be wrong about that, will see when I have enough time to read up on the subject.

It's easy, just extract the rom, go to Meta-Inf/com/google/android and modify the "updater-script". That's all, rebuild the zip and flash in recovery.
Edit: you can do it without using a PC, by using a file manager on your device.

Just installed it on a Nexus 5x and it works flawless. It has most of the standard stuff but is different from the rest in that it is supposed to be security oriented. That means no default root (but rooting should be possible).
I didn't try to add Google stuff yet and probably won't even try to add that spyware but it does have the F-Droid app store.
There are some extra options to secure the memory if required, and the documentation is (so far) very good (for example the install guide and the technical overview).
Currently running it on my Nexus 5x and N5. works great. Anything you are missing you can find on F-Droid. I find the lack of data usage to be delightful; when facebook or ebaum videos auto load on other software, they are stopped on copperhead. very happy with the security.
The only thing i can not make work is voice to text, and I have a ticket in with copperhead. who cares, I have fast thumbs.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess manual apk installation is also possible?
I'm thinking about picking up a Nexus 5 as a backup device, and CopperheadOS seems like something fun to play with, instead of just installing CM13. Can I install TWRP as recovery on devices like the Nexus 5 that don't check for locked bootloaders? Can I run it as basically another ROM –*unlocked developer options, root, TWRP, etc.? I realize the OS exists for enhanced security, but I'd like to make a few tradeoffs.
Unfortunately, you can not run TWRP with copperhead, it wants full control of the phone for security reasons. Its not meant to be a developer OS with access to all the bits, so you kind of need to want a OS in a box that you can deal with.
But I have to say, despite its shortcomings of not having google services, it works pretty much flawless on my 5 and 5x. i miss google maps app, but it works 100% via chromium browser as a favorite, and I have only found 2 apps I can not import via apkmirror, one being Waze, the other is my local public transportation app. other than that, i feel like I'm safe from prying eyes.

Thanks for your response. I'm a fan of CyanogenMod, and I'm not unhappy their security or features, but I wanted to play around with CopperheadOS. I understand the tradeoff between security and convenience, but I'm not willing to sacrifice TWRP in the mix. Oh, well – if I ever have need of an OS solely for its security track record, I know where to go.
It doesn't look to me like Copperhead is supporting the Nexus 5 anymore. Can somebody confirm or is there a link I'm missing somewhere to the ROM?
EDIT: Yep, I knew it was deprecated for a while now but they've even removed the deprecated ROM from the site now. I'd appreciate it if anybody has the last ROM if they could pass it my way.

Switch debugging OFF and don't lock bootloader after CopperheadOS install and u will be able to boot TWRP via
fastboot boot recovery.img [TWRP]
I'm currently experimenting with root privileges on CopperheadOS on Nexus 5X. Still haven’t tried xposed framework.
Security features r quite good, especially different lock code && encryption password and memory protection, but, there is a lack of fine privacy control (Privacy Guard) as in CyanogenMod and firewall, hence the need for root.

I've been using CopperheadOS for a few weeks now on the Nexus5. Received the latests OTA a few days ago and applied without issue.
Installed it via TWRP. Have rooted the device with SuperSU, though have to re-root after re-flashing recovery after each OTA.
It's been working great.
Unfortunately I don't have the img any more

Current state of Nougat encryption

Since well functioning encryption seems to be a rarity these days, I decided to make a list for everyone interested in protecting their device. Majority of roms out there seem to have issues with it for some reason. Feel free to add in the comment section if you have tested other roms.
With "fully" working I mean that you can also mount /data with latest twrp (for e.g. omni currently fails in this regard). And please note that I mostly have tested the roms with everything EXT4.
FULLY WORKING
1. LinOs, tested 13.2. build
2. Slim7, tested 24.2. build
3. RR, tested 2.2. build
4. Tesla, tested 25.2. build
5. Validus, tested 25.2. build
CURRENTLY NOT WORKING
1. OmniRom
2. Nitrogen, tested 1.3. build
3. AOSP Extended
4. AOSPlusone
5. Android Open Source Project
list updated 6.3.2017
Any others? Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or if you have noticed that situation has changed.
I tried a fresh installation and encryption of RR onto my OPO and it wasn't a success; always responds that encryption was unsuccessful and had to end up wiping and re-installing. Can I ask what RR 7.11 release you were using so I can give that a try?

Currently, after testing Nitrogen, omnirom, AOSP extended, AOSPlusone, Android Open Source Project, LinOs, Slim7, RR 7.1.1, only the latter three have encryption working:

2. Slim7

I found this (my old post): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70891641&postcount=3236
So if you find a build dated 5.2.2017 or earlier, it should work. At least mine did back then
But remember to format everything EXT4.

[AIO] Prepare your device (and your knowledge) for any GSI

Preliminary operations/infos
First of all: what's Treble?
Find it out here.
How do I obtain my bootloader unlock code?
GO HERE, FAST!
Huawei officially ceased the unlocking service.
How do I get Treble on my device?
At the moment of this write down, EMUI it's still in private BETA.
The only chance to obtain it it's to follow this guide CAREFULLY.
What if I want to revert to EMUI 8/5?
Follow the steps described in the guide to get treble on your device using EMUI 8 files if you want to revert to EMUI 8, or EMUI 5 if you wish to revert to it.
The road it's long...
So, you're sitting there, not understanding why there are so much ROMs in this section and why you shouldn't use the ones appearing in Treble-Enabled Device Development since you worked so hard to get Treble on it.
Let's try to answer a universal question.
What's the difference from the "standard" GSIs and the ROMs in this section?
Well, the ROMs here were made keeping an eye on the "optimization per-platform" concept, basically tracking down some proprietary stuff inheriting them under /system .
**WHAT FOLLOWS ARE PERSONAL OPINIONS**
I honestly think, that we should cut off this approach.
Inheriting stuff under /system has no more sense.
Am I saying that what I did till now had no sense?
Yes.
The whole Treble concept relies on moving away from system, any vendor related stuff.
So why in the hell should we inherit proprietary stuff in our system partition again?
When we have other ways to don't mess with it?
The only stuff that still "deserves" to have something to do with /system it's the Huawei Camera.
Everything else, belongs to /vendor.
Furthermore, our goal, as developers and users, should be to track down specific-platform bugs and report them.
Co-operation is the sake of open-source and the key to success in a wonderful GSI experience for everyone.
Is my device ready to use a "standard" GSI?
Pretty much.
Huawei doesn't ship any overlay under /vendor in our PRA, because it's inherited in EMUI under /system.
But, you can follow this guide, to include the needed overlay to be fully GSI-ready.
Also, you need this thread too to fix offline charging on your Huawei device.
Known Bugs on GSI and "specific-GSI"
NFC has been an annoying issue all along the development process on some Huawei devices.
But this flashable zip, seems to solve the issue on our PRA.
Indeed it needs more testing.

THAT WORKED. FINALLY 8.1 WITH BOOTLEGGERS GSI, 128GB micro SDXC as INTERNAL. I AM HAPPY
for beginners:
boot after working rom in twrp
go in advanced
go to file manager
go to /vendor/etc/
open file "fstab.hi6250" (after copying with and having a recovery of it, open with notepad++ or something else)
there should be a line with: "/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/userdata /data f2fs nosuid,nodev,noatime,discard,inlinedata,inlinexattr wait,check,fileencryption=aes-256-xts:aes-256-cts"
erase the part: ",fileencryption=aes-256-xts:aes-256-cts"
save
erase the original fstab.hi6250 file in vendor/etc
and put the new fstab.hi6250 file in
reboot in bootloader
flash stockrecovery.img
reboot recovery
factory reset in stock recovery
reboot
DONE.
now you can see the SD card as internal and use for apps.

Hi, i am experiencing a weird bug on every GSI, specifically, snapchat video recording is fine and smooth, but after tapping on the "send" button it says "failed to add" and doesnt even give a chance to resend the same snap. It happens on all treble roms i've teted so far (i tested every specific GSI for PRA, and some openkirin and otger ones). @dill3m4 do you have any idea how to fix it? I hope there is a way to do a flashable zip or something like the NFC fix. Once i get back home (2-3 days) i will post some logs, in the meantime, can someone please confirm if the issue persists, and gather logs? ?

I couldn't find the file using TWRP either. Had to use root explorer to find and edit the file. As for hurupdater, I'm not sure if it's the same for your region, but for pra-la1 there were 3 files.
And as for the the 2 files, I successfully flashed using the updater with only the update.zip so try updating anyway. If that doesn't work, use the eRecovery

actually strike that the marshmellow build will be just fine
but does anyone know if shared memory is implemented in a chroot I get -
sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=268435456
returns cannot stat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax: No such file or directory

Interesting for the marshmellow build. Does it have to be UL?
For the bottom one you gotta dig the right directory.

Hmm I've kind of slipped off this little project for a while I'm trying to use it with the newer kali builds chroot (requiring the 3.4 kernels I believe) in the hope of having a device with WiFi monitor mode available but I was running in to that shared memory issue with services such as postgresql etc think is was causing me issues with csploit too but as I say not really looked at it in a few weeks now.

OMG SAME! I was trying with the Kali too on my other device. It was kinda confusing no doubt
This rom is working great, thanks. Please can anyone help me with how to install browser on this rom, as the USB is not working.
did u tried to activate the debug mode , in dev settings? if that doesn't work .. you have to switch the drivers by yourself, in windows ( devices manager ) from ADB Bootloader to Storage Device .. for your Nexus 7

Question TWRP?

I understand that the TWRP team is apparently still working on an official release for Android 13, but is there even an unofficial build available for the P7Pro? If not, is there a recovery alternative? I really want to be able to do a full system (all partitions) backup of my device. Thanks!
You can create dumps of your partitions using ADB shell in system; TWRP is not required to do this.
Though it wouldn't necessarily be any good for doing full partition backups, I'm currently running the recovery from the StagOS ROM in combination with the stock Pixel ROM. I like it because it allows flashing recovery zips without having to say "Yes" every time due to signature stuff.

Anyone can compile TWRP - it's opensource. Pixel 6+ owners are unlikely to get an official build from TWRP since it requires a volunteer to maintain the repo, deal with bug reports, etc.
It's recommended to simply compile the image on an individual basis (you really don't want to rely on a third-party supplied image when you have no way of knowing whether it's safe or not). Compiling isn't a difficult process, but does require an hour or two of reading TWRP's and Google's applicable developer pages, along with ~30 - 60 minutes of set up time on a PC/laptop (I prefer to compile within an Ubuntu VM, but I believe it can also be done in Windows' WSL).

They still haven't finished official support for Android 12. Since recovery resources on A12+ are located in vendor_boot, bigbiff is trying to figure out a decent way for TWRP to live there, at least as far as the Pixel 5 is concerned. Not sure what other obstacles may be present on the Pixel 6 series and above.

Hey thanks for this! How did you flash just the recovery partiton on the Pixel? I am an old hand with Odin on the Samsung devices, but Google official devices are still new to me. Will the StagOS recovery recognize an external USB-C flash drive for storage?
