WHAT IS TWRP?
Oh come on, you know what it is - don't try to fool me!
In case you're serious, though...
Team Win Recovery Project is a custom recovery for Android devices.
It allows you to back up and restore your data, flash custom ROMs to your device, repair broken file systems, and root your device.
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/

The difference is, the official one has more bugs then the unofficially,
I found
1. Can't mount external sd
2. Has Date bug (still backup is1970)
3. Has 15 sec delay touch bug.
I'm back on unofficial now

It seems that decryption works now, though.
I'll make a /data backup on Orangefox, encrypt and then see if the new TWRP works fine with encryption.
Not sure of your stance regarding data encryption and privacy, but I've seen first hand how harmful an exposed device can be on the wrong hands. Encryption should be a matter that we all must support

Mate I sayed nothing about encryption. If it works, great.
It seems that official one doesn't support micro SD, reverting back to unofficial?
What about encryption in this twrp.? any one tried?

Wow new TWRP build, btw I see you try to build LineageOS 13 (even msdx321 fork from your repo), thanks
Wow, this one is better than Cofface's TWRP.

@Anik_khan, thank God you're working for redmi 4 prime now! I was amazed by your redmi 3 ROMs. I hope you will create some ROM for R4P! Godbless you Sir!
Much better than before
Thanks, I am excited to see new TWRP for Redmi 4 Prime!
So, is this better than the one made by cofface? In what ways?
Can i flash this zip file to replace the twrp by cofface using twrp by cofface itself? And one more question.. When i want to go to recovery from off, when i press the up n power button it went to the stock recovery instead of the twrp and i need to select recovery for me to go to twrp.. .. Is there any solution for me to straight away go to twrp after pressing the combination button? Pleasee help... Im still using miui 8 and looking to try on lineage os.... Thanks in advance

Yes you can flash this TWRP.img straight using Cofface's TWRP(that's what i did before), but don't forget to reboot to recovery after flashing the img. After that flash the attached zip file lazyflasher and your good to go.. About your second question, i don't know if there's some kind of shortcut to go straight to recovery(a simple single tap wouldn't matter anyway), as for lineageos, i haven't tried it yet so no idea, but imo i still prefer stock rom over custom rom for less bug free experience.

What i like about this new twrp is you can now mount/wipe system partition. Compare to cofface's twrp, you can't do those. [emoji3]

You can flash directly from cofface by using install menu and press image button on right bottom to flash .img instead of zip
Just wanted to say that this is the best recovery for Redmi 4 Prime. No bugs, no problems with mounting partitions, no hassle. Thank you very much, Anik_khan
Sorry for the noob question, but why lazyflasher is necessary? I am using MIUI global (v8.1.2). What happens if I don't flash lazyflasher? Just curious. Thanks.

Likely wont boot since official firmware need to verify dex-opt (it supposed to be installed in official xiaomi recovery). However xiaomi eu rom will work just fine.

Working perfectly....
Tried the recovery; it works as it should. It just lags more while scrolling items through the menus than the OpenKirin version, and the other thing that I've noticed is that it receive inputs slower, while screen is off and while creating a backup.

yes there are some functions which are running before twrp boots and twrp decides at startup that whether its a Stock/Elite Based Rom or Aosp Based Rom,,, so it took time to decide on written conditions, also, i integrated the Upstreamed kernel mistakenly in it,,, which has modules disabled... it worked as it should so i didnot change it, recently, i bricked device while doing twrp experiment, so i have made new one which will remove the Roms switcher and do basic things easily, hope so it will be fast then....
Thanks for the review appreciate that....
I accidentally wiped data with encryption. Even when I restore my Nandroid backup, which I took just after installing TWRP, internal storage still shows as 0mb internal storage.
I can boot to EMUI with limited apps (can't open settings).
Before wiping, booting to TWRP showed type password to decrypt screen, but since I hadn't encrypted or even set a screen lock, I just pressed cancel
Now TWRP doesn't show type password to decrypt screen
Is there any way to fix this
I could flash stock again, but when redoing this process to flash a custom Rom, anything I should do to avoid encrypting, or if this is default what is the password

Changelog from 18/12/2021:
-Codename of the device renamed (this was a decision of mine I wanted to have a little fun) from pokerp to pokerpatas
-Updated to the latest twrp sources
-MTP & ADB Sideload fixed and working on linux (on windows it already worked)
-Support Android 12 gsi
-Eliminate various flashing and wipe options from the recovery (for example, the vendor can no longer be erased or flashed)
-The recovery will start even if you have encrypted memory (It is not yet capable of decrypting but it is already quite a noticeable advance, in case you want to update gsi you could do it from a MicroSD)
Bugs:
Encryption, I have not managed to get it to work, I am not totally sure what type of encryption it is, I tried adding the FDE and FBE binaries and it works partially
Apparently there is an error with the backups (I have not tried it because I normally do not do any) the error in question is that apparently generating a backup / data ends up collapsing in some way, a pseudo correction for this was to disable the backup encryption which apparently was not very successful
I will attach the last image of the recovery and the current device tree in case someone wants to collaborate in any way
Device Tree: https://github.com/KatoTempest/motorola_pokerpatas branch wip
I should mention that I also compiled Skyhawk recovery, although apparently it has some broken functions, maybe if I fix the encryption bug I can compile that recovery again
thanks for doing this, i was searching in youtube and a guy on the video said is there a possibility to find the TWRP version of your phone in XDA, so... thanks alot <3
you need to continue... its so good...

the bootloader "crashes" or something similar sometimes, although that is something random depends on the cable and the amount of energy in its battery, I recommend flashing orangefox since it exists there
New Build
--------Changelog:
-Fixed mtp and adb
-Merged to latest twrp sources
-For now probabily support fbe encryption (aosp gsi for example)
-Magisk now flash correctly
-Added parted tools for change system size (not tested)

If you get stuck on the twrp logo then the encryption settings did not work, although it may not support the motorola ones and if the aosp ones, in case it is not that try flashing a different recovery

A friendly recommendation, you should make a post with your recovery because people rarely read the comments, and on the encryption issue, It could be the case that it does not work in stock rom, although perhaps it does in aosp gsi or similar, at least it is a possibility because it happens in other devices
Decryption works now partially, For some reason if there is any unlock key it doesn't decrypt, I'll fix that bug soon, while I attach the group where I uploaded the file, it's below the pinned message in said group https://t.me/motoe6plusdev
Status: development dropped. If you want to pick it up, sources are available in my or twrp's GitHub.

Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Easy selection of internal/external storage
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe, and run a backup.
We are looking for other talented developers, themers, and device maintainers if they are interested in helping with a free, open-source project.

Installation:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery>.img
OR
use the installation zips.
Notes:
This TWRP is unified between 7T and 7T Pro with decryption working for OOS11.
OOS users: Use FBEv1
Most (?) Custom ROMS: Use FBEv2. If you're unsure, check with your ROM maintainer

Finally you put in a separate thread. Thank you very much for your efforts.
I need try again fbev2 with lineage/crdroid.
Good to look it here officially.
Works well for accessing internal SD and data for OOS11 and Omni11 latest. Can't backup data in TWRP though. Use swift backup app to backup data
After flashing this TWRP i can't acces SD storage. Can see the folders but ervery folder is empty. How to fix this please?

In my experience, this is happening because of encryption .
I usually format everything, and I can then use SD card.
Although I have yet to try this build of TWRP , I may be wrong.

SD? As in Internal storage? Be sure you flashed the right version, last time I tried it decrypted fine on OOS11 and YAAP.
I haven't had any luck so far with this TWRP and Lineage 18.1. Pre-release 1.1 decrypted /data but failed to back it up as described in this post. Pre-release 1.2 will not decrypt /data. Using sdcardfs builds.

You can't link to that here if there's no published source code. It's illegal since it violates the GPL and a moderator will remove it if you don't first.
Test build with MTP hopefully working, thanks to @bigbiff @theincognito
Note: the startup screen can take some time, be patient

Hey its possible to create twrp installer zip like official for op7 because the newer custom rooms use payload installer and overwrite the recovery image if you can't use magisk plug in.
Thank you very much.
To you have changelog for this?
i flashed your recovery in linux per fastboot
booting takes a while as you said
i just installed magisk
wipe davilk only
in advanced wipe i cant wipe system and these things. i dont know this is normal.
doesnt show any errors. kernel 11
Thank you very much for your work. One plus 7T can finally decrypt the data, which was impossible to work on TWRP before, but now he has succeeded, which is very good, which is very convenient and fast for brushing the machine and recovering data.

TWRP does not have the function to erase logical partition, and you don't need to either. If you really want to, fastbootd should be able to.
As for the installer, I can look into it.

@DarthJabba9 How's the Android 12 ROM's compatibility, can they be decrypted yet?

Nope. Android 12 encryption is quite problematic, and there is much work to do before recoveries can decrypt it properly. There is a hack that means that one or two devices can now be decrypted (only if there is no password/PIN) - but vayu is not one of them.
Isn't this the first official recovery for vayu? Wonder why there aren't more views and comments.

becoz it works so theres nothing to complain about
With this Recovery I have the same problem with official TWRP that I have no access to internal storage after flashing. So I'm not able to copy a .zip to it. Is there any solution?
Yes, you should have format data partitition, but read a lot before that action, all data will be lost and you need password or PIN if there was one....
Yeah, did that but I had no access anyways.

android 11 or 12?
Installed this on my Xiaomi POCO X3 Pro through the official TWRP and then through itself, after
Code:
data
was formatted.
The UI and UX in general is really amazing. Finally a recovery made for humans, which is easy to use and actually comfortable. It's actually NOT a chore to use this recovery!
Great job, thank you very much.

If you are using Android 12, you should switch to Android 11, if you want an easier experience with recoveries.
Additionally, you generally should use a microSD for such stuff, instead of Internal Storage, because the Internal Storage may be wiped, anytime. While the microSD (External Storage) only needs to be wiped, if you really want to.

the moment you format the data, you will lose the partition until you boot into a working system
if you want to continue install things, you could use adb sideload to do so
I also switched from TWRP to Orangefox and am quite happy so far. Installation on Poco X3 Pro was a breeze.
I installed LineageOS official as they are one of a few who have nightly builts / OTA.
However, I´m not sure if I have to set anything in Orangefox in order for the OTA´s to work. I´ve found the guide on the wiki page (How do I set up block-based incremental OTA for custom ROMs in OrangeFox Recovery?)
however I´m unsure if the LOS-ROM is such a "block-based" Rom I must admit that I don´t know what "block-based" incremental means , sorry
Thank you for any help

"Block-based" = "Delta" (ie, incremental updates that only patch the existing system in the areas that need to be updated, rather than full ROM updates). An example is the incremental MIUI OTA updates. Lineage OTA updates are usually full ROM updates.
Thanks @DarthJabba9 !
Edit: Got root working. Only encryption pw problem left. I did read wiki section

It is a unified build, so you should be able to.
amazing, I used many versions of twrp, all failed.
Hey uh, I just got the MIUI13 based on A12 update notification, but haven't downloaded it yet. If I update, will something happen? Or will OF just lose access to my storage until it can get the decryption sorted out?
